The relation between alternating sign matrices and descending plane partitions: $n+3$ pairs of equivalent statistics

There is the same number of $n \times n$ alternating sign matrices (ASMs) as there is of descending plane partitions (DPPs) with parts no greater than $n$, but finding an explicit bijection is an open problem for about $40$ years now. So far, quadruples of statistics on ASMs and on DPPs that have the same joint distribution have been identified. We introduce extensions of ASMs and of DPPs along with $n+3$ statistics on each extension, and show that the two families of statistics have the same joint distribution. The ASM-DPP equinumerosity is obtained as an easy consequence by considering the $(-1)$-enumerations of these extended objects with respect to one pair of the $n+3$ pairs of statistics. One may speculate that the fact that these extensions might be necessary to have this significance increase in the number of statistics, as well as the involvement of signs when specializing to ASMs and DPPs may hint at the obstacles in finding an explicit bijection between ASMs and DPPs. One important tool for our proof is a multivariate generalization of the operator formula for the number of monotone triangles with prescribed bottom row that generalizes Schur functions.
Counting lattice paths by crossings and major index I: the corner-flipping bijections

We solve two problems regarding the enumeration of lattice paths in $\mathbb{Z}^2$ with steps $(1,1)$ and $(1,-1)$ with respect to the major index, defined as the sum of the positions of the valleys, and to the number of certain crossings. The first problem considers crossings of a single path with a fixed horizontal line. The second one counts pairs of paths with respect to the number of times they cross each other. Our proofs introduce lattice path bijections with convenient visual descriptions, and the answers are given by remarkably simple formulas involving $q$-binomial coefficients.

Guo-Niu Han [arXiv:2006.14070 [math.CO]] has introduced a new combinatorial object named standard puzzle. We use digraphs to show the relations between numbers in standard puzzles and propose a skeleton model. By this model, we solve the enumeration problem of over fifty thousand standard puzzle sequences. Most of them can be represented by classical numbers, such as Catalan numbers, double factorials, Secant numbers and so on. Also, we prove several identities in standard puzzle sequences.

We determine the asymptotics of the number of independent sets of size $\lfloor β2^{d-1} \rfloor$ in the discrete hypercube $Q_d = \{0,1\}^d$ for any fixed $β\in [0,1]$ as $d \to \infty$, extending a result of Galvin for $β\in [1-1/\sqrt{2},1]$. Moreover, we prove a multivariate local central limit theorem for structural features of independent sets in $Q_d$ drawn according to the hard core model at any fixed fugacity $λ>0$. In proving these results we develop several general tools for performing combinatorial enumeration using polymer models and the cluster expansion from statistical physics along with local central limit theorems.

Initiated by Davis, Nelson, Petersen and Tenner (2018), the enumerative study of pinnacle sets of permutations has attracted a fair amount of attention recently. In this article, we provide a recurrence that can be used to compute efficiently the number $|\mathfrak{S}_n(P)|$ of permutations of size $n$ with a given pinnacle set $P$, with arithmetic complexity $O(k^4 + k\log n)$ for $P$ of size $k$. A symbolic expression can also be computed in this way for pinnacle sets of fixed size. A weighted sum $q_n(P)$ of $|\mathfrak{S}_n(P)|$ proposed in Davis, Nelson, Petersen and Tenner (2018) seems to have a simple form, and a conjectural form is given recently by Flaque, Novelli and Thibon (2021+). We settle the problem by providing and proving an alternative form of $q_n(P)$, which has a strong combinatorial flavor. We also study admissible orderings of a given pinnacle set, first considered by Rusu (2020) and characterized by Rusu and Tenner (2021), and we give an efficient algorithm for their counting.

We find an asymptotic enumeration formula for the number of simple $r$-uniform hypergraphs with a given degree sequence, when the number of edges is sufficiently large. The formula is given in terms of the solution of a system of equations. We give sufficient conditions on the degree sequence which guarantee existence of a solution to this system. Furthermore, we solve the system and give an explicit asymptotic formula when the degree sequence is close to regular. This allows us to establish several properties of the degree sequence of a random $r$-uniform hypergraph with a given number of edges. More specifically, we compare the degree sequence of a random $r$-uniform hypergraph with a given number edges to certain models involving sequences of binomial or hypergeometric random variables conditioned on their sum.

Barely set-valued tableaux are a variant of Young tableaux in which one box contains two numbers as its entry. It has recently been discovered that there are product formulas enumerating certain classes of barely set-valued tableaux. We give some $q$-analogs of these product formulas by introducing a version of major index for these tableaux. We also give product formulas and $q$-analogs for barely set-valued plane partitions. Many of the results are stated in the generality of $P$-partitions that then specialize to particularly nice formulas for rectangles and minuscule posets. The proofs use several probability distributions on the set of order ideals of a poset, depending on the real parameter $q>0$, which we think could be of independent interest.
Enumeration of Switching Non-isomorphic Signed Wheels
Two signed graphs are called switching isomorphic to each other if one is isomorphic to a switching of the other. The wheel $W_n$ is the join of the cycle $C_n$ and a vertex. For $0 \leq p \leq n$, $ψ_{p}(n)$ is defined to be the number of switching non-isomorphic signed $W_n$ with exactly $p$ negative edges on $C_n$. The number of switching non-isomorphic signed $W_n$ is denoted by $ψ(n)$. In this paper, we compute the values of $ψ_{p}(n)$ for $p=0,1,2,3,4,n-4,n-3,n-2,n-1,n$ and of $ψ(n)$ for $n=4,5,...,10$. Our method of obtaining $ψ_{p}(n)$ not only count the switching non-isomorphic signed wheels but also generates them.

Let $T$ be a linear operator on an $\mathbb{F}_q$-vector space $V$ of dimension $n$. For any divisor $m$ of $n$, an $m$-dimensional subspace $W$ of $V$ is $T$-splitting if
$$ V =W\oplus TW\oplus \cdots \oplus T^{d-1}W, $$ where $d=n/m$. Let $σ(m,d;T)$ denote the number of $m$-dimensional $T$-splitting subspaces. Determining $σ(m,d;T)$ for an arbitrary operator $T$ is an open problem. This problem is closely related to another open problem on Krylov spaces. We discuss this connection and give explicit formulae for $σ(m,d;T)$ in the case where the invariant factors of $T$ satisfy certain degree conditions. A connection with another enumeration problem on polynomial matrices is also discussed.
Majority Dynamics: The Power of One

Consider $n=\ell+m$ individuals, where $\ell\le m$, with $\ell$ individuals holding an opinion $A$ and $m$ holding an opinion $B$. Suppose that the individuals communicate via an undirected network $G$, and in each time step, each individual updates her opinion according to a majority rule (that is, according to the opinion of the majority of the individuals she can communicate with in the network). This simple and well studied process is known as "majority dynamics in social networks". Here we consider the case where $G$ is a random network, sampled from the binomial model $\mathbb{G}(n,p)$, where $(\log n)^{-1/16}\le p\le 1-(\log n)^{-1/16}$. We show that for $n=\ell+m$ with $Δ=m-\ell\le(\log n)^{1/4}$, the above process terminates whp after three steps when a consensus is reached. Furthermore, we calculate the (asymptotically) correct probability for opinion $B$ to "win" and show it is \[Φ\bigg(\frac{pΔ\sqrt{2}}{\sqrt{πp(1-p)}}\bigg) + O(n^{-c}),\] where $Φ$ is the Gaussian CDF. This answers two conjectures of Tran and Vu and also a question raised by Berkowitz and Devlin.
The proof technique involves iterated degree revelation and analysis of the resulting degree-constrained random graph models via graph enumeration techniques of McKay and Wormald as well as Canfield, Greenhill, and McKay.
Friendly bisections of random graphs

Resolving a conjecture of Füredi from 1988, we prove that with high probability, the random graph $G(n,1/2)$ admits a friendly bisection of its vertex set, i.e., a partition of its vertex set into two parts whose sizes differ by at most one in which $n-o(n)$ vertices have at least as many neighbours in their own part as across. The engine of our proof is a new method to study stochastic processes driven by degree information in random graphs; this involves combining enumeration techniques with an abstract second moment argument.

Two operads are said to belong to the same Wilf class if they have the same generating series. We discuss possible Wilf classifications of non-symmetric operads with monomial relations. As a corollary, this would give the same classification for the operads with a finite Groebner basis.
Generally, there is no algorithm to decide whether two finitely presented operads belong to the same Wilf class. Still, we show that if an operad has a finite Groebner basis, then the monomial basis of the operad forms an unambiguous context-free language. Moreover, we discuss the deterministic grammar which defines the language. The generating series of the operad can be obtained as a result of an algorithmic elimination of variables from the algebraic system of equations defined by the Chomsky--Schutzenberger enumeration theorem. We then focus on the case of binary operads with a single relation. The approach is based on the results by Rowland on pattern avoidance in binary trees. We improve and refine Rowland's calculations and empirically confirm his conjecture. Here we use both the algebraic elimination and the direct calculation of formal power series from algebraic systems of equations. Finally, we discuss the connection of Wilf classes with algorithms for the Quillen homology of operads calculation.

In this paper, we address computational questions surrounding the enumeration of non-isomorphic André planes for any prime power order. We are particularly focused on providing a complete enumeration of all such planes for relatively small orders (up to 125), as well as developing computationally efficient ways to count the number of isomorphism classes for other orders where enumeration is infeasible. André planes of all dimensions over their kernel are considered.
Lexicographic Enumeration of Set Partitions
In this report, we summarize the set partition enumeration problems and thoroughly explain the algorithms used to solve them. These algorithms iterate through the partitions in lexicographic order and are easy to understand and implement in modern high-level programming languages, without recursive structures and jump logic. We show that they require linear space in respect to the set cardinality and advance the enumeration in constant amortized time. The methods discussed in this document are not novel. Our goal is to demonstrate the process of enumerating set partitions and highlight the ideas behind it. This work is an aid for learners approaching this enumeration problem and programmers undertaking the task of implementing it.
On the enumeration of plane bipolar posets and transversal structures

We show that plane bipolar posets (i.e., plane bipolar orientations with no transitive edge) and transversal structures can be set in correspondence to certain (weighted) models of quadrant walks, via suitable specializations of a bijection due to Kenyon, Miller, Sheffield and Wilson. We then derive exact and asymptotic counting results. In particular we prove (computationally and then bijectively) that the number of plane bipolar posets on $n+2$ vertices equals the number of plane permutations of size $n$. Regarding transversal structures, for each $v\geq 0$ we consider $t_n(v)$ the number of such structures with $n+4$ vertices and weight $v$ per quadrangular inner face (the case $v=0$ corresponds to having only triangular inner faces). We obtain a recurrence to compute $t_n(v)$, and an asymptotic formula that for $v=0$ gives $t_n(0)\sim c\ \!(27/2)^nn^{-1-π/\mathrm{arccos}(7/8)}$ for some $c>0$, which also ensures that the associated generating function is not D-finite.
Random generation and scaling limits of fixed genus factorizations into transpositions
We study the asymptotic behaviour of random factorizations of the $n$-cycle into transpositions of fixed genus $g>0$. They have a geometric interpretation as branched covers of the sphere and their enumeration as Hurwitz numbers was extensively studied in algebraic combinatorics and enumerative geometry. On the probabilistic side, several models and properties of permutation factorizations were studied in previous works, in particular minimal factorizations of cycles into transpositions (which corresponds to the case $g=0$ of this work).
Using the representation of factorizations via unicellular maps, we first exhibit an algorithm which samples an asymptotically uniform factorization of genus $g$ in linear time. In a second time, we code a factorization as a process of chords appearing one by one in the unit disk, and we prove the convergence (as $n\to\infty$) of the process associated with a uniform genus $g$ factorization of the $n$-cycle. The limit process can be explicitly constructed from a Brownian excursion. Finally, we establish the convergence of a natural genus process, coding the appearance of the successive genera in the factorization.

We work with lattice walks in $\mathbb{Z}^{r+1}$ using step set $\{\pm 1\}^{r+1}$ that finish with $x_{r+1} = 0$. We further impose conditions of avoiding backtracking (i.e. $[v,-v]$) and avoiding consecutive steps (i.e. $[v,v]$) each possibly combined with restricting to the half-space $x_{r+1} \geq 0$. We find in all cases the generating functions for such walks are algebraic and give explicit formulas for them. We also find polynomial recurrences for their coefficients. From the generating functions we find the asymptotic enumeration of each family of walks considered. The enumeration in special cases includes central binomial coefficients and Catalan numbers as well as relations to enumeration of another family of walks previously studied for which we provide bijection.

In this paper, we enumerate parallelogram polycubes according to several parameters. After establishing a relation between Multiple Zeta Function and the Dirichlet generating function of parallelogram polyominoes, we generalize it to the case of parallelogram polycubes. We also give an explicit formula and an ordinary generating function of parallelogram polycubes according to the width, length and depth, by characterizing its projections. Then, these results are generalized to polyhypercubes.
Algorithms for finding generalized minimum aberration designs

Statistical design of experiments is widely used in scientific and industrial investigations. A generalized minimum aberration (GMA) orthogonal array is optimum under the well-established, so-called GMA criterion, and such an array can extract as much information as possible at a fixed cost. Finding GMA arrays is an open (yet fundamental) problem in design of experiments because constructing such arrays becomes intractable as the number of runs and factors increase. We develop two directed enumeration algorithms that call the integer programming with isomorphism pruning algorithm of Margot (2007) for the purpose of finding GMA arrays. Our results include 16 GMA arrays that were not previously in the literature, along with documentation of the efficiencies that made the required calculations possible within a reasonable budget of computer time. We also validate heuristic algorithms against a GMA array catalog, by showing that they quickly output near GMA arrays, and then use the heuristics to find near GMA arrays when enumeration is computationally burdensome.
On the period collapse of a family of Ehrhart quasi-polynomials
A graph whose nodes have degree 1 or 3 is called a $\{1,3\}$-graph. Liu and Osserman associated a polytope to each $\{1,3\}$-graph and studied the Ehrhart quasi-polynomials of these polytopes. They showed that the vertices of these polytopes have coordinates in the set $\{0,\frac14,\frac12,1\}$, which implies that the period of their Ehrhart quasi-polynomials is either 1, 2, or 4. We show that the period of the Ehrhart quasi-polynomial of these polytopes is at most 2 if the graph is a tree or a cubic graph, and it is equal to 4 otherwise.
In the process of proving this theorem, several interesting combinatorial and geometric properties of these polytopes were uncovered, arising from the structure of their associated graphs. The tools developed here may find other applications in the study of Ehrhart quasi-polynomials and enumeration problems for other polytopes that arise from graphs. Additionally, we have identified some interesting connections with triangulations of 3-manifolds.
