A new q-binomial theorem for Macdonald polynomials is employed to prove an A_n analogue of the celebrated Selberg integral. This confirms the g=A_n case of a conjecture by Mukhin and Varchenko concerning the existence of a Selberg integral for every simple Lie algebra g.

Demazure characters of type A, which are equivalent to key polynomials, have been decomposed by Lascoux and Schützenberger into standard bases. We prove that the resulting polynomials, which we call Demazure atoms, can be obtained from a certain specialization of nonsymmetric Macdonald polynomials. This combinatorial interpretation for Demazure atoms accelerates the computation of the right key associated to a semi-standard Young tableau. Utilizing a related construction, we provide a new combinatorial description for the key polynomials.

It is shown that the deformed Macdonald-Ruijsenaars operators can be described as the restrictions on certain affine subvarieties of the usual Macdonald-Ruijsenaars operator in infinite number of variables. The ideals of these varieties are shown to be generated by the Macdonald polynomials related to Young diagrams with special geometry. The super Macdonald polynomials and their shifted version are introduced, the combinatorial formulas for them are given.
Macdonald Polynomials and Multivariable Basic Hypergeometric Series

We study Macdonald polynomials from a basic hypergeometric series point of view. In particular, we show that the Pieri formula for Macdonald polynomials and its recently discovered inverse, a recursion formula for Macdonald polynomials, both represent multivariable extensions of the terminating very-well-poised 6-phi-5 summation formula. We derive several new related identities including multivariate extensions of Jackson's very-well-poised 8-phi-7 summation. Motivated by our basic hypergeometric analysis, we propose an extension of Macdonald polynomials to Macdonald symmetric functions indexed by partitions with complex parts. These appear to possess nice properties.

We give a combinatorial formula for the non-symmetric Macdonald polynomials E_μ(x;q,t). The formula generalizes our previous combinatorial interpretation of the integral form symmetric Macdonald polynomials J_μ(x;q,t). We prove the new formula by verifying that it satisfies a recurrence, due to Knop, that characterizes the non-symmetric Macdonald polynomials.

The n-point correlation functions introduced by Bloch and Okounkov have already found several geometric connections and algebraic generalizations. In this Note we formulate a q,t-deformation of this n-point function. The key operator used in our formulation arises from the theory of Macdonald polynomials and affords a vertex operator interpretation. We obtain closed formulas for the n-point functions when n =1,2 in terms of the basic hypergeometric functions. We further generalize the q,t-deformed n-point function to more general vertex operators.
Bisymmetric functions, Macdonald polynomials and sl_3 basic hypergeometric series

A new type of sl_3 basic hypergeometric series based on Macdonald polynomials is introduced. Besides a pair of Macdonald polynomials attached to two different sets of variables, a key-ingredient in the sl_3 basic hypergeometric series is a bisymmetric function related to Macdonald's commuting family of q-difference operators, to the sl_3 Selberg integrals of Tarasov and Varchenko, and to alternating sign matrices. Our main result for sl_3 series is a multivariable generalization of the celebrated q-binomial theorem. In the limit this q-binomial sum yields a new sl_3 Selberg integral for Jack polynomials.

We attempt to explain the ubiquity of tableaux and of Pieri and Cauchy formulae for combinatorially defined families of symmetric functions. We show that such formulae are to be expected from symmetric functions arising from representations of Heisenberg algebras. The resulting framework that we describe is a generalization of the classical Boson-Fermion correspondence, from which Schur functions arise. Our work can be used to understand Hall-Littlewood polynomials, Macdonald polynomials and Lascoux, Leclerc and Thibon's ribbon functions, together with other new families of symmetric functions.

A multivariable hypergeometric-type formula for raising operators of the Macdonald polynomials is conjectured. It is proved that this agrees with Jing and Jozefiak's expression for the two-row Macdonald polynomials, and also with Lassalle and Schlosser's formula for partitions with length three.

We prove a combinatorial formula for the Macdonald polynomial H_mu(x;q,t) which had been conjectured by the first author. Corollaries to our main theorem include the expansion of H_mu(x;q,t) in terms of LLT polynomials, a new proof of the charge formula of Lascoux and Schutzenberger for Hall-Littlewood polynomials, a new proof of Knop and Sahi's combinatorial formula for Jack polynomials as well as a lifting of their formula to integral form Macdonald polynomials, and a new combinatorial rule for the Kostka-Macdonald coefficients K_{lambda,mu}(q,t) in the case that mu is a partition with parts less than or equal to 2.

In the open problem session of the FPSAC'03, R.P.Stanley gave an open problem. The purpose of this paper is to give a proof of this open problem. At the end of this paper we present certain corollaries involving the Big Schur functions and some polynomials arising from the Macdonald polynomials, which generalize Stanley's open problem.

We consider the coincident root loci consisting of the polynomials with at least two double roots andpresent a linear basis of the corresponding ideal in the algebra of symmetric polynomials in terms of the Jack polynomials with special value of parameter $α= -2.$ As a corollary we present an explicit formula for the Hilbert-Poincarè series of this ideal and the generator of the minimal degree as a special Jack polynomial.
A generalization to the case of the symmetric polynomials vanishing on the double shifted diagonals and the Macdonald polynomials specialized at $t^2 q = 1$ is also presented. We also give similar results for the interpolation Jack polynomials.
Tableaux on k+1-cores, reduced words for affine permutations, and k-Schur expansions

The $k$-Young lattice $Y^k$ is a partial order on partitions with no part larger than $k$. This weak subposet of the Young lattice originated from the study of the $k$-Schur functions(atoms) $s_λ^{(k)}$, symmetric functions that form a natural basis of the space spanned by homogeneous functions indexed by $k$-bounded partitions. The chains in the $k$-Young lattice are induced by a Pieri-type rule experimentally satisfied by the $k$-Schur functions. Here, using a natural bijection between $k$-bounded partitions and $k+1$-cores, we establish an algorithm for identifying chains in the $k$-Young lattice with certain tableaux on $k+1$ cores. This algorithm reveals that the $k$-Young lattice is isomorphic to the weak order on the quotient of the affine symmetric group $\tilde S_{k+1}$ by a maximal parabolic subgroup. From this, the conjectured $k$-Pieri rule implies that the $k$-Kostka matrix connecting the homogeneous basis $\{h_\la\}_{\la\in\CY^k}$ to $\{s_\la^{(k)}\}_{\la\in\CY^k}$ may now be obtained by counting appropriate classes of tableaux on $k+1$-cores. This suggests that the conjecturally positive $k$-Schur expansion coefficients for Macdonald polynomials (reducing to $q,t$-Kostka polynomials for large $k$) could be described by a $q,t$-statistic on these tableaux, or equivalently on reduced words for affine permutations.

A characterization of the space of symmetric Laurent polynomials of type $(BC)_n$ which vanish on a certain set of submanifolds is given by using the Koornwinder-Macdonald polynomials. A similar characterization was given previously for symmetric polynomials of type $A_n$ by using the Macdonald polynomials. We use a new method which exploits the duality relation. The method simplifies a part of the proof in the $A_n$ case.
A Combinatorial Formula for the Character of the Diagonal Coinvariants

Let R_n be the ring of coinvariants for the diagonal action of the symmetric group S_n. It is known that the character of R_n as a doubly-graded S_n module can be expressed using the Frobenius characteristic map as \nabla e_n, where e_n is the n-th elementary symmetric function, and \nabla is an operator from the theory of Macdonald polynomials.
We conjecture a combinatorial formula for \nabla e_n and prove that it has many desirable properties which support our conjecture. In particular, we prove that our formula is a symmetric function (which is not obvious) and that it is Schur positive. These results make use of the theory of ribbon tableau generating functions of Lascoux, Leclerc and Thibon. We also show that a variety of earlier conjectures and theorems on \nabla e_n are special cases of our conjecture.
Finally, we extend our conjectures on \nabla e_n and several of the results supporting them to higher powers \nabla^m e_n.
