BGP-reflection functors and cluster combinatorics
Published • View PublicationBIB
We define Bernstein-Gelfand-Ponomarev reflection functors in the cluster categories of hereditary algebras. They are triangle equivalences which provide a natural quiver realization of the "truncated simple reflections" on the set of almost positive roots $Φ_{\ge -1}$ associated to a finite dimensional semisimple Lie algebra. Combining with the tilting theory in cluster categories developed in [4], we give a unified interpretation via quiver representations for the generalized associahedra associated to the root systems of all Dynkin types (a simply-laced or non-simply-laced). This confirms the conjecture 9.1 in [4] in all Dynkin types.

Betti numbers of holomorphic symplectic quotients via arithmetic Fourier transform
Published • View PublicationBIB
A Fourier transform technique is introduced for counting the number of solutions of holomorphic moment map equations over a finite field. This in turn gives information on Betti numbers of holomorphic symplectic quotients. As a consequence simple unified proofs are obtained for formulas of Poincare polynomials of toric hyperkahler varieties, Poincare polynomials of Hilbert schemes of points and twisted ADHM spaces of instantons on C^2 and Poincare polynomials of all Nakajima quiver varieties. As an application, a proof of a conjecture of Kac on the number of absolutely indecomposable representations of a quiver is announced.

A Combinatorial Study on Quiver Varieties
Published in SIGMA 13 (2017), 052, 28 pages • View PublicationBIB
This is an expository paper which has two parts. In the first part, we study quiver varieties of affine $A$-type from a combinatorial point of view. We present a combinatorial method for obtaining a closed formula for the generating function of Poincaré polynomials of quiver varieties in rank 1 cases. Our main tools are cores and quotients of Young diagrams. In the second part, we give a brief survey of instanton counting in physics, where quiver varieties appear as moduli spaces of instantons, focusing on its combinatorial aspects.

Cluster algebras associated with extended Dynkin quivers
We show that the mutation class of a finite quiver without oriented cycles is finite if and only is the quiver is either Dynkin, extended Dynkin or has at most two vertices.

q-Cartan matrices and combinatorial invariants of derived categories for skewed-gentle algebras
Published • View PublicationBIB
Cartan matrices are of fundamental importance in representation theory. For algebras defined by quivers (i.e. directed graphs) with relations the computation of the entries of the Cartan matrix amounts to counting nonzero paths in the quivers, leading naturally to a combinatorial setting. In this paper we study a refined version, so-called q-Cartan matrices, where each nonzero path is weighted by a power of an indeterminant q according to its length. Specializing q=1 gives the classical Cartan matrix. Our main motivation are derived module categories and their invariants: the invariant factors, and hence the determinant, of the Cartan matrix are preserved by derived equivalences. The paper deals with the important class of (skewed-) gentle algebras which occur naturally in representation theory, especially in the context of derived categories. These algebras are defined in purely combinatorial terms. We determine normal forms for the Cartan matrices of (skewed-) gentle algebras. In particular, we give explicit combinatorial formulae for the invariant factors and thus also for the determinant of the Cartan matrices of skewed-gentle algebras. As an application of our main results we show how one can use our formulae for the notoriously difficult problem of distinguishing derived equivalence classes.

Nilpotent orbits of linear and cyclic quivers and Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials of type A
Published in Represent. Theory 11 (2007), pp. 95-121 • View PublicationBIB
The intersection cohomologies of closures of nilpotent orbits of linear (respectively, cyclic) quivers are known to be described by Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials for the symmetric group (respectively, the affine symmetric group). We explain how to simplify this description using a combinatorial cancellation procedure, and derive some consequences for representation theory.

Quivers, long exact sequences and Horn type inequalities
Published • View PublicationBIB
We give necessary and sufficient inequalities for the existence of long exact sequences of m finite abelian p-groups with fixed isomorphy types. This problem is related to some generalized Littlewood-Richardson coefficients that we define in this paper. We also show how this problem is related to eigenvalues of Hermitian matrices satisfying certain (in)equalities. When m=3, we recover the Horn type inequalities that solve the saturation conjecture for Littlewood-Richardson coefficients and Horn's conjecture.

Alternating formulas for K-theoretic quiver polynomials
Published • View PublicationBIB
The main theorem here is the K-theoretic analogue of the cohomological `stable double component formula' for quiver functions in [Knutson, Miller, and Shimozono, math.AG/0308142]. This K-theoretic version is still in terms of lacing diagrams, but nonminimal diagrams contribute terms of higher degree. The motivating consequence is a conjecture of A. Buch on the sign-alternation of the coefficients appearing in his expansion of quiver K-polynomials in terms of stable Grothendieck polynomials for partitions [Buch, math.AG/0104029].
Quiver coefficients are Schubert structure constants
Published in Mathematical Research Letters, Volume 12, Issue 4, 567-574 (2005). • View PublicationBIB
We give an explicit natural identification between the quiver coefficients of Buch and Fulton, decomposition coefficients for Schubert polynomials, and the Schubert structure constants for flag manifolds. This is also achieved in K-theory where we give a direct argument that the decomposition coefficients have alternating signs, based on a theorem of Brion, which then implies that the quiver coefficients have alternating signs. Our identification shows that known combinatorial formulas for the latter two numbers give formulas for the quiver coefficients.

Four positive formulae for type A quiver polynomials
Published • View PublicationBIB
We give four positive formulae for the (equioriented type A) quiver polynomials of Buch and Fulton. All four formulae are combinatorial, in the sense that they are expressed in terms of combinatorial objects of certain types: Zelevinsky permutations, lacing diagrams, Young tableaux, and pipe dreams (also known as rc-graphs). Three of our formulae are multiplicity-free and geometric, meaning that their summands have coefficient 1, and correspond bijectively to components of a torus-invariant scheme. The remaining (presently non-geometric) formula was conjectured for by Buch and Fulton in terms of factor sequences of Young tableaux; our proof of it proceeds by way of a new characterization of the tableaux counted by quiver constants. All four formulae come naturally in ``doubled'' versions, two for `double quiver polynomials', and the other two for their stable versions, the `double quiver functions', where setting half the variables equal to the other half specializes to the ordinary case.

Singular locally-scalar representations of quivers in Hilbert spaces and separating functions
Published • View PublicationBIB
A numeric function $ρ$: $ρ(k)=1+\frac{k-1}{k+1}, k \in N$ was considered in [1]. In its terms criterions of finite representability and tameness of marked quivers, posets with equivalence and dyadic posets can be obtained; Dynkin schemes and extended schemes also can be characterized. In this paper authors consider the connection of function $ρ$ with locally-scalar representations [2] of extended Dynkin graphs. Then a family of functions $ρ_n$ is defined -- a generalization of function $ρ$, which plays an analogous part for more wide class of graphs. Also some properties of functions $ρ$ and $ρ_k$ are proved. References [1] L.A. Nazarova, A.V. Roiter. {\it Norm of a relation, separating functions and representations of marked quivers.} Ukr. Math. On combinatorics of quiver component formulas
Published in Journal of Algebraic Combinatorics, 21, 351-371, 2005 • View PublicationBIB
Buch and Fulton conjectured the nonnegativity of the quiver coefficients appearing in their formula for a quiver variety. Knutson, Miller and Shimozono proved this conjecture as an immediate consequence of their ``component formula''. We present an alternative proof of the component formula by substituting combinatorics for Grobner degeneration. We relate the component formula to the work of Buch, Kresch, Tamvakis and the author where a ``splitting'' formula for Schubert polynomials in terms of quiver coefficients was obtained. We prove analogues of this latter result for the type BCD-Schubert polynomials of Billey and Haiman.

Alternating signs of quiver coefficients
Published • View PublicationBIB
We prove K-theoretic generalizations of the component formulas of Knutson, Miller, and Shimozono, and deduce that K-theoretic quiver coefficients have alternating signs. We also prove new variants of the factor sequences conjecture, and a conjecture of Knutson, Miller, and Shimozono stating that the double ratio formula agrees with the original quiver formulas. For completeness we include a short proof of the ratio formula for quiver varieties.
Grothendieck polynomials and quiver formulas
Published in Amer. J. Math., 127 (2005), 551--567. • View PublicationBIB
Fulton's universal Schubert polynomials give cohomology formulas for a class of degeneracy loci, which generalize Schubert varieties. The K-theoretic quiver formula of Buch expresses the structure sheaves of these loci as integral linear combinations of products of stable Grothendieck polynomials. We prove an explicit combinatorial formula for the coefficients, which shows that they have alternating signs. Our result is applied to obtain new expansions for the Grothendieck polynomials of Lascoux and Schützenberger.
Schubert Polynomials and Quiver Formulas
Published in Duke Math Journal, Volume 122, Issue 1, 125-143 (2004) • View PublicationBIB
The work of Buch and Fulton established a formula for a general kind of degeneracy locus associated to an oriented quiver of type $A$. The main ingredients in this formula are Schur determinants and certain integers, the quiver coefficients, which generalize the classical Littlewood-Richardson coefficients. Our aim in this paper is to prove a positive combinatorial formula for the quiver coefficients when the rank conditions defining the degeneracy locus are given by a permutation. In particular, this gives new expansions for Fulton's universal Schubert polynomials and the Schubert polynomials of Lascoux and Schützenberger.

Quiver varieties, affine Lie algebras, algebras of BPS states, and semicanonical basis
Published • View PublicationBIB
We suggest a (conjectural) construction of a basis in the plus part of the affine Lie algebra of type ADE indexed by irreducible components of certain quiver varieties. This construction is closely related to a string-theoretic construction of a Lie algebra of BPS states. We then study the new combinatorial questions about the (classical) root systems naturally arising from our constructions and Lusztig's semicanonical basis.

Toric Hyperkahler Varieties
Published • View PublicationBIB
Extending work of Bielawski-Dancer and Konno, we develop a theory of toric hyperkahler varieties, which involves toric geometry, matroid theory and convex polyhedra. The framework is a detailed study of semi-projective toric varieties, meaning GIT quotients of affine spaces by torus actions, and specifically, of Lawrence toric varieties, meaning GIT quotients of even-dimensional affine spaces by symplectic torus actions. A toric hyperkahler variety is a complete intersection in a Lawrence toric variety. Both varieties are non-compact, and they share the same cohomology ring, namely, the Stanley-Reisner ring of a matroid modulo a linear system of parameters. Familiar applications of toric geometry to combinatorics, including the Hard Lefschetz Theorem and the volume polynomials of Khovanskii-Pukhlikov, are extended to the hyperkahler setting. When the matroid is graphic, our construction gives the toric quiver varieties, in the sense of Nakajima.

Absolutely indecomposable representations and Kac-Moody Lie algebras (with an appendix by Hiraku Nakajima)
A conjecture of Kac states that the polynomial counting the number of absolutely indecomposable representations of a quiver over a finite field with given dimension vector has positive coefficients and furthermore that its constant term is equal to the multiplicity of the corresponding root in the associated Kac-Moody Lie algebra. In this paper we prove these conjectures for indivisible dimension vectors.

Grothendieck classes of quiver varieties
Published • View PublicationBIB
We prove a formula for the structure sheaf of a quiver variety in the Grothendieck ring of its embedding variety. This formula generalizes and gives new expressions for Grothendieck polynomials. We furthermore conjecture that the coefficients in our formula have signs which alternate with degree. The proof of our formula involves $K$-theoretic generalizations of several useful cohomological tools, including the Thom-Porteous formula, the Jacobi-Trudi formula, and a Gysin formula of Pragacz.

Tensor product varieties and crystals. ADE case
Let g be a simple simply laced Lie algebra. In this paper two families of varieties associated to the Dynkin graph of g are described: ``tensor product'' and ``multiplicity'' varieties. These varieties are closely related to Nakajima's quiver varieties and should play an important role in the geometric constructions of tensor products and intertwining operators. In particular it is shown that the set of irreducible components of a tensor product variety can be equipped with a structure of g-crystal isomorphic to the crystal of the canonical basis of the tensor product of several simple finite dimensional representations of g, and that the number of irreducible components of a multiplicity variety is equal to the multiplicity of a certain representation in the tensor product of several others. Moreover the decomposition of a tensor product into a direct sum is described geometrically (on the level of crystals).
