Classical Gončarov polynomials arose in numerical analysis as a basis for the solutions of the Gončarov interpolation problem. These polynomials provide a natural algebraic tool in the enumerative theory of parking functions. By replacing the differentiation operator with a delta operator and using the theory of finite operator calculus, Lorentz, Tringali and Yan introduced the sequence of generalized Gončarov polynomials associated to a pair $(Δ, Z)$ of a delta operator $Δ$ and an interpolation grid $Z$. Generalized Gončarov polynomials share many nice algebraic properties and have a connection with the theories of binomial enumeration and order statistics. In this paper we give a complete combinatorial interpretation for any sequence of generalized Gončarov polynomials. First, we show that they can be realized as weight enumerators in partition lattices. Then, we give a more concrete realization in exponential families and show that these polynomials enumerate various enriched structures of vector parking functions.
On Rado conditions for nonlinear Diophantine equations

Building on previous work of Di Nasso and Luperi Baglini, we provide general necessary conditions for a Diophantine equation to be partition regular. These conditions are inspired by Rado's characterization of partition regular linear homogeneous equations. We conjecture that these conditions are also sufficient for partition regularity, at least for equations whose corresponding monovariate polynomial is linear. This would provide a natural generalization of Rado's theorem.
We verify that such a conjecture hold for the equations $x^{2}-xy+ax+by+cz=0$ and $x^{2}-y^{2}+ax+by+cz=0$ for $a,b,c\in \mathbb{Z}$ such that $abc=0$ or $% a+b+c=0$. To deal with these equations, we establish new results concerning the partition regularity of polynomial configurations in $\mathbb{Z}$ such as $\left\{ x,x+y,xy+x+y\right\} $, building on the recent result on the partition regularity of $\left\{ x,x+y,xy\right\} $.
A Note on M-convex Functions on Jump Systems

A jump system is defined as a set of integer points (vectors) with a certain exchange property, generalizing the concepts of matroids, delta-matroids, and base polyhedra of integral polymatroids (or submodular systems). A discrete convexity concept is defined for functions on constant-parity jump systems and it has been used in graph theory and algebra. In this paper we call it "jump M-convexity" and extend it to "jump M-natural-convexity" for functions defined on a larger class of jump systems. By definition, every jump M-convex function is a jump M-natural-convex function, and we show the equivalence of these concepts by establishing an (injective) embedding of jump M-natural-convex functions in n variables into the set of jump M-convex functions in n+1 variables. Using this equivalence we show further that jump M-natural-convex functions admit a number of natural operations such as aggregation, projection (partial minimization), convolution, composition, and transformation by a network.

Graph-bootstrap percolation, also known as weak saturation, was introduced by Bollobás in 1968. In this process, we start with initial "infected" set of edges $E_0$, and we infect new edges according to a predetermined rule. Given a graph $H$ and a set of previously infected edges $E_t\subseteq E(K_n)$, we infect a non-infected edge $e$ if it completes a new copy of $H$ in $G=([n],E_t\cup e)$. A question raised by Bollobás asks for the maximum time the process can run before it stabilizes. Bollobás, Przykucki, Riordan, and Sahasrabudhe considered this problem for the most natural case where $H=K_r$. They answered the question for $r\leq 4$ and gave a non-trivial lower bound for every $r\geq 5$. They also conjectured that the maximal running time is $o(n^2)$ for every integer $r$. In this paper we disprove their conjecture for every $r\geq 6$ and we give a better lower bound for the case $r=5$; in the proof we use the Behrend construction.
Smoothed Analysis of Order Types
Consider an ordered point set $P = (p_1,\ldots,p_n)$, its order type (denoted by $χ_P$) is a map which assigns to every triple of points a value in $\{+,-,0\}$ based on whether the points are collinear(0), oriented clockwise(-) or counter-clockwise(+). An abstract order type is a map $χ: \left[\substack{n\\3}\right] \rightarrow \{+,-,0\}$ (where $\left[\substack{n\\3}\right]$ is the collection of all triples of a set of $n$ elements) that satisfies the following condition: for every set of five elements $S\subset [n]$ its induced order type $χ_{|S}$ is realizable by a point set. To be precise, a point set $P$ realizes an order type $χ$,if $χ_P(p_i,p_j,p_k) = χ(i,j,k)$, for all $i<j<k$. Planar point sets are among the most basic and natural geometric objects of study in Discrete and Computational Geometry. Properties of point sets are relevant in theory and practice alike. It is known, that deciding if an abstract order type is realizable is complete for the existential theory of the reals. Our results show that order type realizability is much easier for realistic instances than in the worst case. In particular, we can recognize instances in "expected \NP-time". This is one of the first $\exists\mathbb{R}$-complete problems analyzed under the lens of Smoothed Analysis.
Betti numbers of symmetric shifted ideals

We introduce a new class of monomial ideals which we call symmetric shifted ideals. Symmetric shifted ideals are fixed by the natural action of the symmetric group and, within the class of monomial ideals fixed by this action, they can be considered as an analogue of stable monomial ideals within the class of monomial ideals. We show that a symmetric shifted ideal has linear quotients and compute its (equivariant) graded Betti numbers. As an application of this result, we obtain several consequences for graded Betti numbers of symbolic powers of defining ideals of star configurations.
Open problems in the spectral theory of signed graphs

Signed graphs are graphs whose edges get a sign $+1$ or $-1$ (the signature). Signed graphs can be studied by means of graph matrices extended to signed graphs in a natural way. Recently, the spectra of signed graphs have attracted much attention from graph spectra specialists. One motivation is that the spectral theory of signed graphs elegantly generalizes the spectral theories of unsigned graphs. On the other hand, unsigned graphs do not disappear completely, since their role can be taken by the special case of balanced signed graphs.
Therefore, spectral problems defined and studied for unsigned graphs can be considered in terms of signed graphs, and sometimes such generalization shows nice properties which cannot be appreciated in terms of (unsigned) graphs. Here, we survey some general results on the adjacency spectra of signed graphs, and we consider some spectral problems which are inspired from the spectral theory of (unsigned) graphs.
Identifiability of Graphs with Small Color Classes by the Weisfeiler-Leman Algorithm
As it is well known, the isomorphism problem for vertex-colored graphs with color multiplicity at most 3 is solvable by the classical 2-dimensional Weisfeiler-Leman algorithm (2-WL). On the other hand, the prominent Cai-Fürer-Immerman construction shows that even the multidimensional version of the algorithm does not suffice for graphs with color multiplicity 4. We give an efficient decision procedure that, given a graph $G$ of color multiplicity 4, recognizes whether or not $G$ is identifiable by 2-WL, that is, whether or not 2-WL distinguishes $G$ from any non-isomorphic graph. In fact, we solve the much more general problem of recognizing whether or not a given coherent configuration of maximum fiber size 4 is separable. This extends our recognition algorithm to graphs of color multiplicity 4 with directed and colored edges.
Our decision procedure is based on an explicit description of the class of graphs with color multiplicity 4 that are not identifiable by 2-WL. The Cai-Fürer-Immerman graphs of color multiplicity 4 distinctly appear here as a natural subclass, which demonstrates that the Cai-Fürer-Immerman construction is not ad hoc. Our classification reveals also other types of graphs that are hard for 2-WL. One of them arises from patterns known as $(n_3)$-configurations in incidence geometry.
The number of rooted forests in circulant graphs

In this paper, we develop a new method to produce explicit formulas for the number $f_{G}(n)$ of rooted spanning forests in the circulant graphs $ G=C_{n}(s_1,s_2,\ldots,s_k)$ and $ G=C_{2n}(s_1,s_2,\ldots,s_k,n).$ These formulas are expressed through Chebyshev polynomials. We prove that in both cases the number of rooted spanning forests can be represented in the form $f_{G}(n)=p\,a(n)^2,$ where $a(n)$ is an integer sequence and $p$ is a prescribed natural number depending on the parity of $n$. Finally, we find an asymptotic formula for $f_{G}(n)$ through the Mahler measure of the associated Laurent polynomial $P(z)=2k+1-\sum\limits_{i=1}^k(z^{s_i}+z^{-s_i}).$
Voting Rules that are Unbiased but not Transitive-Symmetric

We explore the relation between two natural symmetry properties of voting rules. The first is transitive-symmetry -- the property of invariance to a transitive permutation group -- while the second is the "unbiased" property of every voter having the same influence for all i.i.d. probability measures. We show that these properties are distinct by two constructions -- one probabilistic, one explicit -- of rules that are unbiased but not transitive-symmetric.
Elementary Proof of a Theorem of Hawkes, Isaacs and Özaydin
We present an elementary proof of the theorem of Hawkes, Isaacs and Özaydin, which states that $Σ\,μ_{G}(H,K)\equiv 0$ mod $d$, where $μ_{G}$ denotes the Möbius function for the subgroup lattice of a finite group $G$, $H$ ranges over the conjugates of a given subgroup $F$ of $G$ with $[G:F]$ divisible by $d$, and $K$ over the supergroups of the $H$ for which $[K:H]$ divides $d$. We apply the theorem to obtain a result on the number of solutions of $|\langle H,g\rangle|\mid n$, for said $H$ and a natural number $n$.
The present version of the article includes an additional result on a quantity studied by K.S. Brown.
Binary expression of ancestors in the Collatz graph
The Collatz graph is a directed graph with natural number nodes and where there is an edge from node $x$ to node $T(x)=T_0(x)=x/2$ if $x$ is even, or to node $T(x)=T_1(x)=\frac{3x+1}{2}$ if $x$ is odd. Studying the Collatz graph in binary reveals complex message passing behaviors based on carry propagation which seem to capture the essential dynamics and complexity of the Collatz process. We study the set $\mathcal{E} \text{Pred}_k(x)$ that contains the binary expression of any ancestor $y$ that reaches $x$ with a limited budget of $k$ applications of $T_1$. The set $\mathcal{E} \text{Pred}_k(x)$ is known to be regular, Shallit and Wilson [EATCS 1992].
In this paper, we find that the geometry of the Collatz graph naturally leads to the construction of a regular expression, $\texttt{reg}_k(x)$, which defines $\mathcal{E} \text{Pred}_k(x)$. Our construction, is exponential in $k$ which improves upon the doubly exponentially construction of Shallit and Wilson. Furthermore, our result generalises Colussi's work on the $x = 1$ case [TCS 2011] to any natural number $x$, and gives mathematical and algorithmic tools for further exploration of the Collatz graph in binary.

In this paper, first steps are taken towards characterising lattices of cyclic flats $\mathcal{Z}(M)$ that belong to matroids $M$ that can be represented over a prescribed finite field $\mathbb{F}_q$. Two natural maps from $\mathcal{Z}(M)$ to the lattice of cyclic flats of a minor of $M$ are given. Binary matroids are characterised via their lattice of cyclic flats. It is shown that the lattice of cyclic flats of a simple binary matroid without isthmuses is atomic.

In this paper we present a new formula for the number of unrestricted partitions of $n$. We do this by introducing a correspondence between the number of unrestrited partitions of $n$ and the number of non-negative solutions of systems of two equations, involving natural numbers in the interval (1 $,n^{2}$).
Enhancing the connections between patterns in permutations and forbidden configurations in restricted elections

We investigate the connections between patterns in permutations and forbidden configurations in restricted elections, first discovered by Lackner and Lackner, in order to enhance the approach initiated by the two mentioned authors. More specifically, our achievements are essentially two. First, we define a new type of domain restriction, called enriched group-separable. Enriched group-separable elections are a subset of group-separable elections, which describe a special, still natural, situation that can arise in the context of group-separability. The exact enumeration of group-separable elections has been very recently determined by Karpov. Here we give a recursive characterization for enriched group-separable elections, from which we are able to find a recurrence relation and a closed formula expressing their number. Our second achievement is a generalization of a result of Lackner and Lackner, concerning the connection between permutation patterns and forbidden configurations with 3 voters. Our result relates forbidden configurations with the strong order on pairs of permutations, a notion which is still largely undeveloped, and suggests a potential approach for the determination of upper bounds for restricted elections whose forbidden configurations contains at least one configuration with 3 voters.
Biembeddings of cycle systems using integer Heffter arrays

In this paper we will show the existence of a face $2$-colourable biembedding of the complete graph onto an orientable surface where each face is a cycle of a fixed length $k$, for infinitely many values of $k$. In particular, under certain conditions, we show that there exists at least $(n-2)[(p-2)!]^2/(e^2 kn)$ non-isomorphic face $2$-colourable biembeddings of $K_{2nk+1}$ in which all faces are cycles of length $k=4p+3$. These conditions are: $n\equiv 1\mod 4$, $k\equiv 3\mod 4$ and either $n$ is prime or $n\gg k$ and $n\equiv 0\mod 3$ implies $p\equiv 1\mod 3$. To achieve this result we begin by verifying the existence of $(n-2)[(p-2)!/e]^2$ non-equivalent Heffter arrays, $H(n;k)$, which satisfy the conditions: (1) for each row and each column the sequential partial sums determined by the natural ordering must be distinct modulo $2nk+1$; (2) the composition of the natural orderings of the rows and columns is equivalent to a single cycle permutation on the entries in the array. The existence of Heffter arrays $H(n;k)$ that satisfy condition (1) was established earlier in \cite{BCDY} and in this current paper we vary this construction and show that there are at least $(n-2)[(p-2)!/e]^2$ such non-equivalent $H(n;k)$ that satisfy condition (1) and then show that each of these Heffter arrays also satisfy condition (2) under certain conditions.
A sheaf-theoretic approach to tropical homology

We introduce a sheaf-theoretic approach to tropical homology, especially for tropical homology with potentially non-compact supports. Our setup is suited to study the functorial properties of tropical homology, and we show that it behaves analogously to classical Borel-Moore homology in the sense that there are proper push-forwards, cross products, and cup products with tropical cohomology classes, and that it satisfies identities like the projection formula and the Künneth theorem. Our framework allows for a natural definition of the tropical cycle class map, which we show to be a natural transformation. Finally, we prove Poincaré-Verdier duality over the integers on tropical manifolds.
Edge-ordered Ramsey numbers

We introduce and study a variant of Ramsey numbers for edge-ordered graphs, that is, graphs with linearly ordered sets of edges. The edge-ordered Ramsey number $\overline{R}_e(\mathfrak{G})$ of an edge-ordered graph $\mathfrak{G}$ is the minimum positive integer $N$ such that there exists an edge-ordered complete graph $\mathfrak{K}_N$ on $N$ vertices such that every 2-coloring of the edges of $\mathfrak{K}_N$ contains a monochromatic copy of $\mathfrak{G}$ as an edge-ordered subgraph of $\mathfrak{K}_N$.
We prove that the edge-ordered Ramsey number $\overline{R}_e(\mathfrak{G})$ is finite for every edge-ordered graph $\mathfrak{G}$ and we obtain better estimates for special classes of edge-ordered graphs. In particular, we prove $\overline{R}_e(\mathfrak{G}) \leq 2^{O(n^3\log{n})}$ for every bipartite edge-ordered graph $\mathfrak{G}$ on $n$ vertices. We also introduce a natural class of edge-orderings, called lexicographic edge-orderings, for which we can prove much better upper bounds on the corresponding edge-ordered Ramsey numbers.

We study asymptotics of random shifted Young diagrams which correspond to a given sequence of reducible projective representations of the symmetric groups. We show limit results (Law of Large Numbers and Central Limit Theorem) for their shapes, provided that the representation character ratios and their cumulants converge to zero at some prescribed speed. Our class of examples includes uniformly random shifted standard tableaux with prescribed shape as well as shifted tableaux generated by some natural combinatorial algorithms (such as shifted Robinson-Schensted-Knuth correspondence) applied to a random input.

We consider double determinantal varieties, a special case of Nakajima quiver varieties. Li conjectured that double determinantal varieties are normal, irreducible, Cohen-Macaulay varieties whose defining ideals have a Gröbner basis given by their natural generators. We use liaison theory to prove this conjecture in a manner that generalizes results for mixed ladder determinantal varieties. We also give a formula for the dimension of a double determinantal variety.
