The Terwilliger algebra for the distance-regular graphs with valency three
In this paper, we discuss a family of highly regular graphs, said to be distance-regular. We are particularly interested in the distance-regular graphs with valency three. It is known that there exist exactly 13 such graphs. Let $Γ$ denote a distance-regular graph with vertex set $X$. For any vertex $x \in X$, the corresponding Terwilliger algebra $T=T(x)$ is generated by the adjacency algebra $M$ of $Γ$ and the dual adjacency algebra $M^*=M^*(x)$ of $Γ$ with respect to $x$. It is known that the algebra $T$ is semisimple. By construction, the vector space $V=\mathbb{C}^X$ is a module for $T$, said to be standard. In this paper we have the following goal. For each of the 13 distance-regular graphs $Γ$ with valency three, we will decompose the standard module $V$ into a direct sum of irreducible $T$-modules. Using this information, we will work out the dimension of $T$.
Explorations of Matroid Complexes
Motivated by Kontsevich's graph complexes, this paper gives a systematic study of matroid complexes. We construct deletion and contraction bicomplexes on the vector space spanned by matroid classes equipped with ground-set orientations, organizing the several naturally arising variants into a single unified framework. We show that direct sum and restriction-contraction make this space into a connected graded Hopf algebra extending Schmitt's matroid Hopf algebra, and use the resulting dg-algebra structure to prove broad acyclicity results. We compute the total, simple, loopless, regular, binary, and ternary matroid complexes through ground-set size $9$, and the connected quotient of the simple loopless regular complex through ground-set size $15$. These computations detect nontrivial homology and lead to a conjectural description in terms of odd-wheel matroids.

A Categorification of Subword Complexes and Its Hall Algebra
Bergeron and Ceballos defined a Hopf algebra structure on equivalence classes of subword complexes. We introduce a category of subword complexes, endow it with a proto-exact-like structure, and show that the corresponding dual Hall Hopf algebra is isomorphic to the algebra of Bergeron-Ceballos. We prove that the full subcategory of root-independent objects is proto-abelian in the sense of Dyckerhoff. We give a categorical lift of flips in subword complexes. We consider a version of a category of formal direct sums of subobjects for a root-independent subword complex and interpret it in terms of quivers. If the corresponding quiver is a tree, the category is endowed with a proto-exact structure. We show that its Hall algebra is isomorphic to the Hall algebra of the category of representations of this quiver over $\mathbb{F}_1$. Under certain conditions, a flip corresponds to changing a proto-exact structure while keeping the category the same up to isomorphism, which corresponds to a non-trivial automorphism of the Hall algebra. In type $A$, this leads to a realization of the nilpotent part of the universal enveloping algebra and its automorphisms.

Bollobás-type inequalities for subspaces via weight invariance
Let $V$ be an $n$-dimension real vector space with a direct sum decomposition $V = V_1 \oplus \cdots \oplus V_r$. Let $\mathcal{P} = \{(A_i, B_i) : i \in [m]\}$ be a skew Bollobás system of subspaces of $V$ such that each $i\in [m]$, $ A_i = \bigoplus_{k=1}^r (A_i \cap V_k)$ and $ B_i = \bigoplus_{k=1}^r (B_i \cap V_k)$. We prove that $$\sum_{i=1}^{m} \prod_{k=1}^{r} \left[ \binom{a_{i,k} + b_{i,k}}{a_{i,k}} (1 + a_{i,k} + b_{i,k})^{-1} \right] \leq 1,$$ where $a_{i,k} = \dim(A_i \cap V_k)$ and $b_{i,k} = \dim(B_i \cap V_k)$. This extends a recent result of Yue from set systems to finite dimensional subspaces. We then consider Tuza's theorem on weak Bollobás system for $d$-tuples. We give an alternative proof of the original set version of Tuza, and also establish its vector space analogue. Precisely, let $\mathcal{P} = \{(A_i^{(1)}, \ldots, A_i^{(d)}) : i \in [m]\}$ be a skew Bollobás system of $d$-tuples of subspaces of finite dimensional space $V$ with $a^{(\ell)}_i=\dim (A_i^{(\ell)})$. Then, for any positive real numbers $p_1, \ldots, p_d$ satisfying $p_1 + \cdots + p_d = 1$, we prove that $ \sum_{i=1}^{m} \prod_{\ell=1}^{d} p_{\ell}^{a_i^{(\ell)}} \leq 1. $

Infinite sequences via Lie algebra actions for oligomorphic groups
Many integer sequences arise as numbers of $G$-orbits on $\binom{X}{n}$ as $n$ varies, for a permutation group $G\subseteq \operatorname{Sym}(X)$. For finite $X$, Stanley proved that these finite sequences increase towards the middle using an action of the Lie algebra $\mathfrak{sl}_2(\mathbb{C})$. For infinite sets $X$, and hence infinite sequences, Cameron provided an argument for monotonicity. He first identifies orbits with a vector space basis of a certain commutative $k$-algebra $\mathsf{H}_{G,X}^{\star}$, called the orbit algebra. He then considers the operator, which forms the product with the constant $1$-function on $X$, and proves its injectivity. In this paper we generalize Stanley's approach to oligomorphic groups, and in particular extend Cameron's operator to a full $\mathfrak{sl}_2(\mathbb{C})$-action on $\mathsf{H}_{G,X}^{\star}$. We define for every oligomorphic permutation group $G\subseteq \operatorname{Sym}(X)$ the $X$-th tensor power $(k^r)^{\otimes X}$, generalizing work of Entova-Aizenbud. We show that this space carries natural commuting actions of $G$ and the Lie algebra $\mathfrak{gl}_r(k)$, the latter depending on a Harman--Snowden measure $μ$ on $G$. We then show that $\mathsf{H}_{G,X}^{\star}\subseteq (\mathbb{C}^2)^{\otimes X}$ can be decomposed into a direct sum of $\mathfrak{sl}_2(\mathbb{C})$-Verma modules, which gives monotonicity. We explain how our approach applies to Fibonacci numbers, Tribonacci numbers, etc. by constructing measures on products with $(\mathbb{Q},<)$.

Tautological classes for (n,n+1) torus knots
We construct an explicit isomorphism between the HOMFLY-PT homology of $(n,n+1)$ torus knots and the direct sum of hook isotypic components of the space of diagonal coinvariants. As a consequence, we compute the action of tautological classes in HOMFLY-PT homology of $(n,n+1)$ torus knots and prove that it extends to an action of the Lie algebra of Hamiltonian vector fields on the plane. We also compute the action of differentials $d_N$ in Rasmussen spectral sequences from HOMLFY-PT to $\mathfrak{gl}(N)$ homology of $(n,n+1)$ torus knots.

Upper Bounds on Covering Minima of Convex Bodies
We give two new upper bounds on the covering minima of convex bodies, depending on covering minima of certain projections and intersections with linear subspaces. We show one bound to be sharp for direct sums of two convex bodies, generalizing previous results on the covering radius and lattice width of direct sums. We apply our results to standard terminal simplices, reducing the gap between the upper and lower bounds in a conjecture of Gonzaléz Merino and Schymura (2017), which gives insight on a conjecture of Codenotti, Santos and Schymura (2021) on the maximal covering radius of a non-hollow lattice polytope.

Decompositions for Cyclic Groups with 3 Prime Factors
In this paper, we characterize the direct sum decompositions of the cyclic group $\mathbb{Z}_{(pqr)^2}$, where $p$, $q$, and $r$ are distinct primes. We show that if $A \oplus B = \mathbb{Z}_{(pqr)^2}$ with $|A| = |B| = pqr$, then Sands' conjecture fails to hold, in other words, neither $A$ nor $B$ is contained in a proper subgroup of $\mathbb{Z}_{(pqr)^2}$, if and only if the sets $A, B$ form a Szabó pair.

An equitable partition for the distance-regular graph of the bilinear forms
Published • View Publication • BIB
We consider a type of distance-regular graph $Γ=(X, \mathcal R)$ called a bilinear forms graph. We assume that the diameter $D$ of $Γ$ is at least $3$. Fix adjacent vertices $x,y \in X$. In our first main result, we introduce an equitable partition of $X$ that has $6D-2$ subsets and the following feature: for every subset in the equitable partition, the vertices in the subset are equidistant to $x$ and equidistant to $y$. This equitable partition is called the $(x,y)$-partition of $X$. By definition, the subconstituent algebra $T=T(x)$ is generated by the Bose-Mesner algebra of $Γ$ and the dual Bose-Mesner algebra of $Γ$ with respect to $x$. As we will see, for the $(x,y)$-partition of $X$ the characteristic vectors of the subsets form a basis for a $T$-module $U=U(x,y)$. In our second main result, we decompose $U$ into an orthogonal direct sum of irreducible $T$-modules. This sum has five summands: the primary $T$-module and four irreducible $T$-modules that have endpoint one. We show that every irreducible $T$-module with endpoint one is isomorphic to exactly one of the nonprimary summands.

Generalized Splines over $\mathbb{Z}$-Modules on Arbitrary Graphs
Published • View Publication • BIB
Let $R$ be a commutative ring with identity and $G$ a graph. An extending generalized spline on $G$ is a vertex labeling $f \in \prod_{v} M_v$, where for each edge $e=uv$ there exists an $R$-module $M_{uv}$ together with homomorphisms $ \varphi_u : M_u \to M_{uv}$ and $ \varphi_v : M_v \to M_{uv}$ such that $\varphi_u(f_u)=\varphi_v(f_v).$ Extending generalized splines are further generalizations for generalized splines. They can also be considered as generalized splines over modules. In this paper, we prove that some of the results for splines can be extended to generalized splines over modules $M_v=m_v\mathbb Z$ at each vertex $v$ and we define a method of a graph reduction based on graph operations on vertices and edges to produce an explicit $\mathbb{Z}$-module basis for generalized splines over modules. This corresponds to a sequence of surjective homomorphisms between the associated spline modules so that the space of splines decomposes as a direct sum of certain submodules.

Decompositions of Chow rings of direct sums of matroids
We prove two dual recursive decompositions as a graded $\underline{\mathrm{CH}}(M)\otimes \underline{\mathrm{CH}}(N)$-module of the Chow ring $\underline{\mathrm{CH}}(M\oplus N)$ of the direct sum of matroids. We use this to obtain a decomposition of $\underline{\mathrm{CH}}(M\oplus N)$ into irreducible $\underline{\mathrm{CH}}(M) \otimes \underline{\mathrm{CH}}(N)$-modules. The result implies a new recursive formula for the Eulerian numbers. Similarly, we find a recursive decomposition of the augmented Chow ring $\mathrm{CH}(M \oplus N)$ into $\mathrm{CH}(M)\otimes \mathrm{CH}(N)$-modules, generalizing some of the results of arXiv:2002.03341. We prove analogous decompositions of (augmented) Chow polynomials of weakly ranked posets in the sense of arXiv:2411.04070.

Combinatorial equivalence of separable elements in types $A$ and $B$
We study the combinatorial equivalence of separable elements in types $A$ and $B$. A bijection is constructed from the set of separable permutations in the symmetric group $S_{n+1}$ to the set of separable signed permutations in the hyperoctahedral group $B_n$. This bijection preserves descent statistics and induces a poset isomorphism under the left weak order. As a consequence, separable signed permutations are enumerated by the large Schröder numbers, and their descent polynomials are shown to be $γ$-positive. Building on a recursive characterization of separable signed permutations via direct sum and skew sum operations, we derive explicit product formulas for the rank generating functions of the principal upper and lower ideals of separable signed permutations under the left weak order.
Delsarte duality on subspaces and applications to rank-metric codes and q-matroids
We study the interplay between the lattice of F_{q^m}-subspaces and the lattice of F_{q^m}-subspaces of an F_{q^m}-vector space. Introducing notions of weight and defect relative to an F_q-subspace, we analyze the sequence of maximum non-zero defects. We establish a correspondence between subspaces of positive defect and their Delsarte duals, enabling explicit characterizations of the associated sequences of maximum non-zero defects. Our framework unifies several classes of subspaces studied in finite geometry and connects them to linear rank-metric codes by providing a new geometric interpretation of code duality. Building on these results, we characterize classes of rank-metric codes closed under duality, including MRD, near MRD, quasi-MRD, and a new family of (n, k)-MRD codes. Finally, we explore applications to q-matroids, by studying the problem of F_{q^m}-representability for direct sums of uniform q-matroids and describing their rank generating functions.

One-weight codes in the sum-rank metric
Published • View Publication • BIB
One-weight codes, in which all nonzero codewords share the same weight, form a highly structured class of linear codes with deep connections to finite geometry. While their classification is well understood in the Hamming and rank metrics - being equivalent to (direct sums of) simplex codes - the sum-rank metric presents a far more intricate landscape. In this work, we explore the geometry of one-weight sum-rank metric codes, focusing on three distinct classes. First, we introduce and classify \emph{constant rank-list} sum-rank codes, where each nonzero codeword has the same tuple of ranks, extending results from the rank-metric setting. Next, we investigate the more general \emph{constant rank-profile} codes, where, up to reordering, each nonzero codeword has the same tuple of ranks. Although a complete classification remains elusive, we present the first examples and partial structural results for this class. Finally, we consider one-weight codes that are also MSRD (Maximum Sum-Rank Distance) codes. For dimension two, constructions arise from partitions of scattered linear sets on projective lines. For dimension three, we connect their existence to that of special $2$-fold blocking sets in the projective plane, leading to new bounds and nonexistence results over certain fields.

Characterizations of certain matroids by maximizing valuative invariants
Published • View Publication • BIB
Luis Ferroni and Alex Fink recently introduced a polytope of all unlabeled matroids of rank $r$ on $n$ elements, and they showed that the vertices of this polytope come from matroids that can be characterized by maximizing a sequence of valuative invariants. We prove that a number of the matroids that they conjectured to yield vertices indeed do (these include cycle matroids of complete graphs, projective geometries, and Dowling geometries), and we give additional examples (including truncations of cycle matroids of complete graphs, Bose-Burton geometries, and binary and free spikes with tips). We prove a special case of a conjecture of Ferroni and Fink by showing that direct sums of uniform matroids yield vertices of their polytope, and we prove a similar result for direct sums whose components are in certain restricted classes of extremal matroids.

Divided difference operators for Hessenberg representations
The equivariant cohomology ring of a regular semisimple Hessenberg variety in type A is a free module over the equivariant cohomology ring of a point. When equipped with Tymoczko's dot action, it becomes a twisted representation of the symmetric group, and the character of this representation is given by the chromatic quasisymmetric function of an indifference graph. In this note, we use divided difference operators to decompose this representation as a direct sum of sub-representations in a way that categorifies the modular relation between chromatic quasisymmetric functions.

Semisimple algebras related to immaculate tableaux
Given a direct sum $A$ of full matrix algebras, if there is a combinatorial interpretation associated with both the dimension of $A$ and the dimensions of the irreducible $A$-modules, then this can be thought of as providing an analogue of the famous Frobenius-Young identity $n! = \sum_{λ\vdash n} ( f^λ )^{2}$ derived from the semisimple structure of the symmetric group algebra $\mathbb{C}S_{n}$, letting $f^λ$ denote the number of Young tableaux of partition shape $λ\vdash n$. By letting $g^α$ denote the number of standard immaculate tableaux of composition shape $α\vDash n$, we construct an algebra $\mathbb{C}\mathcal{I}_{n}$ with a semisimple structure such that $\dim \mathbb{C}\mathcal{I}_{n} = \sum_{α\vDash n} (g^α)^{2}$ and such that $\mathbb{C}\mathcal{I}_{n} $ contains an isomorphic copy of $\mathbb{C}S_{n}$. We bijectively prove a recurrence for $\dim \mathbb{C}\mathcal{I}_{n}$ so as to construct a basis of $\mathbb{C}\mathcal{I}_{n}$ indexed by permutation-like objects that we refer to as immacutations. We form a basis $\mathcal{B}_{n}$ of $\mathbb{C}\mathcal{I}_{n}$ such that $\mathbb{C} \mathcal{B}_n$ has the structure of a monoid algebra in such a way so that $\mathcal{B}_n$ is closed under the multiplicative operation of $\mathbb{C} \mathcal{I}_n$, yielding a monoid structure on the set of order-$n$ immacutations.

The nilpotent graph of a finite0-dimensional Lie algebra
Let $L$ be a finite-dimensional Lie algebra over a field $F$. In This paper we introduce the \emph{nilpotent graph} $Γ_\mathfrak{N}(L)$ as the graph whose vertices are the elements of $L \setminus \nil(L)$, where \[\nil(L) = \{x \in L \mid \langle x, y \rangle \text{ is nilpotent for all } y \in L\},\] and where two vertices $x, y$ are adjacent if the Lie subalgebra they generate is nilpotent. We give some characterizations of $\nil(L)$ and its connection with the hypercenter $Z^*(L)$, for example, they are equal when $F$ has characteristic zero. We prove that the nilpotentizer behaves well under direct sums, allowing a decomposition of $Γ_\mathfrak{N}(L)$ between components. The paper also investigates the structural and combinatorial properties of $Γ_\mathfrak{N}(L)$, including the conditions under which the graph is connected. We characterize the existence of strongly self-centralizing subalgebras in relation to connectivity and vertex isolation. Explicit computations are carried out for the algebra $\mathfrak{t}(2,\mathbb{F}_q)$, where $Γ_\mathfrak{N}(L)$ decomposes into $q+1$ components, each of size $q(q-1)$, forming a $(q^2-q-1)$-regular graph. We conclude with algorithms for constructing $Γ_\mathfrak{N}(L)$ in SageMath, and pose open problems concerning bipartiteness, regularity, and structural implications in higher dimensions over finite fields.

Bounds for Geometric rank in Terms of Subrank
For tensors of fixed order, we establish three types of upper bounds for the geometric rank in terms of the subrank. Firstly, we prove that, under a mild condition on the characteristic of the base field, the geometric rank of a tensor is bounded by a function in its subrank in some field extension of bounded degree. Secondly, we show that, over any algebraically closed field, the geometric rank of a tensor is bounded by a function in its subrank. Lastly, we prove that, for any order three tensor over an arbitrary field, its geometric rank is bounded by a quadratic polynomial in its subrank. Our results have several immediate but interesting implications: (1) We answer an open question posed by Kopparty, Moshkovitz and Zuiddam concerning the relation between the subrank and the geometric rank; (2) For order three tensors, we generalize the Biaggi-Chang- Draisma-Rupniewski (resp. Derksen-Makam-Zuiddam) theorem on the growth rate of the border subrank (resp. subrank), in an optimal way; (3) For order three tensors, we generalize the Biaggi- Draisma-Eggleston theorem on the stability of the subrank, from the real field to an arbitrary field; (4) We confirm the open problem raised by Derksen, Makam and Zuiddam on the maximality of the gap between the subrank of the direct sum and the sum of subranks; (5) We derive, for the first time, a de-bordering result for the border subrank and upper bounds for the partition rank and analytic rank in terms of the subrank; (6) We reprove a gap result for the subrank.

Construction of pre-and post-Lie algebras for stochastic PDEs
Published • View Publication • BIB
We give and study a construction of pre-Lie algebra structures on rooted trees whose edges and vertices are decorated, with a grafting product acting, through a map $φ$, both on the decoration of the created edge and on the vertex that holds the grafting. We show that this construction gives a pre-Lie algebra if, and only if, the map $φ$ satisfies a commutation relation, called tree-compatibility. We show how to extend this pre-Lie algebra structure to a post-Lie one by a semi-direct extension with another post-Lie algebra. We also define several constructions to obtain tree-compatible maps, and give examples, including a description of all tree-admissible maps when the space of decorations of the vertices is $2$-dimensional and the space of decorations of the edges is finite-dimensional. A particular example of such a construction is used by Bruned, Hairer and Zambotti for the study of stochastic partial differential equations: when no noise is involved, we show that the underlying tree-compatible map is the exponential of a simpler one and deduce an explicit isomorphism with a classical pre-Lie algebra of rooted trees; when a noise is involved, we obtain the underlying tree-compatible map as a direct sum. We also obtain with our formalism the post-Lie algebras described by Bruned and Katsetsiadis.
