Correlations for symplectic and orthogonal Schur measures
We show, using either Fock space techniques or Macdonald difference operators, that certain symplectic and orthogonal analogues of Okounkov's Schur measure are determinantal with kernels given by explicit double contour integrals. We give two applications: one equates certain Toeplitz+Hankel determinants of random matrix theory with appropriate Fredholm determinants and computes Szegő asymptotics for the former; another finds that the simplest examples of said measures exhibit discrete sine kernel asymptotics in the bulk and Airy 2 to 1 kernel---along with a certain dual---asymptotics at the edge. We believe the edge behavior to be universal.

An operator that relates to semi-meander polynomials via a two-sided q-Wick formula
Published in Indiana University Mathematics Journal 69 (2020), 2089-2127 • View PublicationBIB
We consider the sequence $( Q_n )_{n=1}^{\infty}$ of semi-meander polynomials which are used in the enumeration of semi-meandric systems (a family of diagrams related to the classical stamp-folding problem). We show that for a fixed natural number $d$, the sequence $( Q_n (d) )_{n=1}^{\infty}$ appears as sequence of moments for a compactly supported probability measure $ν_d$ on the real line. More generally, we consider a two-variable generalization $Q_n (t,u)$ of $Q_n(t)$, which is related to a natural concept of "self-intersecting meandric system"; the second variable of $Q_n (t,u)$ keeps track of the crossings of such a system (and one has, in particular, that $Q_n (t,0)$ is the original semi-meander polynomial $Q_n (t)$). We prove that for a fixed natural number $d$ and a fixed real number $q$ with $|q| < 1$, the sequence $( Q_n (d,q) )_{n=1}^{\infty}$ appears as sequence of moments for a compactly supported probability measure $ν_{d:q}$ on the real line. The measure $ν_{d;q}$ is found as scalar spectral measure for an operator $T_{d;q}$ constructed by using left and right creation/annihilation operators on a $q$-deformation of the full Fock space introduced by Bozejko and Speicher. The relevant calculations of moments for $T_{d;q}$ are made by using a two-sided version of a (previously studied in the one-sided case) $q$-Wick formula, which involves the number of crossings of a pair-partition.

The $\mathfrak{sl}_\infty$-crystal combinatorics of higher level Fock spaces
Published • View PublicationBIB
For integers $e,\ell\geq 2$, the level $\ell$ Fock space has an $\mathfrak{sl}_\infty$-crystal structure arising from the action of a Heisenberg algebra, intertwining the $\widehat{\mathfrak{sl}_e}$-crystal. The vertices of these crystals are charged $\ell$-partitions. We give the combinatorial rule for computing the arrows anywhere in the $\mathfrak{sl}_\infty$-crystal. This allows us to pinpoint the location of any charged $\ell$-partition. As an application, we compute the support of the spherical representation of a cyclotomic rational Cherednik algebra, and in particular, the set of parameters such that it is finite-dimensional. We also give an easy abacus characterization of all finite-dimensional representations of type $B$ Cherednik algebras.

On Hamiltonians for six-vertex models
Published • View PublicationBIB
In this paper, we explain a connection between a family of free-fermionic six-vertex models and a discrete time evolution operator on one-dimensional Fermionic Fock space. The family of ice models generalize those with domain wall boundary, and we focus on two sets of Boltzmann weights whose partition functions were previously shown to generalize a generating function identity of Tokuyama. We produce associated Hamiltonians that recover these Boltzmann weights, and furthermore calculate the partition functions using commutation relations and elementary combinatorics. We give an expression for these partition functions as determinants, akin to the Jacobi-Trudi identity for Schur polynomials.

Trace Identities for the Topological Vertex
Published in Selecta Math. 24 (2018) 1527-1548 • View PublicationBIB
The topological vertex is a universal series which can be regarded as an object in combinatorics, representation theory, geometry, or physics. It encodes the combinatorics of 3D partitions, the action of vertex operators on Fock space, the Donaldson-Thomas theory of toric Calabi-Yau threefolds, or the open string partition function of $\mathbb{C}^3$. We prove several identities in which a sum over terms involving the topological vertex is expressed as a closed formula, often a product of simple terms, closely related to Fourier expansions of Jacobi forms. We use purely combinatorial and representation theoretic methods to prove our formulas, but we discuss applications to the Donaldson-Thomas invariants of elliptically fibered Calabi-Yau threefolds at the end of the paper.

Triple crystal action in Fock spaces
Published • View PublicationBIB
We make explicit a triple crystal structure on higher level Fock spaces, by investigating at the combinatorial level the actions of two affine quantum groups and of a Heisenberg algebra. To this end, we first determine a new indexation of the basis elements that makes the two quantum group crystals commute. Then, we define a so-called Heisenberg crystal, commuting with the other two. This gives new information about the representation theory of cyclotomic rational Cherednik algebras, relying on some recent results of Shan and Vasserot and of Losev. In particular, we give an explicit labelling of their finite-dimensional simple modules.

Infinitesimal change of stable basis
Published in Selecta Mathematica 23 (2017), no. 3, 1909-1930 • View PublicationBIB
The purpose of this note is to study the Maulik-Okounkov $K-$theoretic stable basis for the Hilbert scheme of points on the plane, which depends on a "slope" $m \in \mathbb{R}$. When $m = \frac ab$ is rational, we study the change of stable matrix from slope $m-\varepsilon$ to $m+\varepsilon$ for small $\varepsilon>0$, and conjecture that it is related to the Leclerc-Thibon conjugation in the $q-$Fock space for $U_q\widehat{\mathfrak{gl}}_b$. This is part of a wide framework of connections involving derived categories of quantized Hilbert schemes, modules for rational Cherednik algebras and Hecke algebras at roots of unity.

Supports of simple modules in cyclotomic Cherednik categories O
The goal of this paper is to compute the supports of simple modules in the categories $\mathcal{O}$ for the rational Cherednik algebras associated to groups $G(\ell,1,n)$. For this we compute some combinatorial maps on the set of simples: wall-crossing bijections and a certain $\mathfrak{sl}_\infty$-crystal associated to a Heisenberg algebra action on a Fock space.

Random Partitions and the Quantum Benjamin-Ono Hierarchy
We derive exact and asymptotic results for random partitions from general results in the semi-classical analysis of coherent states applied to the classical periodic Benjamin-Ono equation at critical regularity $s= -1/2$. We find classical $dF_{\star |v} (c| \overline{\varepsilon})$ and quantum $d\hat{F}^{η_{NS}}( c | \hbar, \overline{\varepsilon})|_Ψ$ conserved densities for this system with dispersion coefficient $\overline{\varepsilon}$ extending Nazarov-Sklyanin (2013). For quantum stationary states, this conserved density is $dF_λ(c | \varepsilon_2, \varepsilon_1)$ the Rayleigh measure of the profile of a partition $λ$ of anisotropy $(\varepsilon_2, \varepsilon_1) \in \mathbb{C}^2$ for $\hbar = - \varepsilon_1 \varepsilon_2$, $\overline{\varepsilon}= \varepsilon_1 + \varepsilon_2$ invariant under $\varepsilon_2 \longleftrightarrow \varepsilon_1$. As Jack polynomials are the quantum stationary states and Stanley's Cauchy kernel (1989) is the reproducing kernel, the random values of the quantum periodic Benjamin-Ono hierarchy in a coherent state $Υ_v ( \cdot | \hbar)$ are a "Jack measure" on partitions, a dispersive generalization of Okounkov's Schur measures (1999). By our general results for coherent states, we have concentration on a limit shape as $\hbar \rightarrow 0$, the classical conserved density at $v$, and quantum fluctuations are an explicit Gaussian field. Our results follow from an enumerative asymptotic expansion in $\hbar$ and $\overline{\varepsilon}$ of joint cumulants over new combinatorial objects we call "ribbon paths". Our results reflect the fact that at fixed $\hbar>0$ the weight defining Fock space is already a fractional Brownian motion of variance $\hbar$ and Hurst index $(-s) - \tfrac{1}{2} \dim \mathbb{T} = + \tfrac{1}{2} - \tfrac{1}{2} = 0.$

Weighted Hurwitz numbers and hypergeometric $τ$-functions: an overview
Published in Proc. Symp. Pure Math. 93. 289-333 (2016) • Search Publication
This is an overview of recent results on the use of 2D Toda $τ$-functions as generating functions for multiparametric families of weighted Hurwitz numbers. The Bose-Fermi equivalence composed with the characteristic map provides an isomorphism between the zero charge sector of the Fermionic Fock space and the direct sum of the centers of the group algebra of the symmetric groups $S_n$. Specializing the fermionic formula to the case of diagonal group elements gives $τ$-functions of hypergeometric type, for which the expansion over products of Schur functions is diagonal, with coefficients of {\em content product} type. The corresponding abelian group action on the centre of the $S_n$ group algebra is determined by forming symmetric functions multiplicatively from a weight generating function $G(z)$ and evaluating on the Jucys-Murphy elements of the group algebra. The resulting central elements act diagonally on the basis of orthogonal idempotents and the eigenvalues $r^{G(z)}_λ$ are the {\em content product} coefficients appearing in the double Schur function expansion. Both the geometrical meaning of weighted Hurwitz numbers, as weighted sums over $n$-sheeted branched coverings, and the combinatorial one, as weighted enumeration of paths in the Cayley graph of $S_n$ generated by transpositions follow from expansion of the Cauchy-Littlewood generating functions over dual pairs of bases of the algebra of symmetric functions. The coefficients in the resulting $τ$-function expansion over products of power sum symmetric functions are the weighted Hurwitz numbers. Replacement of the Cauchy-Littlewood generating function by that for Macdonald polynomials provides $(q,t)$-deformations that yield generating functions for quantum weighted Hurwitz numbers.

2D Toda τ-functions as combinatorial generating functions
Published in Lett. Math. Phys. 105, 827-852 (2015) • View PublicationBIB
Two methods of constructing 2D Toda $τ$-functions that are generating functions for certain geometrical invariants of a combinatorial nature are related. The first involves generation of paths in the Cayley graph of the symmetric group $S_n$ by multiplication of the conjugacy class sums $C_λ\in C[S_n]$ in the group algebra by elements of an abelian group of central elements. Extending the characteristic map to the tensor product $C[S_n]\otimes C[S_n]$ leads to double expansions in terms of power sum symmetric functions, in which the coefficients count the number of such paths. Applying the same map to sums over the orthogonal idempotents leads to diagonal double Schur function expansions that are identified as $τ$-functions of hypergeometric type. The second method is the standard construction of $τ$-functions as vacuum state matrix elements of products of vertex operators in a fermionic Fock space with elements of the abelian group of convolution symmetries. A homomorphism between these two group actions is derived and shown to be intertwined by the characteristic map composed with fermionization. Applications include Okounkov's generating function for double Hurwitz numbers, which count branched coverings of the Riemann sphere with nonminimal branching at two points, and various analogous combinatorial counting functions.

Whittaker vector of deformed Virasoro algebra and Macdonald symmetric functions
Published • View PublicationBIB
We give a proof of Awata and Yamada's conjecture for the explicit formula of Whittaker vector of the deformed Virasoro algebra realized in the Fock space. The formula is expressed as a summation over Macdonald symmetric functions with factored coefficients. In the proof we fully use currents appearing in the Fock representation of Ding-Iohara-Miki quantum algebra. We also mention an interpretation of Whittaker vector in terms of the geometry of the Hilbert schemes of points on the affine plane.

Young walls and graded dimension formulas for finite quiver Hecke algebras of type $A^{(2)}_{2\ell}$ and $D^{(2)}_{\ell+1}$
Published • View PublicationBIB
We study graded dimension formulas for finite quiver Hecke algebras $R^{Λ_0}(β)$ of type $A^{(2)}_{2\ell}$ and $D^{(2)}_{\ell+1}$ using combinatorics of Young walls. We introduce the notion of standard tableaux for proper Young walls and show that the standard tableaux form a graded poset with lattice structure. We next investigate Laurent polynomials associated with proper Young walls and their standard tableaux arising from the Fock space representations consisting of proper Young walls. Then we prove the graded dimension formulas described in terms of the Laurent polynomials. When evaluating at $q=1$, the graded dimension formulas recover the dimension formulas for $R^{Λ_0}(β)$ described in terms of standard tableaux of strict partitions.
Schur function identities arising from the basic representation of $A^{(2)}_{2}$

A Lie theoretic interpretation is given for some formulas of Schur functions and Schur $Q$-functions. Two realizations of the basic representation of the Lie algebra $A^{(2)}_2$ are considered; one is on the fermionic Fock space and the other is on the bosonic polynomial space. Via the boson-fermion correspondence, simple relations of the vacuum expectation values of fermions turn out to be algebraic relations of Schur functions.

Representation type of finite quiver Hecke algebras of type $A^{(2)}_{2\ell}$
Published • View PublicationBIB
We study cyclotomic quiver Hecke algebras $R^{Λ_0}(β)$ in type $A^{(2)}_{2\ell}$, where $Λ_0$ is the fundamental weight. The algebras are natural $A^{(2)}_{2\ell}$-type analogue of Iwahori-Hecke algebras associated with the symmetric group, from the viewpoint of the Fock space theory developed by the first author and his collaborators. We give a formula for the dimension of the algebra, and a simple criterion to tell the representation type. The criterion is a natural generalization of Erdmann and Nakano's for the Iwahori-Hecke algebras. Except for the examples coming from cyclotomic Hecke algebras, no results of these kind existed for cyclotomic quiver Hecke algebras, and our results are the first instances beyond the case of cyclotomic Hecke algebras.

On a higher level extension of Leclerc-Thibon product theorem in q-deformed Fock spaces
Published • View PublicationBIB
The q-deformed Fock spaces of higher levels were introduced by Jimbo-Misra-Miwa-Okado. Uglov defined a canonical bases in q-deformed Fock spaces of higher levels. Leclerc-Thibon showed a product theorem in q-deformed Fock spaces of level one. The product theorem is regarded as a formal $q$-analogue of the tensor product theorem of level one. In this paper, we show a higher level analogue of Leclerc-Thibon product theorem under a suitable multi charge condition.

A combinatorial decomposition of higher level Fock spaces
We give a simple characterization of the highest weight vertices in the crystal graph of the level l Fock spaces. This characterization is based on the notion of totally periodic symbols viewed as affine analogues of reverse lattice words classically used in the decomposition of tensor products of fundamental $\mathfrak{sl}_{n}$-modules. This yields a combinatorial decomposition of the Fock spaces in their irreducible components and the branching law for the restriction of the irreducible highest weight $\mathfrak{sl}_{\infty}$-modules to $\hat{\mathfrak{sl}_{e}}$.

The $(q,t)$-Gaussian Process
We introduce a two-parameter deformation of the classical Bosonic, Fermionic, and Boltzmann Fock spaces that is a refinement of the $q$-Fock space of [BS91]. Starting with a real, separable Hilbert space $H$, we construct the $(q,t)$-Fock space and the corresponding creation and annihilation operators, $\{a_{q,t}(h)^\ast\}_{h\in H}$ and $\{a_{q,t}(h)\}_{h\in H}$, satifying the $(q,t)$-commutation relation $a_{q,t}(f)a_{q,t}(g)^\ast-q \,a_{q,t}(g)^\ast a_{q,t}(f)= <f,g>_{_H}\, t^{N},$ for $h,g\in H$, with $N$ denoting the number operator. Interpreting the bounded linear operators on the $(q,t)$-Fock space as non-commutative random variables, the analogue of the Gaussian random variable is given by the deformed field operator $s_{q,t}(h):=a_{q,t}(h)+a_{q,t}(h)^\ast$, for $h\in H$. The resulting refinement is particularly natural, as the moments of $s_{q,t}(h)$ are encoded by the joint statistics of crossings \emph{and nestings} in pair partitions. Furthermore, the orthogonal polynomial sequence associated with the normalized $(q,t)$-Gaussian $s_{q,t}$ is that of the $(q,t)$-Hermite orthogonal polynomials, a deformation of the $q$-Hermite sequence that is given by the recurrence $zH_n(z;q,t)=H_{n+1}(z;q,t)+[n]_{q,t}H_{n-1}(z;q,t),$ with $H_0(z;q,t)=1$, $H_1(z;q,t)=z$, and $[n]_{q,t}=\sum_{i=1}^n q^{i-1}t^{n-i}$. The $q=0<t$ specialization yields a new single-parameter deformation of the full Boltzmann Fock space of free probability. The probability measure associated with the corresponding deformed semicircular operator turns out to be encoded, in various forms, via the Rogers-Ramanujan continued fraction, the Rogers-Ramanujan identities, the $t$-Airy function, the $t$-Catalan numbers of Carlitz-Riordan, and the first-order statistics of the reduced Wigner process.

On the norm of the $q$-circular operator
The $q$-commutation relations, formulated in the setting of the $q$-Fock space of Bożjeko and Speicher, interpolate between the classical commutation relations (CCR) and the classical anti-commutation relations (CAR) defined on the classical bosonic and fermionic Fock spaces, respectively. Interpreting the $q$-Fock space as an algebra of "random variables" exhibiting a specific commutativity structure, one can construct the so-called $q$-semicircular and $q$-circular operators acting as $q$-deformations of the classical Gaussian and complex Gaussian random variables, respectively. While the $q$-semicircular operator is generally well understood, many basic properties of the $q$-circular operator (in particular, a tractable expression for its norm) remain elusive. Inspired by the combinatorial approach to free probability, we revist the combinatorial formulations of these operators. We point out that a finite alternating-sum expression for $2n$-norm of the $q$-semicircular is available via generating functions of chord-crossing diagrams developed by Touchard in the 1950s and distilled by Riordan in 1974. Extending these norms as a function in $q$ onto the complex unit ball and taking the $n\to\infty$ limit, we recover the familiar expression for the norm of the $q$-semicircular and show that the convergence is uniform on the compact subsets of the unit ball. In contrast, the $2n$-norms of the $q$-circular are encoded by chord-crossing diagrams that are parity-reversing, which have not yet been characterized in the combinatorial literature. We derive certain combinatorial properties of these objects, including closed-form expressions for the number of such diagrams of any size with up to eleven crossings. These properties enable us to conclude that the $2n$-norms of the $q$-circular operator are significantly less well behaved than those of the $q$-semicircular operator.
