Characters of level $1$ standard modules of $C_n^{(1)}$ as generating functions for generalised partitions
We give a new simple formula for the energy function of a level $1$ perfect crystal of type $C_n^{(1)}$ introduced by Kang, Kashiwara and Misra. We use this to give several expressions for the characters of level $1$ standard modules as generating functions for different types of partitions. We then relate one of these formulas to the difference conditions in the conjectural partition identity of Capparelli, Meurman, Primc and Primc, and prove that their conjecture is true for all level $1$ standard modules. Finally, we propose a non-specialised generalisation of their conjecture.

Let $G$ be a graph of order $n$. The maximum and minimum degree of $G$ are denoted by $Δ$ and $δ$ respectively.
The \emph{path partition number} $μ(G)$ of a graph $G$ is the minimum number of paths needed to partition the vertices of $G$. Magnant, Wang and Yuan conjectured that $μ(G)\leq \max \left \{ \frac{n}{δ+1}, \frac{\left( Δ-δ\right) n}{\left( Δ+δ\right) }\right \} .$ In this work, we give a positive answer to this conjecture, for $ Δ\geq 2 δ$.\medskip \end{abstract}

Fix natural numbers $n \geq 1$, $t \geq 2$ and a primitive $t^{\text{th}}$ root of unity $ω$. In previous work with A. Ayyer (J. Alg., 2022), we studied the factorization of specialized irreducible characters of $\text{GL}_{tn}$, $\text{SO}_{2tn+1},$ $\text{Sp}_{2tn}$ and $\text{O}_{2tn}$ evaluated at elements to $ω^j x_i$ for $0 \leq j \leq t-1$ and $1 \leq i \leq n$. In this work, we extend the results to the groups $\text{GL}_{tn+m}$ $(0 \leq m \leq t-1)$, $\text{SO}_{2tn+3}$, $\text{Sp}_{2tn+2}$ and $\text{O}_{2tn+2}$ evaluated at similar specializations: (1) for the $\text{GL}_{tn+m}(\mathbb{C})$ case, we set the first $tn$ elements to $ω^j x_i$ for $0 \leq j \leq t-1$ and $1 \leq i \leq n$ and the remaining $m$ to $y, ωy, \dots, ω^{m-1} y$; (2) for the other three families, the same specializations but with $m=1$. The main results of this paper are a characterization of partitions for which these characters vanish and a factorization of nonzero characters into those of smaller classical groups. Our motivation is the conjectures of Wagh and Prasad (Manuscripta Math., 2020) relating the irreducible representations of $\text{Spin}_{2n+1}$ and $\text{SL}_{2n}$, $\text{SL}_{2n+1}$ and $\text{Sp}_{2n}$ as well as $\text{Spin}_{2n+2}$ and $\text{Sp}_{2n}$. Our proofs use the Weyl character formulas and the beta-sets of $t$-core partitions. Lastly, we give a bijection to prove that there are infinitely many $t$-core partitions for which these characters are nonzero.

Motivated by the Lam--Pylyavskyy inequalities for Schur functions, we give a far reaching multivariate generalization of Fishburn's correlation inequality for the number of linear extensions of posets. We then give a multivariate generalization of the Daykin--Daykin--Paterson inequality proving log-concavity of the order polynomial of a poset. We also prove a multivariate $P$-partition version of the cross-product inequality by Brightwell--Felsner--Trotter. The proofs are based on a multivariate generalization of the Ahlswede--Daykin inequality.

Partitions with initial repetitions were introduced by George Andrews. We consider a subclass of these partitions and find Legendre theorems associated with their respective partition functions. The results in turn provide partition theoretic interpretations of some Rogers-Ramanujan identities due to Lucy J. Slater.
Coalition of cubic graphs of order at most $10$
The coalition in a graph $G$ consists of two disjoint sets of vertices $V_{1}$ and $V_{2}$, neither of which is a dominating set but whose union $V_{1}\cup V_{2}$, is a dominating set. A coalition partition in a graph $G$ is a vertex partition $π$ = $\{V_1, V_2,..., V_k \}$ such that every set $V_i \in π$ is not a dominating set but forms a coalition with another set $V_j\in π$ which is not a dominating set. The coalition number $C(G)$ equals the maximum $k$ of a coalition partition of $G$. In this paper, we compute the coalition number of all cubic graphs of order at most $10$.
Exact solution of weighted partially directed walks crossing a square

We consider partially directed walks crossing a $L\times L$ square weighted according to their length by a fugacity $t$. The exact solution of this model is computed in three different ways, depending on whether $t$ is less than, equal to or greater than 1. In all cases a complete expression for the dominant asymptotic behaviour of the partition function is calculated. The model admits a dilute to dense phase transition, where for $0 < t < 1$ the partition function scales exponentially in $L$ whereas for $t>1$ the partition function scales exponentially in $L^2$, and when $t=1$ there is an intermediate scaling which is exponential in $L \log{L}$.
Toward Butler's conjecture

For a partition $ν$, let $λ,μ\subseteq ν$ be two distinct partitions such that $|ν/λ|=|ν/μ|=1$. Butler conjectured that the divided difference $\operatorname{I}_{λ,μ}[X;q,t]=(T_λ\widetilde{H}_μ[X;q,t]-T_μ\widetilde{H}_λ[X;q,t])/(T_λ-T_μ)$ of modified Macdonald polynomials of two partitions $λ$ and $μ$ is Schur positive. By introducing a new LLT equivalence called column exchange rule, we give a combinatorial formula for $\operatorname{I}_{λ,μ}[X;q,t]$, which is a positive monomial expansion. We also prove Butler's conjecture for some special cases.

We show that the number $A(n,m)$ of partitions with $m$ even parts and largest hook length $n$ is strongly unimodal with mode [(n-1)/4] for $n\ge 6$. We establish this result by induction, using a $5$-term recurrence due to Lin, Xiong and Yan, and two $4$-term recurrences obtained by Zeilberger's algorithm. The sequence $A(n,m)$ is not log-concave. Using Möbius transformation and the method of interlacing zeros, we obtain that every zero of every generating function $\sum_m A(n,m)z^m$ lies on the left half part of the circle |z-1|=2. Moreover, as a direct application of Wang and Zhang's characterization of root geometry of polynomial sequences that satisfy a recurrence of type $(1,1)$, we see that all these zeros are densely distributed on the half circle.
Problems, proofs, and disproofs on the inversion number

The {\it inversion} of a set $X$ of vertices in a digraph $D$ consists in reversing the direction of all arcs of $D\langle X\rangle$. The {\it inversion number} of an oriented graph $D$, denoted by ${\rm inv}(D)$, is the minimum number of inversions needed to transform $D$ into an acyclic oriented graph. In this paper, we study a number of problems involving the inversion number of oriented graphs. Firstly, we give bounds on ${\rm inv}(n)$, the maximum of the inversion numbers of the oriented graphs of order $n$. We show $n - \mathcal{O}(\sqrt{n\log n}) \ \leq \ {\rm inv}(n) \ \leq \ n - \lceil \log (n+1) \rceil$. Secondly, we disprove a conjecture of Bang-Jensen et al. asserting that, for every pair of oriented graphs $L$ and $R$, we have ${\rm inv}(L\Rightarrow R) ={\rm inv}(L) + {\rm inv}(R)$, where $L\Rightarrow R$ is the oriented graph obtained from the disjoint union of $L$ and $R$ by adding all arcs from $L$ to $R$. Finally, we investigate whether, for all pairs of positive integers $k_1,k_2$, there exists an integer $f(k_1,k_2)$ such that if $D$ is an oriented graph with ${\rm inv}(D) \geq f(k_1,k_2)$ then there is a partition $(V_1, V_2)$ of $V(D)$ such that ${\rm inv}(D\langle V_i\rangle) \geq k_i$ for $i=1,2$. We show that $f(1,k)$ exists and $f(1,k)\leq k+10$ for all positive integers $k$. Further, we show that $f(k_1,k_2)$ exists for all pairs of positive integers $k_1,k_2$ when the oriented graphs in consideration are restricted to be tournaments.
Connecting Permutation Equivariant Neural Networks and Partition Diagrams

Permutation equivariant neural networks are often constructed using tensor powers of $\mathbb{R}^{n}$ as their layer spaces. We show that all of the weight matrices that appear in these neural networks can be obtained from Schur-Weyl duality between the symmetric group and the partition algebra. In particular, we adapt Schur-Weyl duality to derive a simple, diagrammatic method for calculating the weight matrices themselves.
Approximate counting using Taylor's theorem: a survey

In this article we consider certain well-known polynomials associated with graphs including the independence polynomial and the chromatic polynomial. These polynomials count certain objects in graphs: independent sets in the case of the independence polynomial and proper colourings in the case of the chromatic polynomial. They also have interpretations as partition functions in statistical physics.
The algorithmic problem of (approximately) computing these types of polynomials has been studied for close to 50 years, especially using Markov chain techniques. Around eight years ago, Barvinok devised a new algorithmic approach based on Taylor's theorem for computing the permanent of certain matrices, and the approach has been applied to various graph polynomials since then. This article is intended as a gentle introduction to the approach as well as a partial survey of associated techniques and results.
Universal characters twisted by roots of unity

A classical result of Littlewood gives a factorisation for the Schur function at a set of variables "twisted" by a primitive $t$-th root of unity, characterised by the core and quotient of the indexing partition. While somewhat neglected, it has proved to be an important tool in the character theory of the symmetric group, the cyclic sieving phenomenon, plethysms of symmetric functions and more. Recently, similar factorisations for the characters of the groups $\mathrm{O}(2n,\mathbb{C})$, $\mathrm{Sp}(2n,\mathbb{C})$ and $\mathrm{SO}(2n+1,\mathbb{C})$ were obtained by Ayyer and Kumari. We lift these results to the level of universal characters, which has the benefit of making the proofs simpler and the structure of the factorisations more transparent. Our approach also allows for universal character extensions of some factorisations of a different nature originally discovered by Ciucu and Krattenthaler, and generalised by Ayyer and Behrend.
Partition regularity of infinite parallelepiped sets
A proper infinite parallelepiped (IP) set in a semigroup is an infinite set consisting of a sequence $\myseq{a}$ and its finite sums, or a superset of such a set.
Hindman's theorem asserts that the proper IP sets of natural numbers are partition regular: for each finite coloring of a proper IP set of natural numbers there is a monochromatic proper IP subset.
Furstenberg generalized this question to arbitrary semigroups, in which the analogous result does not hold in general. We provide a complete classification of the semigroups for which the proper IP sets are partition regular, and show that this property is equivalent to other fundamental notions of additive Ramsey theory.
The partition function modulo 4

It is widely believed that the parity of the partition function $p(n)$ is ``random.'' Contrary to this expectation, in this note we prove the existence of infinitely many congruence relations modulo 4 among its values. For each square-free integer $1<D\equiv 23\pmod{24},$ we construct a weight 2 meromorphic modular form that is congruent modulo 4 to a certain twisted generating function for the numbers $p\big(\frac{Dm^2+1}{24}\big)\pmod 4$. We prove the existence of infinitely many linear dependence congruences modulo 4 among suitable sets of holomorphic normalizations of these series.
These results rely on the theory of class numbers and Hilbert class polynomials, and {\it generalized twisted Borcherds products} developed by Bruinier and the author.
RSK tableaux and the weak order on fully commutative permutations

For each fully commutative permutation, we construct a "boolean core," which is the maximal boolean permutation in its principal order ideal under the right weak order. We partition the set of fully commutative permutations into the recently defined crowded and uncrowded elements, distinguished by whether or not their RSK insertion tableaux satisfy a sparsity condition. We show that a fully commutative element is uncrowded exactly when it shares the RSK insertion tableau with its boolean core. We present the dynamics of the right weak order on fully commutative permutations, with particular interest in when they change from uncrowded to crowded. In particular, we use consecutive permutation patterns and descents to characterize the minimal crowded elements under the right weak order.
Bounds for the Grundy chromatic number of graphs in terms of domination number

For any graph $G$, the Grundy (or First-Fit) chromatic number of $G$, denoted by $Γ(G)$ (also $χ_{_{\sf FF}}(G)$), is defined as the maximum number of colors used by the First-Fit (greedy) coloring of the vertices of $G$. Determining the Grundy number is $NP$-complete, and obtaining bounds for $Γ(G)$ in terms of the known graph parameters is an active research topic. By a star partition of $G$ we mean any partition of $V(G)$ into say $V_1, \ldots, V_k$ such that each $G[V_i]$ contains a vertex adjacent to any other vertex in $V_i$. In this paper using the star partition of graphs we obtain the first upper bounds for the Grundy number in terms of the domination number. We also prove some bounds in terms of the domination number and girth of graphs.
A new formula for intersection numbers
We propose a new formula to compute Witten--Kontsevich intersection numbers. It is a closed formula, not involving recursion neither solving equations. It only involves sums over partitions of products of factorials, double factorials and Kostka numbers (numbers of semi-standard tableau of given shape and weight) with bounded weights. As an application, we prove a conjecture of [ELO21] stating that the generating polynomials of the intersection numbers expressed in the basis of elementary symmetric polynomials have an unexpected vanishing of their coefficients.
Quantum Grassmannians and their Associated Quantum Schubert Varieties at roots of unity
We study the PI degree of various quantum algebras at roots of unity, including quantum Grassmannians, quantum Schubert varieties, partition subalgebras, and their associated quantum affine spaces. By a theorem of De Concini and Procesi, the PI degree of partition subalgebras and their associated quantum affine spaces is controlled by skew-symmetric integral matrices associated to (Cauchon-Le) diagrams. We prove that the invariant factors of these matrices are always powers of 2. This allows us to compute explicitly the PI degree of partition subalgebras.
Our results also apply to certain completely prime (homogeneous) quotients of partition subalgebras. In particular, our results allow us to extend results of Jakobsen and Jondrup regarding the PI degree of quantum determinantal rings at roots of unity [JJ01] and we present a method to construct an irreducible representation of maximal dimension for quantum determinantal ideals.
Building on these results, we use the strong connection between partition subalgebras and quantum Schubert varieties through noncommutative dehomogenisation [LR08] to obtain expressions for the PI degree of quantum Schubert varieties. In particular, we compute the PI degree of quantum Grassmannians.
