Dimensions of $τ$-tilting modules over path algebras and preprojective algebras of Dynkin type
Published in Journal of Algebra. Volume 667, 1 April 2025, Pages 365-411 • Search Publication
In this paper, we introduce a new generating function called $d$-polynomial for the dimensions of $τ$-tilting modules over a given finite dimensional algebra. Firstly, we study basic properties of $d$-polynomials and show that it can be realized as a certain sum of the $f$-polynomials of the simplicial complexes arising from $τ$-rigid pairs. Secondly, we give explicit formulas of $d$-polynomials for preprojective algebras and path algebras of Dynkin quivers by using a close relation with $W$-Eulerian polynomials and $W$-Narayana polynomials. Thirdly, we consider the ordinary and exponential generating functions defined from $d$-polynomials and give closed-form expressions in the case of preprojective algebras and path algebras of Dynkin type $\mathbb{A}$.

Pop-Stack Operators for Torsion Classes and Cambrian Lattices
The pop-stack operator of a finite lattice $L$ is the map $\mathrm{pop}^{\downarrow}_L\colon L\to L$ that sends each element $x\in L$ to the meet of $\{x\}\cup\text{cov}_L(x)$, where $\text{cov}_L(x)$ is the set of elements covered by $x$ in $L$. We study several properties of the pop-stack operator of $\mathrm{tors}Λ$, the lattice of torsion classes of a $τ$-tilting finite algebra $Λ$ over a field $K$. We describe the pop-stack operator in terms of certain mutations of 2-term simple-minded collections. This allows us to describe preimages of a given torsion class under the pop-stack operator. We then specialize our attention to Cambrian lattices of a finite irreducible Coxeter group $W$. Using tools from representation theory, we provide simple Coxeter-theoretic and lattice-theoretic descriptions of the image of the pop-stack operator of a Cambrian lattice (which can be stated without representation theory). When specialized to a bipartite Cambrian lattice of type A, this result settles a conjecture of Choi and Sun. We also settle a related enumerative conjecture of Defant and Williams. When $L$ is an arbitrary lattice quotient of the weak order on $W$, we prove that the maximum size of a forward orbit under the pop-stack operator of $L$ is at most the Coxeter number of $W$; when $L$ is a Cambrian lattice, we provide an explicit construction to show that this maximum forward orbit size is actually equal to the Coxeter number.

Torsion pairs in repetitive cluster categories of type $A_n$
We give a complete classification of torsion pairs in repetitive cluster categories of type $A_n$, which were defined by Zhu as the orbit categories, via certain configurations of diagonals, called Ptolemy diagrams. As applications, we classify rigid subcategories, which gives Lamberti's classification of cluster tilting subcategories. When $p = 1$, this generalizes the work of Holm, Jorgensen and Rubey for the classification of torsion pairs in cluster categories of type $A_n$.

Derived Categories of Permutahedral and Stellahedral Varieties
We utilize the coherent-constructible correspondence to construct full strongly exceptional collections of nef line bundles in the derived category of a toric variety through the combinatorics of constructible sheaves built from polytopes. To show that sequences are full, we build exact complexes of line bundles that categorify the relations in the McMullen polytope algebra. We compute the homomorphisms between certain constructible sheaves on polytopes and use this to reduce the question of exceptionality to showing that certain set differences of polytopes are contractible. As an application of our method, we construct full strongly exceptional collections of nef line bundles for the toric varieties associated to the permutahedron, stellahedron, and the type $B_n$ Coxeter permutahedron. The line bundles in our collections are indexed by base polytopes of loopless Schubert matroids, independence polytopes of all Schubert matroids, and feasible polytopes of loopless Schubert delta matroids, respectively. Our collections satisfy a number of nice properties: First, the quiver with relations that encodes the endomorphism algebra of the tilting sheaf can be described matroid-theoretically as a slight extension of the notion of weak maps and inclusion of matroids; Second, our collections are invariant under the natural symmetries of the corresponding fans; Finally, the induced semi-orthogonal decomposition of the derived categories refines the cuspidal semi-orthogonal decomposition as studied by Castravet and Tevelev. This gives a full strongly exceptional collection of nef line bundles for the cuspidal parts of the derived categories of our varieties indexed by loopless and coloopless Schubert matroids and Schubert delta matroids.
From structure mining to unsupervised exploration of atomic octahedral networks
Networks of atom-centered coordination octahedra commonly occur in inorganic and hybrid solid-state materials. Characterizing their spatial arrangements and characteristics is crucial for relating structures to properties for many materials families. The traditional method using case-by-case inspection becomes prohibitive for discovering trends and similarities in large datasets. Here, we operationalize chemical intuition to automate the geometric parsing, quantification, and classification of coordination octahedral networks. We find axis-resolved tilting trends in ABO$_{3}$ perovskite polymorphs, which assist in detecting oxidation state changes. Moreover, we develop a scale-invariant encoding scheme to represent these networks, which, combined with human-assisted unsupervised machine learning, allows us to taxonomize the inorganic framework polytypes in hybrid iodoplumbates (A$_x$Pb$_y$I$_z$). Consequently, we uncover a violation of Pauling's third rule and the design principles underpinning their topological diversity. Our results offer a glimpse into the vast design space of atomic octahedral networks and inform high-throughput, targeted screening of specific structure types.

A facial order for torsion classes
We generalize the "facial weak order" of a finite Coxeter group to a partial order on a set of intervals in a complete lattice. We apply our construction to the lattice of torsion classes of a finite-dimensional algebra and consider its restriction to intervals coming from stability conditions. We give two additional interpretations of the resulting "facial semistable order": one using cover relations, and one using Bongartz completions of 2-term presilting objects. For $τ$-tilting finite algebras, this allows us to prove that the facial semistable order is a semidistributive lattice. We then show that, in any abelian length category, our new partial order can be partitioned into a set of completely semidistributive lattices, one of which is the original lattice of torsion classes.

$τ$-exceptional sequences and the shard intersection order in type A
Reading's "shard intersection order" on the symmetric group can be realized as the "lattice of wide subcategories" of the corresponding preprojective algebra. In this paper, we first use Bancroft's combinatorial model for the shard intersection order to associate a unique shard to each downward cover relation. We then show that, under the correspondence with wide subcategories, this process coincides with Jasso's "$τ$-tilting reduction". In particular, this yields a combinatorial model for this algebras's $τ$-exceptional sequences" (defined by Buan and Marsh). We formulate this model using the combinatorics of arc diagrams. Finally, we use our model to give a new representation-theoretic proof that the shard intersection order is EL-shellable in type A.

Hereditary extriangulated categories: Silting objects, mutation, negative extensions
In this article, we initiate the study of hereditary extriangulated categories. Many important categories arising in representation theory in connection with various theories of mutation are hereditary extriangulated. Special cases include homotopy categories of 2-term complexes with projective components, which are related to silting mutation, and cluster categories (with relevant relative extriangulated structures) where cluster tilting mutation take place. We prove that there is a theory of irreducible mutation for maximal rigid objects and subcategories in hereditary extriangulated categories of dominant dimension 1. Applied to the examples above, this recovers 2-term silting mutation in triangulated categories and cluster tilting mutation. By constructing suitable extriangulated categories, we also recover tau-tilting mutation for gentle algebras and flips for their non-kissing facets. Combined with results by Adachi-Tsukamoto and Pauksztello-Zvonareva, our mutation also provides mutation for intermediate co-t-structures. In spirit of our earlier work, we study negative extensions in hereditary extriangulated categories. We give sufficient conditions for the existence of universal balanced negative extensions. We explicitly compute certain, a priori non-universal, versions of negative extensions in hereditary categories constructed from triangulated categories with rigid subcategories. We discuss examples where these two constructions give the same delta-functors and where they disagree.
Fans and polytopes in tilting theory II: $g$-fans of rank 2
The $g$-fan of a finite dimensional algebra is a fan in its real Grothendieck group defined by tilting theory. We give a classification of complete $g$-fans of rank 2. More explicitly, our first main result asserts that every complete sign-coherent fan of rank 2 is a $g$-fan of some finite dimensional algebra. Our proof is based on three fundamental results, Gluing Theorem, Rotation Theorem and Subdivision Theorem, which realize basic operations on fans in the level of finite dimensional algebras. For each of 16 convex sign-coherent fans $Σ$ of rank 2, our second main result gives a characterization of algebras $A$ of rank 2 satisfying $Σ(A)=Σ$. As a by-product of our method, we prove that for each positive integer $N$, there exists a finite dimensional algebra $A$ of rank 2 such that the Hasse quiver of the poset of 2-term silting complexes of $A$ has precisely $N$ connected components.

Intersection vectors over tilings with applications to gentle algebras and cluster algebras
It is proved that a multiset of permissible arcs over a tiling is uniquely determined by its intersection vector under a mild condition. This generalizes a classical result over marked surfaces with triangulations. We apply this result to study $τ$-tilting theory of gentle algebras and denominator conjecture in cluster algebras. In the case of gentle algebras, it is proved that different $τ$-rigid $A$-modules over a gentle algebra $A$ have different dimension vectors if and only if $A$ has no even oriented cycle with full relations. For cluster algebras, the denominator conjecture has been established for cluster algebras of type $\mathbb{A}\mathbb{B}\mathbb{C}$.

The higher Stasheff--Tamari orders in representation theory
Published • View PublicationBIB
We show that the relationship discovered by Oppermann and Thomas between triangulations of cyclic polytopes and the higher Auslander algebras of type $A$, denoted $A_{n}^{d}$, is an incredibly rich one. The \emph{higher Stasheff--Tamari orders} are two orders on triangulations of cyclic polytopes, conjectured to be equivalent, defined in the 1990s by Kapranov and Voevodsky, and Edelman and Reiner. We first show that these orders correspond in even dimensions to natural orders on tilting modules defined by Riedtmann and Schofield and studied by Happel and Unger. This result allows us to show that triangulations of odd-dimensional cyclic polytopes are in bijection with equivalence classes of $d$-maximal green sequences of $A_{n}^{d}$, which we introduce as a higher-dimensional generalisation of the original maximal green sequences of Keller. We further interpret the higher Stasheff--Tamari orders in odd dimensions, where they correspond to natural orders on equivalences classes of $d$-maximal green sequences. The conjecture that these two partial orders on equivalence classes of $d$-maximal green sequences are equal amounts to an oriented version of the ``no-gap'' conjecture of Brüstle, Dupont, and Perotin. A corollary of our results is that this conjecture holds for $A_{n}$, and that here the set of equivalence classes of (1-)maximal green sequences is a lattice.

Lattice structure in cluster algebra of finite type and non-simply-laced Ingalls-Thomas bijection
In this paper, we demonstrate that the lattice structure of a set of clusters in a cluster algebra of finite type is anti-isomorphic to the torsion lattice of a certain Geiss-Leclerc-Schröer (GLS) path algebra and to the $c$-Cambrian lattice. We prove this by explicitly describing the exchange quivers of cluster algebras of finite type. Specifically, we prove that these quivers are anti-isomorphic to those formed by support $τ$-tilting modules in GLS path algebras and to those formed by $c$-clusters consisting of almost positive roots.

Exceptional sequences in semidistributive lattices and the poset topology of wide subcategories
Published • View PublicationBIB
Let $Λ$ be a finite-dimensional algebra over a field $K$. We describe how Buan and Marsh's $τ$-exceptional sequences can be used to give a "brick labeling" of a certain poset of wide subcategories of finitely-generated $Λ$-modules. When $Λ$ is representation-directed, we prove that there exists a total order on the set of bricks which makes this into an EL-labeling. Motivated by the connection between classical exceptional sequences and noncrossing partitions, we then turn our attention towards the study of (well-separated) completely semidistributive lattices. Such lattices come equipped with a bijection between their completely join-irreducible and completely meet-irreducible elements, known as rowmotion or simply the "$κ$-map". Generalizing known results for finite semidistributive lattices, we show that the $κ$-map determines exactly when a set of completely join-irreducible elements forms a "canonical join representation". A consequence is that the corresponding "canonical join complex" is a flag simplicial complex, as has been shown for finite semidistributive lattices and lattices of torsion classes of finite-dimensional algebras. Finally, in the case of lattices of torsion classes of finite-dimensional algebras, we demonstrate how Jasso's $τ$-tilting reduction can be encoded using the $κ$-map. We use this to define $κ^d$-exceptional sequences for finite semidistributive lattices. These are distinguished sequences of completely join-irreducible elements which we prove specialize to $τ$-exceptional sequences in the algebra setting.
Catalan numbers, parking functions, permutahedra and noncommutative Hilbert schemes

We find an explicit $S_n$-equivariant bijection between the integral points in a certain zonotope in $\mathbb{R}^n$, combinatorially equivalent to the permutahedron, and the set of $m$-parking functions of length $n$. This bijection restricts to a bijection between the regular $S_n$-orbits and $(m,n)$-Dyck paths, the number of which is given by the Fuss-Catalan number $A_{n}(m,1)$. Our motivation came from studying tilting bundles on noncommutative Hilbert schemes. As a side result we use these tilting bundles to construct a semi-orthogonal decomposition of the derived category of noncommutative Hilbert schemes.
Fans and polytopes in tilting theory I: Foundations
For a finite dimensional algebra $A$ over a field $k$, the 2-term silting complexes of $A$ gives a simplicial complex $Δ(A)$ called the $g$-simplicial complex. We give tilting theoretic interpretations of the $h$-vectors and Dehn-Sommerville equations of $Δ(A)$. Using $g$-vectors of 2-term silting complexes, $Δ(A)$ gives a nonsingular fan $Σ(A)$ in the real Grothendieck group $K_0(\mathsf{proj} A)_{\mathbb{R}}$ called the $g$-fan. We give several basic properties of $Σ(A)$ including sign-coherence, sign decomposition, idempotent reductions, Jasso reductions, pairwise positivity and a connection with Newton polytopes of $A$-modules. Moreover, $Σ(A)$ gives a (possibly infinite and non-convex) polytope $P(A)$ in $K_0(\mathsf{proj} A)_{\mathbb{R}}$ called the $g$-polytope of $A$. We call $A$ $g$-convex if $P(A)$ is convex. In this case, we show that it is a reflexive polytope, and that the dual polytope is given by the 2-term simple minded collections of $A$. There are precisely 7 convex $g$-polyogons up to isomorphism. We give a classification of algebras whose $g$-polytopes are smooth Fano. We study $g$-fans and $g$-polytopes of two important classes of algebras. We show that the $g$-fan of a classical or generalized preprojective algebra is given by the Coxeter fan. It is $g$-convex if and only if it is of type $A$ or $B$, and in this case, its $g$-polytope is the dual polytope of the short root polytope. Moreover we classify Brauer graph algebras which are $g$-convex, and describe their $g$-polytopes as the root polytopes of type $A$ or $C$.
Triangulations of Flow Polytopes, Ample Framings, and Gentle Algebras
Published • View PublicationBIB
The cone of nonnegative flows for a directed acyclic graph (DAG) is known to admit regular unimodular triangulations induced by framings of the DAG. These triangulations restrict to triangulations of the flow polytope for strength one flows, which are called DKK triangulations. For a special class of framings called ample framings, these triangulations of the flow cone project to a complete fan. We characterize the DAGs that admit ample framings, and we enumerate the number of ample framings for a fixed DAG. We establish a connection between maximal simplices in DKK triangulations and $τ$-tilting posets for certain gentle algebras, which allows us to impose a poset structure on the dual graph of any DKK triangulation for an amply framed DAG. Using this connection, we are able to prove that for full DAGs, i.e., those DAGs with inner vertices having in-degree and out-degree equal to two, the flow polytopes are Gorenstein and have unimodal Ehrhart $h^\ast$-polynomials.

On support $τ$-tilting graphs of gentle algebras
Published in Journal of Algebra Volume 628(2023), 189-211 • View PublicationBIB
Let $A$ be a finite-dimensional gentle algebra over an algebraically closed field. We investigate the combinatorial properties of support $τ$-tilting graph of $A$. In particular, it is proved that the support $τ$-tilting graph of $A$ is connected and has the so-called reachable-in-face property. This property was conjectured by Fomin and Zelevinsky for exchange graphs of cluster algebras which was recently confirmed by Cao and Li.

Bongartz completion via $c$-vectors
Published • View PublicationBIB
In the present paper, we first give a characterization for Bongartz completion in $τ$-tilting theory via $c$-vectors. Motivated by this characterization, we give the definition of Bongartz completion in cluster algebras using $c$-vectors. Then we prove the existence and uniqueness of Bongartz completion in cluster algebras. We also prove that Bongartz completion admits certain commutativity. We give two applications for Bongartz completion in cluster algebras. As the first application, we prove the full subquiver of the exchange quiver (or known as oriented exchange graph) of a cluster algebra $\mathcal A$ whose vertices consist of seeds of $\mathcal A$ containing particular cluster variables is isomorphic to the exchange quiver of another cluster algebra. As the second application, we prove that in a cluster Poisson algebra $\mathcal X_\bullet$, each cluster Poisson seed (up to seed equivalence) of $\mathcal X_\bullet$ is uniquely determined by its negative cluster Poisson variables.

The two higher Stasheff-Tamari orders are equal
Published • View PublicationBIB
The set of triangulations of a cyclic polytope possesses two a priori different partial orders, known as the higher Stasheff-Tamari orders. The first of these orders was introduced by Kapranov and Voevodsky, while the second order was introduced by Edelman and Reiner, who also conjectured the two to coincide in 1996. In this paper we prove their conjecture, thereby substantially increasing our understanding of these orders. This result also has ramifications in the representation theory of algebras, as established in previous work of the author. Indeed, it means that the two corresponding orders on tilting modules, cluster-tilting objects and their maximal chains are equal for the higher Auslander algebras of type $A$.

Positive cluster complexes and $τ$-tilting simplicial complexes of cluster-tilted algebras of finite type
Published • View PublicationBIB
In this study, we consider the positive cluster complex, a full subcomplex of a cluster complex the vertices of which are all non-initial cluster variables. In particular, we provide a formula for the difference in face vectors of positive cluster complexes caused by a mutation for finite type. Moreover, we explicitly describe specific positive cluster complexes of finite type and calculate their face vectors. We also provide a method to compute the face vector of an arbitrary positive cluster complex of finite type using these results. Furthermore, we apply our results to the $τ$-tilting theory of cluster-tilted algebras of finite representation type using the correspondence between clusters and support $τ$-tilting modules.
