We enumerate interlaced pairs of parking functions whose underlying Dyck path has a bounded height. We obtain an explicit formula for this enumeration in the form of a quotient of analogs of Chebicheff polynomials having coefficients in the ring of symmetric functions.

An $(a,b)$-Dyck path $P$ is a lattice path from $(0,0)$ to $(b,a)$ that stays above the line $y=\frac{a}{b}x$. The zeta map is a curious rule that maps the set of $(a,b)$-Dyck paths into itself; it is conjecturally bijective, and we provide progress towards proof of bijectivity in this paper, by showing that knowing zeta of $P$ and zeta of $¶$ conjugate is enough to recover $P$.
Our method begets an area-preserving involution $χ$ on the set of $(a,b)$-Dyck paths when $ζ$ is a bijection, as well as a new method for calculating $ζ^{-1}$ on classical Dyck paths. For certain nice $(a,b)$-Dyck paths we give an explicit formula for $ζ^{-1}$ and $χ$ and for additional $(a,b)$-Dyck paths we discuss how to compute $ζ^{-1}$ and $χ$ inductively.
We also explore Armstrong's skew length statistic and present two new combinatorial methods for calculating the zeta map involving lasers and interval intersections. We provide a combinatorial statistic $δ$ that can be used to recursively compute $ζ^{-1}$ and show that $δ$ is computable from $ζ(P)$ in the Fuss-Catalan case.

Given a coprime pair $(m,n)$ of positive integers, rational Catalan numbers $\frac{1}{m+n} \binom{m+n}{m,n}$ counts two combinatorial objects:rational $(m,n)$-Dyck paths are lattice paths in the $m\times n$ rectangle that never go below the diagonal; $(m,n)$-cores are partitions with no hook length equal to $m$ or $n$.Anderson established a bijection between $(m,n)$-Dyck paths and $(m,n)$-cores. We define a new transformation, called rank complement, on rational Dyck paths. We show that rank complement corresponds to conjugation of $(m,n)$-cores under Anderson's bijection. This leads to: i) a new approach to characterizing $n$-cores; ii) a simple approach for counting the number of self-conjugate $(m,n)$-cores; iii) a proof of the equivalence of two conjectured combinatorial sum formulas, one over rational $(m,n)$-Dyck paths and the other over $(m,n)$-cores, for rational Catalan polynomials.

Juggling patterns can be described by a sequence of cards which keep track of the relative order of the balls at each step. This interpretation has many algebraic and combinatorial properties, with connections to Stirling numbers, Dyck paths, Narayana numbers, boson normal ordering, arc-labeled digraphs, and more. Some of these connections are investigated with a particular focus on enumerating juggling patterns satisfying certain ordering constraints, including where the number of crossings is fixed.

We investigate a natural Heyting algebra structure on the set of Dyck paths of the same length. We provide a geometrical description of the operations of pseudocomplement and relative pseudocomplement, as well as of regular elements. We also find a logic-theoretic interpretation of such Heyting algebras, which we call Dyck algebras, by showing that they are the algebraic counterpart of a certain fragment of a classical interval temporal logic (also known as Halpern-Shoham logic). Finally, we propose a generalization of our approach, suggesting a similar study of the Heyting algebra arising from the poset of intervals of a finite poset using Birkhöff duality. In order to illustrate this, we show how several combinatorial parameters of Dyck paths can be expressed in terms of the Heyting algebra structure of Dyck algebras together with a certain total order on the set of atoms of each Dyck algebra.
Interlaced rectangular parking functions
The aim of this work is to extend to a general $S_m\times S_n$-module context the Grossman-Bizley paradigm that allows the enumeration of Dyck paths in a $m\times n$-rectangle. We obtain an explicit formula for the the "bi-Frobenius" characteristic of what we call {\em interlaced} rectangular parking functions in an $m\times n$-rectangle. These are obtained by labelling the $n$ vertical steps of an $m\times n$-Dyck path by the numbers from $1$ to $n$, together with an independent labelling of its horizontal steps by integers from $1$ to $m$. Our formula specializes to give the Frobenius characteristic of the $S_n$-module of $m\times n$-parking functions in the general situation. Hence, it subsumes the result of Armstrong-Loehr-Warrington which furnishes such a formula for the special case when $m$ and $n$ are coprime integers.

We prove that the combinatorial side of the "Rational Shuffle Conjecture" provides a Schur-positive symmetric polynomial. Furthermore, we prove that the contribution of a given rational Dyck path can be computed as a certain skew LLT polynomial, thus generalizing the result of Haglund, Haiman, Loehr, Remmel and Ulyanov. The corresponding skew diagram is described explicitly in terms of a certain (m,n)-core.

Using the generalized method of steepest descents for the case of two coalescing saddle points, we derive an asymptotic expression for the bivariate generating function of Dyck paths, weighted according to their length and their area in the limit of the area generating variable tending towards 1. The result is valid uniformly for a range of the length generating variable, including the tricritical point of the model.
The $(m,n)$-rational $q, t$-Catalan polynomials for $m=3$ and their $q,t$-symmetry

We introduce a new statistic, skip, on rational $(3,n)$-Dyck paths and define a marked rank word for each path when $n$ is not a multiple of 3. If a triple of valid statistics (area, skip, dinv) are given, we have an algorithm to construct the marked rank word corresponding to the triple. By considering all valid triples we give an explicit formula for the $(m,n)$-rational $q,t$-Catalan polynomials when $m=3$. Then there is a natural bijection on the triples of statistics (area, skips, dinv) which exchanges the statistics area and dinv while fixing the skip. Thus we prove the $q,t$-symmetry of $(m,n)$-rational $q, t$-Catalan polynomials for $m=3$.

Recently, Kenyon and Wilson introduced Dyck tilings, which are certain tilings of the region between two Dyck paths. The enumeration of Dyck tilings is related with hook formulas for forests and the combinatorics of Hermite polynomials. The first goal of this work is to give an alternative point of view on Dyck tilings by making use of the weak order and the Bruhat order on permutations. Then we introduce two natural generalizations: $k$-Dyck tilings and symmetric Dyck tilings. We are led to consider Stirling permutations, and define an analog of the Bruhat order on them. We show that certain families of $k$-Dyck tilings are in bijection with intervals in this order. We also enumerate symmetric Dyck tilings.
A general theory of Wilf-equivalence for Catalan structures

The existence of apparently coincidental equalities (also called Wilf-equivalences) between the enumeration sequences, or generating functions, of various hereditary classes of combinatorial structures has attracted significant interest. We investigate such coincidences among non-crossing matchings and a variety of other Catalan structures including Dyck paths, 231-avoiding permutations and plane forests. In particular we consider principal classes defined by not containing an occurrence of a single given structure. An easily computed equivalence relation among structures is described such that if two structures are equivalent then the associated principal classes have the same enumeration sequence. We give an asymptotic estimate of the number of equivalence classes of this relation among structures of a given size and show that it is exponentially smaller than the corresponding Catalan number. In other words these "coincidental" equalities are in fact very common among principal classes. Our results also allow us to prove, in a unified and bijective manner, several known Wilf-equivalences from the literature.

Recently, a new class of words, denoted by L_n, was shown to be in bijection with a subset of the Dyck paths of length 2n having cardinality given by the (n-1)-st Catalan number. Here, we consider statistics on L_n recording the number of occurrences of a letter i. In the cases i = 0 and i = 1, we are able to determine explicit expressions for the number of members of L_n containing a given number of zeros or ones, which generalizes the prior result. To do so, we make use of recurrences to derive a functional equation satisfied by the generating function, which we solve by a new method employing Chebyshev polynomials. Recurrences and generating function formulas are also provided in the case of general i.

A circular Pascal array is a periodization of the familiar Pascal's triangle. Using simple operators defined on periodic sequences, we find a direct relationship between the ranges of the circular Pascal arrays and numbers of certain lattice paths within corridors, which are related to Dyck paths. This link provides new, short proofs of some nontrivial formulas found in the lattice-path literature.
Ascent sequences avoiding pairs of patterns

Ascent sequences were introduced by Bousquet-Melou et al. in connection with (2+2)-avoiding posets and their pattern avoidance properties were first considered by Duncan and Steingrimsson. In this paper, we consider ascent sequences of length $n$ avoiding two patterns of length 3, and we determine an exact enumeration for 16 different pairs of patterns. Methods include simple recurrences, bijections to other combinatorial objects (including Dyck paths and pattern-avoiding permutations), and generating trees. We also provide an analogue of the Erdos-Szekeres Theorem to prove that any sufficiently long ascent sequence contains either many copies of the same number or a long increasing subsequence, with a precise bound.
An extension of Tamari lattices

For any finite path $v$ on the square grid consisting of north and east unit steps, starting at (0,0), we construct a poset Tam$(v)$ that consists of all the paths weakly above $v$ with the same number of north and east steps as $v$. For particular choices of $v$, we recover the traditional Tamari lattice and the $m$-Tamari lattice.
Let $\overleftarrow{v}$ be the path obtained from $v$ by reading the unit steps of $v$ in reverse order, replacing the east steps by north steps and vice versa. We show that the poset Tam$(v)$ is isomorphic to the dual of the poset Tam$(\overleftarrow{v})$. We do so by showing bijectively that the poset Tam$(v)$ is isomorphic to the poset based on rotation of full binary trees with the fixed canopy $v$, from which the duality follows easily. This also shows that Tam$(v)$ is a lattice for any path $v$. We also obtain as a corollary of this bijection that the usual Tamari lattice, based on Dyck paths of height $n$, is a partition of the (smaller) lattices Tam$(v)$, where the $v$ are all the paths on the square grid that consist of $n-1$ unit steps.
We explain possible connections between the poset Tam$(v)$ and (the combinatorics of) the generalized diagonal coinvariant spaces of the symmetric group.
Enumerations of humps and peaks in $(k,a)$-paths and $(n,m)$-Dyck paths via bijective proofs

Recently Mansour and Shattuck studied $(k,a)$-paths and gave formulas that relate the total number of humps (peaks) in all $(k,a)$-paths to the number of super $(k,a)$-paths. These results generalize earlier results of Regev on Dyck paths and Motzkin paths. Their proofs are based on generating functions and they asked for bijective proofs for their results. In this paper we first give bijective proofs of Mansour and Shattuck's results, then we extend our study to $(n,m)$-Dyck paths. We give a bijection that relates the total number of peaks in all $(n,m)$-Dyck paths to certain free $(n,m)$-paths when $n$ and $m$ are coprime. From this bijection we get the number of $(n,m)$-Dyck paths with exactly $j$ peaks, which is a generalization of the well-known result that the number Dyck paths of order $n$ with exactly $j$ peaks is the Narayana number $\frac{1}{k}{n-1\choose k-1}{n\choose k-1}$.
Multi-cores, posets, and lattice paths

Hooks are prominent in representation theory (of symmetric groups) and they play a role in number theory (via cranks associated to Ramanujan's congruences). A partition of a positive integer $n$ has a Young diagram representation. To each cell in the diagram there is an associated statistic called hook length, and if a number $t$ is absent from the diagram then the partition is called a $t$-core. A partition is an $(s,t)$-core if it is both an $s$- and a $t$-core. Since the work of Anderson on $(s,t)$-cores, the topic has received a growing attention. This paper expands the discussion to multiple-cores. More precisely, we explore $(s,s+1,\dots,s+k)$-core partitions much in the spirit of a recent paper by Stanley and Zanello. In fact, our results exploit connections between three combinatorial objects: multi-cores, posets and lattice paths (with a novel generalization of Dyck paths). Additional results and conjectures are scattered throughout the paper. For example, one of these statements implies a curious symmetry for twin-prime $(s,s+2)$-core partitions.
On a new collection of words in the Catalan family

In this note, we provide a bijection between a new collection of words on nonnegative integers of length n and Dyck paths of length 2n-2, thus proving that this collection belongs to the Catalan family. The surprising key step in this bijection is the zeta map which is an important map in the study of q,t-Catalan numbers. Finally we discuss an alternative approach to this new collection of words using two statistics on planted trees that turn out to be closely related to the Tutte polynomial on the Catalan matroid.
