In $\mathcal{N}=4$ SYM with $U(N)$ gauge symmetry, the multiplicity of half-BPS states with fixed dimension can be labelled by Young diagrams and can be distinguished using conserved charges corresponding to Casimirs of $U(N)$. The information theoretic study of LLM geometries and superstars in the dual $AdS_5 \times S^5$ background has raised a number of questions about the distinguishability of Young diagrams when a finite set of Casimirs are known. Using Schur-Weyl duality relations between unitary groups and symmetric groups, these questions translate into structural questions about the centres of symmetric group algebras. We obtain analytic and computational results about these structural properties and related Shannon entropies, and generate associated number sequences. A characterization of Young diagrams in terms of content distribution functions relates these number sequences to diophantine equations. These content distribution functions can be visualized as connected, segmented, open strings in content space.
An aperiodic tile with edge-to-edge orientational matching rules

We present a single, connected tile which can tile the plane but only non-periodically. The tile is hexagonal with edge markings, which impose simple rules as to how adjacent tiles are allowed to meet across edges. The first of these rules is a standard matching rule, that certain decorations match across edges. The second condition is a new type of matching rule, which allows tiles to meet only when certain decorations in a particular orientation are given the opposite charge. This forces the tiles to form a hierarchy of triangles, following a central idea of the Socolar--Taylor tilings. However, the new edge-to-edge orientational matching rule forces this structure in a very different way, which allows for a surprisingly simple proof of aperiodicity. We show that the hull of all tilings satisfying our rules is uniquely ergodic and that almost all tilings in the hull belong to a minimal core of tilings generated by substitution. Identifying tilings which are charge-flips of each other, these tilings are shown to have pure point dynamical spectrum and a regular model set structure.

We conjecture an explicit positive combinatorial formula for the expansion of unicellular LLT polynomials in the elementary symmetric basis. This is an analogue of the Shareshian-Wachs conjecture and previously studied by Panova and the author in 2018. We show that the conjecture for unicellular LLT polynomials implies a similar formula for vertical-strip LLT polynomials.
We prove positivity in the elementary basis in for the class of graphs called `melting lollipops' previously considered by Huh, Nam and Yoo. This is done by proving a curious relationship between a generalization of charge and orientations of unit-interval graphs.
We also provide short bijective proofs of Lee's three-term recurrences for unicellular LLT polynomials and we show that these recurrences are enough to generate all unicellular LLT polynomials associated with abelian area sequences.
Stable Cluster Variables
Richard Eager and Sebastian Franco introduced a change of basis transformation on the F-polynomials of Fomin and Zelevinsky, corresponding to rewriting them in the basis given by fractional brane charges rather than quiver gauge groups. This transformation seems to display a surprising stabilization property, apparently causing the first few terms of the polynomials at each step of the mutation sequence to coincide. Eager and Franco conjecture that this transformation will always cause the polynomials to converge to a formal power series as the number of mutations goes to infinity, at least for quivers possessing certain symmetries and along periodic mutation sequences respecting such symmetries. In this paper, we verify this convergence in the case of the Kronecker and Conifold quivers. We also investigate convergence in the $F_0$ quiver. We provide a combinatorial interpretation for the stable cluster variables in each appropriate case.

We give a purely combinatorial proof of the positivity of the stabilized forms of the generalized exponents associated to each classical root system. In finite type A_{n-1}, we rederive the description of the generalized exponents in terms of crystal graphs without using the combinatorics of semistandard tableaux or the charge statistic. In finite type C_n, we obtain a combinatorial description of the generalized exponents based on the so-called distinguished vertices in crystals of type A_{2n-1}, which we also connect to symplectic King tableaux. This gives a combinatorial proof of the positivity of Lusztig t-analogues associated to zero weight spaces in the irreducible representations of symplectic Lie algebras. We also present three applications of our combinatorial formula, and discuss some implications to relating two type C branching rules. Our methods are expected to extend to the orthogonal types.
Vehicle Routing with Drones
We introduce a package service model where trucks as well as drones can deliver packages. Drones can travel on trucks or fly; but while flying, drones can only carry one package at a time and have to return to a truck to charge after each delivery. We present a heuristic algorithm to solve the problem of finding a good schedule for all drones and trucks. The algorithm is based on two nested local searches, thus the definition of suitable neighbourhoods of solutions is crucial for the algorithm. Empirical tests show that our algorithm performs significantly better than a natural Greedy algorithm. Moreover, the savings compared to solutions without drones turn out to be substantial, suggesting that delivery systems might considerably benefit from using drones in addition to trucks.
Holomorphic primary fields in free CFT4 and Calabi-Yau orbifolds

Counting formulae for general primary fields in free four dimensional conformal field theories of scalars, vectors and matrices are derived. These are specialised to count primaries which obey extremality conditions defined in terms of the dimensions and left or right spins (i.e. in terms of relations between the charges under the Cartan subgroup of $SO(4,2)$). The construction of primary fields for scalar field theory is mapped to a problem of determining multi-variable polynomials subject to a system of symmetry and differential constraints. For the extremal primaries, we give a construction in terms of holomorphic polynomial functions on permutation orbifolds, which are shown to be Calabi-Yau spaces.

We generalize a map by S. Mason regarding two combinatorial models for key polynomials, in a way that accounts for the major index.
We also define similar variants of this map, that regards alternative models for the modified Macdonald polynomials at $t=0$, thus partially answer a question by J. Haglund.
These maps imply certain uniqueness property regarding inversion-- and coinversion-free fillings, which allows us to generalize the notion of charge to a non-symmetric setting, thus answering a question by A. Lascoux. The analogous question in the symmetric setting proves a conjecture by K. Nelson.
Interactions between interleaving holes in a sea of unit rhombi

Consider a family of collinear, equilateral triangular holes of any even side length lying within a sea of unit rhombi. The results presented below show that as the distance between the holes grows large, the interaction between them may be approximated, up to a multiplicative constant, by taking the exponential of the negative of the electrostatic energy of the system obtained by viewing the holes as a set of point charges, each with a signed magnitude given by a certain statistic. Furthermore it is shown that the interaction between a family of left pointing collinear triangular holes and a free boundary may be approximated (again up to some multiplicative constant) by taking the exponential of the negative of the electrostatic energy of the system obtained by considering the holes as a set of point charges and the boundary a straight equipotential conductor. These two differing systems of point charges can be related via the method of image charges, a well-known physical law that also surfaces in the following mathematical analysis of enumeration formulas that count tilings of certain regions of the plane by unit rhombi.
Positivity of affine charge
The branching of (k-1)-Schur functions into k-Schur functions was given by Lapointe, Lam, Morse and Shimozono as chains in a poset on k-shapes. The k-Schur functions are the parameterless case of a more general family of symmetric functions over Q(t), conjectured to satisfy a k-branching formula given by weights on the k-shape poset. A concept of a (co)charge on a k-tableau was defined by Lapointe and Pinto. Although it is not manifestly positive, they prove it is compatible with the k-shape poset for standard k-tableau and the positivity follows. Morse introduced a manifestly positive notion of affine (co)charge on k-tableaux and conjectured that it matches the statistic of Lapointe-Pinto. Here we prove her conjecture and the positivity of k-(co)charge for semi-standard tableaux follows.
Weighted Hurwitz numbers and hypergeometric $τ$-functions: an overview

This is an overview of recent results on the use of 2D Toda $τ$-functions as generating functions for multiparametric families of weighted Hurwitz numbers. The Bose-Fermi equivalence composed with the characteristic map provides an isomorphism between the zero charge sector of the Fermionic Fock space and the direct sum of the centers of the group algebra of the symmetric groups $S_n$. Specializing the fermionic formula to the case of diagonal group elements gives $τ$-functions of hypergeometric type, for which the expansion over products of Schur functions is diagonal, with coefficients of {\em content product} type. The corresponding abelian group action on the centre of the $S_n$ group algebra is determined by forming symmetric functions multiplicatively from a weight generating function $G(z)$ and evaluating on the Jucys-Murphy elements of the group algebra. The resulting central elements act diagonally on the basis of orthogonal idempotents and the eigenvalues $r^{G(z)}_λ$ are the {\em content product} coefficients appearing in the double Schur function expansion. Both the geometrical meaning of weighted Hurwitz numbers, as weighted sums over $n$-sheeted branched coverings, and the combinatorial one, as weighted enumeration of paths in the Cayley graph of $S_n$ generated by transpositions follow from expansion of the Cauchy-Littlewood generating functions over dual pairs of bases of the algebra of symmetric functions. The coefficients in the resulting $τ$-function expansion over products of power sum symmetric functions are the weighted Hurwitz numbers. Replacement of the Cauchy-Littlewood generating function by that for Macdonald polynomials provides $(q,t)$-deformations that yield generating functions for quantum weighted Hurwitz numbers.
Exact solution of the $2d$ dimer model: Corner free energy, correlation functions and combinatorics

In this work, some classical results of the pfaffian theory of the dimer model based on the work of Kasteleyn, Fisher and Temperley are introduced in a fermionic framework. Then we shall detail the bosonic formulation of the model {\it via} the so-called height mapping and the nature of boundary conditions is unravelled. The complete and detailed fermionic solution of the dimer model on the square lattice with an arbitrary number of monomers is presented, and finite size effect analysis is performed to study surface and corner effects, leading to the extrapolation of the central charge of the model. The solution allows for exact calculations of monomer and dimer correlation functions in the discrete level and the scaling behavior can be inferred in order to find the set of scaling dimensions and compare to the bosonic theory which predict particular features concerning corner behaviors. Finally, some combinatorial and numerical properties of partition functions with boundary monomers are discussed, proved and checked with enumeration algorithms.
On the Schur expansion of Hall-Littlewood and related polynomials via Yamanouchi words

This paper uses the theory of dual equivalence graphs to give explicit Schur expansions for several families of symmetric functions. We begin by giving a combinatorial definition of the modified Macdonald polynomials and modified Hall-Littlewood polynomials indexed by any diagram $δ\subset {\mathbb Z} \times {\mathbb Z}$, written as $\widetilde H_δ(X;q,t)$ and $\widetilde H_δ(X;0,t)$, respectively. We then give an explicit Schur expansion of $\widetilde H_δ(X;0,t)$ as a sum over a subset of the Yamanouchi words, as opposed to the expansion using the charge statistic given in 1978 by Lascoux and Schüztenberger. We further define the symmetric function $R_{γ,δ}(X)$ as a refinement of $\widetilde H_δ(X;0,t)$ and similarly describe its Schur expansion. We then analyze $R_{γ,δ}(X)$ to determine the leading term of its Schur expansion. We also provide a conjecture towards the Schur expansion of $\widetilde H_δ(X;q,t)$. To gain these results, we use a construction from the 2007 work of Sami Assaf to associate each Macdonald polynomial with a signed colored graph $\mathcal{H}_δ$. In the case where a subgraph of $\mathcal{H}_δ$ is a dual equivalence graph, we provide the Schur expansion of its associated symmetric function, yielding several corollaries.
Unified bijections for planar hypermaps with general cycle-length constraints

We present a general bijective approach to planar hypermaps with two main results. First we obtain unified bijections for all classes of maps or hypermaps defined by face-degree constraints and girth constraints. To any such class we associate bijectively a class of plane trees characterized by local constraints. This unifies and greatly generalizes several bijections for maps and hypermaps. Second, we present yet another level of generalization of the bijective approach by considering classes of maps with non-uniform girth constraints. More precisely, we consider "well-charged maps", which are maps with an assignment of "charges" (real numbers) on vertices and faces, with the constraints that the length of any cycle of the map is at least equal to the sum of the charges of the vertices and faces enclosed by the cycle. We obtain a bijection between charged hypermaps and a class of plane trees characterized by local constraints.
Frame patterns in n-cycles
In this paper, we study the distribution of the number of occurrences of the simplest frame pattern, called the $μ$ pattern, in $n$-cycles. Given an $n$-cycle $C$, we say that a pair $\langle i,j \rangle$ matches the $μ$ pattern if $i < j$ and as we traverse around $C$ in a clockwise direction starting at $i$ and ending at $j$, we never encounter a $k$ with $i < k < j$. We say that $ \langle i,j \rangle$ is a nontrivial $μ$-match if $i+1 < j$. Also, an $n$-cycle $C$ is incontractible if there is no $i$ such that $i+1$ immediately follows $i$ in $C$.
We show that the number of incontractible $n$-cycles in the symmetric group $S_n$ is $D_{n-1}$, where $D_n$ is the number of derangements in $S_n$. Further, we prove that the number of $n$-cycles in $S_n$ with exactly $k$ $μ$-matches can be expressed as a linear combination of binomial coefficients of the form $\binom{n-1}{i}$ where $i \leq 2k+1$. We also show that the generating function $NTI_{n,μ}(q)$ of $q$ raised to the number of nontrivial $μ$-matches in $C$ over all incontractible $n$-cycles in $S_n$ is a new $q$-analogue of $D_{n-1}$, which is different from the $q$-analogues of the derangement numbers that have been studied by Garsia and Remmel and by Wachs. We show that there is a rather surprising connection between the charge statistic on permutations due to Lascoux and Schüzenberger and our polynomials in that the coefficient of the smallest power of $q$ in $NTI_{2k+1,μ}(q)$ is the number of permutations in $S_{2k+1}$ whose charge path is a Dyck path. Finally, we show that $NTI_{n,μ}(q)|_{q^{\binom{n-1}{2} -k}}$ and $NT_{n,μ}(q)|_{q^{\binom{n-1}{2} -k}}$ are the number of partitions of $k$ for sufficiently large $n$.
Charge on tableaux and the poset of k-shapes

A poset on a certain class of partitions known as k-shapes was recently introduced to provide a combinatorial rule for the expansion of a (k-1)-Schur functions into k-Schur functions at t=1. The main ingredient in this construction was a bijection, which we call the weak bijection, that associates to a k-tableau a pair made out of a (k-1)-tableau and a path in the poset of k-shapes. We define here a concept of charge on k-tableaux (which conjecturally gives a combinatorial interpretation for the expansion coefficients of Hall-Littlewood polynomials into k-Schur functions), and show that it is compatible in the standard case with the weak bijection. In particular, we obtain that the usual charge of a standard tableau of size n is equal to the sum of the charges of its corresponding paths in the poset of k-shapes, for k=2,3...n.
Accurate lower bounds on two-dimensional constraint capacities from corner transfer matrices

We analyse the capacity of several two-dimensional constraint families - the exclusion, colouring, parity and charge model families. Using Baxter's corner transfer matrix formalism combined with the corner transfer matrix renormalisation group method of Nishino and Okunishi, we calculate very tight lower bounds and estimates on the growth rate of these models. Our results strongly improve previous known lower bounds, and lead to the surprising conjecture that the capacity of the even and charge(3) constraints are identical.
Counting Plane Graphs: Cross-Graph Charging Schemes

We study cross-graph charging schemes for graphs drawn in the plane. These are charging schemes where charge is moved across vertices of different graphs. Such methods have been recently applied to obtain various properties of triangulations that are embedded over a fixed set of points in the plane. We show how this method can be generalized to obtain results for various other types of graphs that are embedded in the plane. Specifically, we obtain a new bound of $O^*(187.53^N)$ (where the $O^*()$ notation hides polynomial factors) for the maximum number of crossing-free straight-edge graphs that can be embedded over any specific set of $N$ points in the plane (improving upon the previous best upper bound $207.85^N$ in Hoffmann et al.). We also derive upper bounds for numbers of several other types of plane graphs (such as connected and bi-connected plane graphs), and obtain various bounds on expected vertex-degrees in graphs that are uniformly chosen from the set of all crossing-free straight-edge graphs that can be embedded over a specific point set.
We then show how to apply the cross-graph charging-scheme method for graphs that allow certain types of crossings. Specifically, we consider graphs with no set of $k$ pairwise-crossing edges (more commonly known as $k$-quasi-planar graphs). For $k=3$ and $k=4$, we prove that, for any set $S$ of $N$ points in the plane, the number of graphs that have a straight-edge $k$-quasi-planar embedding over $S$ is only exponential in $N$.

The q-deformed Fock spaces of higher levels were introduced by Jimbo-Misra-Miwa-Okado. Uglov defined a canonical bases in q-deformed Fock spaces of higher levels. Leclerc-Thibon showed a product theorem in q-deformed Fock spaces of level one. The product theorem is regarded as a formal $q$-analogue of the tensor product theorem of level one. In this paper, we show a higher level analogue of Leclerc-Thibon product theorem under a suitable multi charge condition.
Wilf Equivalence for the Charge Statistic
Savage and Sagan have recently defined a notion of st-Wilf equivalence for any permutation statistic st and any two sets of permutations $Π$ and $Π'$. In this paper we give a thorough investigation of st-Wilf equivalence for the charge statistic on permutations and use a bijection between the charge statistic and the major index to prove a conjecture of Dokos, Dwyer, Johnson, Sagan and Selsor regarding powers of 2 and the major index.
