Secret sharing on large girth graphs

We investigate graph based secret sharing schemes and its information ratio, also called complexity, measuring the maximal amount of information the vertices has to store. It was conjectured that in large girth graphs, where the interaction between far away nodes is restricted to a single path, this ratio is bounded. This conjecture was supported by several result, most notably by a result of Csirmaz and Ligeti saying that the complexity of graphs with girth at least six and no neighboring high degree vertices is strictly below 2. In this paper we refute the above conjecture. First, a family of $d$-regular graphs is defined iteratively such that the complexity of these graphs is the largest possible $(d+1)/2$ allowed by Stinson's bound. This part extends earlier results of van Dijk and Blundo et al, and uses the so-called entropy method. Second, using combinatorial arguments, we show that this family contains graphs with arbitrary large girth. In particular, we obtain the following purely combinatorial result, which might be interesting on its own: there are $d$-regular graphs with arbitrary large girth such that any fractional edge-cover by stars (or by complete multipartite graphs) must cover some vertex $(d+1)/2$ times.
A Ramsey Theorem for Multiposets
In the parlance of relational structures, the Finite Ramsey Theorem states that the class of all finite chains has the Ramsey property. A classical result of J. Nešetřil and V. Rödl claims that the class of all finite posets with a linear extension has the Ramsey property. In 2010 M. Sokić proved that the class of all finite structures consisting of several linear orders has the Ramsey property. This was followed by a 2017 result of S. Solecki and M. Zhao that the class of all finite posets with several linear extensions has the Ramsey property. Using the categorical reinterpretation of the Ramsey property in this paper we prove a common generalization of all these results. We consider multiposets to be structures consisting of several partial orders and several linear orders. We allow partial orders to extend each other in an arbitrary but fixed way, and require that every partial order is extended by at least one of the linear orders. We then show that the class of all finite multiposets conforming to a fixed template has the Ramsey property.

A graph is called $t$-tough if the removal of any vertex set $S$ that disconnects the graph leaves at most $|S|/t$ components. The toughness of a graph is the largest $t$ for which the graph is $t$-tough. A graph is minimally $t$-tough if the toughness of the graph is $t$ and the deletion of any edge from the graph decreases the toughness. The complexity class DP is the set of all languages that can be expressed as the intersection of a language in NP and a language in coNP. In this paper, we prove that recognizing minimally $t$-tough graphs is DP-complete for any positive rational number $t$. We introduce a new notion called weighted toughness, which has a key role in our proof.
Finite Ramsey degrees and Fraïssé expansions with the Ramsey property
By a result of Zucker, every Fraïssé structure $\bf F$ for which the elements of $\mathrm{Age}(\bf F)$ have finite Ramsey degrees admits a Fraïssé precompact expansion $\bf F^{*}$ whose age $\mathrm{Age}(\bf F^{*})$ has the Ramsey property. While the original method uses dynamics in spaces of ultrafilters, the purpose of the present short note is to provide a different proof, based on classical tools from Fraïssé theory.

Suppose that for each n >= 0 we have a representation $M_n$ of the symmetric group S_n. Such sequences arise in a wide variety of contexts, and often exhibit uniformity in some way. We prove a number of general results along these lines in this paper: our prototypical theorem states that if $M_n$ can be given a suitable module structure over a twisted commutative algebra then the sequence $M_n$ follows a predictable pattern. We phrase these results precisely in the language of Hilbert series (or Poincaré series, or formal characters) of modules over tca's.
A geometric approach to counting norms in cyclic extensions of function fields

In this paper we prove an explicit version of a function field analogue of a classical result of Odoni about norms in number fields in the case of a cyclic Galois extensions. In the particular case of a quadratic extension, we recover the result of Bary-Soroker, Smilanski, and Wolf which deals with finding asymptotics for a function field version on sums of two squares, improved upon by Gorodetsky , and reproved by the author in his Ph.D thesis using the method of this paper. The main tool is a twisted Grothendieck Lefschetz trace formula, inspired by the work of Church, Farb and Ellenberg on representation stability and asymptotic for point counts on varieties. Using a combinatorial description of the cohomology we obtain a precise quantitative result which works in the $q^n\rightarrow \infty$ regime, and a new type of homological stability phenomena, which arises from the computation of certain inner products of representations.
Tutte Polynomials of Symmetric Hyperplane Arrangements
Originally in 1954 the Tutte polynomial was a bivariate polynomial associated to a graph in order to enumerate the colorings of this graph and of its dual graph at the same time. However the Tutte polynomial reveals more of the internal structure of a graph, and contains even other specializations from other sciences like the Jones polynomial in Knot theory, the partition function of the Pott model in statistical physics, and the reliability polynomial in network theory. In this article, we study the Tutte polynomial associated to more general objects which are the arrangements of hyperplanes. Indeed determining the Tutte polynomial of a graph is equivalent to determining the Tutte polynomial of a special hyperplane arrangement called graphic arrangement. In 2007 Ardila computed the Tutte polynomials of the hyperplane arrangements associated to the classical Weyl groups, and the characteristic polynomials of the Catalan arrangements. The charateristic polynomial is also a specialization of the Tutte polynomial. In 2012 Seo computed the characteristic polynomials of the Shi threshold arrangements, and in 2017 Song computed the characteristic polynomials of the $\mathcal{I}_n$ arrangements in the plane and in the space. We aim to bring a more general result by introducing a wider class of hyperplane arrangements which is the set of symmetric hyperplane arrangements. We compute the Tutte polynomial of a symmetric hyperplane arrangement, and, as examples of application, we deduce the Tutte polynomials of the Catalan, the Shi threshold, and the $\mathcal{I}_n$ arrangements.

We prove the orbifold version of Zvonkine's $r$-ELSV formula in two special cases: the case of $r=2$ (complete $3$-cycles) for any genus $g\geq 0$ and the case of any $r\geq 1$ for genus $g=0$.
Minimizing the Cost of Team Exploration

A group of mobile agents is given a task to explore an edge-weighted graph $G$, i.e., every vertex of $G$ has to be visited by at least one agent. There is no centralized unit to coordinate their actions, but they can freely communicate with each other. The goal is to construct a deterministic strategy which allows agents to complete their task optimally. In this paper we are interested in a cost-optimal strategy, where the cost is understood as the total distance traversed by agents coupled with the cost of invoking them. Two graph classes are analyzed, rings and trees, in the off-line and on-line setting, i.e., when a structure of a graph is known and not known to agents in advance. We present algorithms that compute the optimal solutions for a given ring and tree of order $n$, in $O(n)$ time units. For rings in the on-line setting, we give the $2$-competitive algorithm and prove the lower bound of $3/2$ for the competitive ratio for any on-line strategy. For every strategy for trees in the on-line setting, we prove the competitive ratio to be no less than $2$, which can be achieved by the $DFS$ algorithm.
Operations preserving equivalence relations
In 2014, Cégielski, Grigorieff and Guessarian characterized unary self-maps on the set $\mathbb{Z}$ of integers which preserve all congruences of the additive group. In this note, we propose a shorter and straigthforward proof. We replace this result in the frame of universal algebra.
Asymptotics of the spectral radius for directed Chung-Lu random graphs with community structure
The spectral radius of the adjacency matrix can impact both algorithmic efficiency as well as the stability of solutions to an underlying dynamical process. Although much research has considered the distribution of the spectral radius for undirected random graph models, as symmetric adjacency matrices are amenable to spectral analysis, very little work has focused on directed graphs. Consequently, we provide novel concentration results for the spectral radius of the directed Chung-Lu random graph model. We emphasize that our concentration results are applicable both asymptotically and to networks of finite size. Subsequently, we extend our concentration results to a generalization of the directed Chung-Lu model that allows for community structure.

Let $t_{i,j}$ be the coefficient of $x^iy^j$ in the Tutte polynomial $T(G;x,y)$ of a connected bridgeless and loopless graph $G$ with order $n$ and size $m$. It is trivial that $t_{0,m-n+1}=1$ and $t_{n-1,0}=1$. In this paper, we obtain expressions of another eight extreme coefficients $t_{i,j}$'s with $(i,j)=(0,m-n)$,$(0,m-n-1)$,$(n-2,0)$,$(n-3,0)$,$(1,m-n)$,$(1,m-n-1)$,$(n-2,1)$ and $(n-3,1)$ in terms of small substructures of $G$. Among them, the former four can be obtained by using coefficients of the highest, second highest and third highest terms of chromatic or flow polynomials, and vice versa. We also discuss their duality property and their specializations to extreme coefficients of the Jones polynomial.
On Ryser's conjecture for t-intersecting and degree-bounded hypergraphs
A famous conjecture (usually called Ryser's conjecture) that appeared in the
Ph.D thesis of his student, J.~R.~Henderson [15], states that for an $r$-uniform $r$-partite hypergraph $\mathcal{H}$, the inequality $τ(\mathcal{H})\le(r-1)\cdot ν(\mathcal{H})$ always holds.
This conjecture is widely open, except in the case of $r=2$, when it is equivalent to K\H onig's theorem [18], and in the case of $r=3$, which was proved by Aharoni in 2001 [3].
Here we study some special cases of Ryser's conjecture. First of all the most studied special case is when $\mathcal{H}$ is intersecting. Even for this special case, not too much is known: this conjecture is proved only for $r\le 5$ in [10,21]. For $r>5$ it is also widely open.
Generalizing the conjecture for intersecting hypergraphs, we conjecture the following. If an $r$-uniform $r$-partite hypergraph $\mathcal{H}$ is $t$-intersecting (i.e., every two hyperedges meet in at least $t<r$ vertices), then $τ(\mathcal{H})\le r-t$. We prove this conjecture for the case $t> r/4$.
Gyárfás [10] showed that Ryser's conjecture for intersecting hypergraphs is equivalent to saying that the vertices of an $r$-edge-colored complete graph can be covered by $r-1$ monochromatic components.
Motivated by this formulation, we examine what fraction of the vertices can be covered by $r-1$ monochromatic components of \emph{different} colors in an $r$-edge-colored complete graph. We prove a sharp bound for this problem.
Finally we prove Ryser's conjecture for the very special case when the maximum degree of the hypergraph is two.

Nakajima introduced a $t$-deformation of $q$-characters, $(q,t)$-characters for short, and their twisted multiplication through the geometry of quiver varieties. The Nakajima $(q,t)$-characters of Kirillov-Reshetikhin modules satisfy a $t$-deformed $T$-system. The $T$-system is a discrete dynamical system that can be interpreted as a mutation relation in a cluster algebra in two different ways, depending on the choice of direction of evolution. In this paper, we show that the Nakajima $t$-deformed $T$-system of type $A_r$ forms a quantum mutation relation in a quantization of exactly one of the cluster algebra structures attached to the $T$-system.

We count the number of distinct (scattered) subwords occurring in the base-b expansion of the non-negative integers. More precisely, we consider the sequence $(S_b(n))_{n\ge 0}$ counting the number of positive entries on each row of a generalization of the Pascal triangle to binomial coefficients of base-$b$ expansions. By using a convenient tree structure, we provide recurrence relations for $(S_b(n))_{n\ge 0}$ leading to the $b$-regularity of the latter sequence. Then we deduce the asymptotics of the summatory function of the sequence $(S_b(n))_{n\ge 0}$.

A generalized crank ($k$-crank) for $k$-colored partitions is introduced. Following the work of Andrews-Lewis and Ji-Zhao, we derive two results for this newly defined $k$-crank. Namely, we first obtain some inequalities between the $k$-crank counts $M_{k}(r,m,n)$ for $m=2,3$ and $4$, then we prove the positivity of symmetrized even $k$-crank moments weighted by the parity for $k=2$ and $3$. We conclude with several remarks on furthering the study initiated here.
Affine maps between quadratic assignment polytopes and subgraph isomorphism polytopes

We consider two polytopes. The quadratic assignment polytope $QAP(n)$ is the convex hull of the set of tensors $x\otimes x$, $x \in P_n$, where $P_n$ is the set of $n\times n$ permutation matrices. The second polytope is defined as follows. For every permutation of vertices of the complete graph $K_n$ we consider appropriate $\binom{n}{2} \times \binom{n}{2}$ permutation matrix of the edges of $K_n$. The Young polytope $P((n-2,2))$ is the convex hull of all such matrices.
In 2009, S. Onn showed that the subgraph isomorphism problem can be reduced to optimization both over $QAP(n)$ and over $P((n-2,2))$. He also posed the question whether $QAP(n)$ and $P((n-2,2))$, having $n!$ vertices each, are isomorphic. We show that $QAP(n)$ and $P((n-2,2))$ are not isomorphic. Also, we show that $QAP(n)$ is a face of $P((2n-2,2))$, but $P((n-2,2))$ is a projection of $QAP(n)$.
On the regularity of edge ideal of graphs
Let $G$ be a graph with $n$ vertices, $S=\mathbb{K}[x_1,\dots,x_n]$ be the polynomial ring in $n$ variables over a field $\mathbb{K}$ and $I(G)$ denote the edge ideal of $G$. For every collection $\mathcal{H}$ of connected graphs with $K_2\in \mathcal{H}$, we introduce the notions of $\ind-match_{\mathcal{H}}(G)$ and $\min-match_{\mathcal{H}}(G)$. It will be proved that the inequalities $\ind-match_{\{K_2, C_5\}}(G)\leq{\rm reg}(S/I(G))\leq\min-match_{\{K_2, C_5\}}(G)$ are true. Moreover, we show that if $G$ is a Cohen--Macaulay graph with girth at least five, then ${\rm reg}(S/I(G))=\ind-match_{\{K_2, C_5\}}(G)$. Furthermore, we prove that if $G$ is a paw--free and doubly Cohen--Macaulay graph, then ${\rm reg}(S/I(G))=\ind-match_{\{K_2, C_5\}}(G)$ if and only if every connected component of $G$ is either a complete graph or a $5$-cycle graph. Among other results, we show that for every doubly Cohen--Macaulay simplicial complex, the equality ${\rm reg}(\mathbb{K}[Δ])={\rm dim}(\mathbb{K}[Δ])$ holds.

Let $G$ be a simple graph. A total dominator coloring of $G$, is a proper coloring of the vertices of $G$ in which each vertex of the graph is adjacent to every vertex of some color class. The total dominator chromatic (TDC) number $χ_d^t(G)$ of $G$, is the minimum number of colors among all total dominator coloring of $G$. The neighbourhood corona of two graphs $G_1$ and $G_2$ is denoted by $G_1 \star G_2$ and is the graph obtained by taking one copy of $G_1$ and $|V(G_1)|$ copies of $G_2$, and joining the neighbours of the $i$th vertex of $G_1$ to every vertex in the $i$th copy of $G_2$. In this paper, we study the total dominator chromatic number of the neighbourhood of two graphs and investigate the total dominator chromatic number of $r$-gluing of two graphs. Stability (bondage number) of total dominator chromatic number of $G$ is the minimum number of vertices (edges) of $G$ whose removal changes the TDC-number of $G$. We study the stability and bondage number of certatin graphs.
