Lattice path matroidal subdivisions, Positive Tropical Grassmannian and Amplituhedron
We introduce the notion of lattice path matroidal subdivisions, or LPM subdivisions for short, and show that these subdivisions are regular and hence the weight vectors for them lie in the Dressian. This leads us to explore the structure of the set of these weights inside the Dressian and owing to the fact that Lattice path matroids are positroids, we move to the positive Dressian which in turn is equal to the positive tropical Grassmannian, an object of immense interest currently in Physics. This is related to the amplituhedron and positive configuration space, which we describe here and wish to explore these connections further.

Matroid Chern-Schwartz-MacPherson cycles and Tutte activities
Published • View PublicationBIB
Lopéz de Medrano-Rinćon-Shaw defined Chern-Schwartz-MacPherson cycles for an arbitrary matroid $M$ and proved by an inductive geometric argument that the unsigned degrees of these cycles agree with the coefficients of $T(M;x,0)$, where $T(M;x,y)$ is the Tutte polynomial associated to $M$. Ardila-Denham-Huh recently utilized this interpretation of these coefficients in order to demonstrate their log-concavity. In this note we provide a direct calculation of the degree of a matroid Chern-Schwartz-MacPherson cycle by taking its stable intersection with a generic tropical linear space of the appropriate codimension and showing that the weighted point count agrees with the Gioan-Las Vergnas refined activities expansion of the Tutte polynomial.
Eulerian polynomials for subarrangements of Weyl arrangements
Published in Advances in Applied Mathematics, 120 (2020) • View PublicationBIB
Let $\mathcal{A}$ be a Weyl arrangement. We introduce and study the notion of $\mathcal{A}$-Eulerian polynomial producing an Eulerian-like polynomial for any subarrangement of $\mathcal{A}$. This polynomial together with shift operator describe how the characteristic quasi-polynomial of a new class of arrangements containing ideal subarrangements of $\mathcal{A}$ can be expressed in terms of the Ehrhart quasi-polynomial of the fundamental alcove. The method can also be extended to define two types of deformed Weyl subarrangements containing the families of the extended Shi, Catalan, Linial arrangements and to compute their characteristic quasi-polynomials. We obtain several known results in the literature as specializations, including the formula of the characteristic polynomial of $\mathcal{A}$ via Ehrhart theory due to Athanasiadis (1996), Blass-Sagan (1998), Suter (1998) and Kamiya-Takemura-Terao (2010); and the formula relating the number of coweight lattice points in the fundamental parallelepiped with the Lam-Postnikov Eulerian polynomial due to the third author.

Another approach to volume of matroid polytopes
We present a new algorithm for computing the volume of an arbitrary matroid base polytope. We provide two applications of this approach: a relation between the volume of the base polytope of a matroid $\M$ and its relaxation $\M'$, and a formula for the volume of an arbitrary sparse paving matroid base polytope.

Character polynomials for two rows and hook partitions
Representation theory of the symmetric group $\mathfrak{S}_n$ has a very distinctive combinatorial flavor. The conjugacy classes as well as the irreducible characters are indexed by integer partitions $λ\vdash n$. We introduce class functions on $\mathfrak{S}_n$ that count the number of certain tilings of Young diagrams. The counting interpretation gives a uniform expression of these class functions in the ring of character polynomials, as defined by \cite{murnaghanfirst}. A modern treatment of character polynomials is given in \cite{orellana-zabrocki}. We prove a relation between these combinatorial class functions in the (virtual) character ring. From this relation, we were able to prove Goupil's generating function identity \cite{goupil}, which can then be used to derive Rosas' formula \cite{rosas} for Kronecker coefficients of hook shape partitions and two row partitions.
