Shape changing identities for permuted-basement nonsymmetric Macdonald polynomials
Permuted-basement Macdonald polynomials $E_α^σ(\mathbf{x};q,t)$ are nonsymmetric generalizations of symmetric Macdonald polynomials that form a basis for the polynomial ring $\mathbb{Q}(q,t)[\mathbf{x}]$ for each fixed $σ$. There are combinatorial formulas for them as generating functions over composition-shaped non-attacking fillings. In this extended abstract, we bijectively prove identities for the relationship between $E_α^σ$, $E_α^{σs_i}$, $E_{s_iα}^σ$, and $E_{s_iα}^{σs_i}$. These identities correspond to two combinatorial operations on non-attacking fillings: (1) swapping adjacent entries in the basement, generalizing a result of Alexandersson (2019), and (2) swapping adjacent parts in the shape, which yields a straightening rule for expanding $E_α^σ$ in the polynomials $\{E_{s_iα}^τ\}_τ$.
On rational representations and rational group algebra of $\operatorname{GL}_2(q)$
In this article, we study rational representations of $G=\operatorname{GL}_2(q)$, where $q$ is a prime power. Let $ρ$ be an irreducible representation of $G$ over $\mathbb{Q}$. Then $ρ$ affords the character \[ Ω(χ)=m_{\mathbb{Q}}(χ)\sum_{σ\in\operatorname{Gal}(\mathbb{Q}(χ)/\mathbb{Q})}χ^σ, \] for some irreducible complex character $χ$ of $G$, where $m_{\mathbb{Q}}(χ)$ denotes the Schur index of $χ$ over $\mathbb{Q}$, with the converse also holding. We obtain a combinatorial description for the counting of inequivalent irreducible $\mathbb{Q}$-representations of $G$ of distinct degrees. Furthermore, we present a method to construct an irreducible rational matrix representation $ρ$ of $G$ affording the character $Ω(χ)$, where $χ$ is an irreducible complex character of $G$ arising from parabolic induction. Finally, using the results from the rational representations of $G$, we derive an explicit combinatorial formula, depending only on $q$, for the Wedderburn decomposition of $\mathbb{Q}G$.

The Combinatorial Game Theory of Rex+
In this thesis we present the combinatorial game theory of the game Rex+. Rex+ is a variant of the game Hex, played on a four sided board made out of hexagons. Both players take turns placing as many stones of their colour as they would like on the board, with the objective being to force the other player to connect their two sides. We describe a new ordering, and present some preliminary results on it.

Neighborly Murai spheres and the Simplicial Steinitz Problem
We provide a classification of neighborly Murai spheres, which implies that all of them are polytopal. Furthermore, we show that each neighborly $d$-sphere with no more than $d+4$ vertices is combinatorially equivalent to a Murai sphere for any $d\geq 1$.

Three-color van der Waerden numbers grow super-exponentially
For $k$ sufficiently large, we show that there is a three-coloring of the first $2^{k (\log^* k)/4}$ positive integers without any monochromatic $k$-term arithmetic progressions. Thus, the three-color van der Waerden number $w(k;3)$ grows faster than any exponential in $k$. We further prove a new lower bound on multicolor van der Waerden numbers which resolves a problem of Erdős and Graham on canonical van der Waerden numbers.

Abundance of Unique Subhypergraphs
Given $k$-uniform hypergraphs $G$ and $H$, we say that $G$ is a unique subhypergraph of $H$ if $H$ contains exactly one subhypergraph isomorphic to $G$. For an $n$-vertex $k$-graph $H$, let $f_k(H)$ be the number of non-isomorphic unique subhypergraphs of $H$, normalized by $2^{\binom n k}/n!$, and let $f_k(n)$ be the maximum of $f_k(H)$ over all $n$-vertex $k$-graphs $H$. In the graph case $k=2$, Erdős asked whether there exists a constant $δ>0$ such that $f_2(n)>δ$ for all $n$, offering \$100 for a proof and \$25 for a disproof. Recently, Bradač and Christoph answered this question in the negative,, proving that $f_2(n)$ tends to $0$, or equivalently that no $n$-vertex graph contains a positive proportion of all $n$-vertex graphs as unique subgraphs. In this paper we show that the situation is fundamentally different for $k$-uniform hypergraphs with $k\ge3$. In particular, for every fixed integer $k\ge 3$, we prove that $\liminf_{n\to\infty} f_k(n) \ge 2/9$.

The conflated expression graph for an arbitrary permutation
We show that the conflated expression graph for an arbitrary permutation has a unique minimal element and a unique maximal element, and every reduced expression sits on a maximal chain from the source to the sink. This generalizes the work of Manin-Schechtman regarding higher Bruhat orders, and gives an independent and self-contained proof of certain results in Hothem. In addition, we give explicit algorithms for elements in the top and bottom commutation classes. Given any reduced expression $ρ$, we give an explicit method for producing a maximal chain containing $ρ$.

Exact values of rainbow Turán numbers for fan graphs and even wheel graphs
An edge-colored graph is called rainbow if all its edges have distinct colors. For a fixed graph $H$, the rainbow Turán number $\exstar(n, H)$ is the maximum number of edges in a properly edge-colored graph with $n$ vertices that does not contain a rainbow subgraph isomorphic to $H$. A $t$-fan $\Ft$ ($t \geq 2$) is a graph formed by $t$ triangles sharing a common vertex. A wheel graph $\Wn$ is constructed by connecting a new vertex $x$ to all vertices of a cycle $\Cn$ with $n$ vertices. Keevash, Mubayi, Sudakov, Verstraëte~({\small Combin. Probab. Comput., 2007}) showed that \[ \exstar(n, F_t) \geq \floor{\frac{n^2}{4}} + (t-1)\floor{\frac{n}{2}} \] by constructing extremal graphs for $n\not\equiv 2\pmod 4$. In this paper, we propose such a method: for a graph $H$, the upper bound of $\exstar(n, H)$ can be analyzed using the rainbow Turán number of $H'$, where $H'$ is obtained by deleting one vertex from $H$. By applying this method, we determine the exact values of the rainbow Turán numbers for two families of graphs when the number of vertices $n$ is sufficiently large. Specifically, we obtain: (1) when $n > 230t$, \[ \exstar(n, \Ft) = \floor{\frac{n^2}{4}} + (t-1)\floor{\frac{n}{2}} - \Dn, \] where $\Dn = 1$ if $n \equiv 2 \pmod{4}$, and $\Dn = 0$ otherwise; (2) for graphs $H$ satisfying $W_{2t} \subset H \subset \Kts$ ($t \leq s$), when $n$ is sufficiently large, \[ \exstar(n, H) = \begin{cases} \floor{\frac{n^2}{4}} + \floor{\frac{(t-1)n}{2}} - \Dn & \text{if } t \text{ is odd}, \\ \floor{\frac{n^2}{4}} + \floor{\frac{(t-1)n}{2}} & \text{if } t \text{ is even}. \end{cases} \]

The art of counterpoint: a Mazzola-type three-voice first-species counterpoint model
We propose a three-voice extension of Mazzola's algebraic model of first-species counterpoint. A three-voice sonority is represented as \(a+\varepsilon_1 .b+\varepsilon_2 .c\), where \(a\) is the lower voice and \(b,c\) are the lower--middle and lower--upper interval classes. Starting from a strong dichotomy \((X/Y)\) of \(\mathbb Z_{2k}\), we introduce a harmonic mask \(H\subseteq X\times X\) and define the admissible three-voice consonances \(X_H\). We then construct a Hichert-type successor relation by applying the ordinary two-voice admitted-successor mechanism to the active pairwise projections. In the twelve-tone Fuxian case, the proposed mask has 26 admissible bass-rooted interval pairs, including complete and incomplete sonorities, and yields a finite directed successor structure.
Upper Bounds on Multiple $b$-Burst Deletion-Correcting Codes
Motivated by their applications in DNA-based storage systems, codes capable of correcting consecutive deletions have attracted significant attention. An important class of such codes consists of those that can correct multiple consecutive deletion errors, commonly referred to as multiple $b$-burst deletion-correcting codes. In this paper, we investigate the fundamental limits of multiple $b$-burst deletion-correcting codes. Specifically, we first characterize several structural properties of the associated deletion balls. Then, leveraging these properties, we derive several upper bounds and a combinatorial lower bound on the maximum size of such codes. As a consequence, our bounds improve upon the previously known results for general parameter regimes and are shown to be asymptotically optimal for certain cases.

An extremal problem for completely unclustered Burrows-Wheeler images
The Burrows--Wheeler transform is usually viewed as a clustering transform: it tends to group equal letters into long runs. We study the opposite extremal regime, where the BWT output is completely unclustered, that is, has as many equal-letter runs as positions. Known results imply, on the one hand, that the number of runs in the BWT of a Lyndon word can increase by at most a factor of two, and, on the other hand, that over every alphabet of size at least three completely unclustered BWT images exist in every length. This leads to the extremal problem lying between these two facts. For \(k\ge3\), let \(U_k(n)\) be the minimum cyclic run number of a primitive necklace of length \(n\) whose BWT has \(n\) runs. We prove the universal lower bound \(U_k(n)\ge\lceil n/2\rceil\), reduce the sharpness problem for one-cycle BWT images \(L\) to the Hamming identity \[ \cruns(\BWT^{-1}(L))=\dH(L,\sort(L)), \] and develop a natural multiset-of-necklaces relaxation with an explicit constant-cycle correction. We compute the small values, including the exceptional value \(U_k(6)=4\), prove a parity obstruction for the Parikh vectors of sharp examples, and determine the multiset relaxation exactly. Finally, for every prime \(p\equiv5\pmod8\) for which \(2\) is a primitive root modulo \(p\), we prove sharpness in the adjacent lengths \(p-1\) and \(p\). Under the corresponding Artin-type infinitude hypothesis, this gives infinitely many adjacent sharp pairs.

Extremality of tautological classes of matroids in nef cones
We study the extremality properties of rays generated by tautological Chern classes of matroids in the polyhedral nef cones of the permutohedral variety. Our main result provides necessary and sufficient conditions a matroid has to meet for its tautological Chern classes to generate extremal rays. Our approach yields a new and large family of extremal rays that interpolates between two previously known classes coming from rank functions and Bergman classes of matroids. We further discuss how this theorem extends to the stellahedral variety through augmented tautological Chern classes.

Finite Kleshchev bipartitions and $q$-trinomial coefficients
The Kleshchev multipartitions arise in the representation theory for the Ariki-Koike algebras. In previous work, Li, Stanton, Xue, Yee, and the author considered a refined enumeration for the $2$-dimensional case, namely, the Kleshchev bipartitions, by invoking the $2$-residue statistic for partitions. In this paper, we make further elaboration by bounding the largest part of the bipartitions and show that the related counting functions are connected with two families of $q$-trinomial coefficients introduced by Andrews and Baxter.
A construction of spherical $5$-designs with $O(d^2)$ points
For every $d\geq1$ we give an explicit equal-weight spherical $5$-design in $\mathbb{S}^{d-1}\subset\mathbb{R}^d$ with at most $72d^2$ points. Our approach utilizes recent construction of complex projective $2$-designs based on Sidon sets.
A natural eñe product construction of the Big Witt ring
We give a straightforward, self-contained, and natural construction of the Big Witt ring using the eñe product that is defined through the action on zeros of polynomials. This is in contrast with classical constructions of the Big Witt ring that use formulas out of nowhere.

The number of cut-edges and conflict-free connection number in planar graphs
A \textit{cut-edge} of a connected graph is an edge whose deletion increases the number of components. In this paper, we first state some conditions for a planar graph to have a few cut-edges. After that, we use the main results to study the conditions for a colored planar graph to have a bounded conflict-free connection number.

Convolution-type Identity for Characteristic Polynomials of Geometric Semilattices
We establish a convolution formula for the characteristic polynomial of a finite geometric semilattice $M$: \[ χ(M,st)=\sum_{X\in \underline{M}} s^{r-{\rm rk}_{\underline{M}}(X)}χ(\underline{M}^X,t)\,χ(M_{(X)},s), \] where $\underline{M}$ denotes the centralization of $M$, and $M_{(X)}$ denotes the localization at $X$. This generalizes a nice formula of Southerland, Southern, and Zhou, which is recovered at $s=1$. When specialized to hyperplane arrangements, the identity yields a new expansion closely related to Wang's convolution formula. We further provide a combinatorial interpretation of the convolution formula using the finite field method over $\mathbb{F}_{p^2}$ and $\mathbb{F}_p$.

A Refinement of the Fixed--Pixed Points Equidistribution on restricted Permutations
Motivated by a recent conjecture of Bsila, Cox, Hugo, Styron and Zhuang concerning fixed points and pixed points on pattern-avoiding permutations, we prove a bivariate refinement involving descent statistics. Given a set of permutations $Π$, let $\mathfrak{S}_n(Π)$ denote the set of permutations in the symmetric group $\mathfrak{S}_n$ that avoid every element of $Π$ in the sense of pattern avoidance. For each set $Π$ appearing in their conjecture, we show that the pairs of statistics $(\mathrm{des},\mathrm{fix})$ and $(\mathrm{ides},\mathrm{pix})$ are equidistributed over $\mathfrak{S}_n(Π)$. Our proof is based on explicit ordinary generating functions for the corresponding pattern-avoiding classes.

Combinatorial interpretations of Tutte polynomials at the point $(2,-1)$
Let $G$ be a simple connected graph, and let $T_{G}(x,y)$ be the Tutte polynomial of $G$. Motivated by the works in \cite{Ma}, we, in this paper, introduce the even-left spanning forests of $G$ and odd $G$-partitionable permutations, and show that $T_{G}(2,-1)$ is equal to both the number of even-left spanning forests of $G$ and the number of odd $G$-partitionable permutations. In particular, for a complete graph $K_n$, we prove that $T_{K_{n}}(2,-1)$ is the number of alternating permutations on $\{1,2,\dots,n+1\}$, using two distinct techniques: a recurrence relation and an explicit bijection construction.

AHA! RSK
We give a spectral realization of the Robinson-Schensted-Knuth (RSK) correspondence in terms of the representation theory of the symmetric group $S_n$ and the degenerate affine Hecke algebra (AHA) $H_n$. We view RSK, which builds a pair of standard Young tableaux from a permutation, as a special case of rectification, also known as Jeu de Taquin, which turns skew tableaux into straight ones. In this framing, the initial permutation corresponds to a skew tableau of staircase shape. To interpret this in terms of representation theory, take permutations to label weight vectors in a generic $H_n$-module $V(a_1, \ldots , a_n)$, which is isomorphic to $\mathbb{C}[S_n]$ as an $S_n$-module. Writing permutations as staircases amounts to placing these weight vectors inside the regular representation of a larger symmetric group containing $S_n$; more geometrically, we push $S_n$ to the right toward infinity so its Jucys-Murphy (JM) elements have enough room to represent the external translations of $H_n$. Then, rectification corresponds to squeezing out this extra room from the left, leaving only $S_n$ and its regular JM elements as the limit of the external translations. By expressing slides via sequences of exchanges of consecutive values inside the tableau, we can model rectification by an operator acting on the regular representation. This lets us explicitly write down the change of basis between $H_n$-weight vectors and $S_n$-weight vectors, where the latter are eigenvectors of the JM elements in $S_n$ acting both on the left and on the right, and hence labeled by pairs of standard tableaux. The resulting correspondence between the labels of the weight vectors is exactly RSK.
