The combinatorial Hopf algebra of signed graphs
The theory of combinatorial Hopf algebras is a powerful framework for studying algebraic invariants of combinatorial objects. The aim of this work is to incorporate chromatic invariants of signed graphs into this context. We define the combinatorial Hopf algebra of signed graphs. Through this definition, algebraic invariants already known in the literature arise naturally. Using the antipode, we find new proofs of combinatorial reciprocity results for these invariants. We also study bivariate polynomial invariants, both for classical graphs and for signed graphs.

$q$-analogs of rational numbers: from Ostrowski numeration systems to perfect matchings
We consider the $q$-deformation of rational numbers introduced recently by Morier-Genoud and Ovsienko. We propose three enumerative interpretations of these $q$-rationals: in terms of a new version of Ostrowski's numeration system for integers, in terms of order ideals of fence posets and in terms of perfect matchings of snake graphs. Contrary to previous results which are restricted to rational numbers greater than one, our interpretations work for all positive rational numbers and are based on a single combinatorial object for defining both the numerator and denominator. The proofs rest on order-preserving bijections between posets over these objects. We recover a formula for a $q$-analog of Markoff numbers. We also deduce a fourth interpretation given in terms of the integer points inside a polytope in $\mathbb{R}^k$ on both sides of a hyperplane where $k$ is the length of the continued fraction expansion.

Chromatic quasisymmetric functions for signed graphs
In 1995, Stanley introduced the chromatic symmetric function of a graph, which specializes to its chromatic polynomial, and which has been the focus of intense research. In 2017, Shareshian, Wachs, and Ellzey defined a refinement of this function for a directed graph, that appears to be in $QSym$, the algebra of quasisymmetric functions, which is of great interest in algebraic combinatorics. Our goal is to extend this work to signed graphs, taking into account the perspective of the hyperplane arrangement associated with a signed graph, developed by Zaslavsky. We introduce the signed chromatic quasisymmetric invariant, and obtain structural properties. As a consequence, we define and study $SQSym$, the algebra of signed quasisymmetric functions.

About the determinant of complete non-ambiguous trees
Published in Discrete Mathematics and Theoretical Computer Science, 2024, 26 (3), pp.18 • View PublicationBIB
Complete non-ambiguous trees (CNATs) are combinatorial objects which appear in various contexts.Recently, Chen and Ohlig studied the notion of permutations associated to these objects, and proposed a series of nice conjectures. Most of them were proved by Selig and Zhu, through a connection with the abelian sandpile model. But one conjecture remained open, about the distribution of a natural statistic named determinant. We prove this conjecture, in a bijective way.
Quasisymmetric functions distinguishing trees
Published in Algebraic Combinatorics, Volume 6 (2023) no. 3, pp. 595-614 • View PublicationBIB
A famous conjecture of Stanley states that his chromatic symmetric function distinguishes trees. As a quasisymmetric analogue, we conjecture that the chromatic quasisymmetric function of Shareshian and Wachs and of Ellzey distinguishes directed trees. This latter conjecture would be implied by an affirmative answer to a question of Hasebe and Tsujie about the $P$-partition enumerator distinguishing posets whose Hasse diagrams are trees. They proved the case of rooted trees and our results include a generalization of their result.
Baxter Tree-like Tableaux
Tree-like tableaux are objects in bijection with alternative or permutation tableaux. They have been the subject of a fruitful combinatorial study for the past few years. In the present work, we define and study a new subclass of tree-like tableaux enumerated by Baxter numbers. We exhibit simple bijective links between these objects and three other combinatorial classes: (packed or mosaic) floorplans, twisted Baxter permutations and triples of non-intersecting lattice paths. From several (and unrelated) works, these last objects are already known to be enumerated by Baxter numbers, and our main contribution is to provide a unifying approach to bijections between Baxter objects, where Baxter tree-like tableaux play the key role. We moreover get new enumerative results about alternating twisted Baxter permutations. Finally, we define a new subfamily of floorplans, which we call alternating floorplans, and we enumerate these combinatorial objects.
Non-ambiguous trees: new results and generalisation (Full version)

We present a new definition of non-ambiguous trees (NATs) as labelled binary trees. We thus get a differential equation whose solution can be described combinatorially. This yields a new formula for the number of NATs. We also obtain q-versions of our formula. We finally generalise NATs to higher dimension.
Graph insertion operads
Published in Formal Power Series and Algebraic Combinatorics, Séminaire Lotharingien de Combinatoire, 84B.66, 2020 • Search Publication
Using the combinatorial species setting, we propose two new operad structures on multigraphs and on pointed oriented multigraphs. The former can be considered as a canonical operad on multigraphs, directly generalizing the Kontsevich-Willwacher operad, and has many interesting suboperads. The latter is a natural extension of the pre-Lie operad in a sense developed here and related to the multigraph operad. We study some of the finitely generated suboperads of the multigraph operad and establish links between them and the commutative operad and the commutative magmatic operad.
Operads on graphs: extending the pre-Lie operad and general construction

The overall aim of this paper is to define a structure of graph operads, thus generalizing the celebrated pre-Lie operad on rooted trees. More precisely, we define two operads on multigraphs, and exhibit a non trivial link between them and the pre-Lie and Kontsevich- Willwacher operads. We study one of these operads in more detail. While its structure is too involved to exhibit a description by generators and relations, we show that it has interesting finitely generated sub-operads, with links with the commutative and the magmatic commutative operads. In particular, one of them is Koszul and this allows us to compute its Koszul dual. Finally, we introduce a new framework on species and operads and a general way to define operads on multigraphs.
New Invariants for Permutations, Orders and Graphs
Published in Adv. Appl. Math. 121 (2020), 102080 • View PublicationBIB
We study the symmetric function and polynomial combinatorial invariants of Hopf algebras of permutations, posets and graphs. We investigate their properties and the relations among them. In particular, we show that the chromatic symmetric function and many other invariants have a property we call positively $h$-alternating. This property of positively $h$-alternating leads to Schur positivity and $e$-positivity when applying the operator $\nabla$ at $q=1$. We conclude by showing that the invariants we consider can be expressed as scheduling problems.
Polynomial invariants and reciprocity theorems for the Hopf monoid of hypergraphs and its sub-monoids
Published in Formal Power Series and Algebraic Combinatorics, Séminaire Lotharingien de Combinatoire, 82B.32, 2019 • Search Publication
In arXiv:1709.07504 Aguiar and Ardila give a Hopf monoid structure on hypergraphs as well as a general construction of polynomial invariants on Hopf monoids. Using these results, we define in this paper a new polynomial invariant on hypergraphs. We give a combinatorial interpretation of this invariant on negative integers which leads to a reciprocity theorem on hypergraphs. Finally, we use this invariant to recover well-known invariants on other combinatorial objects (graphs, simplicial complexes, building sets etc) as well as the associated reciprocity theorems.

Poset structures on (m + 2)-angulations and polynomial bases of the quotient by G^m -quasisymmetric functions
For integers m, n $\ge$ 1, we describe a bijection sending dissections of the (mn + 2)-regular polygon into (m + 2)-sided polygons to a new basis of the quotient of the polynomial algebra in mn variables by an ideal generated by some kind of higher quasi-symmetric functions. We show that divisibility of the basis elements corresponds to a new partial order on dissections, which is studied in some detail.

Rectangular Schroder Parking Functions Combinatorics
We study Schroder paths drawn in a (m,n) rectangle, for any positive integers m and n. We get explicit enumeration formulas, closely linked to those for the corresponding (m,n)-Dyck paths. Moreover we study a Schroder version of (m,n)-parking functions, and associated (q,t)-analogs.

Interlaced rectangular parking functions
The aim of this work is to extend to a general $S_m\times S_n$-module context the Grossman-Bizley paradigm that allows the enumeration of Dyck paths in a $m\times n$-rectangle. We obtain an explicit formula for the the "bi-Frobenius" characteristic of what we call {\em interlaced} rectangular parking functions in an $m\times n$-rectangle. These are obtained by labelling the $n$ vertical steps of an $m\times n$-Dyck path by the numbers from $1$ to $n$, together with an independent labelling of its horizontal steps by integers from $1$ to $m$. Our formula specializes to give the Frobenius characteristic of the $S_n$-module of $m\times n$-parking functions in the general situation. Hence, it subsumes the result of Armstrong-Loehr-Warrington which furnishes such a formula for the special case when $m$ and $n$ are coprime integers.
Super quasi-symmetric functions via Young diagrams
Published in FPSAC 2014, Chicago (USA), DMTCS proc. AT, 2014, 169-180 • View PublicationBIB
We consider the multivariate generating series $F_P$ of $P$-partitions in infinitely many variables $x_1, x_2 , \dots$. For some family of ranked posets $P$, it is natural to consider an analog $N_P$ with two infinite alphabets. When we collapse these two alphabets, we trivially recover $F_P$. Our main result is the converse, that is, the explicit construction of a map sending back $F_P$ onto $N_P$. We also give a noncommutative analog of the latter. An application is the construction of a basis of WQSym with a non-negative multiplication table, which lifts a basis of QSym introduced by K. Luoto.
Quasi-symmetric functions as polynomial functions on Young diagrams
Published in Journal of Algebraic Combinatorics, 41 (3), pp. 669-706, 2015 • View PublicationBIB
We determine the most general form of a smooth function on Young diagrams, that is, a polynomial in the interlacing or multirectangular coordinates whose value depends only on the shape of the diagram. We prove that the algebra of such functions is isomorphic to quasi-symmetric functions, and give a noncommutative analog of this result.
Two operators on sandpile configurations, the sandpile model on the complete bipartite graph, and a Cyclic Lemma
Published • View PublicationBIB
We introduce two operators on stable configurations of the sandpile model that provide an algorithmic bijection between recurrent and parking configurations. This bijection preserves their equivalence classes with respect to the sandpile group. The study of these operators in the special case of the complete bipartite graph ${K}_{m,n}$ naturally leads to a generalization of the well known Cyclic Lemma of Dvoretsky and Motzkin, via pairs of periodic bi-infinite paths in the plane having slightly different slopes. We achieve our results by interpreting the action of these operators as an action on a point in the grid $\mathbb{Z}^2$ which is pointed to by one of these pairs of paths. Our Cyclic lemma allows us to enumerate several classes of polyominoes, and therefore builds on the work of Irving and Rattan (2009), Chapman et al. (2009), and Bonin et al. (2003).
Combinatorics of non-ambiguous trees

This article investigates combinatorial properties of non-ambiguous trees. These objects we define may be seen either as binary trees drawn on a grid with some constraints, or as a subset of the tree-like tableaux previously defined by Aval, Boussicault and Nadeau. The enumeration of non-ambiguous trees satisfying some additional constraints allows us to give elegant combinatorial proofs of identities due to Carlitz, and to Ehrenborg and Steingrímsson. We also provide a hook formula to count the number of non-ambiguous trees with a given underlying tree. Finally, we use non-ambiguous trees to describe a very natural bijection between parallelogram polyominoes and binary trees.
