We prove several identities expressing polynomials counting permutations by various descent statistics in terms of Eulerian polynomials, extending results of Stembridge, Petersen, and Brändén. Additionally, we find $q$-exponential generating functions for $q$-analogues of these descent statistic polynomials that also keep track of the inversion number or inverse major index. We also present identities relating several of these descent statistic polynomials to refinements of type B Eulerian polynomials and flag descent polynomials by the number of negative letters of a signed permutation. Our methods include permutation enumeration techniques involving noncommutative symmetric functions, Brändén's modified Foata-Strehl action, and a group action of Petersen on signed permutations. Notably, the modified Foata-Strehl action yields an analogous relation between Narayana polynomials and the joint distribution of the peak number and descent number over 231-avoiding permutations, which we also interpret in terms of binary trees and Dyck paths.

The Ehrhart polynomial of a lattice polytope $P$ encodes information about the number of integer lattice points in positive integral dilates of $P$. The $h^\ast$-polynomial of $P$ is the numerator polynomial of the generating function of its Ehrhart polynomial. A zonotope is any projection of a higher dimensional cube. We give a combinatorial description of the $h^\ast$-polynomial of a lattice zonotope in terms of refined descent statistics of permutations and prove that the $h^\ast$-polynomial of every lattice zonotope has only real roots and therefore unimodal coefficients. Furthermore, we present a closed formula for the $h^\ast$-polynomial of a zonotope in matroidal terms which is analogous to a result by Stanley (1991) on the Ehrhart polynomial. Our results hold not only for $h^\ast$-polynomials but carry over to general combinatorial positive valuations. Moreover, we give a complete description of the convex hull of all $h^\ast$-polynomials of zonotopes in a given dimension: it is a simplicial cone spanned by refined Eulerian polynomials.

We introduce and study s-lecture hall P-partitions which is a generalization of s-lecture hall partitions to labeled (weighted) posets. We provide generating function identities for s-lecture hall P-partitions that generalize identities obtained by Savage and Schuster for s-lecture hall partitions, and by Stanley for P-partitions. We also prove that the corresponding (P,s)-Eulerian polynomials are real-rooted for certain pairs (P,s), and speculate on unimodality properties of these polynomials.

In this paper, we mainly study the stability of iterated polynomials and linear transformations preserving the strong $q$-log-convexity of polynomials
Let $[T_{n,k}]_{n,k\geq0}$ be an array of nonnegative numbers. We give some criteria for the linear transformation $$y_n(q)=\sum_{k=0}^nT_{n,k}x_k(q)$$ preserving the strong $q$-log-convexity (resp. log-convexity). As applications, we derive that some linear transformations (for instance, the Stirling transformations of two kinds, the Jacobi-Stirling transformations of two kinds, the Legendre-Stirling transformations of two kinds, the central factorial transformations, and so on) preserve the strong $q$-log-convexity (resp. log-convexity) in a unified manner. In particular, we confirm a conjecture of Lin and Zeng, and extend some results of Chen {\it et al.}, and Zhu for strong $q$-log-convexity of polynomials, and some results of Liu and Wang for transformations preserving the log-convexity.
The stability property of iterated polynomials implies the $q$-log-convexity. By applying the method of interlacing of zeros, we also present two criteria for the stability of the iterated Sturm sequences and $q$-log-convexity of polynomials. As consequences, we get the stabilities of iterated Eulerian polynomials of type $A$ and $B$, and their $q$-analogs. In addition, we also prove that the generating functions of alternating runs of type $A$ and $B$, the longest alternating subsequence and up-down runs of permutations form a $q$-log-convex sequence, respectively.

A lattice polytope $\mathcal{P}$ is called reflexive if its dual $\mathcal{P}^\vee$ is a lattice polytope. The property that $\mathcal{P}$ is unimodularly equivalent to $\mathcal{P}^\vee$ does not hold in general, and in fact there are few examples of such polytopes. In this note, we introduce a new reflexive simplex $Q_n$ which has this property. Additionally, we show that $δ$-polynomalial of $Q_n$ is the Eulerian polynomial and show the existence of a regular, flag, unimodular triangulation.
Orbit Dirichlet series and multiset permutations

We study Dirichlet series enumerating orbits of Cartesian products of maps whose orbit distributions are modelled on the distributions of finite index subgroups of free abelian groups of finite rank. We interpret Euler factors of such orbit Dirichlet series in terms of generating polynomials for statistics on multiset permutations, viz. descent and major index, generalizing Carlitz's $q$-Eulerian polynomials.
We give two main applications of this combinatorial interpretation. Firstly, we establish local functional equations for the Euler factors of the orbit Dirichlet series under consideration. Secondly, we determine these (global) Dirichlet series' abscissae of convergence and establish some meromorphic continuation beyond these abscissae. As a corollary, we describe the asymptotics of the relevant orbit growth sequences. For Cartesian products of more than two maps we establish a natural boundary for meromorphic continuation. For products of two maps, we prove the existence of such a natural boundary subject to a combinatorial conjecture.

In this paper, we first present combinatorial proofs of a kind of expansions of the Eulerian polynomials of types A and B, and then we introduce Stirling permutations of the second kind. In particular, we count Stirling permutations of the second kind by their cycle ascent plateaus, fixed points and cycles.
A two-sided analogue of the Coxeter complex

For any Coxeter system $(W,S)$ of rank $n$, we introduce an abstract boolean complex (simplicial poset) of dimension $2n-1$ that contains the Coxeter complex as a relative subcomplex. Faces are indexed by triples $(I,w,J)$, where $I$ and $J$ are subsets of the set $S$ of simple generators, and $w$ is a minimal length representative for the parabolic double coset $W_I w W_J$. There is exactly one maximal face for each element of the group $W$. The complex is shellable and thin, which implies the complex is a sphere for the finite Coxeter groups. In this case, a natural refinement of the $h$-polynomial is given by the "two-sided" $W$-Eulerian polynomial, i.e., the generating function for the joint distribution of left and right descents in $W$.

Visontai conjectured in 2013 that the joint distribution of ascent and distinct nonzero value numbers on the set of subexcedant sequences is the same as that of descent and inverse descent numbers on the set of permutations. This conjecture has been proved by Aas in 2014, and the generating function of the corresponding bistatistics is the double Eulerian polynomial. Among the techniques used by Aas are the Möbius inversion formula and isomorphism of labeled rooted trees. In this paper we define a permutation code (that is, a bijection between permutations and subexcedant sequences) and show the more general result that two $5$-tuples of set-valued statistics on the set of permutations and on the set of subexcedant sequences, respectively, are equidistributed. In particular, these results give a bijective proof of Visontai's conjecture.
Colored Eulerian Polynomials and the Colored Permutohedron
This paper introduces a colored generalization of the Eulerian polynomials, denoted the $α$-colored Eulerian polynomials. We first compute these polynomials by taking the $h$-vector of the $α$-colored permutohedron, a colored analog of the permutohedron which we develop. We also arrive at the $α$-colored Eulerian polynomials combinatorially by defining a new notion of descent for colored permutations.
Linear transformations and strong $q$-log-concavity for certain combinatorial triangle
It is well-known that the binomial transformation preserves the log-concavity property and log-convexity property. Let $\binom{a+n}{b+k}$ be the binomial coefficients and $\binom{n,k}{j}$ be defined by $(b_0+b_1x+\cdots+b_kx^{k})^n:=\sum_{j=0}^{kn}\binom{n,k}{j}x^j,$ where the sequence $(b_i)_{0\leq i\leq k}$ is log-concave. In this paper, we prove that the linear transformation $$y_n(q)=\sum_{k=0}^n\binom{a+n}{b+k}x_k(q)$$ preserves the strong $q$-log-concavity property for any fixed nonnegative integers $a$ and $b$, which strengthens and gives a simple proof of results of Ehrenborg and Steingrimsson, and Wang, respectively, on linear transformations preserving the log-concavity property. We also show that the linear transformation $$y_n=\sum_{i=0}^{kn}\binom{n,k}{j}x_i$$ not only preserves the log-concavity property, but also preserves the log-convexity property, which extends the results of Ahmia and Belbachir about the $s$-triangle transformation preserving the log-convexity property and log-concavity property. Let $[A_{n,k}(q)]_{n, k\geq0}$ be an infinite lower triangular array of polynomials in $q$ with nonnegative coefficients satisfying the recurrence \begin{eqnarray*}\label{re} A_{n,k}(q)=f_{n,k}(q)\,A_{n-1,k-1}(q)+g_{n,k}(q)\,A_{n-1,k}(q)+h_{n,k}(q)\,A_{n-1,k+1}(q), \end{eqnarray*} for $n\geq 1$ and $k\geq 0$, where $A_{0,0}(q)=1$, $A_{0,k}(q)=A_{0,-1}(q)=0$ for $k>0$. We present criterions for the strong $q$-log-concavity of the sequences in each row of $[A_{n,k}(q)]_{n, k\geq0}$. As applications, we get the strong $q$-log-concavity or the log-concavity of the sequences in each row of many well-known triangular arrays, such as the Bell polynomials triangle, the Eulerian polynomials triangle and the Narayana polynomials triangle in a unified approach.

We find in particular the recurrence relation, Worpitzky formula and the generating function. We also find the probability distributions whose moments are Eulerian polynomials of type $A$, $B$ and $D$.

We investigate the arithmetic-geometric structure of the lecture hall cone \[ L_n \ := \ \left\{λ\in \mathbb{R}^n: \, 0\leq \frac{λ_1}{1}\leq \frac{λ_2}{2}\leq \frac{λ_3}{3}\leq \cdots \leq \frac{λ_n}{n}\right\} . \] We show that $L_n$ is isomorphic to the cone over the lattice pyramid of a reflexive simplex whose Ehrhart $h^*$-polynomial is given by the $(n-1)$st Eulerian polynomial, and prove that lecture hall cones admit regular, flag, unimodular triangulations. After explicitly describing the Hilbert basis for $L_n$, we conclude with observations and a conjecture regarding the structure of unimodular triangulations of $L_n$, including connections between enumerative and algebraic properties of $L_n$ and cones over unit cubes.

The descent polynomials of separable permutations and derangements are both demonstrated to be unimodal. Moreover, we prove that the $γ$-coefficients of the first are positive with an interpretation parallel to the classical Eulerian polynomial, while the second is spiral, a property stronger than unimodality. Furthermore, we conjecture that they are both real-rooted.

A family of symmetric functions associated with Stirling permutations
We present exponential generating function analogues to two classical identities involving the ordinary generating function of the complete homogeneous symmetric functions. After a suitable specialization the new identities reduce to identities involving the first and second order Eulerian polynomials. The study of these identities led us to consider a family of symmetric functions associated with a class of permutations introduced by Gessel and Stanley, known in the literature as Stirling permutations. In particular, we define certain type statistics on Stirling permutations that refine the statistics of descents, ascents and plateaux and we show that their refined versions are equidistributed, generalizing a result of Bóna. The definition of this family of symmetric functions extends to the generality of $r$-Stirling permutations. We discuss some occurrences of these symmetric functions in the cases of $r=1$ and $r=2$.

We consider the generating polynomial of the number of rooted trees on the set $\{1,2,\dots,n\}$ counted by the number of descending edges (a parent with a greater label than a child). This polynomial is an extension of the descent generating polynomial of the set of permutations of a totally ordered $n$-set, known as the Eulerian polynomial. We show how this extension shares some of the properties of the classical one. B. Drake proved that this polynomial factors completely over the integers. From his product formula it can be concluded that this polynomial has positive coefficients in the $γ$-basis and we show that a formula for these coefficients can also be derived. We discuss various combinatorial interpretations of these positive coefficients in terms of leaf-labeled binary trees and in terms of the Stirling permutations introduced by Gessel and Stanley. These interpretations are derived from previous results of the author and Wachs related to the poset of weighted partitions and the free multibracketed Lie algebra.

Coefficients of the Inflated Eulerian Polynomial
It follows from work of Chung and Graham that for a certain family of polynomials $T_{n}(x)$, derived from the descent statistic on permutations, the coefficient sequence of $T_{n-1}(x)$ coincides with that of the polynomial $T_{n}(x)/\left(1+x+\cdots+x^{n-1}\right)$. We observed computationally that the inflated $\mathbf{s}$-Eulerian polynomial $Q_{n}^{(\mathbf{s})}(x)$, which satisfies $Q_{n}^{(\mathbf{s})}(x) = T_{n}(x)$ when $\mathbf{s}=(1,2,\ldots,n)$, also satisfies this property for many sequences $\mathbf{s}$. In this work we characterize those sequences $\mathbf{s}$ for which the coefficient sequence of $Q_{n-1}^{(\mathbf{s})}(x)$ coincides with that of the polynomial $Q_{n}^{(\mathbf{s})}(x)/\left(1+x+\cdots+x^{s_{n}-1}\right)$. In particular, we show that all nondecreasing sequences satisfy this property.
We also settle a conjecture of Pensyl and Savage by showing that the inflated $\mathbf{s}$-Eulerian polynomials are unimodal for all choices of positive integer sequences ${\bf s}$. In addition, we determine when these polynomials are palindromic and show our characterization is equivalent to another of Beck, Braun, Köppe, Savage, and Zafeirakopoulos.
