Quantum Grassmannians and their Associated Quantum Schubert Varieties at roots of unity
We study the PI degree of various quantum algebras at roots of unity, including quantum Grassmannians, quantum Schubert varieties, partition subalgebras, and their associated quantum affine spaces. By a theorem of De Concini and Procesi, the PI degree of partition subalgebras and their associated quantum affine spaces is controlled by skew-symmetric integral matrices associated to (Cauchon-Le) diagrams. We prove that the invariant factors of these matrices are always powers of 2. This allows us to compute explicitly the PI degree of partition subalgebras. Our results also apply to certain completely prime (homogeneous) quotients of partition subalgebras. In particular, our results allow us to extend results of Jakobsen and Jondrup regarding the PI degree of quantum determinantal rings at roots of unity [JJ01] and we present a method to construct an irreducible representation of maximal dimension for quantum determinantal ideals. Building on these results, we use the strong connection between partition subalgebras and quantum Schubert varieties through noncommutative dehomogenisation [LR08] to obtain expressions for the PI degree of quantum Schubert varieties. In particular, we compute the PI degree of quantum Grassmannians.

Noncommutative crossing partitions
We define and study noncommutative crossing partitions which are a generalization of non-crossing partitions. By introducing a new cover relation on binary trees, we show that the partially ordered set of noncommutative crossing partitions is a graded lattice. This new lattice contains the Kreweras lattice, the lattice of non-crossing partitions, as a sublattice. We calculate the Möbius function, the number of maximal chains and the number of $k$-chains in this new lattice by constructing an explicit $EL$-labeling on the lattice. By use of the $EL$-labeling, we recover the classical results on the Kreweras lattice. We characterize two endomorphism on the Kreweras lattice, the Kreweras complement map and the involution defined by Simion and Ullman, in terms of the maps on the noncommutative crossing partitions. We also establish relations among three combinatorial objects: labeled $k+1$-ary trees, $k$-chains in the lattice, and $k$-Dyck tilings.

A new infinite family of $σ$-elementary rings
Published • View PublicationBIB
A cover of an associative (not necessarily commutative nor unital) ring $R$ is a collection of proper subrings of $R$ whose set-theoretic union equals $R$. If such a cover exists, then the covering number $σ(R)$ of $R$ is the cardinality of a minimal cover, and a ring $R$ is called $σ$-elementary if $σ(R) < σ(R/I)$ for every nonzero two-sided ideal $I$ of $R$. In this paper, we provide the first examples of $σ$-elementary rings $R$ that have nontrivial Jacobson radical $J$ with $R/J$ noncommutative, and we determine the covering numbers of these rings.
Noncommutative Schur functions for posets
Published • View PublicationBIB
The machinery of noncommutative Schur functions is a general approach to Schur positivity of symmetric functions initiated by Fomin-Greene. Hwang recently adapted this theory to posets to give a new approach to the Stanley-Stembridge conjecture. We further develop this theory to prove that the symmetric function associated to any $P$-Knuth equivalence graph is Schur positive. This settles a conjecture of Kim and the third author, and refines results of Gasharov, Shareshian-Wachs, and Hwang on the Schur positivity of chromatic symmetric functions.

Analogues of Poisson type limit theorems in discrete bm-Fock spaces
Published • View PublicationBIB
We present analogues of the Poisson limit distribution for the noncommutative bm-independence, which is associated with several positive symmetric cones. We construct related discrete Fock spaces with creation, annihilation and conservation operators, and prove Poisson type limit theorems for them. Properties of the positive cones, in particular the volume characteristic property they enjoy, and the combinatorics of labelled noncrossing partitions, play crucial role in these considerations.

Combinatorial Mori-Zwanzig Theory
We introduce a combinatorial version Mori-Zwanzig theory and develop from it a family of self-consistent evolution equations for the correlation function or Green's function of interactive many-body systems. The core idea is to use an ansatz to rewrite the memory kernel (self-energy) of the regular Mori-Zwanzig equation as a function composition of the correlation (Green's) function. Then a series of algebraic combinatorial tools, especially the commutative and noncommutative Bell polynomials, are used to determine the exact Taylor series expansion of the composition function. The resulting combinatorial Mori-Zwanzig equation (CMZE) yields novel non-perturbative expansions of the equation of motion for the correlation (Green's) function. The structural equation for deriving such a combinatorial expansion resembles the combinatorial Dyson-Schwinger equation and may be viewed as its temporal-domain analogue. After introducing the abstract word and tree representation of the CMZE, we show its wide-range application in classical, stochastic, and quantum many-body systems. In all these examples, the new self-consistent expansions we obtained with the CMZE are similar to the diagrammatic skeleton expansions used in quantum many-body theory and lattice statistical field theory. We expect such a new framework can be used to calculate the correlation (Green's) function for strongly correlated/interactive many-body systems.

The constant term algebra of type $A$: the Structure
Published • View PublicationBIB
In this paper, we discover a new noncommutative algebra. We refer this algebra as the constant term algebra of type $A$, which is generated by certain constant term operators. We characterize a structural result of this algebra by establishing an explicit basis in terms of certain forests. This algebra arises when we apply the method of the iterated Laurent series to investigate Beck and Pixton's residue computation for the Ehrhart series of the Birkhoff polytope. This algebra seems to be the first structural result in the area of the constant term world since the discovery of the Dyson constant term identity in 1962.
On The Global Renormalization and Regularization of Several Complex Variable Zeta Functions by Computer
This review concerns the resolution of a special case of Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov equations ($KZ_3$) using our recent results on combinatorial aspects of zeta functions on several variables and software on noncommutative symbolic computations. In particular, we describe the actual solution of $(KZ_3)$ leading to the unique noncommutative series, $Φ_{KZ}$, so-called Drinfel'd associator (or Drinfel'd series). Non-trivial expressions for series with rational coefficients, satisfying the same properties with $Φ_{KZ}$, are also explicitly provided due to the algebraic structure and the singularity analysis of the polylogarithms and harmonic sums.

An analogue of Kida's formula in graph theory
Published in Pure & Applied Math. Quarterly, Vol. 21 (2025) No. 5, pp. 1853-1891 • View PublicationBIB
Let $\ell$ be a rational prime and let $p:Y\rightarrow X$ be a Galois cover of finite graphs whose Galois group is a finite $\ell$-group. Consider a $\mathbb{Z}_{\ell}$-tower above $X$ and its pullback along $p$. Assuming that all the graphs in the pullback are connected, one obtains a $\mathbb{Z}_{\ell}$-tower above $Y$. Under the assumption that the Iwasawa $μ$-invariant of the tower above $X$ vanishes, we prove a formula relating the Iwasawa $λ$-invariant of the $\mathbb{Z}_{\ell}$-tower above $X$ to the Iwasawa $λ$-invariant of the pullback. This formula is analogous to Kida's formula in classical Iwasawa theory. We present an application to the study of structural properties of certain noncommutative pro-$\ell$ towers of graphs, based on an analogy with classical results of Cuoco on the growth of Iwasawa invariants in $\mathbb{Z}_\ell^2$-extensions of number fields. Our investigations are illustrated by explicit examples.

Birational rowmotion on a rectangle over a noncommutative ring
Published in Combinatorial Theory, 3(3) (2023) • View PublicationBIB
We extend the periodicity of birational rowmotion for rectangular posets to the case when the base field is replaced by a noncommutative ring (under appropriate conditions). This resolves a conjecture from 2014. The proof uses a novel approach and is fully self-contained. Consider labellings of a finite poset $P$ by $\left|P\right| + 2$ elements of a ring $\mathbb{K}$: one label associated with each poset element and two constant labels for the added top and bottom elements in $\hat{P}$. *Birational rowmotion* is a partial map on such labellings. It was originally defined by Einstein and Propp for $\mathbb{K}=\mathbb{R}$ as a lifting (via detropicalization) of *piecewise-linear rowmotion*, a map on the order polytope $\mathcal{O}(P) := \{\text{order-preserving } f: P \to[0,1]\}$. The latter, in turn, extends the well-studied rowmotion map on the set of order ideals (or more properly, the set of order filters) of $P$, which correspond to the vertices of $\mathcal{O}(P)$. Dynamical properties of these combinatorial maps sometimes (but not always) extend to the birational level, while results proven at the birational level always imply their combinatorial counterparts. Allowing $\mathbb{K}$ to be noncommutative, we generalize the birational level even further, and some properties are in fact lost at this step. In 2014, the authors gave the first proof of periodicity for birational rowmotion on rectangular posets (when $P$ is a product of two chains) for $\mathbb{K}$ a field, and conjectured that it survives (in an appropriately twisted form) in the noncommutative case. In this paper, we prove this noncommutative periodicity and a concomitant antipodal reciprocity formula. We end with some conjectures about periodicity for other posets, and the question of whether our results can be extended to (noncommutative) semirings.

Chromatic quasisymmetric functions and noncommutative $P$-symmetric functions
Published • View PublicationBIB
For a natural unit interval order $P$, we describe proper colorings of the incomparability graph of $P$ in the language of heaps. We also introduce a combinatorial operation, called a \emph{local flip}, on the heaps. This operation defines an equivalence relation on the proper colorings, and the equivalence relation refines the ascent statistic introduced by Shareshian and Wachs. In addition, we define an analogue of noncommutative symmetric functions introduced by Fomin and Greene, with respect to $P$. We establish a duality between the chromatic quasisymmetric function of $P$ and these noncommutative symmetric functions. This duality leads us to positive expansions of the chromatic quasisymmetric functions into several symmetric function bases. In particular, we present some partial results for the $e$-positivity conjecture.
Catalan numbers, parking functions, permutahedra and noncommutative Hilbert schemes
Published • View PublicationBIB
We find an explicit $S_n$-equivariant bijection between the integral points in a certain zonotope in $\mathbb{R}^n$, combinatorially equivalent to the permutahedron, and the set of $m$-parking functions of length $n$. This bijection restricts to a bijection between the regular $S_n$-orbits and $(m,n)$-Dyck paths, the number of which is given by the Fuss-Catalan number $A_{n}(m,1)$. Our motivation came from studying tilting bundles on noncommutative Hilbert schemes. As a side result we use these tilting bundles to construct a semi-orthogonal decomposition of the derived category of noncommutative Hilbert schemes.

Categorifications of ${\textsf {QSym}}$ using supercharacter theories and a new basis for ${\textsf {NSym}}_{\mathbb{C}(q,t)}$
Let us fix a positive integer $ν>1$. For each positive integer $n>1$, we consider a normal supercharacter theory $\mathcal{S}_n$ of $G_n$, where $G_n$ is the direct-product of $n-1$ copies of the cyclic group of order $ν$. Then we endow $\bigoplus_{n \ge 0} \textsf{scf}(\mathcal{S}_n)$, the direct-product of supercharacter function spaces, with the Hopf algebra structure that is isomorphic to the Hopf algebra $\textsf{QSym}$ of quasisymmetric functions. Furthermore, we compute the structure constants of the Hopf algebra thus obtained for the basis consisting of superclass identifier functions. Using our categorifications, we study a new basis for the Hopf algebra $\textsf{NSym}_{\mathbb{C}(q,t)}$ of noncommutative symmetric functions over the rational function field $\mathbb{C}(q,t)$ in commuting variables $q$ and $t$, with an emphasis on the structure constants of $\textsf{NSym}_{\mathbb{C}(q,t)}$ for this basis. Some interesting applications are also obtained via the specializations of $q$ and $t$.

Noncommutative extensions of parameters in the asymptotic spectrum of graphs
The zero-error capacity of a classical channel is a parameter of its confusability graph, and is equal to the minimum of the values of graph parameters that are additive under the disjoint union, multiplicative under the strong product, monotone under homomorphisms between the complements, and normalized. We show that any such function either has uncountably many extensions to noncommutative graphs with similar properties, or no such extensions at all. More precisely, we find that every extension has an exponent that characterizes its values on the confusability graphs of identity quantum channels, and the set of admissible exponents is either an unbounded subinterval of $[1,\infty)$ or empty. In particular, the set of admissible exponents for the Lovász number, the projective rank, and the fractional Haemers bound over the complex numbers are maximal, while the fractional clique cover number does not have any extensions.

A combinatorial interpretation of the noncommutative inverse Kostka matrix
Published • View PublicationBIB
We provide a combinatorial formula for the expansion of immaculate noncommutative symmetric functions into complete homogeneous noncommutative symmetric functions. To do this, we introduce generalizations of Ferrers diagrams which we call GBPR diagrams. We define tunnel hooks, which play a role similar to that of the special rim hooks appearing in the Eğecioğlu-Remmel formula for the symmetric inverse Kostka matrix. We extend this interpretation to skew shapes and fully generalize to define immaculate functions indexed by integer sequences skewed by integer sequences. Finally, as an application of our combinatorial formula, we extend Campbell's results on ribbon decompositions of immaculate functions to a larger class of shapes.
On the Hopf algebra of noncommutative symmetric functions in superspace
Published • View PublicationBIB
We study in detail the Hopf algebra of noncommutative symmetric functions in superspace sNSym, introduced by Fishel, Lapointe and Pinto. We introduce a family of primitive elements of sNSym and extend the noncommutative elementary and power sum functions to superspace. Then, we give formulas relating these families of functions. Also, we introduce noncommutative Ribbon Schur functions in superspace and provide a explicit formula for their product. We show that the dual basis of these function is given by a family of the so--called fundamental quasisymmetric functions in superspace. This allows us to obtain a explicit formula for the coproduct of fundamental quasisymmetric functions in superspace. Additionally, by projecting the noncommutative Ribbon Schur functions in superspace, we define a new basis for the algebra of symmetric functions in superspace. On the other hand, we also show that sNSym can be realised as a Hopf algebra of trees.

Pre-Calabi--Yau algebras and homotopy double Poisson gebras
We prove that the notion of a curved pre-Calabi--Yau algebra is equivalent to the notion of a curved homotopy double Poisson gebra, thereby settling the equivalence between the two ways to define derived noncommutative Poisson structures. We actually prove that the respective differential graded Lie algebras controlling both deformation theories are isomorphic. This allows us to apply the recent developments of the properadic calculus in order to establish the homotopical properties of curved pre-Calabi--Yau algebras: infinity-morphisms, homotopy transfer theorem, formality, Koszul hierarchy, and twisting procedure.

New approaches to $\mathfrak{gl}_N$ weight system
Published • View PublicationBIB
The present paper has been motivated by an aspiration for understanding the weight system corresponding to the Lie algebra $\mathfrak{gl}_N$. The straightforward approach to computing the values of a Lie algebra weight system on a general chord diagram amounts to elaborating calculations in the noncommutative universal enveloping algebra, in spite of the fact that the result belongs to the center of the latter. The first approach is based on a suggestion due to M. Kazarian to define an invariant of permutations taking values in the center of the universal enveloping algebra of $\mathfrak{gl}_N$. The restriction of this invariant to involutions without fixed points (such an involution determines a chord diagram) coincides with the value of the $\mathfrak{gl}_N$ -weight system on this chord diagram. We describe the recursion allowing one to compute the $\mathfrak{gl}_N$ -invariant of permutations and demonstrate how it works in a number of examples. The second approach is based on the Harish-Chandra isomorphism for the Lie algebras $\mathfrak{gl}_N$. This isomorphism identifies the center of the universal enveloping algebra $\mathfrak{gl}_N$ with the ring $Λ^*(N)$ of shifted symmetric polynomials in $N$ variables. The Harish-Chandra projection can be applied separately for each monomial in the defining polynomial of the weight system; as a result, the main body of computations can be done in a commutative algebra, rather than noncommutative one.

A ribbon graph derivation of the algebra of functional renormalization for random multi-matrices with multi-trace interactions
Published in Lett. Math. Phys. 112, 58 (2022) • View PublicationBIB
We focus on functional renormalization for ensembles of several (say $n\geq 1$) random matrices, whose potentials include multi-traces, to wit, the probability measure contains factors of the form $ \exp[-\mathrm{Tr}(V_1)\times\ldots\times \mathrm{Tr}(V_k)]$ for certain noncommutative polynomials $V_1,\ldots,V_k\in \mathbb{C}_{\langle n \rangle}$ in the $n$ matrices. This article shows how the "algebra of functional renormalization" -- that is, the structure that makes the renormalization flow equation computable -- is derived from ribbon graphs, only by requiring the one-loop structure that such equation (due to Wetterich) is expected to have. Whenever it is possible to compute the renormalization flow in terms of $\mathrm U(N)$-invariants, the structure gained is the matrix algebra $M_n( \mathcal{A}_{n,N}, \star ) $ with entries in $\mathcal{A}_{n,N}=(\mathbb{C}_{\langle n \rangle} \otimes \mathbb{C}_{\langle n \rangle} )\oplus( \mathbb{C}_{\langle n \rangle} \boxtimes \mathbb{C}_{\langle n \rangle})$, being $\mathbb{C}_{\langle n \rangle} $ the free algebra generated by the $n$ Hermitian matrices of size $N$ (the flowing random variables) with multiplication of homogeneous elements in $\mathcal{A}_{n,N}$ given, for each $P,Q,U,W\in\mathbb{C}_{\langle n \rangle}$, by \begin{align*}(U \otimes W) \star ( P\otimes Q) &= PU \otimes WQ \,, & (U\boxtimes W) \star ( P\otimes Q) &=U \boxtimes PWQ \,, \\(U \otimes W) \star ( P\boxtimes Q) &= WPU \boxtimes Q \,,\ & (U\boxtimes W) \star ( P\boxtimes Q) &= \mathrm{Tr} (WP) U\boxtimes Q \,,\end{align*} which, together with the condition $(λU) \boxtimes W = U\boxtimes (λW) $ for each complex $λ$, fully define the symbol $\boxtimes$.

Hopf structures in the representation theory of direct products
Published • View PublicationBIB
Combinatorial Hopf algebras give a linear algebraic structure to infinite families of combinatorial objects, a technique further enriched by the categorification of these structure via the representation theory of families of algebras. This paper examines a fundamental construction in group theory, the direct product, and how it can be used to build representation theoretic Hopf algebras out of towers of groups. A key special case gives us the noncommutative symmetric functions NSym, but there are many things that we can say for the general Hopf algebras, including the structure of their character groups and a formula for the antipode.
