We introduce, characterise and provide a combinatorial interpretation for the so-called $q$-Jacobi-Stirling numbers. This study is motivated by their key role in the (reciprocal) expansion of any power of a second order $q$-differential operator having the $q$-classical polynomials as eigenfunctions in terms of other even order operators, which we explicitly construct in this work. The results here obtained can be viewed as the $q$-version of those given by Everitt {\it et al.} and by the first author, whilst the combinatorics of this new set of numbers is a $q$-version of the Jacobi-Stirling numbers given by Gelineau and the second author.

Let $X$ be a list of vectors that is totally unimodular. In a previous article the author proved that every real-valued function on the set of interior lattice points of the zonotope defined by $X$ can be extended to a function on the whole zonotope of the form $p(D)B_X$ in a unique way, where $p(D)$ is a differential operator that is contained in the so-called internal $\Pcal$-space. In this paper we construct an explicit solution to this interpolation problem in terms of Todd operators. As a corollary we obtain a slight generalisation of the Khovanskii-Pukhlikov formula that relates the volume and the number of integer points in a smooth lattice polytope.

Let k be an algebraically closed field of characteristic 0. Musson and vandenBergh classified primitive ideals for rings of torus invariant differential operators. This classification applies in particular to subquotients of localized extended Weyl algebras where it can be made explicit in terms of convex geometry. We recall these result and then turn to the corresponding primitive quotients and study their Goldie ranks. We prove that the primitive quotients fall into finitely many families whose Goldie ranks are given by a common quasi-polynomial and then realize these quasi-polynomials as Ehrhart quasi-polynomials arising from convex geometry.

We construct a family of pairwise commuting operators such that the Jack symmetric functions of infinitely many variables $x_1,x_2,...$ are their eigenfunctions. These operators are defined as limits at $N\to\infty$ of renormalised Sekiguchi-Debiard operators acting on symmetric polynomials in the variables $x_1,...,x_N$. They are differential operators in terms of the power sum variables $p_n=x_1^n+x_2^n+...$ and we compute their symbols by using the Jack reproducing kernel. Our result yields a hierarchy of commuting Hamiltonians for the quantum Calogero-Sutherland model with infinite number of bosonic particles in terms of the collective variables of the model. Our result also yields explicit shift operators for the Jack symmetric functions.

We construct a family of pairwise commuting operators such that the Macdonald symmetric functions of infinitely many variables $x_1,x_2,...$ and of two parameters $q,t$ are their eigenfunctions. These operators are defined as limits at $N\to\infty$ of renormalised Macdonald operators acting on symmetric polynomials in the variables $x_1,...,x_N$. They are differential operators in terms of the power sum variables $p_n=x_1^n+x_2^n+...$ and we compute their symbols by using the Macdonald reproducing kernel. We express these symbols in terms of the Hall-Littlewood symmetric functions of the variables $x_1,x_2,...$. Our result also yields elementary step operators for the Macdonald symmetric functions.

The classical Hurwitz numbers of degree n together with the Hurwitz numbers of the seamed surfaces of degree n give rise to the Klein topological field theory. We extend this construction to the Hurwitz numbers of all degrees at once. The corresponding Cardy-Frobenius algebra is induced by arbitrary Young diagrams and arbitrary bipartite graphs. It turns out to be isomorphic to the algebra of differential operators from arXiv:1210.6955 which serves a model for open-closed string theory. The operator associated with the Young diagram of the transposition of two elements coincides with the cut-and-join operator which gives rise to relations for the classical Hurwitz numbers. We prove that the operators corresponding to arbitrary Young diagrams and bipartite graphs also give rise to relations for the Hurwitz numbers.

Let $X$ be a totally unimodular list of vectors in some lattice. Let $B_X$ be the box spline defined by $X$. Its support is the zonotope $Z(X)$. We show that any real-valued function defined on the set of lattice points in the interior of $Z(X)$ can be extended to a function on $Z(X)$ of the form $p(D)B_X$ in a unique way, where $p(D)$ is a differential operator that is contained in the so-called internal $\Pcal$-space. This was conjectured by Olga Holtz and Amos Ron. We also point out connections between this interpolation problem and matroid theory, including a deletion-contraction decomposition.

We prove that the modules of differential operators of order 2 on the classical Coxeter arrangements are free by exhibiting bases. For this purpose, we use Cauchy-Sylvester's theorem on compound determinants and Saito-Holm's criterion. In the case type $A$, we apply Cauchy-Sylvester's theorem on compound determinants to Vandermond determinant. By using the Schur polynomials, we define operators which form a part of a basis of modules of differential operators on the classical Coxeter arrangements of type $A$. In the cases of type $B$ and type $D$, the proofs go similarly to the case of type $A$ with some adjustments of operators and determinants.

The Jack polynomials P_λ^{(α)} at α=-(k+1)/(r-1) indexed by certain (k,r,N)-admissible partitions are known to span an ideal I^{(k,r)}_N of the space of symmetric functions in N variables. The ideal I^{(k,r)}_N is invariant under the action of certain differential operators which include half the Virasoro algebra. Moreover, the Jack polynomials in I^{(k,r)}_N admit clusters of size at most k: they vanish when k+1 of their variables are identified, and they do not vanish when only k of them are identified. We generalize most of these properties to superspace using orthogonal eigenfunctions of the supersymmetric extension of the trigonometric Calogero-Moser-Sutherland model known as Jack superpolynomials. In particular, we show that the Jack superpolynomials P_Λ^{(α)} at α=-(k+1)/(r-1) indexed by certain (k,r,N)-admissible superpartitions span an ideal {\mathcal I}^{(k,r)}_N of the space of symmetric polynomials in N commuting variables and N anticommuting variables. We prove that the ideal {\mathcal I}^{(k,r)}_N is stable with respect to the action of the negative-half of the super-Virasoro algebra. In addition, we show that the Jack superpolynomials in {\mathcal I}^{(k,r)}_N vanish when k+1 of their commuting variables are equal, and conjecture that they do not vanish when only k of them are identified. This allows us to conclude that the standard Jack polynomials with prescribed symmetry should satisfy similar clustering properties. Finally, we conjecture that the elements of {\mathcal I}^{(k,2)}_N provide a basis for the subspace of symmetric superpolynomials in N variables that vanish when k+1 commuting variables are set equal to each other.

One of the landmarks of the modern theory of partial differential equations is the Malgrange- Ehrenpreis theorem that states that every non-zero linear partial differential operator with constant coefficients has a Green function (alias fundamental solution). In this short note I state the discrete analog, and give two proofs. The first one is Ehrenpreis- style, using duality, and the second one is constructive, using formal Laurent series.

Let A be a generic hyperplane arrangement composed of r hyperplanes in an n-dimensional vector space, and S the polynomial ring in n variables. We consider the S-submodule D(m)(A) of the nth Weyl algebra of homogeneous differential operators of order m preserving the defining ideal of A.
We prove that if n \geq 3, r > n,m > r - n + 1, then D(m)(A) is free (Holm's conjecture). Combining this with some results by Holm, we see that D(m)(A) is free unless n \geq 3, r > n,m < r - n + 1. In the remaining case, we construct a minimal free resolution of D(m)(A) by generalizing Yuzvinsky's construction for m = 1. In addition, we construct a minimal free resolution of the transpose of the m-jet module, which generalizes a result by Rose and Terao for m = 1.
Algebraic formulas for the coefficients of half-integral weight harmonic weak Maass forms

We prove that the coefficients of certain weight -1/2 harmonic Maass forms are traces of singular moduli for weak Maass forms. To prove this theorem, we construct a theta lift from spaces of weight -2 harmonic weak Maass forms to spaces of weight -1/2 vector-valued harmonic weak Maass forms on Mp_2(Z), a result which is of independent interest. We then prove a general theorem which guarantees (with bounded denominator) when such Maass singular moduli are algebraic. As an example of these results, we derive a formula for the partition function p(n) as a finite sum of algebraic numbers which lie in the usual discriminant -24n+1 ring class field. We indicate how these results extend to general weights. In particular, we illustrate how one can compute theta lifts for general weights by making use of the Kudla-Millson kernel and Maass differential operators.

We use a new method to study the Laplace-Beltrami type operator on the Fock space of symmetric functions, and as an example of our explicit computation we show that the Jack symmetric functions are the only family of eigenvectors of the differential operator. As applications of this explicit method we find a combinatorial formula for Jack symmetric functions and the Littlewood-Richardson coefficients in the Jack case. As further applications, we obtain a new determinantal formula for Jack symmetric functions. We also obtained a generalized raising operator formula for Jack symmetric functions, and a formula for the explicit action of Virasoro operators. Special cases of our formulas imply Mimachi-Yamada's result on Jack symmetric functions of rectangular shapes, as well as the explicit formula for Jack functions of two rows or two columns.

We establish a correspondence between Young diagrams and differential operators of infinitely many variables. These operators form a commutative associative algebra isomorphic to the algebra of the conjugated classes of finite permutations of the set of natural numbers. The Schur functions form a complete system of common eigenfunctions of these differential operators, and their eigenvalues are expressed through the characters of symmetric groups. The structure constants of the algebra are expressed through the Hurwitz numbers.
Linear differential equations on $\mathbb{P}^{1}$ and root systems
In this paper, we study the Euler transform on linear ordinary differential operators on $\mathbb{P}^{1}$. The spectral type is the tuple of integers which count the multiplicities of local formal solutions with the same leading terms. We compute the changes of spectral types under the action of the Euler transform and show that the changes of spectral types generate a transformation group of a $\mathbb{Z}$-lattice which is isomorphic to a quotient lattice of a Kac-Moody root lattice with the Weyl group as the transformation group.

The Laguerre symmetric functions introduced in the note are indexed by arbitrary partitions and depend on two continuous parameters. The top degree homogeneous component of every Laguerre symmetric function coincides with the Schur function with the same index. Thus, the Laguerre symmetric functions form a two-parameter family of inhomogeneous bases in the algebra of symmetric functions. These new symmetric functions are obtained from the N-variate symmetric polynomials of the same name by a procedure of analytic continuation. The Laguerre symmetric functions are eigenvectors of a second order differential operator, which depends on the same two parameters and serves as the infinitesimal generator of an infinite-dimensional diffusion process X(t). The process X(t) admits approximation by some jump processes related to one more new family of symmetric functions, the Meixner symmetric functions. In equilibrium, the process X(t) can be interpreted as a time-dependent point process on the punctured real line R\{0}, and the point configurations may be interpreted as doubly infinite collections of particles of two opposite charges with log-gas-type interaction. The dynamical correlation functions of the equilibrium process have determinantal form: they are given by minors of the so-called extended Whittaker kernel, introduced earlier in a paper by Borodin and the author.

Associated with the Davis-Januszkiewicz theory of small covers, this paper deals with the theory of 2-torus manifolds from the viewpoint of equivariant bordism. We define a differential operator on the "dual" algebra of the unoriented $G_n$-representation algebra introduced by Conner and Floyd, where $G_n=(\Z_2)^n$. With the help of $G_n$-colored graphs (or mod 2 GKM graphs), we may use this differential operator to give a very simple description of tom Dieck-Kosniowski-Stong localization theorem in the setting of 2-torus manifolds. We then apply this to study the $G_n$-equivariant unoriented bordism classification of $n$-dimensional 2-torus manifolds. We show that the $G_n$-equivariant unoriented bordism class of each $n$-dimensional 2-torus manifold contains an $n$-dimensional small cover as its representative, solving the conjecture posed in [19]. In addition, we also obtain that the graded noncommutative ring formed by the equivariant unoriented bordism classes of 2-torus manifolds of all possible dimensions is generated by the classes of all generalized real Bott manifolds (as special small covers over the products of simplices). This gives a strong connection between the computation of $G_n$-equivariant bordism groups or ring and the Davis-Januszkiewicz theory of small covers. As a computational application, with the help of computer, we completely determine the structure of the group formed by equivariant bordism classes of all 4-dimensional 2-torus manifolds. Finally, we give some essential relationships among 2-torus manifolds, coloring polynomials, colored simple convex polytopes, colored graphs.
Universal Algebras of Hurwitz Numbers

Random Walks on Strict Partitions

We consider a certain sequence of random walks. The state space of the n-th random walk is the set of all strict partitions of n (that is, partitions without equal parts).
We prove that, as n goes to infinity, these random walks converge to a continuous-time Markov process. The state space of this process is the infinite-dimensional simplex consisting of all nonincreasing infinite sequences of nonnegative numbers with sum less than or equal to one. The main result about the limit process is the expression of its the pre-generator as a formal second order differential operator in a polynomial algebra.
Of separate interest is the generalization of Kerov interlacing coordinates to the case of shifted Young diagrams.
