We introduce a natural partial order in structurally natural finite subsets the cobweb prefabs sets recently constructed by the present author. Whitney numbers of the second kind of the corresponding subposet which constitute Stirling-like numbers` triangular array are then calculated and the explicit formula for them is provided. Next - in the second construction - we endow the set sums of prefabiants with such an another partial order that their their bell like numbers include fibonacci triad sequences introduced recently by the present author in order to extend famous relation between binomial newton coefficients and fibonacci numbers onto the infinity of their relatives among which there are also the fibonacci triad sequences and binomial-like coefficients (incidence coefficients included).
Properties of four partial orders on standard Young tableaux
Let SYT_n be the set of all standard Young tableaux with n cells. After recalling the definitions of four partial orders, the weak, KL, geometric and chain orders on SYT_n and some of their crucial properties, we prove three main results: (i)Intervals in any of these four orders essentially describe the product in a Hopf algebra of tableaux defined by Poirier and Reutenauer. (ii) The map sending a tableau to its descent set induces a homotopy equivalence of the proper parts of all of these orders on tableaux with that of the Boolean algebra 2^{[n-1]}. In particular, the Möbius function of these orders on tableaux is (-1)^{n-3}. (iii) For two of the four orders, one can define a more general order on skew tableaux having fixed inner boundary, and similarly analyze their homotopy type and Möbius function.

Several natural partial orders on integral partitions, such as the embeddability, the stable embeddability, the bulk embeddability and the supermajorization, raise in the quantum computation, bin-packing and matrix analysis. We find the implications between these partial orders. For integral partitions whose entries are all powers of a fixed number $p$, we show that the embeddability is completely determined by the supermajorization order and we find an algorithm to determine the stable embeddability.

For a finite real reflection group $W$ with Coxeter element $γ$ we give a uniform proof that the closed interval, $[I, γ]$ forms a lattice in the partial order on $W$ induced by reflection length. The proof involves the construction of a simplicial complex which can be embedded in the type W simplicial generalised associahedron.

The monomial basis for polynomials in N variables is labeled by compositions. To each composition there is associated a hook-length product, which is a product of linear functions of a parameter. The zeroes of this product are related to "critical pairs" of compositions; a concept defined in this paper. This property can be described in an elementary geometric way; for example: consider the two compositions (2,7,8,2,0,0) and (5,1,2,5,3,3), then the respective ranks, permutations of the index set {1,2,...,6} sorting the compositions, are (3,2,1,4,5,6) and (1,6,5,2,3,4), and the two vectors of differences (between the compositions and the ranks, respectively) are (-3,6,6,-3,-3,-3) and (2,-4,-4,2,2,2), which are parallel, with ratio -3/2. For a given composition and zero of its hook-length product there is an algorithm for constructing another composition with the parallelism property and which is comparable to it in a certain partial order on compositions, derived from the dominance order. This paper presents the motivation from the theory of nonsymmetric Jack polynomials and the description of the algorithm, as well as the proof of its validity.

Combinatorial interpretation of the fibonomial coefficients as a number of choices of specific finite subsets of an infinite partially ordered set of not binomial type is proposed. This partially ordered set is here defined via characteristic matrix of the corresponding partial order relation . Relevance of the proposal to more general unification treatment is indicated.

The $k$-Young lattice $Y^k$ is a partial order on partitions with no part larger than $k$. This weak subposet of the Young lattice originated from the study of the $k$-Schur functions(atoms) $s_λ^{(k)}$, symmetric functions that form a natural basis of the space spanned by homogeneous functions indexed by $k$-bounded partitions. The chains in the $k$-Young lattice are induced by a Pieri-type rule experimentally satisfied by the $k$-Schur functions. Here, using a natural bijection between $k$-bounded partitions and $k+1$-cores, we establish an algorithm for identifying chains in the $k$-Young lattice with certain tableaux on $k+1$ cores. This algorithm reveals that the $k$-Young lattice is isomorphic to the weak order on the quotient of the affine symmetric group $\tilde S_{k+1}$ by a maximal parabolic subgroup. From this, the conjectured $k$-Pieri rule implies that the $k$-Kostka matrix connecting the homogeneous basis $\{h_\la\}_{\la\in\CY^k}$ to $\{s_\la^{(k)}\}_{\la\in\CY^k}$ may now be obtained by counting appropriate classes of tableaux on $k+1$-cores. This suggests that the conjecturally positive $k$-Schur expansion coefficients for Macdonald polynomials (reducing to $q,t$-Kostka polynomials for large $k$) could be described by a $q,t$-statistic on these tableaux, or equivalently on reduced words for affine permutations.

We consider two partial orders on standard Young tableaux. The first one is induced from the weak right Bruhat order on symmetric group by Robinson-Schensted algorithm. The second one is induced from the order on Young diagrams by considering a Young tableau as a chain of Young diagrams. We show that these two orders of completely different nature coincide on the subset of Young tableaux with 2 columns or with 2 rows. This fact has very interesting geometric implications for orbital varieties of nilpotent order 2 in sl(n).

For a semisimple Lie algebra g the orbit method attempts to assign representations of g to (coadjoint) orbits in g*. Orbital varieties are particular Lagrangian subvarieties of such orbits leading to highest weight representations of g. In sl(n) orbital varieties are described by Young tableaux. Inclusion relation on orbital variety closures defines a partial order on Young tableaux. Our aim is to describe this order. The paper is devoted to the combinatorial description of induced Duflo order on Young tableaux (the order generated by inclusion of generating subspaces of orbital varieties). This is a very interesting and complex combinatorial question. This is the first paper in the series. In Part II and Part III we use repeatedly the results of the paper as a basis for further study of orbital variety closures.

The usual, or type A_n, Tamari lattice is a partial order on T_n^A, the triangulations of an (n+3)-gon. We define a partial order on T_n^B, the set of centrally symmetric triangulations of a (2n+2)-gon. We show that it is a lattice, and that it shares certain other nice properties of the A_n Tamari lattice, and therefore that it deserves to be considered the B_n Tamari lattice. We define a bijection between T_n^B and the non-crossing partitions of type B_n defined by Reiner. For S any subset of [n], Reiner defined a pseudo-type BD^S_n, to which is associated a subset of the noncrossing partitions of type B_n. We show that the elements of T^B_n which correspond to the noncrossing partitions of type BD^S_n posess a lattice structure induced from their inclusion in T^B_n.
On optimizing discrete Morse functions

Forman introduced discrete Morse theory as a tool for studying CW complexes by essentially collapsing them onto smaller, simpler-to-understand complexes of critical cells in [Fo]. Chari reformulated discrete Morse theory for regular cell complexes in terms of acyclic matchings on face posets in [Ch]. This paper addresses two questions: (1) under what conditions may several gradient paths in a discrete Morse function simultaneously be reversed to cancel several pairs of critical cells, to further collapse the complex, and (2) how to use lexicographically first reduced expressions for permutations (in the sense of [Ed]) to make (1) practical for poset order complexes.
Applications include Cohen-Macaulayness of a new partial order, recently introduced by Remmel, on the symmetric group (by refinement on the underlying partitions into cycles) as well as a simple new proof of the homotopy type for intervals in the weak order for the symmetric group. Additional applications appear in [HW].

Let (W, S) be a Coxeter system. We investigate combinatorially certain partial orders, called extended Bruhat orders, on a (W x W)-set W(N,C), which depends on W, a subset N of S, and a component C of N. We determine the length of the maximal chains between two elements.
These posets generalize W equipped with its Bruhat order. They include the (W x W)-orbits of the Renner monoids of reductive algebraic monoids and of some infinite dimensional generalizations which are equipped with the partial orders obtained by the closure relations of the Bruhat and Birkhoff cells. They also include the (W x W)-orbits of certain posets obtained by generalizing the closure relation of the Bruhat cells of the wonderful compactification.

The elements of a finite partial order $P$ can be identified with the maximal indecomposable two-sided ideals of its incidence algebra $\A$, and then for two such ideals, $I\prec J \iff IJ \not=0$. This offers one way to recover a poset from its incidence algebra. In the course of proving the above, we classify all of the two-sided ideals of $\A$.
The asymptotic complexity of partial sorting -- How to learn large posets by pairwise comparisons
The expected number of pairwise comparisons needed to learn a partial order on n elements is shown to be at least n*n/4-o(n*n), and an algorithm is given that needs only n*n/4+o(n*n) comparisons on average. In addition, the optimal strategy for learning a poset with four elements is presented.

In "Hopf algebra of the planar binary trees", Adv. Math. 139 (1998), no. 2, 293--309, we constructed by induction a graded associative product on the vector space generated by the planar binary trees (resp. the permutations). In the present paper we prove an explicit formula for this product in terms of a partial order on the set of planar binary trees (resp. the weak Bruhat order on the symmetric groups).
On Lunn-Senior's Mathematical Model of Isomerism in Organic Chemistry. Part I
The aim of this paper is to present a generalization of Lunn-Senior's mathematical model of isomerism in organic chemistry. The main idea of Lunn and Senior is that if the type of isomerism is fixed, a molecule with a fixed skeleton and d univalent substituents has a symmetry group $W\leq S_d$ which is generally not the molecule's 3-dimensional symmetry group. The unit character of W induces a representation of the symmetric group $S_d$ which governs the combinatorics of the isomers of the given molecule. Lunn-Senior's thesis is that certain non-negative integers established by this representation are upper boundaries of the corresponding numbers, yielded by the experiment (and often coincide with them). Moreover, the authors define (in a particular case) a partial order among the objects of the model, such that some simple substitution reactions correspond to inequalities. These two groups of data determine the group W, and produce so called "type properties" of the molecule (properties which do not depend on the nature of the univalent substituents). Our hypothesis is that if we replace the unit character of $W$ by any one-dimensional character of $W$ (thus we count only a part of the isomers - those having a maximum property), we also get a type property of the molecule. An instance of that is the inventory of the stereoisomers called chiral pairs. The formalism can be generalized naturally and produces some preliminary chemical results. Especially the partial order is defined and studied in the general case and indicates the possible genetic relations among the corresponding molecules. An important result of E. Ruch which connects the dominance order among partitions and the existence of chiral pairs is obtained as a consequence of a more general statement.

We study two partial orders on $[x_1,...,x_n]$, the free abelian monoid on ${x_1,...,x_n}$. These partial orders, which we call the ``strongly stable'' and the ``stable'' partial order, are defined by the property that their filters are precisely the strongly stable and the stable monoid ideals. These ideals arise in the study of generic initial ideals.
A Pieri-type formula for isotropic flag manifolds

We give the formula for multiplying a Schubert class on an odd orthogonal or symplectic flag manifold by a special Schubert class pulled back from a Grassmannian of maximal isotropic subspaces. This is also the formula for multiplying a type $B$ (respectively, type $C$) Schubert polynomial by the Schur $P$-polynomial $p_m$ (respectively, the Schur $Q$-polynomial $q_m$). Geometric constructions and intermediate results allow us to ultimately deduce this from formulas for the classical flag manifold. These intermediate results are concerned with the Bruhat order of the Coxeter group ${\mathcal B}_\infty$, identities of the structure constants for the Schubert basis of cohomology, and intersections of Schubert varieties. We show these identities follow from the Pieri-type formula, except some `hidden symmetries' of the structure constants. Our analysis leads to a new partial order on the Coxeter group ${\mathcal B}_\infty$ and formulas for many of these structure constants.

Structure constants for the multiplication of Schubert polynomials by Schur symmetric polynomials are known to be related to the enumeration of chains in a new partial order on S_\infty, which we call the universal k-Bruhat order. Here we present a monoid M for this order and show that $M$ is analogous to the nil-Coxeter monoid for the weak order on S_\infty. For this, we develop a theory of reduced sequences for M. We use these sequences to give a combinatorial description of the structure constants above. We also give combinatorial proofs of some of the symmetry relations satisfied by these structure constants.
