The mixed Schur transform: efficient quantum circuit and applications
The Schur transform, which block-diagonalizes the tensor representation $U^{\otimes n}$ of the unitary group $\mathbf{U}_d$ on $n$ qudits, is an important primitive in quantum information and theoretical physics. We give a generalization of its quantum circuit implementation due to Bacon, Chuang, and Harrow (SODA 2007) to the case of mixed tensor $U^{\otimes n} \otimes \bar{U}^{\otimes m}$, where $\bar{U}$ is the dual representation. This representation is the symmetry of unitary-equivariant channels, which find various applications in quantum majority vote, multiport-based teleportation, asymmetric state cloning, black-box unitary transformations, etc. The "mixed" Schur transform contains several natural extensions of the representation theory used in the Schur transform, in which the main ingredient is a duality between the mixed tensor representations and the walled Brauer algebra. Another element is an efficient implementation of a "dual" Clebsch-Gordan transform for $\bar{U}$. The overall circuit has complexity $\widetilde{O} ((n+m)d^4)$. Finally, we show how the mixed Schur transform enables efficient implementation of unitary-equivariant channels in various settings and discuss other potential applications, including an extension of permutational quantum computing that includes partial transposes.

Decimation classes of nonnegative integer vectors using multisets
We describe how previously known methods for determining the number of decimation classes of density $δ$ binary vectors can be extended to nonnegative integer vectors, where the vectors are indexed by a finite abelian group $G$ of size $\ell$ and exponent $\ell^*$ such that $δ$ is relatively prime to $\ell^*$. We extend the previously discovered theory of multipliers for arbitrary subsets of finite abelian groups, to arbitrary multisubsets of finite abelian groups. Moreover, this developed theory provides information on the number of distinct translates fixed by each member of the multiplier group as well as sufficient conditions for each member of the multiplier group to be translate fixing.

Overview on the theory of double flag varieties for symmetric pairs
Let $ G $ be a connected reductive algebraic group and its symmetric subgroup $ K $. The variety $ \dblFV = K/Q \times G/P $ is called a double flag variety, where $ Q $ and $ P $ are parabolic subgroups of $ K $ and $ G $ respectively. In this article, we make a survey on the theory of double flag varieties for a symmetric pair $ (G, K) $ and report entirely new results and theorems on this theory. Most important topic is the finiteness of $ K $-orbits on $ \dblFV $. We summarize the classification of $ \dblFV $ of finite type, which are scattered in the literatures. In some respects such classifications are complete, and in some cases not. In particular, we get a classification of double flag varieties of finite type when a symmetric pair is of type AIII, using the theorems of Homma who describes ``indecomposable'' objects of such double flag varieties. Together with these classifications, newly developed embedding theory provides double flag varieties of finite type, which are new. Other ingredients in this article are Steinberg theory, generalization of Robinson-Schensted correspondence, and orbit classification via quiver representations. We hope this article is useful for those who want to study the theory of double flag varieties.

Homology and Euler characteristic of generalized anchored configuration spaces of graphs
In this paper we consider the generalized anchored configuration spaces on $n$ labeled points on a~graph. These are the spaces of all configurations of $n$ points on a~fixed graph $G$, subject to the condition that at least $q$ vertices in some pre-determined set $K$ of vertices of $G$ are included in each configuration. We give a non-alternating formula for the Euler characteristic of such spaces for arbitrary connected graphs, which are not trees. Furthermore, we completely determine the homology groups of the generalized anchored configuration spaces of $n$ points on a circle graph.

A Ramsey-type phenomenon in two and three dimensional simplices
We develop a Ramsey-like theorem for subsets of the two and three-dimensional simplex. A generalization of the combinatorial theorem presented here to all dimensions would produce a new proof that $\textrm{Homeo}_+[0,1]$ is extremely amenable (a theorem due to Pestov) using general results of Uspenskij on extreme amenability in homeomorphism groups.

Joint extremes of inversions and descents of random permutations
We provide asymptotic theory for the joint distribution of $X_{\mathrm{inv}}$ and $X_{\mathrm{des}}$, the numbers of inversions and descents of random permutations. Recently, Dörr & Kahle (2022) proved that $X_{\mathrm{inv}}$, respectively, $X_{\mathrm{des}}$ is in the maximum domain of attraction of the Gumbel distribution. To tackle the dependency between these two permutation statistics, we use Hájek projections and a suitable quantitative Gaussian approximation. We show that $(X_{\mathrm{inv}}, X_{\mathrm{des}})$ is in the maximum domain of attraction of the two-dimensional Gumbel distribution with independent margins. This result can be stated in the broader combinatorial framework of finite Coxeter groups, on which our method also yields the central limit theorem for $(X_{\mathrm{inv}}, X_{\mathrm{des}})$ and various other permutation statistics as a novel contribution. In particular, signed permutation groups with random biased signs and products of classical Weyl groups are investigated.

A generalization of immanants based on partition algebra characters
Published in Can. Math. Bull. 67 (2024) 1001-1010 • View PublicationBIB
We introduce a generalization of immanants of matrices, using partition algebra characters in place of symmetric group characters. We prove that our immanant-like function on square matrices, which we refer to as the recombinant, agrees with the usual definition for immanants for the special case whereby the vacillating tableaux associated with the irreducible characters correspond, according to the Bratteli diagram for partition algebra representations, to the integer partition shapes for symmetric group characters. In contrast to previously studied variants and generalizations of immanants, as in Temperley-Lieb immanants and $f$-immanants, the sum that we use to define recombinants is indexed by a full set of partition diagrams, as opposed to permutations.

Characters of $GL_n(\mathbb F_q)$ and vertex operators
Published in J. Algebra 653 (2024), 109-132 • View PublicationBIB
In this paper, we present a vertex operator approach to construct and compute all complex irreducible characters of the general linear group $\GL_n(\mathbb F_q)$. Green's theory of $\GL_n(\mathbb F_q)$ is recovered and enhanced under the realization of the Grothendieck ring of representations $R_G=\bigoplus_{n\geq 0}R(\GL_n(\mathbb F_q))$ as two isomorphic Fock spaces associated to two infinite-dimensional $F$-equivariant Heisenberg Lie algebras $\widehat{\mathfrak{h}}_{\hat{\overline{\mathbb F}}_q}$ and $\widehat{\mathfrak{h}}_{\overline{\mathbb F}_q}$, where $F$ is the Frobenius automorphism of the algebraically closed field $\overline{\mathbb F}_q$. Under this picture, the irreducible characters are realized by the Bernstein vertex operators for Schur functions, the characteristic functions of the conjugacy classes are realized by the vertex operators for the Hall-Littlewood functions, and the character table is completely given by matrix coefficients of vertex operators of these two types. One of the features of the current approach is a simpler identification of the Fock space $R_G$ as the Hall algebra of symmetric functions via vertex operator calculus, and another is that we are able to compute in general the character table, where Green's degree formula is demonstrated as an example.
Hypergraph $p$-Laplacians and Scale Spaces

This paper introduces gradient, adjoint, and $p$-Laplacian definitions for oriented hypergraphs as well as differential and averaging operators for unoriented hypergraphs. These definitions are used to define gradient flows in the form of diffusion equations with applications in modelling group dynamics and information flow in social networks as well as performing local and non-local image processing.

Explicit forms in lower degrees of rank 2 cluster scattering diagrams
In this paper, we study wall elements of rank 2 cluster scattering diagrams based on dilogarithm elements. We derive two major results. First, we give a method to calculate wall elements in lower degrees. By this method, we may see the explicit forms of wall elements including the Badlands, which is the complement of $G$-fan. In this paper, we write one up to 7 degrees. Also, by using this method, we derive some walls independent of their degrees. Second, we find a certain admissible form of them. In the proof of these facts, we introduce a matrix action on a structure group, which we call a similarity transformation, and we argue the relation between this action and ordered products.

Politopality of 2-orbit maniplexes
Abstract polytopes are a combinatorial generalization of convex and skeletal polytopes. Counting how many flag orbits a polytope has under its automorphism group is a way of measuring how symmetric it is. Polytopes with one flag orbit are called regular and are very well known. Polytopes with two flag orbits (called 2-orbit polytopes) are, however, way more elusive. There are $2^n-1$ possible classes of 2-orbit polytopes in rank (dimension) $n$, but for most of those classes, determining whether or not they are empty is still an open problem. In 2019, in their article An existence result on two-orbit maniplexes, Pellicer, Potočnik and Toledo constructed 2-orbit maniplexes (objects that generalize abstract polytopes and maps) in all these classes, but the question of whether or not they are also polytopes remained open. In this paper we use the results of a previous paper by the author and Hubard to show that some of these 2-orbit maniplexes are, in fact, polytopes. In particular we prove that there are 2-orbit polytopes in all the classes where exactly two kinds of reflections are forbidden. We use this to show that there are at least $n^2-n+1$ classes of 2-orbit polytopes of rank $n$ that are not empty. We also show that the maniplexes constructed with this method in the remaining classes satisfy all but (possibly) one of the properties necessary to be polytopes, therefore we get closer to proving that there are 2-orbit polytopes in all the classes.

On Unique Factorization of Non-periodic Words
Given a bi-order $\succ$ on the free group $\mathcal{F}$, we show that every non-periodic cyclically reduced word $W\in \mathcal{F}$ admits a maximal ascent that is uniquely positioned. This provides a cyclic permutation of $W'$ that decomposes as $W'=AD$ where $A$ is the maximal ascent and $D$ is either trivial or a descent. We show that if $D$ is not uniquely positioned in $W$, then it must be an internal subword in $A$. Moreover, we show that when $\succ$ is the Magnus ordering, $D=1_\mathcal{F}$ if and only if $W$ is monotonic.

Conditions for matchability in groups and field extensions II
We present sufficient conditions for the existence of matchings in abelian groups and their linear counterparts. These conditions lead to extensions of existing results in matching theory. Additionally, we classify subsets within abelian groups that cannot be matched. We introduce the concept of Chowla subspaces and formulate and conjecture a linear analogue of a result originally attributed to Y. O. Hamidoune [20] concerning Chowla sets. If proven true, this result would extend matchings in primitive subspaces. Throughout the paper, we emphasize the analogy between matchings in abelian groups and field extensions. We also pose numerous open questions for future research. Our approach relies on classical theorems in group theory, additive number theory and linear algebra. As the title of the paper suggests, this work is the second sequel to a previous paper [5] with a similar theme. This paper is self-contained and can be read independently.
Logarithmic terms in discrete heat kernel expansions in the quadrant
In the context of lattice walk enumeration in cones, we consider the number of walks in the quarter plane with fixed starting and ending points, prescribed step-set and given length. After renormalization, this number may be interpreted as a discrete heat kernel in the quadrant. We propose a new method to compute complete asymptotic expansions of these numbers of walks as their length tends to infinity, based on two main ingredients: explicit expressions for the underlying generating functions in terms of elliptic Jacobi theta functions along with a duality known as Jacobi transformation. This duality allows us to pass from a classical Taylor expansion of the series to an expansion at the critical point of the model. We work through two examples. First, we present our approach on the well-known Kreweras model, which is algebraic, and show how to obtain a complete asymptotic expansion in this case. We then consider a more generic (so-called infinite group) model, and find the associated complete asymptotic expansion. In this second case, we prove the existence of logarithmic terms in the asymptotic expansion, and we relate the coefficients appearing in the expansion to polyharmonic functions. To our knowledge, this is the first time that logarithmic terms have been observed in the asymptotics of a class of lattice walks confined to a quadrant.

Symmetry of $f$-vectors of toric arrangements in general position and some applications
A toric hyperplane is the preimage of a point $x \in S^1$ of a continuous surjective group homomorphism $θ: \mathbb{T}^n \to S^1$. A finite hyperplane arrangement is a finite collection of such hyperplanes. In this paper, we study the combinatorial properties of finite hyperplane arrangements on $\mathbb{T}^n$ which are spanning and in general position. Specifically, we describe the symmetry of $f$-vectors arising in such arrangements and a few applications of the result to count configurations of hyperplanes.

The $s$-weak order and $s$-permutahedra II: The combinatorial complex of pure intervals
Published in The Electronic Journal of Combinatorics, 31(3):P3.12, August 2024 • View PublicationBIB
This paper introduces the geometric foundations for the study of the $s$-permutahedron and the $s$-associahedron, two objects that encode the underlying geometric structure of the $s$-weak order and the $s$-Tamari lattice. We introduce the $s$-permutahedron as the complex of pure intervals of the $s$-weak order, present enumerative results about its number of faces, and prove that it is a combinatorial complex. This leads, in particular, to an explicit combinatorial description of the intersection of two faces. We also introduce the $s$-associahedron as the complex of pure $s$-Tamari intervals of the $s$-Tamari lattice, show some enumerative results, and prove that it is isomorphic to a well chosen $ν$-associahedron. Finally, we present three polytopality conjectures, evidence supporting them, and some hints about potential generalizations to other finite Coxeter groups.
Chow Rings of Matroids as Permutation Representations
Given a matroid and a group of its matroid automorphisms, we study the induced group action on the Chow ring of the matroid. This turns out to always be a permutation action. Work of Adiprasito, Huh and Katz showed that the Chow ring satisfies Poincaré duality and the Hard Lefschetz theorem. We lift these to statements about this permutation action, and suggest further conjectures in this vein.
Strange Expectations in Affine Weyl Groups
Our main result is a generalization, to all affine Weyl groups, of P. Johnson's proof of D. Armstrong's conjecture for the expected number of boxes in a simultaneous core. This extends earlier results by the second and third authors in simply-laced type. We do this by modifying and refining the appropriate notion of the "size" of a simultaneous core. In addition, we provide combinatorial core-like models for the coroot lattices in classical type and type $G_2$.

Descent representations and colored quasisymmetric functions
The quasisymmetric generating function of the set of permutations whose inverses have a fixed descent set is known to be symmetric and Schur-positive. The corresponding representation of the symmetric group is called the descent representation. In this paper, we provide an extension of this result to colored permutation groups, where Gessel's fundamental quasisymmetric functions are replaced by Poirier's colored quasisymmetric functions. For this purpose, we introduce a colored analogue of zigzag shapes and prove that the representations associated with these shapes coincide with colored descent representations studied by Adin, Brenti and Roichman in the case of two colors and Bagno and Biagioli in the general case. Additionally, we provide a colored analogue of MaMahon's alternating formula which expresses ribbon Schur functions in the basis of complete homogeneous symmetric functions.
Quiver presentations and isomorphisms of Hecke categories and Khovanov arc algebras
We prove that the extended Khovanov arc algebras are isomorphic to the basic algebras of anti-spherical Hecke categories for maximal parabolics of symmetric groups. We present these algebras by quiver and relations and provide the full submodule lattices of Verma modules.
