The aim of this work is to study the dual and the algebraic dual of an evaluation code using standard monomials and indicator functions. We show that the dual of an evaluation code is the evaluation code of the algebraic dual. We develop an algorithm for computing a basis for the algebraic dual. Let $C_1$ and $C_2$ be linear codes spanned by standard monomials. We give a combinatorial condition for the monomial equivalence of $C_1$ and the dual $C_2^\perp$. Moreover, we give an explicit description of a generator matrix of $C_2^\perp$ in terms of that of $C_1$ and coefficients of indicator functions. For Reed--Muller-type codes we give a duality criterion in terms of the v-number and the Hilbert function of a vanishing ideal. As an application, we provide an explicit duality for Reed--Muller-type codes corresponding to Gorenstein ideals. In addition, when the evaluation code is monomial and the set of evaluation points is a degenerate affine space, we classify when the dual is a monomial code.
On Artinian Gorenstein algebras associated to the face posets of regular polyhedra
We introduce Artinian Gorenstein algebras defined by the face posets of regular polyhedra. We consider the strong Lefschetz property and Hodge--Riemann relation for the algebras. We show the strong Lefschetz property of the algebras for all Platonic solids. On the other hand, for some Platonic solids, we show that the algebras do not satisfy the Hodge--Riemann relation with respect to some strong Lefschetz elements.
Gorenstein Fano toric degenerations
We propose a refined but natural notion of toric degenerations that respect a given embedding and show that within this framework a Gorenstein Fano variety can only be degenerated to a Gorenstein Fano toric variety if it is embedded via its anticanonical embedding. This also gives a precise criterion for reflexive polytopes to appear, which might be required for applications in mirror symmetry. For the proof of this statement we will study polytopes whose polar dual is a lattice polytope. As a byproduct we generalize a connection between the number of lattice points in a rational convex polytope and the Euler characteristic of an associated torus invariant rational Weil divisor, allowing us to show that Ehrhart-Macdonald Reciprocity and Serre Duality are equivalent statements for a broad class of varieties. Additionally, we conjecture a necessary and sufficient condition for the Ehrhart quasi-polynomial of a rational convex polytope to be a polynomial. Finally, we show that the anticanonical line bundle on a Gorenstein Fano variety with at worst rational singularities is uniquely determined by a combinatorial condition of its Hilbert polynomial.

We prove that for every complex classical group $G$ the string polytope associated to a special reduced decomposition and any dominant integral weight $λ$ will be a lattice polytope if and only if the highest weight representation of the Lie algebra of $G$ with highest weight $λ$ integrates to a representation of $G$ itself. This affirms an earlier conjecture and shows that every partial flag variety of a complex classical group admits a flat projective degeneration to a Gorenstein Fano toric variety.
Symmetric and Pseudo-Symmetric Numerical Semigroups via Young Diagrams and Their Semigroup Rings
This paper studies Young diagrams of symmetric and pseudo-symmetric numerical semigroups and describes new operations on Young diagrams as well as numerical semigroups. These provide new decompositions of symmetric and pseudo-symmetric semigroups into an over semigroup and its dual. It is also given exactly for what kind of numerical semigroup $S$, the semigroup ring $\Bbbk[\![S]\!]$ has at least one Gorenstein subring and has at least one Kunz subring.

The first goal of the present paper is to study the class groups of the edge rings of complete multipartite graphs, denoted by $\Bbbk[K_{r_1,\ldots,r_n}]$, where $1 \leq r_1 \leq \cdots \leq r_n$. More concretely, we prove that the class group of $\Bbbk[K_{r_1,\ldots,r_n}]$ is isomorphic to $\mathbb{Z}^n$ if $n =3$ with $r_1 \geq 2$ or $n \geq 4$, while it turns out that the excluded cases can be deduced into Hibi rings. The second goal is to investigate the special class of divisorial ideals of $\Bbbk[K_{r_1,\ldots,r_n}]$, called conic divisorial ideals. We describe conic divisorial ideals for certain $K_{r_1,\ldots,r_n}$ including all cases where $\Bbbk[K_{r_1,\ldots,r_n}]$ is Gorenstein. Finally, we give a non-commutative crepant resolution (NCCR) of $\Bbbk[K_{r_1,\ldots,r_n}]$ in the case where it is Gorenstein.
Seminormality, canonical modules, and regularity of cut polytopes

Motivated by a conjecture of Sturmfels and Sullivant we study normal cut polytopes. After a brief survey of known results for normal cut polytopes it is in particular observed that for simplicial and simple cut polytopes their cut algebras are normal and hence Cohen--Macaulay. Moreover, seminormality is considered. It is shown that the cut algebra of $K_5$ is not seminormal which implies again the known fact that it is not normal. For normal Gorenstein cut algebras and other cases of interest we determine their canonical modules. The Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of a cut algebra is computed for various types of graphs and bounds for it are provided if normality is assumed. As an application we classify all graphs for which the cut algebra has regularity less than or equal to 4.
Algebraic Properties of Clique Complexes of Line Graphs
Let $H$ be a simple undirected graph and $G=\mathrm{L}(H)$ be its line graph. Assume that $Δ(G)$ denotes the clique complex of $G$. We show that $Δ(G)$ is sequentially Cohen-Macaulay if and only if it is shellable if and only if it is vertex decomposable. Moreover if $Δ(G)$ is pure, we prove that these conditions are also equivalent to being strongly connected. Furthermore, we state a complete characterizations of those $H$ for which $Δ(G)$ is Cohen-Macaulay, sequentially Cohen-Macaulay or Gorenstein. We use these characterizations to present linear time algorithms which take a graph $G$, check whether $G$ is a line graph and if yes, decide if $Δ(G)$ is Cohen-Macaulay or sequentially Cohen-Macaulay or Gorenstein.

Let $P$ be a finite poset, $K$ a field, and $O(P)$ (resp. $C(P)$) the order (resp. chain) polytope of $P$. We study the non-Gorenstein locus of $E_K[O(P)]$ (resp. $E_K[C(P)]$), the Ehrhart ring of $O(P)$ (resp. $C(P)$) over $K$, which are each normal toric rings associated $P$. In particular, we show that the dimension of non-Gorenstein loci of $E_K[O(P)]$ and $E_K[C(P)]$ are the same. Further, we show that $E_K[C(P)]$ is nearly Gorenstein if and only if $P$ is the disjoint union of pure posets $P_1, \ldots, P_s$ with $|\mathrm{rank} P_i-\mathrm{rank} P_j|\leq 1$ for any $i$ and $j$.

Let P be a simple thin polyomino, roughly speaking a polyomino that has no holes and does not contain a square tetromino as a subpolyomino. In this paper, we determine the reduced Hilbert series $h(t)/(1-t)^d$ of K[P] by proving that $h(t)$ is the rook polynomial of P. As an application, we characterize the Gorenstein simple thin polyominoes.

We extend our $\imath$Hall algebra construction from acyclic to arbitrary $\imath$quivers, where the $\imath$quiver algebras are infinite-dimensional 1-Gorenstein in general. Then we establish an injective homomorphism from the universal $\imath$quantum group of Kac-Moody type arising from quantum symmetric pairs to the $\imath$Hall algebra associated to a virtually acyclic $\imath$quiver.

Let us consider a truncated matroid $M_Γ^{r}$ of rank $r$ of a graphic matroid of a graph $Γ$. The basis for $M_Γ^{r}$ is the set of the forests with $r$ edges in $Γ$. We consider this basis generating function and compute its Hessian. In this paper, we show that the Hessian of the basis generating function of the truncated matroid of the graphic matroid of the complete or complete bipartite graph does not vanish by calculating the eigenvalues of the Hessian matrix. Moreover, we show that the Hessian matrix of the basis generating function of the truncated matroid of the graphic matroid of the complete or complete bipartite graph has exactly one positive eigenvalue. As an application, we show the strong Lefschetz property for the Artinian Gorenstein algebra associated to the truncated matroid.
On algebraic properties of matroid polytopes
A toric variety is constructed from a lattice polytope. It is common in algebraic combinatorics to carry this way a notion of an algebraic property from the variety to the polytope. From the combinatorial point of view, one of the most interesting constructions of toric varieties comes from the base polytope of a matroid. Matroid base polytopes and independence polytopes are Cohen--Macaulay. We study two natural stronger algebraic properties -- Gorenstein and smooth. We provide a full classifications of matroids whose independence polytope or base polytope is smooth or Gorenstein. The latter answers to a question raised by Herzog and Hibi.

In this paper, we give a criterion of the Gorenstein property of the Ehrhart ring of the stable set polytope of an h-perfect graph: the Ehrhart ring of the stable set polytope of an h-perfect graph $G$ is Gorenstein if and only if (1) sizes of maximal cliques are constant (say $n$) and (2) (a) $n=1$, (b) $n=2$ and there is no odd cycle without chord and length at least 7 or (c) $n\geq 3$ and there is no odd cycle without chord and length at least 5.

We study rational generating functions of sequences $\{a_n\}_{n\geq 0}$ that agree with a polynomial and investigate symmetric decompositions of the numerator polynomial for subsequences $\{a_{rn}\}_{n\geq 0}$. We prove that if the numerator polynomial for $\{a_n\}_{n\geq 0}$ is of degree $s$ and its coefficients satisfy a set of natural linear inequalities then the symmetric decomposition of the numerator for $\{a_{rn}\}_{n\geq 0}$ is real-rooted whenever $r\geq \max \{s,d+1-s\}$. Moreover, if the numerator polynomial for $\{a_n\}_{n\geq 0}$ is symmetric then we show that the symmetric decomposition for $\{a_{rn}\}_{n\geq 0}$ is interlacing. We apply our results to Ehrhart series of lattice polytopes. In particular, we obtain that the $h^\ast$-polynomial of every dilation of a $d$-dimensional lattice polytope of degree $s$ has a real-rooted symmetric decomposition whenever the dilation factor $r$ satisfies $r\geq \max \{s,d+1-s\}$. Moreover, if the polytope is Gorenstein then this decomposition is interlacing.

Let $G$ be a semisimple algebraic group over $\mathbb{C}$. For a reduced word $\bf i$ of the longest element in the Weyl group of $G$ and a dominant integral weight $λ$, one can construct the string polytope $Δ_{\bf i}(λ)$, whose lattice points encode the character of the irreducible representation $V_λ$. The string polytope $Δ_{\bf i}(λ)$ is singular in general and combinatorics of string polytopes heavily depends on the choice of $\mathbf i$. In this paper, we study combinatorics of string polytopes when $G = SL_{n+1}(\mathbb{C})$, and present a sufficient condition on $\mathbf i$ such that the toric variety $X_{Δ_{\mathbf i}(λ)}$ of the string polytope $Δ_{\mathbf i}(λ)$ has a small toric resolution. Indeed, when $\mathbf i$ has small indices and $λ$ is regular, we explicitly construct a small toric resolution of the toric variety $X_{Δ_{\bf i}(λ)}$ using a Bott manifold. Our main theorem implies that a toric variety of any string polytope admits a small toric resolution when $n < 4$. As a byproduct, we show that if $\mathbf i$ has small indices then $Δ_{\mathbf i}(λ)$ is integral for any dominant integral weight $λ$, which in particular implies that the anticanonical limit toric variety $X_{Δ_{\bf i}(λ_P)}$ of a partial flag variety $G/P$ is Gorenstein Fano. Furthermore, we apply our result to symplectic topology of the full flag manifold $G/B$ and obtain a formula of the disk potential of the Lagrangian torus fibration on $G/B$ obtained from a flat toric degeneration of $G/B$ to the toric variety $X_{Δ_{\bf i}(λ)}$.

Let $α=α(G)$ be the independence number of a simple graph $G$ with $n$ vertices and $I(G)$ be its edge ideal in $S=K[x_1,\ldots, x_n]$. If $S/I(G)$ is Gorenstein, the graph $G$ is called Gorenstein over $K$ and if $G$ is Gorenstein over every field, then we simply say that $G$ is Gorenstein. In this article, first we state a condition equivalent to $G$ being Gorenstein and using this we give a characterization of Gorenstein graphs with $α=2$. Then we present some properties of Gorenstein graphs with $α=3$ and as an application of these results we characterize triangle-free Gorenstein graphs with $α=3$.

We study the coordinate ring of an $L$-convex polyomino, determine its regularity in terms of the maximal number of rooks that can be placed in the polyomino. We also characterize the Gorenstein $L$-convex polyominoes and those which are Gorenstein on the punctured spectrum, and compute the Cohen--Macaulay type of any $L$-convex polyomino in terms of the maximal rectangles covering it.
