An Improved Lower Bound for $n$-Brinkhuis $k$-Triples
Let $s_n$ be the number of words consisting of the ternary alphabet consisting of the digits 0, 1, and 2 such that no subword (or factor) is a square (a word concatenated with itself, e.g., $11$, $1212$, or $102102$). From computational evidence, $s_n$ grows exponentially at a rate of about $1.317277^n$. While known upper bounds are already relatively close to the conjectured rate, effective lower bounds are much more difficult to obtain. In this paper, we construct a $54$-Brinkhuis $952$-triple, which leads to an improved lower bound on the number of $n$-letter ternary squarefree words: $952^{n/53} \approx 1.1381531^n$.
Arrangements of ideal type
In 2006 Sommers and Tymoczko defined so called arrangements of ideal type A_I stemming from ideals I in the set of positive roots of a reduced root system. They showed in a case by case argument that A_I is free if the root system is of classical type or G_2 and conjectured that this is also the case for all types. This was established only recently in a uniform manner by Abe, Barakat, Cuntz, Hoge and Terao. The set of non-zero exponents of the free arrangement A_I is given by the dual of the height partition of the roots in the complement of I in the set of positive roots, generalizing the Shapiro-Steinberg-Kostant theorem.
Our first aim in this paper is to investigate a stronger freeness property of the A_I. We show that all A_I are inductively free, with the possible exception of some cases in type E_8.
In the same paper, Sommers and Tymoczko define a Poincaré polynomial I(t) associated with each ideal I which generalizes the Poincaré polynomial W(t) for the underlying Weyl group W. Solomon showed that W(t) satisfies a product decomposition depending on the exponents of W for any Coxeter group W. Sommers and Tymoczko showed in a case by case analysis in type A, B and C, and some small rank exceptional types that a similar factorization property holds for the Poincaré polynomials I(t) generalizing the formula of Solomon for W(t). They conjectured that their multiplicative formula for I(t) holds in all types. Here we show that this conjecture holds inductively in almost all instances.

We review product form blocking measures in the general framework of nearest neighbor asymmetric one dimensional misanthrope processes. This class includes exclusion, zero range, bricklayers, and many other models. We characterize the cases when such measures exist in infinite volume, and when finite boundaries need to be added. By looking at inter-particle distances, we extend the construction to some 0-1 valued particle systems e.g., q-ASEP and the Katz-Lebowitz-Spohn process, even outside the misanthrope class. Along the way we provide a full ergodic decomposition of the product blocking measure into components that are characterized by a non-trivial conserved quantity. Substituting in simple exclusion and zero range has an interesting consequence: a purely probabilistic proof of the Jacobi triple product, a famous identity that mostly occurs in number theory and the combinatorics of partitions. Surprisingly, here it follows very naturally from the exclusion - zero range correspondence.
Total dominator chromatic number of some operations on a graph
Let $G$ be a simple graph. A total dominator coloring of $G$ is a proper coloring of the vertices of $G$ in which each vertex of the graph is adjacent to every vertex of some color class. The total dominator chromatic number $χ_d^t(G)$ of $G$ is the minimum number of colors among all total dominator coloring of $G$. In this paper, we examine the effects on $χ_d^t(G)$ when $G$ is modified by operations on vertex and edge of $G$.

Not all simple looking degree sequence problems are easy

Degree sequence (DS) problems are around for at least hundred twenty years, and with the advent of network science, more and more complicated, structured DS problems were invented. Interestingly enough all those problems so far are computationally easy. It is clear, however, that we will find soon computationally hard DS problems. In this paper we want to find such hard DS problems with relatively simple definition.
For a vertex $v$ in the simple graph $G$ denote $d_i(v)$ the number of vertices at distance exactly $i$ from $v$. Then $d_1(v)$ is the usual degree of vertex $v.$ The vector $\mathbf{d}^2(G)=( (d_1(v_1), d_2(v_1)), \ldots,$ $(d_1(v_n), d_2(v_n))$ is the {\bf second order degree sequence} of the graph $G$. In this note we show that the problem to decide whether a sequence of natural numbers $((i_1,j_1),\ldots (i_n,j_n))$ is a second order degree sequence of a simple undirected graph $G$ is strongly NP-complete. Then we will discuss some further NP-complete DS problems.
Multicolour Ramsey numbers of paths and even cycles

We prove new upper bounds on the multicolour Ramsey numbers of paths and even cycles. It is well known that $(k-1)n+o(n)\leq R_k(P_n)\leq R_k(C_n)\leq kn+o(n)$. The upper bound was recently improved by Sárközy who showed that $R_k(C_n)\leq\left(k-\frac{k}{16k^3+1}\right)n+o(n)$. Here we show $R_k(C_n) \leq (k-\frac14)n +o(n)$, obtaining the first improvement to the coefficient of the linear term by an absolute constant.
Torus link homology and the nabla operator

In recent work, Elias and Hogancamp develop a recurrence for the Poincaré series of the triply graded Hochschild homology of certain links, one of which is the $(n,n)$ torus link. In this case, Elias and Hogancamp give a combinatorial formula for this homology that is reminiscent of the combinatorics of the modified Macdonald polynomial eigenoperator $\nabla$. We give a combinatorial formula for the homologies of all links considered by Elias and Hogancamp. Our first formula is not easily computable, so we show how to transform it into a computable version. Finally, we conjecture a direct relationship between the $(n,n)$ torus link case of our formula and the symmetric function $\nabla p_{1^n}$.

This paper investigates the critical group of a faithful representation of a finite group. It computes the order of the critical group in terms of the character values, and gives some restrictions on its subgroup structure. It also computes the precise structure of the critical group both for the regular representation of any finite group, and for the reflection representation of the symmetric group.
Existence of sublattice points in lattice polygons
We state the formula for the critical number of vertices of a convex lattice polygon that guarantees that the polygon contains at least one point of a given sublattice and give a partial proof of the formula. We show that the proof can be reduced to finding upper bounds on the number of vertices in certain classes of polygons. To obtain these bounds, we establish inequalities relating the number of edges of a broken line and the coordinates of its endpoints within a suitable class of broken lines.

The critical group of a finite graph is an abelian group defined by the Smith normal form of the Laplacian. We determine the the critical groups of the Peisert graphs, a certain family of strongly regular graphs similar to, but different from, the Paley graphs. It is further shown thatthe adjacency matrices of the two graphs defined over a field of order $p^2$ with $p\equiv 3\pmod 4$ are similar over the $\ell$-local integers for every prime $\ell$. Consequently, each such pair of graphs provides an example where all the corresponding generalized adjacency matrices are both cospectral and equivalent in the sense of Smith normal form.

We find a simple, closed formula for the proportion of vertices which are $k$-protected in all unlabeled rooted plane trees on $n$ vertices. We also find that, as $n$ goes to infinity, the average rank of a random vertex in a tree of size $n$ approaches 0.727649, and the average rank of the root of a tree of size $n$ approaches 1.62297.
Twisted Coxeter elements and Folded AR-quivers via Dynkin diagram automorphisms:II
As a continuation of the previous paper, we find a combinatorial interpretation of Dorey's rule for type $C_n$ via twisted Auslander-Reiten quivers (AR-quivers) of type $D_{n+1}$, which are combinatorial AR-quivers related to certain Dynkin diagram automorphisms. Combinatorial properties of twisted AR-quivers are useful to understand not only Dorey's rule but also other notions in the representation theory of the quantum affine algebra $U_q'(C_n^{(1)})$ such as denominator formulas. In addition, unlike twisted adapted classes of type $A_{2n-1}$ in the previous paper, we show twisted AR-quivers of type $D_{n+1}$ consist of the cluster point called twisted adapted cluster point. Hence, by introducing new combinatorial objects called twisted Dynkin quivers of type $D_{n+1}$, we give one to one correspondences between twisted Coxeter elements, twisted adapted classes and twisted AR-quivers.
The structure of the minimum size supertail of a subspace partition
Let $V=V(n,q)$ denote the vector space of dimension $n$ over the finite field with $q$ elements. A subspace partition ${\mathcal P}$ of $V$ is a collection of nontrivial subspaces of $V$ such that each nonzero vector of $V$ is in exactly one subspace of ${\mathcal P}$. For any integer $d$, the $d$-supertail of ${\mathcal P}$ is the set of subspaces in ${\mathcal P}$ of dimension less than $d$, and it is denoted by $ST$. Let $σ_q(n,t)$ denote the minimum number of subspaces in any subspace partition of $V$ in which the largest subspace has dimension $t$. It was shown by Heden et al. that $|ST|\geq σ_q(d,t)$, where $t$ is the largest dimension of a subspace in $ST$. In this paper, we show that if $|ST|=σ_q(d,t)$, then the union of all the subspaces in $ST$ constitutes a subspace under certain conditions.

The Fibonacci cube of dimension n, denoted as $Γ$ n , is the subgraph of n-cube Q n induced by vertices with no consecutive 1's. In this short note we prove that asymptotically all vertices of $Γ$ n are covered by a maximum set of disjoint subgraphs isomorphic to Q k , answering an open problem proposed in [2].
Matroid Filtrations and Computational Persistent Homology
This technical report introduces a novel approach to efficient computation in homological algebra over fields, with particular emphasis on computing the persistent homology of a filtered topological cell complex. The algorithms here presented rely on a novel relationship between discrete Morse theory, matroid theory, and classical matrix factorizations. We provide background, detail the algorithms, and benchmark the software implementation in the Eirene package.

We investigate the tropical analogues of totally positive and totally nonnegative matrices. These arise when considering the images by the nonarchimedean valuation of the corresponding classes of matrices over a real nonarchimedean valued field, like the field of real Puiseux series. We show that the nonarchimedean valuation sends the totally positive matrices precisely to the Monge matrices. This leads to explicit polyhedral representations of the tropical analogues of totally positive and totally nonnegative matrices. We also show that tropical totally nonnegative matrices with a finite permanent can be factorized in terms of elementary matrices. We finally determine the eigenvalues of tropical totally nonnegative matrices, and relate them with the eigenvalues of totally nonnegative matrices over nonarchimedean fields.

In a previous work, the first and third authors studied a random knot model for all two-bridge knots using billiard table diagrams. Here we present a closed formula for the distribution of the crossing numbers of such random knots. We also show that the probability of any given knot appearing in this model decays to zero at an exponential rate as the length of the billiard table goes to infinity. This confirms a conjecture from the previous work.

We present an exact formula for the ordinary generating series of the simple paths between any two vertices of a graph. Our formula involves the adjacency matrix of the connected induced subgraphs and remains valid on weighted and directed graphs. As a particular case, we obtain a relation linking the Hamiltonian paths and cycles of a graph to its dominating connected sets.
