On the extremal values of the cyclic continuants of Motzkin and Straus
In a 1983 paper, G. Ramharter asks what are the extremal arrangements for the cyclic analogues of the regular and semi-regular continuants first introduced by T.S. Motzkin and E.G. Straus in 1956. In this paper we answer this question by showing that for each set $A$ consisting of positive integers $1<a_1<a_2<\cdots <a_k$ and a $k$-term partition $P: n_1+n_2 + \cdots + n_k=n$, there exists a unique (up to reversal) cyclic word $x$ which maximizes (resp. minimizes) the regular cyclic continuant $K^{\circlearrowright}(\cdot)$ amongst all cyclic words over $A$ with Parikh vector $(n_1,n_2,\ldots,n_k)$. We also show that the same is true for the minimizing arrangement for the semi-regular cyclic continuant $\dot K^{\circlearrowright}(\cdot)$. As in the non-cyclic case, the main difficulty is to find the maximizing arrangement for the semi-regular continuant, which is not unique in general and may depend on the integers $a_1,\ldots,a_k$ and not just on their relative order. We show that if a cyclic word $x$ maximizes $\dot K^{\circlearrowright}(\cdot)$ amongst all permutations of $x$, then it verifies a strong combinatorial condition which we call the singular property. We develop an algorithm for constructing all singular cyclic words having a prescribed Parikh vector.
A formalism of abstract quantum field theory of summation of fat graphs
In this work we present a formalism of abstract quantum field theory for fat graphs and its realizations. This is a generalization of an earlier work for stable graphs. We define the abstract correlators $\mathcal F_g^μ$, abstract free energy $\mathcal F_g$, abstract partition function $\mathcal Z$, and abstract $n$-point functions $\mathcal W_{g,n}$ to be formal summations of fat graphs, and derive quadratic recursions using edge-contraction/vertex-splitting operators, including the abstract Virasoro constraints, an abstract cut-and-join type representation for $\mathcal Z$, and a quadratic recursion for $\mathcal W_{g,n}$ which resembles the Eynard-Orantin topological recursion. When considering the realization by the Hermitian one-matrix models, we obtain the Virasoro constraints, a cut-and-join representation for the partition function $Z_N^{\text{Herm}}$ which proves that $Z_N^{\text{Herm}}$ is a tau-function of KP hierarchy, a recursion for $n$-point functions which is known to be equivalent to the E-O recursion, and a Schrödinger type-equation which is equivalent to the quantum spectral curve. We conjecture that in general cases the realization of the quadratic recursion for $\mathcal W_{g,n}$ is the E-O recursion, where the spectral curve and Bergmann kernel are constructed from realizations of $\mathcal W_{0,1}$ and $\mathcal W_{0,2}$ respectively using the framework of emergent geometry.

Several authors have recently considered the smallest positive part missing from an integer partition, known as the minimum excludant or mex. In this work, we revisit and extend connections between Dyson's crank statistics, the mex, and Frobenius symbols, with a focus on combinatorial proof techniques. One highlight is a generating function expression for the number of partitions with a bounded crank that does not include an alternating sum. This leads to a combinatorial interpretation involving types of Durfee rectangles.
Generalizations of Dyson's Rank on Overpartitions

We introduce a statistic on overpartitions called the $\overline{k}$-rank. When there are no overlined parts, this coincides with the $k$-rank of a partition introduced by Garvan. Moreover, it reduces to the D-rank of an overpartition when $k=2$. The generating function for the $\overline{k}$-rank of overpartitions is given. We also establish a relation between the generating function of self-3-conjugate overpartitions and the tenth order mock theta functions $X(q)$ and $χ(q)$.
An identity in distribution between full-space and half-space log-gamma polymers

We prove an identity in distribution between two kinds of partition functions for the log-gamma directed polymer model: (1) the point-to-point partition function in a quadrant, (2) the point-to-line partition function in an octant. As an application, we prove that the point-to-line free energy of the log-gamma polymer in an octant obeys a phase transition depending on the strength of the noise along the boundary. This transition of (de)pinning by randomness was first predicted in physics by Kardar in 1985 and proved rigorously for zero temperature models by Baik and Rains in 2001. While it is expected to arise universally for models in the Kardar-Parisi-Zhang universality class, this is the first positive temperature model for which this transition can be rigorously established.
Crumby colorings -- red-blue vertex partition of subcubic graphs regarding a conjecture of Thomassen
Thomassen formulated the following conjecture: Every $3$-connected cubic graph has a red-blue vertex coloring such that the blue subgraph has maximum degree at most $1$ (that is, it consists of a matching and some isolated vertices) and the red subgraph has minimum degree at least $1$ and contains no $3$-edge path. Since all monochromatic components are small in this coloring and there is a certain irregularity, we call such a coloring \emph{crumby}. Recently, Bellitto, Klimošová, Merker, Witkowski and Yuditsky \cite{counter} constructed an infinite family refuting the above conjecture. Their prototype counterexample is $2$-connected, planar, but contains a $K_4$-minor and also a $5$-cycle. This leaves the above conjecture open for some important graph classes: outerplanar graphs, $K_4$-minor-free graphs, bipartite graphs. In this regard, we prove that $2$-connected outerplanar graphs, subdivisions of $K_4$ and $1$-subdivisions of cubic graphs admit crumby colorings. A subdivision of $G$ is {\it genuine} if every edge is subdivided at least once. We show that every genuine subdivision of any subcubic graph admits a crumby coloring. We slightly generalise some of these results and formulate a few conjectures.

In 2008 Karasev conjectured that for every set of $r$ blue lines, $r$ green lines, and $r$ red lines in the plane, there exists a partition of them into $r$ colorful triples whose induced triangles intersect. We disprove this conjecture for every $r$ and extend the counterexamples to higher dimensions.
An Extension of the Erdős-Ko-Rado Theorem to uniform set partitions

A $(k,\ell)$-partition is a set partition which has $\ell$ blocks each of size $k$. Two uniform set partitions $P$ and $Q$ are said to be partially $t$-intersecting if there exist blocks $P_{i}$ in $P$ and $Q_{j}$ in $Q$ such that $\left| P_{i} \cap Q_{j} \right|\geq t$. In this paper we prove a version of the Erdős-Ko-Rado theorem for partially $2$-intersecting $(k,\ell)$-partitions. In particular, we show for $\ell$ sufficiently large, the set of all $(k,\ell)$-partitions in which a block contains a fixed pair is the largest set of 2-partially intersecting $(k,\ell)$-partitions. For for $k=3$, we show this result holds for all $\ell$.
On Kostant's weight $q$-multiplicity formula for $\mathfrak{sp}_6(\mathbb{C})$

Kostant's weight $q$-multiplicity formula is an alternating sum over a finite group known as the Weyl group, whose terms involve the $q$-analog of Kostant's partition function. The $q$-analog of the partition function is a polynomial-valued function defined by $\wp_q(ξ)=\sum_{i=0}^k c_i q^i$, where $c_i$ is the number of ways the weight $ξ$ can be written as a sum of exactly $i$ positive roots of a Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$. The evaluation of the $q$-multiplicity formula at $q = 1$ recovers the multiplicity of a weight in an irreducible highest weight representation of $\mathfrak{g}$. In this paper, we specialize to the Lie algebra $\mathfrak{sp}_6(\mathbb{C})$ and we provide a closed formula for the $q$-analog of Kostant's partition function, which extends recent results of Shahi, Refaghat, and Marefat. We also describe the supporting sets of the multiplicity formula (known as the Weyl alternation sets of $\mathfrak{sp}_6(\mathbb{C})$), and use these results to provide a closed formula for the $q$-multiplicity for any pair of dominant integral weights of $\mathfrak{sp}_6(\mathbb{C})$. Throughout this work, we provide code to facilitate these computations.
Limits of Jensen polynomials for partitions and other sequences
It was discovered recently by Griffin, Ono, Rolen and Zagier that the Jensen polynomials associated to many sequences have Hermite polynomial limits. We develop this theory in detail, based on the log-polynomial property which is a refinement of log-concavity and log-convexity. Applications to various partition sequences are given. An application to the sequence of factorials leads naturally to evaluating limits of generalized Laguerre polynomials.
Fibonacci colored compositions and applications

We study compositions whose parts are colored by subsequences of the Fibonacci numbers. We give explicit bijections between Fibonacci colored compositions and several combinatorial objects, including certain restricted ternary and quaternary words, spanning trees in the ladder graph, unimodal sequences covering an initial interval, and ordered-consecutive partition sequences. Our approach relies on the basic idea of representing the colored compositions as tilings of an $n$-board whose tiles are connected, and sometimes decorated, according to a suitable combinatorial interpretation of the given coloring sequence.
Deformed Polynuclear Growth in $(1+1)$ Dimensions

We introduce and study a one parameter deformation of the polynuclear growth (PNG) in $(1+1)$-dimensions, which we call the $t$-PNG model. It is defined by requiring that, when two expanding islands merge, with probability $t$ they sprout another island on top of the merging location. At $t=0$, this becomes the standard (non-deformed) PNG model that, in the droplet geometry, can be reformulated through longest increasing subsequences of uniformly random permutations or through an algorithm known as patience sorting. In terms of the latter, the $t$-PNG model allows errors to occur in the sorting algorithm with probability $t$.
We prove that the $t$-PNG model exhibits one-point Tracy-Widom GUE asymptotics at large times for any fixed $t\in [0,1)$, and one-point convergence to the narrow wedge solution of the Kardar-Parisi-Zhang (KPZ) equation as $t$ tends to $1$. We further construct distributions for an external source that are likely to induce Baik-Ben Arous-Peche type phase transitions. The proofs are based on solvable stochastic vertex models and their connection to the determinantal point processes arising from Schur measures on partitions.
Dimers, networks, and cluster integrable systems

We prove that the class of cluster integrable systems constructed by Goncharov and Kenyon out of the dimer model on a torus coincides with the one defined by Gekhtman, Shapiro, Tabachnikov, and Vainshtein using Postnikov's perfect networks. To that end we express the characteristic polynomial of a perfect network's boundary measurement matrix in terms of the dimer partition function of the associated bipartite graph. Our main tool is flat geometry. Namely, we show that if a perfect network is drawn on a flat torus in such a way that the edges of the network are Euclidian geodesics, then the angles between the edges endow the associated bipartite graph with a canonical fractional Kasteleyn orientation. That orientation is then used to relate the partition function to boundary measurements.

A page (queue) with respect to a vertex ordering of a graph is a set of edges such that no two edges cross (nest), i.e., have their endpoints ordered in an ABAB-pattern (ABBA-pattern). A union page (union queue) is a vertex-disjoint union of pages (queues). The union page number (union queue number) of a graph is the smallest $ k $ such that there is a vertex ordering and a partition of the edges into $ k $ union pages (union queues). The local page number (local queue number) is the smallest $ k $ for which there is a vertex ordering and a partition of the edges into pages (queues) such that each vertex has incident edges in at most $ k $ pages (queues).
We present upper and lower bounds on these four parameters for the complete graph $ K_n $ on $ n $ vertices. In three cases we obtain the exact result up to an additive constant. In particular, the local page number of $ K_n $ is $ n/3 \pm O(1) $, while its local and union queue number is $ (1-1/\sqrt{2})n \pm O(1) $. The union page number of $ K_n $ is between $ n/3 - O(1) $ and $ 4n/9 + O(1) $.
Edge Partitions of Complete Geometric Graphs (Part 1)
In this paper, we disprove the long-standing conjecture that any complete geometric graph on $2n$ vertices can be partitioned into $n$ plane spanning trees. Our construction is based on so-called bumpy wheel sets. We fully characterize which bumpy wheels can and in particular which \emph{cannot} be partitioned into plane spanning trees (or even into arbitrary plane \emph{subgraphs}), including a complete description of all possible partitions (into plane spanning trees).
Furthermore, we show a sufficient condition for \emph{generalized wheels} to not admit a partition into plane spanning trees, and give a complete characterization when they admit a partition into plane spanning double stars.
The line graph of the crown graph is distance integral

The distance eigenvalues of a connected graph $G$ are the eigenvalues of its distance matrix $D(G)$. A graph is called distance integral if all of its distance eigenvalues are integers. Let $n \geq 3$ be an integer. A crown graph $Cr(n)$ is a graph obtained from the complete bipartite graph $K_{n,n}$ by removing a perfect matching. Let $L(Cr(n))$ denote the line graph of the crown graph $Cr(n)$. In this paper, by using the orbit partition method in algebraic graph theory, we determine the set of all distance eigenvalues of $L(Cr(n))$ and show that this graph is distance integral.

Motivated by the study of pattern avoidance in the context of permutations and ordered partitions, we consider the enumeration of weak-ordering chains obtained as leaves of certain restricted rooted trees. A tree of order $n$ is generated by inserting a new variable into each node at every step. A node becomes a leaf either after $n$ steps or when a certain stopping condition is met. In this paper we focus on conditions of size 2 ($x=y$, $x<y$, or $x\le y$) and several conditions of size 3. Some of the cases considered here lead to the study of descent statistics of certain `almost' pattern-avoiding permutations.

Biased multilinear maps of abelian groups
We adapt the theory of partition rank and analytic rank to the category of abelian groups. If $A_1, \dots, A_k$ are finite abelian groups and $φ: A_1 \times \cdots \times A_k \to \mathbf{T}$ is a multilinear map, where $\mathbf{T} = \mathbf{R}/\mathbf{Z}$, the bias of $φ$ is defined to be the average value of $\exp(i 2 πφ)$. If the bias of $φ$ is bounded away from zero we show that $φ$ is the sum of boundedly many multilinear maps each of which factors through the standard multiplication map of $\mathbf{Z}/q\mathbf{Z}$ for some bounded prime power $q$. Relatedly, if $F : A_1 \times \cdots \times A_{k-1} \to B$ is a multilinear map such that $\mathbf{P}(F = 0)$ is bounded away from zero, we show that $F$ is the sum of boundedly many multilinear functions of a particular form. These structure theorems generalize work of several authors in the elementary abelian case to the arbitrary abelian case. The set of all possible biases is also investigated.
Derivatives and Integrals of Polynomials Associated with Integer Partitions

Integer partitions express the different ways that a positive integer may be written as a sum of positive integers. Here we explore the analytic properties of a new polynomial $f_λ(x)$ that we call the partition polynomial for the partition $λ$, with the aim to learn new properties of partitions. We prove a recursive formula for the derivatives of $f_λ(x)$ involving Stirling numbers of the second kind, show that the set of integrals from 0 to 1 of a normalized version of $f_λ(x)$ is dense in $[0,1/2]$, pose a few open questions, and formulate a conjecture relating the integral to the length of the partition. We also provide specific examples throughout to support our speculation that an in-depth analysis of partition polynomials could further strengthen our understanding of partitions.
