Bumpless Pipe Dream Fragments -- Equivariant Geometry of Clans
In this paper, we establish a new geometric setting for bumpless pipe dreams and double Schubert polynomials. Building on the notion of bumpless pipe dream fragments, we define clan polynomials as their weight generating functions. It turns out that clan polynomials arise naturally in the equivariant geometry of ($GL_p\times GL_q$)-orbits over the flag variety $Fl_{p+q}$ parametrized by $(p,q)$-clans. Furthermore, we show that the coefficients in the equivariant Schubert expansion of the fundamental classes of ($GL_p\times GL_q$)-orbit closures are exactly clan polynomials, which resolves an open problem posed by Wyser and Yong.
Structure and geometry of the tableaux algebra
We study the monoid algebra ${}_{n}\mathcal{T}_{m}$ of semistandard Young tableaux, which coincides with the Gelfand--Tsetlin semigroup ring $\mathcal{GT}_{n}$ when $m = n$. Among others, we show that this algebra is commutative, Noetherian, reduced, Koszul, and Cohen--Macaulay. We provide a complete classification of its maximal ideals and compute the topology of its maximal spectrum. Furthermore, we classify its irreducible modules and provide a faithful semisimple representation. We also establish that its associated variety coincides with a toric degeneration of certain partial flag varieties constructed by Gonciulea--Lakshmibai. As an application, we show that this algebra yields injective embeddings of $\mathfrak{sl}_n$-crystals, extending a result of Bossinger--Torres.

Eigenvalue bounds for combinatorial Laplacians and an application to random complexes
This paper establishes new eigenvalue bounds for combinatorial Laplacians of simplicial complexes, extending previous results for flag complexes by Lew (2024) and general complexes by Shukla and Yogeshwaran (2020). Using elementary matrix-theoretic methods, we derive lower bounds for the eigenvalues of the combinatorial Laplacian in terms of the graph Laplacian spectrum and combinatorial parameters that measure the deviation from a flag complex. As a consequence, we obtain upper bounds on the dimension of cohomology groups. We also generalize an eigenvalue comparison inequality between a simplicial complex and its subcomplexes to arbitrary eigenvalues. As an application of the dimension bounds, we refine a result by Kahle (2007) on the vanishing of cohomology and connectivity in the neighborhood complex of the Erdős--Rényi random graph.

Semi-inducibility of 4-vertex graphs
For a graph $H$ whose edges are coloured blue or red, the $H$-semi-inducibility problem asks for the maximum, over all graphs $G$ of given order $n$, of the number of injections from the vertex set of $H$ into the vertex set of $G$ that send red (resp. blue) edges of $H$ to edges (resp. non-edges) of $G$. We consider all possible 4-vertex non-complete graphs $H$ and essentially resolve all remaining cases except when $H$ is the 3-edge path coloured blue-blue-red in this order (or is equivalent to this case). Some of our proofs are computer-generated, using the flag algebra method of Razborov.

Lattice point enumeration of polytopes associated to integer compositions
An $n$-dimensional lattice polytope ${\mathcal Q}_σ$ can be associated to any composition $σ$ of a positive integer $n$, as a special case of constructions due to Pitman--Stanley and Chapoton. The entries of the $h$-vector of $σ$, introduced by Chapoton, enumerate the lattice points in ${\mathcal Q}_σ$ by the number of their nonzero coordinates. Chapoton conjectured that this vector is equal to the $h$-vector of a flag simplicial polytope. This paper proves this conjecture. Moreover, it shows that the gamma-vector associated to the $h$-vector of $σ$ is nonnegative by means of an explicit combinatorial interpretation and confirms certain other conjectures of Chapoton on the lattice point enumeration of composition polytopes. A combinatorial interpretation of their $h^\ast$-polynomials is deduced.

Monotonically Decreasing the Number of Directed 3-Cycles via Edge-Flips?
We investigate a combinatorial reconfiguration problem on oriented graphs, where a reconfiguration step (edge-flip) is the inversion of the orientation of a single edge. A recently published conjecture that is relevant to the correctness of a Markov Chain Monte Carlo sampler for directed flag complexes states that any simple oriented graph admits a flip sequence that monotonically decreases the number of directed 3-cycles to zero, and is known to be true for complete oriented graphs. We show that, in general, this conjecture does not hold. As main tool for disproving the conjecture, we introduce the concept of FBD-graphs (fully blocked digraphs). An FBD-graph is a directed graph that does not contain any directed 1-, 2-, or 3-cycles, and for which any edge-flip creates a directed 3-cycle. We prove that the non-existence of FBD-graphs is a necessary condition for the conjecture to hold and succeed in constructing FBD-graphs. On the other hand, we show that complete graphs, as well as graphs in which every edge is incident to at most two triangles, cannot be fully blocked. In addition to being relevant for determining in which cases the above mentioned sampling process is correct, the concept of FBD-graphs might also be useful for other problems and yields interesting questions for further study.
Discrete Curvatures and Convex Polytopes
We study Forman--Ricci and effective resistance curvatures on the skeleta of convex polytopes. Our guiding questions are: how frequently do polytopal graphs exhibit everywhere positive curvature, and what structural constraints does positivity impose? For Forman--Ricci curvature we derive an exact identity for the average edge curvature in terms of flag $f$-numbers and establish the existence of infinite families of Forman--Ricci-positive polytopes in every fixed dimension $d\ge 6$. We prove finiteness results in low dimension: there are only finitely many Forman--Ricci-positive $3$- and $4$-polytopes; for $d=5$ we show finiteness in the simplicial case, and conjecture its extension to $5$-polytopes more generally. For the resistance curvature $κ(v)$ we establish the existence of infinite families for all $d\ge 3$, and we provide a quantitative lower bound for $κ(v)$ in a simple $3$-polytope in terms of the lengths of the three $2$-faces incident to $v$. This bound leads to constructions of non-vertex-transitive, resistance-positive $3$-polytopes via $Δ$-operations, and a degree-based obstruction showing that if each neighbor of $v$ has degree at most $d_v-2$, then $κ(v)\le 0$. Our results suggest that positive curvature on polytopal skeletons is rare and constrained.

Combinatorial Aspects of Elliptic Schubert Calculus
The main goal of this paper is to extend two fundamental combinatorial results in Schubert calculus on flag manifolds from equivariant cohomology and $K$-theory to equivariant elliptic cohomology. The foundations of elliptic Schubert calculus were laid in a few relatively recent papers by Rimányi, Weber, and Kumar. They include the recursive construction of elliptic Schubert classes via generalizations of the cohomology and $K$-theory push-pull operators and the study of the corresponding Demazure algebra. We derive a Billey-type formula for the localization of elliptic Schubert classes (for partial flag manifolds of arbitrary type) and a pipe dream model for their polynomial representatives in the case of type $A$ flag manifolds. The latter extends the pipe dream model for double Schubert and Grothendieck polynomials. We also study the degeneration of elliptic Schubert classes to $K$-theory, which recovers the corresponding classical formulas.

Markov chains on Weyl groups from the geometry of the flag variety
This paper studies a basic Markov chain, the Burnside process, on the space of flags $G/B$ with $G = GL_n(\mathbb{F}_q)$ and $B$ its upper triangular matrices. This gives rise to a shuffling: a Markov chain on the symmetric group realized via the Bruhat decomposition. Actually running and describing this Markov chain requires understanding Springer fibers and the Steinberg variety. The main results give a practical algorithm for all n and q and determine the limiting behavior of the chain when q is large. In describing this behavior, we find interesting connections to the combinatorics of the Robinson-Schensted correspondence and to the geometry of orbital varieties. The construction and description is then carried over to finite Chevalley groups of arbitrary type, describing a new class of Markov chains on Weyl groups.

Motivic Classes of Isotropic Degeneracy Loci and Symmetric Orbit Closures
We provide explicit formulas for computing the motivic Chern and Hirzebruch classes of degeneracy loci, especially those coming from the symplectic and odd orthogonal Grassmannians. The Chern--Schwartz--MacPherson classes, K-theory classes, and Cappell--Shaneson L-classes arise as specializations of the motivic Chern and Hirzebruch classes. Our result is the analogue of the result of Anderson--Chen--Tarasca for the degeneracy loci from the ordinary Grassmannians. As applications, we obtain the motivic Chern and Hirzebruch classes of orthogonal and symplectic orbit closures in flag varieties.

Totally positive Toeplitz matrices: classical and modern
By a theorem of Edrei, an infinite, normalised totally nonnegative upper-triangular Toeplitz matrix is determined by a pair of nonnegative parameter sequences, the `Schoenberg parameters', where nonzero parameters correspond to the roots and poles of a naturally associated generating function. These totally nonnegative Toeplitz matrices and their parameters also arise in the classification of characters of the infinite symmetric group by later work of Thoma. Moreover the Schoenberg parameters have an asymptotic interpretation in terms of irreducible representations of S_n and their Young diagrams by Vershik-Kerov. In this article we consider infinite totally positive Toeplitz matrices as limits of finite ones, and we obtain two further asymptotic descriptions of the Schoenberg parameters that are now related to quantum cohomology of the flag variety as n goes to infinity. One is related to asymptotics of normalised quantum parameters, and the other to asymptotics of the Chern classes of the tautological line bundles. We also describe the asymptotics of (quantum) Schubert classes in terms of the Schoenberg parameters. Our limit formulas relate to and were motivated by a tropical analogue of this theory that we survey. In the tropical setting one finds an asymptotic relationship between the `tropical Schoenberg parameters' and the weight map from Lusztig's parametrisation of the canonical basis.
Planar ternary graphs, flag spheres, and Delannoy polynomials
In 2022 Kim showed when a graph $G$ is ternary (without induced cycles of length divisible by three), its independence complex $\text{Ind}(G)$ is either contractible or homotopy equivalent to a sphere. In this paper, we show that when $\text{Ind}(G)$ is homotopy equivalent to a sphere of dimension $\dim \text{Ind}(G)$, the complex is Gorenstein. Equivalently, $G$ is a $1$-well-covered graph. This answers a question by Faridi and Holleben. We then focus on the independence complexes of Gorenstein planar ternary graphs. We prove that they are boundaries of vertex decomposable simplicial polytopes. We show that the transformations among these flag spheres using edge subdivisions and contractions can be modeled by the Hasse diagram of the partition refinement poset. In addition, their $h$-polynomials are products of Delannoy polynomials and thus real-rooted. Finally, we demonstrate a way to construct nonplanar Gorenstein ($1$-well-covered) ternary graphs from planar ones.

Special restricted partition functions for the stable sheaf cohomology on flag varieties
Let $\mathbf a:=(a_1,\ldots,a_r)$ be a sequence of positive integers, $d\geq 2$ and $j\geq 1$, some integers. We study the functions $p_{\mathbf a,d}(n):=$ the number of integer solutions $(x_1,\dots,x_r)$ of $\sum_{i=1}^r a_ix_i=n$, with $x_i\geq 0$ and $x_i \equiv 0,1(\bmod\;d)$, for all $1\leq i\leq r$, and $p_{\mathbf a,d}(n;j):=$ the number of $(x_1,\ldots,x_r)$ as above which satisfy also the condition $\sum_{i=1}^r \left(x_i-(d-2)\left\lfloor \frac{x_i}{d} \right\rfloor\right) =j$. We give formulas for $p_{\mathbf a,d}(n)$ and its polynomial part $P_{\mathbf a,d}(n)$, and also for $p_{\mathbf a,d}(n;j)$. As an application, we compute the dimensions of the stable cohomology groups for certain line bundles associated to flag varieties, defined over an algebraically closed field of positive characteristic.

Counting Homogeneous Einstein Metrics
We present an explicit upper bound on the number of isolated homogeneous Einstein metrics on compact homogeneous spaces whose isotropy representations consist of pairwise inequivalent irreducibles. This is the BKK bound of the corresponding system of Laurent polynomials and is found combinatorially by computing the volume of a polytope. Inspired by a connection with algebraic statistics, we describe this system's BKK discriminant in terms of the principal $A$-determinant of scalar curvature. As a consequence, we confirm the Finiteness Conjecture of Böhm--Wang--Ziller in special cases. In particular, we give a unified proof that it holds on all generalized Wallach spaces. Finally, using numerical algebraic geometry, we compute $G$-invariant Einstein metrics on low-dimensional full flag manifolds $G/T$, where $G$ is a compact simple Lie group and $T$ is a maximal torus.

Global positroid varieties
Positroid subvarieties of complex Grassmannians are the images of the Richardson subvarieties of the full flag varieties under the natural projection map. Positroid varieties admit natural embedding into certain quiver Grassmannians for equioriented cyclic quivers. Varying representations of the quiver, one defines global positroid varieties inside the type A global affine Grassmannian. General fiber of a family is isomorphic to the corresponding classical positroid variety and the special fiber is a subvariety of the juggling variety. We show that the global positroid families are flat and describe their (conjecturally reduced) scheme structures. We also describe the special fibers inside the product of classical positroid varieties and realize the irreducible components of the special fibers in terms of the affine Richardson varieties.

A Higgs category for the cluster variety of triples of flags
The cluster variety of triples of flags (associated with a split simple Lie group of Dynkin type Delta) plays a key role in higher Teichmuller theory as developed by Fock-Goncharov, Jiarui Fei, Ian Le, ... and Goncharov-Shen. We refer to it as the basic triangle associated with Delta. In this paper, for simply laced Delta, we construct and study a Higgs category (in the sense of Yilin Wu) which we expect to categorify the basic triangle. This category is a certain exact dg category (in the sense of Xiaofa Chen) which is Frobenius and stably 2-Calabi-Yau. We show that it has indeed the expected cyclic group symmetry and that its derived category has the expected braid group symmetry. A key ingredient in our construction is a conjecture by Merlin Christ, whose proof occupies most of this paper. The proof is based on a new description of the Higgs category in terms of Gorenstein projective dg modules. Our techniques are in the spirit of Orlov in his work on triangulated categories of graded B-branes.

Combinatorial proof of a permuted basement Macdonald polynomial identity
A well-known and fundamental property of the Macdonald polynomials $P_λ(x;q,t)$ is their invariance under the transformation sending $(q,t)$ to $(q^{-1},t^{-1})$. Recently, Concha and Lapointe showed that this property extends in an interesting, nontrivial way to an identity for partially symmetric Macdonald polynomials. Their identity played a key role in the work of Bechtloff Weising and Orr linking partially symmetric Macdonald polynomials to parabolic flag Hilbert schemes. In this paper, we refine the Concha-Lapointe identity to a sub-family of Alexandersson's permuted basement Macdonald polynomials and give a combinatorial proof of the refined identity. We show also that the Concha-Lapointe identity is equivalent to the assertion that (normalized) partially symmetric Macdonald polynomials are fixed under the Kazhdan-Lusztig involution.

Sums of algebraic dilates
We show that if $λ_1,\ldots,λ_k$ are algebraic numbers, then $$|A+λ_1\cdot A+\dots+λ_k\cdot A|\geq H(λ_1,\ldots,λ_k)|A|-o(|A|)$$ for all finite subsets $A$ of $\mathbb{C}$, where $H(λ_1,\ldots,λ_k)$ is an explicit constant that is best possible. The proof combines several ingredients, including a lower bound estimate on the measure of sums of linear transformations of compact sets in $\mathbb{R}^d$, a variant of Freiman's theorem tuned specifically to sums of dilates and the analysis of what we call lattice density, which succinctly captures how a subset of $\mathbb{Z}^d$ is arranged relative to a given flag of lattices. As an application, we revisit the study of sums of linear transformations of finite sets, in particular proving an asymptotically best possible lower bound for sums of two linear transformations.

Ehrhart non-positivity and unimodular triangulations for classes of s-lecture hall simplices
Counting lattice points and triangulating polytopes is a prominent subject in discrete geometry, yet proving Ehrhart positivity or existence of unimodular triangulations remain of utmost difficulty in general, even for ``easy'' simplices. We study these questions for classes of s-lecture hall simplices. Inspired by a question of Olsen, we present a new natural class of sequences s for which the s-lecture hall simplices are not Ehrhart positive, by explicitly estimating a negative coefficient. Meanwhile, motivated by a conjecture of Hibi, Olsen and Tsuchiya, we extend the previously known classes of sequences s for which the s-lecture hall simplex admits a flag, regular and unimodular triangulation. The triangulations we construct are explicit.

On Vanishing of Gromov--Witten Invariants
We consider the decision problem of whether a particular Gromov--Witten invariant on a partial flag variety is zero. We prove that for the $3$-pointed, genus zero invariants, this problem is in the complexity class ${\sf AM}$ assuming the Generalized Riemann Hypothesis (GRH), and therefore lies in the second level of polynomial hierarchy ${\sf PH}$. For the proof, we construct an explicit system of polynomial equations through a translation of the defining equations. We also need to prove an extension of the Parametric Hilbert's Nullstellensatz to obtain our central reduction.
