Invariants of nested Hilbert and Quot schemes on surfaces
Let $(S,p)$ be a smooth pointed surface. In the first part of this paper we study motivic invariants of punctual nested Hilbert schemes attached to $(S,p)$ using the Hilbert-Samuel stratification. We compute two infinite families of motivic classes of punctual nested Hilbert schemes, corresponding to nestings of the form $(2,n)$ and $(3,n)$. As a consequence, we are able to give a lower bound for the number of irreducible components of $S_p^{[2,n]}$ and $S_p^{[3,n]}$.
In the second part of this paper we characterise completely the generating series of Euler characteristics of all nested Hilbert and Quot schemes. This is achieved via a novel technique, involving differential operators modelled on the enumerative problem, which we introduce. From this analysis, we deduce that in the Hilbert scheme case the generating series is the product of a rational function by the celebrated Euler's product formula counting integer partitions. In higher rank, we derive functional equations relating the nested Quot scheme generating series to the rank one series, corresponding to nested Hilbert schemes.
Infinite-dimensional $q$-Jacobi Markov processes
The classical Jacobi polynomials on the interval $[-1,1]$ are eigenfunctions of a second order differential operator. It is well known that this operator generates a diffusion process on $[-1,1]$. Further, this fact admits an extension to $N$ dimensions (Demni (2010), Remling-Rösler (2011)) leading to a $3$-parameter family of diffusion processes $X_N$ on the space of $N$-particle configurations in $[-1,1]$. The generators of the processes $X_N$ are related to Heckman-Opdam's Jacobi polynomials attached to the root system $BC_N$.
The first result of the paper shows that the processes $X_N$ have a $q$-analog, the $N$-dimensional $q$-Jacobi processes. These are Feller Markov processes related to the $N$-variate symmetric big $q$-Jacobi polynomials. The later polynomials were introduced and studied by Stokman (1997) and Stokman-Koornwinder (1997); they depend on two Macdonald parameters $(q,t)$ and $4$ extra continuous parameters.
The $N$-dimensional $q$-Jacobi processes are still defined on a space of $N$-particle configurations, only now the particles live not on $[-1,1]$ but on certain one-dimensional $q$-grids.
The second result (the main one) asserts that the $N$-dimensional $q$-Jacobi processes survive a limit transition as $N$ goes to infinity and two of the extra parameters vary together with $N$ in a certain way. In the limit, one obtains a family of Feller Markov processes which are infinite-dimensional in the sense that they live on configurations with infinitely many particles. The proof uses a lifting of the multivariate big $q$-Jacobi polynomials to the algebra of symmetric functions -- a construction that does not hold for the Heckman-Opdam's Jacobi polynomials.
Note also that the large-$N$ limit transition is carried out without any space scaling, which would be impossible in the continuous case.
When do Schubert polynomial products stabilize?
The "back-stabilization number" for products of Schubert polynomials is the distance the corresponding permutations must be shifted before the structure constants stabilize. We give an explicit formula for this number and thereby prove a conjecture of N. Li in a strengthened form. This leads to an additional result: a formula for the smallest $n$ such that a given Schubert product expands completely over $S_n$.
Our method is to explore back-stable fundamental slide polynomials and their products combinatorially, in the context of their associated words. We use three main tools: (i) an algebra consisting of "colored words", with a modified shuffle product, and which contains the rings of back (quasi)symmetric functions as subquotients; (ii) the combinatorics of increasing suffixes of reduced words; and (iii) the lift of differential operators to the space of colored words.
Differential operators, anisotropy, and simplicial spheres
We find identities involving differential operators in the generic artinian reduction of the Stanley-Reisner ring of a simplicial sphere in any positive characteristic. These identities generalize the characteristic 2 identities used by Papadakis and Petrotou to give a proof of the algebraic g-conjecture. We show that these identities are a shadow of an identity on the degree map, and we use them to prove the anisotropy of certain forms on the generic artinian reduction of the Stanley--Reisner ring and to prove weak Lefschetz results.
Edge universality of $β$-additions through Dunkl operators
It is well known that the edge limit of Gaussian/Laguerre Beta ensembles is given by Airy($β$) point process. We prove an universality result that this also holds for a general class of additions of Gaussian and Laguerre ensembles. In order to make sense of $β$-addition, we introduce type A Bessel function as the characteristic function of our matrix ensemble following the line of Gorin-Marcus, Benaych Georges-Cuenca-Gorin. Then we extract its moment information through the action of Dunkl operators, a class of differential operators originated from special function theory. We do the action explicitly on the Bessel generating functions of our additions, and after the asymptotic analysis, we obtain certain limiting functional in terms of conditional Brownian bridges of the Laplace transform of Airy($β$), which is universal up to proper rescaling among all our additions.
A Note on the Rogers-Szegö Polynomial $q$-Differential Operators
In this paper, we introduce the Rogers-Szegö deformed $q$-differential operators g$_{n}(bD_{q}|u)$ based on $q$-differential operator $D_{q}$. The motivation for introducing the operators g$_{n}(bD_{q})$ is that their limit turns out to be the $q$-exponential operator T$(bD_{q})$ given by Chen. The deformed homogeneous Al-Salam-Carlitz polynomials $Ψ_{m}^{(q^{-n})}(ub,x|uq^{-1})$ can easily be represented by using the operators g$_{n}(bD_{q}|u)$. Identities relating the new general Al-Salam-Carlitz polynomial, defined by Cao et al., the generalized, and homogeneous Al-Salam-Carlitz polynomials $Φ_{m}^{(q^n)}(b,x|q)$ and basic hypergeometric series are given.
On the Heine Binomial Operators
In this paper, we introduce the Heine binomial operators H$_{n}(bD_{q})$ based on $q$-differential operator $D_{q}$. The motivation for introducing the operators H$_{n}(bD_{q})$ is that their limit turns out to be the $q$-exponential operator T$(bD_{q})$ given by Chen. The Hahn polynomials $Φ_{m}^{(q^n)}(b,x|q)$ can easily be represented by using the operators H$_{n}(bD_{q})$. Here, we derive $q$-exponential and ordinary generating function, Mehler's formula, Rogers formula, and other identities for the polynomials $Φ_{m}^{(q^n)}(b,x|q)$.
The $\mathfrak{sl}_2$-actions on the symmetric polynomials and on Young diagrams
In the article, two implementations of the representation of the complex Lie algebra $\mathfrak{sl}_2$ on the algebra of symmetric polynomials $Λ_n$ by differential operators are proposed. The realizations of irreducible subrepresentations, both finite-dimensional and infinite-dimensional, are described, and the decomposition of $Λ_n$ is found. The actions on the Schur polynomials is also determined. By using an isomorphism between $Λ_n$ and the vector space of Young diagrams $\mathbb{Q}\mathcal{Y}_n$ with no more than $n$ rows, these representations are transferred to $\mathbb{Q}\mathcal{Y}_n$.
Wronskians form the inverse system of the arcs of a double point
The ideal of the arc scheme of a double point or, equivalently, the differential ideal generated by the ideal of a double point is a primary ideal in an infinite-dimensional polynomial ring supported at the origin. This ideal has a rich combinatorial structure connecting it to singularity theory, partition identities, representation theory, and differential algebra. Macaulay inverse system is a powerful tool for studying the structure of primary ideals which describes an ideal in terms of certain linear differential operators. In the present paper, we show that the inverse system of the ideal of the arc scheme of a double point is precisely a vector space spanned by all the Wronskians of the variables and their formal derivatives. We then apply this characterization to extend our recent result on Poincaré-type series for such ideals.
The diagonal derivative of a skew Schur polynomial
We prove a formula for the image of a skew Schur polynomial $s_{λ/μ}\left( x_{1}, x_{2}, \ldots, x_{N}\right) $ under the differential operator $\nabla:= \dfrac{\partial}{\partial x_{1}} +\dfrac{\partial}{\partial x_{2}}+\cdots+\dfrac{\partial}{\partial x_{N}}$. This generalizes a formula of Weigandt for $\nabla\left( s_λ\right) $.
Differential equations for the series of hypermaps with control on their full degree profile
We consider the generating series of oriented and non-oriented hypermaps with controlled degrees of vertices, hyperedges and faces. It is well known that these series have natural expansions in terms of Schur and Zonal symmetric functions, and with some particular specializations, they satisfy the celebrated KP and BKP equations.
We prove that the full generating series of hypermaps satisfy a family of differential equations. We give a first proof which works for an $α$ deformation of these series related to Jack polynomials. This proof is based on a recent construction formula for Jack characters using differential operators. We also provide a combinatorial proof for the orientable case.
Our approach also applies to the series of $k$-constellations with control of the degrees of vertices of all colors. In other words, we obtain an equation for the generating function of Hurwitz numbers (and their $α$-deformations) with control of full ramification profiles above an arbitrary number of points. Such equations are new even in the orientable case.

Using the method of the $q$-exponential differential operator, we give an extension of the Sears $_4φ_3$ transformation formula. Based on this extended formula and a $q$-series expansion formula for an analytic function around the origin, we present a transformation formula for triple $q$-series, which includes several interesting special cases, especially a double $q$-series summation formula. Some applications of this transformation formula to Rogers-Hecke type series are discussed. More than 100 Rogers-Hecke type identities including Andrews' identities for the sums of three squares and the sums of three triangular numbers are obtained.
Differential operators, grammars and Young tableaux
In algebraic combinatorics and formal calculation, context-free grammar is defined by a formal derivative based on a set of substitution rules. In this paper, we investigate this issue from three related viewpoints. Firstly, we introduce a differential operator method. As one of the applications, we deduce a new grammar for the Narayana polynomials. Secondly, we investigate the normal ordered grammars associated with the Eulerian polynomials. Thirdly, motivated by the theory of differential posets, we introduce a box sorting algorithm which leads to a bijection between the terms in the expansion of $(cD)^nc$ and a kind of ordered weak set partitions, where $c$ is a smooth function in the indeterminate $x$ and $D$ is the derivative with respect to $x$. Using a map from ordered weak set partitions to standard Young tableaux, we find an expansion of $(cD)^nc$ in terms of standard Young tableaux. Combining this with the theory of context-free grammars, we provide a unified interpretations for the Ramanujan polynomials, André polynomials, left peak polynomials, interior peak polynomials, Eulerian polynomials of types $A$ and $B$, $1/2$-Eulerian polynomials, second-order Eulerian polynomials, and Narayana polynomials of types $A$ and $B$ in terms of standard Young tableaux. Along the same lines, we present an expansion of the powers of $c^kD$ in terms of standard Young tableaux, where $k$ is a positive integer. In particular, we provide four interpretations for the second-order Eulerian polynomials. All of the above apply to the theory of formal differential operator rings.
Powers of the operator $u(z)\frac{d}{dz}$ and their connection with some combinatorial numbers
In this paper the operator $A = u(z)\frac{d}{dz}$ is considered, where $u$ is an entire or meromorphic function in the complex plane. The expansion of $A^{k}$ ($k\geq1$) with the help of the powers of the differential operator $D=\frac{d}{dz}$ is obtained, and it is shown that this expansion depends on special numbers. Connections between these numbers and known combinatorial numbers are given. Some special cases of the operator $A$, corresponding to $u(z) = z$, $u(z) = e^{z}$, $u(z) = \frac{1}{z}$, are considered.
Algebras of graph functions
Differential operators acting on functions defined on graphs by different studies do not form a consistent framework for the analysis of real or complex functions in the sense that they do not satisfy the Leibniz rule of any order. In this paper we propose a new family of operators that satisfy the Leibniz rule, and as special cases, produce the specific operators defined in the literature, such as the graph difference and the graph Laplacian. We propose a framework to define the order of a differential operator consistently using the Leibniz rule in Lie algebraic setting.
Furthermore by identifying the space of functions defined on graph edges with the tensor product of node functions we construct a Lie bialgebra of graph functions and reinterpret the difference operator as a co-bracket. As an application, some explicit solutions of Schrödinger and Fokker-Planck equations are given.
A note on the map expansion of Jack polynomials
In a recent work, Maciej Dołe\k{}ga and the author have given a formula of the expansion of the Jack polynomial $J^{(α)}_λ$ in the power-sum basis as a non-orientability generating series of bipartite maps whose edges are decorated with the boxes of the partition $λ$.
We conjecture here a variant of this expansion in which we restrict the sum on maps whose edges are injectively decorated by the boxes of $λ$. We prove this conjecture for Jack polynomials indexed by 2-column partitions. The proof uses a mix of combinatorial methods and differential operator computations.
On combinatorial differential operators on species of structures
In 1981, André Joyal provided a combinatorial interpretation of the algebra of formal power series, a central gadget in the toolkit of enumerative combinatorics. In Joyal's theory of species of structures, combinatorial species (like permutations, graphs, partitions, etc.) are incarnated in endofunctors on the category of finite sets and bijections. Species can be added, multiplied, composed and differentiated; new species arise as solutions to functional and differential equations. Moreover, everything achieved at the level of species can be directly translated into the language of generating series for enumeration of labelled, as well as unlabelled structures. More recently, Labelle and Lamathe developed a general theory of differential operators on species of structures, such as cycles or diagrams of derivatives. The main goal of this dissertation is to present some parts of this theory.

In this paper, we apply the combinatorial results on counting permutations with fixed pinnacle and vale sets to evaluate the special values of the spectral zeta functions of Sturm-Liouville differential operators. As applications, we get a combinatorial formula for the special values of spectral zeta functions and give a new explicit formula for Bernoulli numbers.
$p$-Laplacian Operators on Hypergraphs
This thesis generalizes the differential operators on standard oriented graphs and oriented hypergraphs introduced in 10.1137/15M1022793 and arXiv:2007.00325. The extended concepts of gradients, adjoints and $p$-Laplacians for vertices and (hyper)arcs include novel parametrization possibilities, while simultaneously fulfilling expected properties of the continuum setting, which are not granted by current definitions.

Let $Ω_n$ be the ring of polynomial-valued holomorphic differential forms on complex $n$-space, referred to in physics as the superspace ring of rank $n$. The symmetric group $\mathfrak{S}_n$ acts diagonally on $Ω_n$ by permuting commuting and anticommuting generators simultaneously. We let $SI_n \subseteq Ω_n$ be the ideal generated by $\mathfrak{S}_n$-invariants with vanishing constant term and study the quotient $SR_n = Ω_n / SI_n$ of superspace by this ideal. We calculate the doubly-graded Hilbert series of $SR_n$ and prove an `operator theorem' which characterizes the harmonic space $SH_n \subseteq Ω_n$ attached to $SR_n$ in terms of the Vandermonde determinant and certain differential operators. Our methods employ commutative algebra results which were used in the study of Hessenberg varieties. Our results prove conjectures of N. Bergeron, Li, Machacek, Sulzgruber, Swanson, Wallach, and Zabrocki.
