We determine the three fundamental invariants in the entries of a $3 \times 3 \times 3$ array over $\mathbb{C}$ as explicit polynomials in the 27 variables $x_{ijk}$ for $1 \le i, j, k \le 3$. By the work of Vinberg on $θ$-groups, it is known that these homogeneous polynomials have degrees 6, 9 and 12; they freely generate the algebra of invariants for the Lie group $SL_3(\mathbb{C}) \times SL_3(\mathbb{C}) \times SL_3(\mathbb{C})$ acting irreducibly on its natural representation $\mathbb{C}^3 \otimes \mathbb{C}^3 \otimes \mathbb{C}^3$. These generators have respectively 1152, 9216 and 209061 terms; we find compact expressions in terms of the orbits of the finite group $(S_3 \times S_3 \times S_3) \rtimes S_3$ acting on monomials of weight zero for the action of the Lie algebra $\mathfrak{sl}_3(\mathbb{C}) \oplus \mathfrak{sl}_3(\mathbb{C}) \oplus \mathfrak{sl}_3(\mathbb{C})$.

The classical characteristic map associates symmetric functions to characters of the symmetric groups. There are two natural analogues of this map involving the Brauer algebra. The first of them relies on the action of the orthogonal or symplectic group on a space of tensors, while the second is provided by the action of this group on the symmetric algebra of the corresponding Lie algebra. We consider the second characteristic map both in the orthogonal and symplectic case, and calculate the images of central idempotents of the Brauer algebra in terms of the Schur polynomials. The calculation is based on the Okounkov--Olshanski binomial formula for the classical Lie groups. We also reproduce the hook dimension formulas for representations of the classical groups by deriving them from the properties of the primitive idempotents of the symmetric group and the Brauer algebra.
The structure of approximate groups

Let K >= 1 be a parameter. A K-approximate group is a finite set A in a (local) group which contains the identity, is symmetric, and such that A^2 is covered by K left translates of A.
The main result of this paper is a qualitative description of approximate groups as being essentially finite-by-nilpotent, answering a conjecture of H. Helfgott and E. Lindenstrauss. This may be viewed as a generalisation of the Freiman-Ruzsa theorem on sets of small doubling in the integers to arbitrary groups.
We begin by establishing a correspondence principle between approximate groups and locally compact (local) groups that allows us to recover many results recently established in a fundamental paper of Hrushovski. In particular we establish that approximate groups can be approximately modeled by Lie groups.
To prove our main theorem we apply some additional arguments essentially due to Gleason. These arose in the solution of Hilbert's fifth problem in the 1950s.
Applications of our main theorem include a finitary refinement of Gromov's theorem, as well as a generalized Margulis lemma conjectured by Gromov and a result on the virtual nilpotence of the fundamental group of Ricci almost nonnegatively curved manifolds.

We introduce a new class of "electrical" Lie groups. These Lie groups, or more precisely their nonnegative parts, act on the space of planar electrical networks via combinatorial operations previously studied by Curtis-Ingerman-Morrow. The corresponding electrical Lie algebras are obtained by deforming the Serre relations of a semisimple Lie algebra in a way suggested by the star-triangle transformation of electrical networks. Rather surprisingly, we show that the type A electrical Lie group is isomorphic to the symplectic group. The nonnegative part (EL_{2n})_{\geq 0} of the electrical Lie group is a rather precise analogue of the totally nonnegative subsemigroup (U_{n})_{\geq 0} of the unipotent subgroup of SL_{n}. We establish decomposition and parametrization results for (EL_{2n})_{\geq 0}, paralleling Lusztig's work in total nonnegativity, and work of Curtis-Ingerman-Morrow and de Verdière-Gitler-Vertigan for networks. Finally, we suggest a generalization of electrical Lie algebras to all Dynkin types.

Let $\Fl_λ$ be a generalized flag variety of a simple Lie group $G$ embedded into the projectivization of an irreducible $G$-module $V_λ$. We define a flat degeneration $\Fl_λ^a$, which is a ${\mathbb G}^M_a$ variety. Moreover, there exists a larger group $G^a$ acting on $\Fl_λ^a$, which is a degeneration of the group $G$. The group $G^a$ contains ${\mathbb G}^M_a$ as a normal subgroup. If $G$ is of type $A$, then the degenerate flag varieties can be embedded into the product of Grassmanians and thus to the product of projective spaces. The defining ideal of $\Fl^a_λ$ is generated by the set of degenerate Pl\" ucker relations. We prove that the coordinate ring of $\Fl_λ^a$ is isomorphic to a direct sum of dual PBW-graded $\g$-modules. We also prove that there exist bases in multi-homogeneous components of the coordinate rings, parametrized by the semistandard PBW-tableux, which are analogues of semistandard tableux.
Cluster X-varieties for dual Poisson-Lie groups II
In the prequel of this paper, we have associated a family of cluster X-varieties to the dual Poisson-Lie group(G*,π_*) of (G,π_G) when (G,π_G) is a complex semi-simple Lie group of adjoint type, given with the standard Poisson structure π_G and π_* is the "dual" Poisson structure defined by the Semenov-Tian-Shansky Poisson bracket on G. We describe here the cluster combinatorics involved into the Artin group action on G* given by the De-Concini-Kac-Procesi Poisson automorphisms.

We associate a family of cluster X-varieties to the dual Poisson-Lie group G* of a complex semi-simple Lie group G of adjoint type given with the standard Poisson structure. This family is described by the W-permutohedron associated to the Lie algebra g of G: vertices being labeled by cluster X-varieties and edges by new Poisson birational isomorphisms, on appropriate seed X-tori, called saltation. The underlying combinatorics is based on a factorization of the Fomin-Zelevinsky twist maps into mutations and other new Poisson birational isomorphisms on seed X-tori called tropicalmutations, associated to an enrichment of the combinatorics on double words of the Weyl group W of G.

Combining Stein's method with heat kernel techniques, we show that the trace of the jth power of an element of U(n,C), USp(n,C) or SO(n,R) has a normal limit with error term of order j/n. In contrast to previous works, here j may be growing with n. The technique should prove useful in the study of the value distribution of approximate eigenfunctions of Laplacians.
Stable group theory and approximate subgroups

We note a parallel between some ideas of stable model theory and certain topics in finite combinatorics related to the sum-product phenomenon. For a simple linear group G, we show that a finite subset X with |X X \^{-1} X |/ |X| bounded is close to a finite subgroup, or else to a subset of a proper algebraic subgroup of G. We also find a connection with Lie groups, and use it to obtain some consequences suggestive of topological nilpotence. Combining these methods with Gromov's proof, we show that a finitely generated group with an approximate subgroup containing any given finite set must be nilpotent-by-finite. Model-theoretically we prove the independence theorem and the stabilizer theorem in a general first-order setting.

Let $G$ be a classical complex Lie group, $P$ any parabolic subgroup of $G$, and $G/P$ the corresponding partial flag variety. We prove an explicit combinatorial Giambelli formula which expresses an arbitrary Schubert class in the cohomology ring of $G/P$ as a polynomial in certain special Schubert class generators. Our formula extends to one that applies to the torus-equivariant cohomology ring of $G/P$ and to the setting of symplectic and orthogonal degeneracy loci.

Three other works, by Fisher-Katz-Peng, Sanders and Tao, have appeared which independently address related issues. We comment briefly on some of the connections between these papers.

I show how to associate a Clifford algebra to a graph. I describe the structure of these Clifford graph algebras and provide many examples and pictures. I describe which graphs correspond to isomorphic Clifford algebras and also discuss other related sets of graphs. This construction can be used to build models of representations of simply-laced compact Lie groups.

For each infinite series of the classical Lie groups of type B,C or D, we introduce a family of polynomials parametrized by the elements of the corresponding Weyl group of infinite rank. These polynomials represent the Schubert classes in the equivariant cohomology of the appropriate flag variety. They satisfy a stability property, and are a natural extension of the (single) Schubert polynomials of Billey and Haiman, which represent non-equivariant Schubert classes. They are also positive in a certain sense, and when indexed by maximal Grassmannian elements, or by the longest element in a finite Weyl group, these polynomials can be expressed in terms of the factorial analogues of Schur's Q- or P-functions defined earlier by Ivanov.

The classical multiplicative (Hirzebruch) genera of manifolds have the wonderful property which is called rigidity. Rigidity of a genus h means that if a compact connected Lie group G acts on a manifold X, then the equivariant genus h^G(X) is independent on G, i.e. h^G(X)=h(X). In this paper we are considering the rigidity problem for complex manifolds. In particular, we are proving that a genus is rigid if and only if it is a generalized Todd genus.

Identifying the algebra of exponential generating series with the shuffle algebra of formal power series, one can define an exponential map ${\mathop{exp}}_!:X\mathbb K[[X]]\longrightarrow 1+X\mathbb K[[X]]$ for the associated Lie group formed by exponential generating series with constant coefficient 1 over an arbitrary field $\mathbb K$. The main result of this paper states that the map ${\mathop{exp}}_!$ (and its inverse map ${\mathop{log}}_!$) induces a bijection between rational, respectively algebraic, series in $X\mathbb K [[X]]$ and $1+X\mathbb K[[X]]$ if the field $\mathbb K$ is a subfield of the algebraically closed field $\bar{\mathbb F}_p$ of characteristic $p$.

Let G be a simply-connected simple compact Lie group over the complex numbers. The affine Grassmannian is a projective ind-variety, homotopy-equivalent to the loop space of G and closely analogous to a maximal flag variety of the classical Grassmannian manifold. It has a Schubert cell decomposition indexed by the coroot lattice or equivalently by the minimal length coset representatives for the affine Weyl group modulo the Weyl group for G. The closure of an affine Schubert cell is a finite dimensional projective variety that we call an affine Schubert variety. In this paper we completely determine the smooth and palindromic (rationally smooth) affine Schubert varieties.

We generalize to the non simply-laced case results of Geiß, Leclerc and Schröer about the cluster structure of the coordinate ring of the maximal unipotent subgroups of simple Lie groups. In this way, cluster structures in the non simply-laced case can be seen as projections of cluster structures in the simply-laced case. This allows us to prove that cluster monomials are linearly independent in the non simply-laced case.
Stabilized plethysms for the classical Lie groups

The plethysms of the Weyl characters associated to a classical Lie group by the symmetric functions stabilize in large rank. In the case of a power sum plethysm, we prove that the coefficients of the decomposition of this stabilized form on the basis of Weyl characters are branching coefficients which can be determined by a simple algorithm. This generalizes in particular some classical results by Littlewood on the power sum plethysms of Schur functions. We also establish explicit formulas for the outer multiplicities appearing in the decomposition of the tensor square of any irreducible finite dimensional module into its symmetric and antisymmetric parts. These multiplicities can notably be expressed in terms of the Littlewood-Richardson coefficients.
Universal graded characters and limit of Lusztig $q$-analogues

Let G be a symplectic or orthogonal complex Lie group with Lie algebra g. As a G-module, the decomposition of the symmetric algebra S(g) into its irreducible components can be explicitely obtained by using identities due to Littlewood. We show that the multiplicities appearing in the decomposition of the k-th graded component of S(g) do not depend on the rank n of g providing n is sufficiently large. Thanks to a classical result by Kostant, we establish a similar result for the k-th graded component of the space H(g) of G-harmonic polynomials. These stabilization properties are equivalent to the existence of a limit in infinitely many variables for the graded characters associated to S(g) and H(g). The limits so obtained are formal series with coefficients in the ring of universal characters introduced by Koike and Terada.
From Hesselink expression of the graded character of harmonics, the coefficient of degree k in the Lusztig q-analogue associated to the partition lambda and the weight 0 thus stablizes for n sufficiently large. By using Morris-type recurrence formulas, we prove that this is also true for the polynomials $K_{λ,μ}^{g}(q)$ where mu is a nonempty fixed partition. This can be reformulated in terms of a stability property for the dimension of the components of the Brylinski-Kostant filtration. We also associate to each pair of partitions (lambda, mu) formal series $K_{λ,μ}^{so}(q)$ and $K_{λ,μ}^{sp}(q)$, which can be regarded as natural limit of the Lusztig q-analogues. One gives a duality property for these limits and obtains simple expressions when lambda is a row or a column partition.
