Stanley (1986) showed how a finite partially ordered set gives rise to two polytopes, called the order polytope and chain polytope, which have the same Ehrhart polynomial despite being quite different combinatorially. We generalize his result to a wider family of polytopes constructed from a poset P with integers assigned to some of its elements.
Through this construction, we explain combinatorially the relationship between the Gelfand-Tsetlin polytopes (1950) and the Feigin-Fourier-Littelmann polytopes (2010), which arise in the representation theory of the special linear Lie algebra. We then use the generalized Gelfand-Tsetlin polytopes of Berenstein and Zelevinsky (1989) to propose conjectural analogues of the Feigin-Fourier-Littelmann polytopes corresponding to the symplectic and odd orthogonal Lie algebras.

We study the point regular groups of automorphisms of some of the known generalised quadrangles. In particular we determine all point regular groups of automorphisms of the thick classical generalised quadrangles. We also construct point regular groups of automorphisms of the generalised quadrangle of order $(q-1,q+1)$ obtained by Payne derivation from the classical symplectic quadrangle $\mathsf{W}(3,q)$. For $q=p^f$ with $f\geq 2$ we obtain at least two nonisomorphic groups when $p\geq 5$ and at least three nonisomorphic groups when $p=2$ or $3$. Our groups include nonabelian 2-groups, groups of exponent 9 and nonspecial $p$-groups. We also enumerate all point regular groups of automorphisms of some small generalised quadrangles.

The symplectic group branching algebra, B, is a graded algebra whose components encode the multiplicities of irreducible representations of Sp(2n-2,C) in each irreducible representation of Sp(2n,C). By describing on B an ASL structure, we construct an explicit standard monomial basis of B consisting of Sp(2n-2,C) highest weight vectors. Moreover, B is known to carry a canonical action of the n-fold product SL(2) \times ... \times SL(2), and we show that the standard monomial basis is the unique (up to scalar) weight basis associated to this representation. Finally, using the theory of Hibi algebras we describe a deformation of Spec(B) into an explicit toric variety.
New Techniques for obtaining Schubert-type formulas for Hamiltonian manifolds

In [GT], Goldin and the second author extend some ideas from Schubert calculus to the more general setting of Hamiltonian torus actions on compact symplectic manifolds with isolated fixed points. (See also [Kn99] and [Kn08].) The main goal of this paper is to build on this work by finding more effective formulas. More explicitly, given a generic component of the moment map, they define a canonical class $α_p$ in the equivariant cohomology of the manifold $M$ for each fixed point $p \in M$. When they exist, canonical classes form a natural basis of the equivariant cohomology of $M$. In particular, when $M$ is a flag variety, these classes are the equivariant Schubert classes. It is a long standing problem in combinatorics to find positive integral formulas for the equivariant structure constants associated to this basis. Since computing the restriction of the canonical classes to the fixed points determines these structure constants, it is important to find effective formulas for these restrictions. In this paper, we introduce new techniques for calculating the restrictions of a canonical class $α_p$ to a fixed point $q$. Our formulas are nearly always simpler, in the sense that they count the contributions over fewer paths. Moreover, our formula is manifestly positive and integral in certain important special cases.
The topology of toric symplectic manifolds

This is a collection of results on the topology of toric symplectic manifolds. Using an idea of Borisov, we show that a closed symplectic manifold supports at most a finite number of toric structures. Further, the product of two projective spaces of complex dimension at least two (and with a standard product symplectic form) has a unique toric structure. We then discuss various constructions, using wedging to build a monotone toric symplectic manifold whose center is not the unique point displaceable by probes, and bundles and blow ups to form manifolds with more than one toric structure. The bundle construction uses the McDuff--Tolman concept of mass linear function. Using Timorin's description of the cohomology ring via the volume function we develop a cohomological criterion for a function to be mass linear, and explain its relation to Shelukhin's higher codimension barycenters.

We develop cycle index generating functions for orthogonal groups in even characteristic, and give some enumerative applications. A key step is the determination of the values of the complex linear-Weil characters of the finite symplectic group, and their inductions to the general linear group, at unipotent elements. We also define and study several natural probability measures on integer partitions.
On restricted unitary Cayley graphs and symplectic transformations modulo n

We present some observations on a restricted variant of unitary Cayley graphs modulo n, and the implications for a decomposition of elements of symplectic operators over the integers modulo n. We define quadratic unitary Cayley graphs G_n, whose vertex set is the ring Z_n, and where residues a, b modulo n are adjacent if and only if their difference is a quadratic residue. By bounding the diameter of such graphs, we show an upper bound on the number of elementary operations (symplectic scalar multiplications, symplectic row swaps, and row additions or subtractions) required to decompose a symplectic matrix over Z_n. We also characterize the conditions on n for G_n to be a perfect graph.

In a previous paper we define a Curtis-Tits group as a certain generalization of a Kac-Moody group. We distinguish between orientable and non-orientable Curtis-Tits groups and identify all orientable Curtis-Tits groups as
Kac-Moody groups associated to twin-buildings.
In the present paper we construct all orientable and non-orientable Curtis-Tits groups with diagram $\widetilde{A}_n$ over a field ${\mathbb F}$. The resulting groups are quite interesting in their own right. The orientable ones are related to Drinfel'd' s construction of vector bundles over a non-commutative projective line and to the classical groups over cyclic algebras. The non-orientable ones are related to q-CCR algebras in physics and have symplectic, orthogonal and unitary groups as quotients.

We classify the invariant prime ideals of a quantum partial flag variety under the action of the related maximal torus. As a result we construct a bijection between them and the torus orbits of symplectic leaves of the standard Poisson structure on the corresponding flag variety. It was previously shown by K. Goodearl and the author that the latter are precisely the Lusztig strata of the partial flag variety.

The algebra of quantum matrices of a given size supports a rational torus action by automorphisms. It follows from work of Letzter and the first named author that to understand the prime and primitive spectra of this algebra, the first step is to understand the prime ideals that are invariant under the torus action. In this paper, we prove that a family of quantum minors is the set of all quantum minors that belong to a given torus-invariant prime ideal of a quantum matrix algebra if and only if the corresponding family of minors defines a non-empty totally nonnegative cell in the space of totally nonnegative real matrices of the appropriate size. As a corollary, we obtain explicit generating sets of quantum minors for the torus-invariant prime ideals of quantum matrices in the case where the quantisation parameter $q$ is transcendental over $\mathbb{Q}$.

We use Hopf algebras to prove a version of the Littlewood-Richardson rule for skew Schur functions, which implies a conjecture of Assaf and McNamara. We also establish skew Littlewood-Richardson rules for Schur P- and Q-functions and noncommutative ribbon Schur functions, as well as skew Pieri rules for k-Schur functions, dual k-Schur functions, and for the homology of the affine Grassmannian of the symplectic group.

Let $G$ be a classical complex Lie group, $P$ any parabolic subgroup of $G$, and $G/P$ the corresponding partial flag variety. We prove an explicit combinatorial Giambelli formula which expresses an arbitrary Schubert class in the cohomology ring of $G/P$ as a polynomial in certain special Schubert class generators. Our formula extends to one that applies to the torus-equivariant cohomology ring of $G/P$ and to the setting of symplectic and orthogonal degeneracy loci.

Let $V$ be a $2m$-dimensional symplectic vector space over an algebraically closed field $K$. Let $\mbb_n^{(f)}$ be the two-sided ideal of the Brauer algebra $\mbb_n(-2m)$ over $K$ generated by $e_1e_3... e_{2f-1}$, where $0\leq f\leq [n/2]$. Let $\mathcal{HT}_{f}^{\otimes n}$ be the subspace of partially harmonic tensors of valence $f$ in $V^{\otimes n}$. In this paper, we prove that $\dim\mathcal{HT}_f^{\otimes n}$ and $\dim\End_{KSp(V)}\Bigl(V^{\otimes n}/V^{\otimes n}\mbb_n^{(f)}\Bigr)$ are both independent of $K$, and the natural homomorphism from $\mbb_n(-2m)/\mbb_n^{(f)}$ to $\End_{KSp(V)}\Bigl(V^{\otimes n}/V^{\otimes n}\mbb_n^{(f)}\Bigr)$ is always surjective. We show that $\mathcal{HT}_{f}^{\otimes n}$ has a Weyl filtration and is isomorphic to the dual of $V^{\otimes n}\mbb_n^{(f)}/V^{\otimes n}\mbb_n^{(f+1)}$ as a $Sp(V)$-$(\mbb_n(-2m)/\mbb_n^{(f+1)})$-bimodule. We obtain a $Sp(V)$-$\mbb_n$-bimodules filtration of $V^{\otimes n}$ such that each successive quotient is isomorphic to some $\nabla(\lam)\otimes z_{g,\lam}\mbb_n$ with $\lam\vdash n-2g$, $\ell(\lam)\leq m$ and $0\leq g\leq [n/2]$, where $\nabla(\lam)$ is the co-Weyl module associated to $\lam$ and $z_{g,\lam}$ is an explicitly constructed maximal vector of weight $\lam$. As a byproduct, we show that each right $\mbb_n$-module $z_{g,\lam}\mbb_n$ is integrally defined and stable under base change.

We generalize the constructions of Eisenbud, Fløystad, and Weyman for equivariant minimal free resolutions over the general linear group, and we construct equivariant resolutions over the orthogonal and symplectic groups. We also conjecture and provide some partial results for the existence of an equivariant analogue of Boij-Söderberg decompositions for Betti tables, which were proven to exist in the non-equivariant setting by Eisenbud and Schreyer. Many examples are given.

The diamond cone is a combinatorial description for a basis in a indecomposable module for the nilpotent factor n+ of a semi simple Lie algebra. After N.J. Wildberger who introduced this notion for sl(3), this description was achevied by N. Bel Baraka, N.J. Wildberger and D. A. for sl(n) and by B. Agrebaoui and ourselves for the rank 2 semi-simple Lie algebras. In the present work, we generalize these constructions to the Lie algebras sp(2n). The symplectic semi-standard Young tableaux were defined by C. de Concini, they form a basis for the shape algebra of sp(2n). We introduce here the notion of symplectic quasi-standard Young tableaux, these tableaux describe the diamond cone for sp(2n).

In particular, we show that each of these algebras has a standard monomial basis and has a flat deformation to a Hibi algebra. There is also a parallel theory for the complex symplectic group.

We describe explicitly the admissible families of minors for the totally nonnegative cells of real matrices, that is, the families of minors that produce nonempty cells in the cell decompositions of spaces of totally nonnegative matrices introduced by A. Postnikov. In order to do this, we relate the totally nonnegative cells to torus orbits of symplectic leaves of the Poisson varieties of complex matrices. In particular, we describe the minors that vanish on a torus orbit of symplectic leaves, we prove that such families of minors are exactly the admissible families, and we show that the nonempty totally nonnegative cells are the intersections of the torus orbits of symplectic leaves with the spaces of totally nonnegative matrices.

Calderbank, Rains, Shor and Sloane (see \cite{Sloane}) showed that error-correction is possible in the context of quantum computations. Quantum stabilizer codes are a class of additive quaternary codes in binary projective spaces, which are self-orthogonal with respect to the symplectic form. A geometric description is given in \cite{Bierbra}, where also the notion of quantum cap is introduced. Quantum caps correspond to the special case of quantum stabilizer codes of distance $d=4$ when the code is linear over GF(4). In the present paper we review the translation from quantum error-correction to symplectic geometry and study quantum codes in PG(4,4) where we construct complete quantum caps with 20, 29, 30, 32, 33, 34, 36 and 38 points and incomplete quantum caps with 10, 12, 13, 20, 23, 24, 25 and 26 points and we prove the non existence of 11-quantum caps. In particular the quantum caps of sizes 36 and 38 yield positive answers to the existence questions of quantum codes $[[36,26,4]]$ and $[[38,28,4]]$ that remained open in the data base \cite{codetable}.

By extracting an algebra over a distributive lattice structure from the coordinate ring of the nullcone, we describe a toric degeneration and standard monomial theory of the nullcone in terms of double tableaux and integral points in a convex polyhedral cone.

Let $G = {\rm U}(2m, {\mathbb F}_{q^2})$ be the finite unitary group, with $q$ the power of an odd prime $p$. We prove that the number of irreducible complex characters of $G$ with degree not divisible by $p$ and with Frobenius-Schur indicator -1 is $q^{m-1}$. We also obtain a combinatorial formula for the value of any character of ${\rm U}(n, {\mathbb F}_{q^2})$ at any central element, using the characteristic map of the finite unitary group.
