A tripartite-circle drawing of a tripartite graph is a drawing in the plane, where each part of a vertex partition is placed on one of three disjoint circles, and the edges do not cross the circles. The tripartite-circle crossing number of a tripartite graph is the minimum number of edge crossings among all its tripartite-circle drawings. We determine the exact value of the tripartite-circle crossing number of $K_{a,b,n}$, where $a,b\leq 2$.

We give an FPTAS for computing the number of matchings of size $k$ in a graph $G$ of maximum degree $Δ$ on $n$ vertices, for all $k \le (1-δ)m^*(G)$, where $δ>0$ is fixed and $m^*(G)$ is the matching number of $G$, and an FPTAS for the number of independent sets of size $k \le (1-δ) α_c(Δ) n$, where $α_c(Δ)$ is the NP-hardness threshold for this problem. We also provide quasi-linear time randomized algorithms to approximately sample from the uniform distribution on matchings of size $k \leq (1-δ)m^*(G)$ and independent sets of size $k \leq (1-δ)α_c(Δ)n$.
Our results are based on a new framework for exploiting local central limit theorems as an algorithmic tool. We use a combination of Fourier inversion, probabilistic estimates, and the deterministic approximation of partition functions at complex activities to extract approximations of the coefficients of the partition function. For our results for independent sets, we prove a new local central limit theorem for the hard-core model that applies to all fugacities below $λ_c(Δ)$, the uniqueness threshold on the infinite $Δ$-regular tree.

We give combinatorial proofs of two types of duality for Grothendieck polynomials by constructing a unified combinatorial framework incorporating set-valued tableaux, musltiset-valued tableaux, reverse plane partitions and valued-set tableaux. Importantly, our proofs extend to proofs of these dualities for the refined Grothendieck polynomials. The second of these dualities was formerly unknown for the refined case.
Parametrizing the Ramsey theory of vector spaces I: Discrete spaces
We show that the Ramsey theory of block sequences in infinite-dimensional discrete vector spaces can be parametrized by perfect sets. As special cases, we prove combinatorial dichotomies for definable families of partitions and linear transformations on those spaces. We also consider the extent to which analogues of selective ultrafilters in this setting are preserved by Sacks forcing.

In 2016 Bessenrodt--Ono discovered an inequality addressing additive and multiplicative properties of the partition function. Generalization by several authors have been given; on partitions with rank in a given residue class by Hou--Jagadeesan and Males, on $k$-regular partitions by Beckwith--Bessenrodt, on $k$-colored partitions by Chern, Fu, Tang, and Heim--Neuhauser on their polynomization, and Dawsey--Masri on the Andrews ${\it spt}$-function. The proofs depend on non-trivial asymptotic formulas related to the circle method on one side, or a sophisticated combinatorial proof invented by Alanazi--Gagola--Munagi. We offer in this paper a new proof of the Bessenrodt--Ono inequality, which is built on a well-known recursion formula for partition numbers. We extend the proof to the result of Chern--Fu--Tang and its polynomization. Finally, we also obtain a new result.
An asymptotic lower bound on the number of bent functions

A Boolean function $f$ on $n$ variables is said to be a bent function if the absolute value of all its Walsh coefficients is $2^{n/2}$. Our main result is a new asymptotic lower bound on the number of Boolean bent functions. It is based on a modification of the Maiorana--McFarland family of bent functions and recent progress in the estimation of the number of transversals in latin squares and hypercubes. By-products of our proofs are the asymptotics of the logarithm of the numbers of partitions of the Boolean hypercube into $2$-dimensional affine and linear subspaces.

Riordan matrices are infinite lower triangular matrices determined by a pair of formal power series over the real or complex field. These matrices have been mainly studied as combinatorial objects with an emphasis placed on the algebraic or combinatorial structure. The present paper contributes to the linear algebraic discussion with an analysis of Riordan matrices by means of the interaction of the properties of formal power series with the linear algebra. Specifically, it is shown that if a Riordan matrix $A$ is an $n\times n$ pseudo-involution then the singular values of $A$ must come in reciprocal pairs. Moreover, we give a complete analysis of existence and nonexistence of the eigenvectors of Riordan matrices. This leads to a surprising partition of the group of Riordan matrices into matrices with three different types of eigenvectors. Finally, given a nonzero vector $v$, we investigate the Riordan matrices $A$ that stabilize the vector $v$, t i.e. $Av=v$.
Counting independent sets in amenable groups
Given a locally finite graph $Γ$, an amenable subgroup $G$ of graph automorphisms acting freely and almost transitively on its vertices, and a $G$-invariant activity function $λ$, consider the free energy $f_G(Γ,λ)$ of the hardcore model defined on the set of independent sets in $Γ$ weighted by $λ$.
Under the assumption that $G$ is finitely generated and its word problem can be solved in exponential time, we define suitable ensembles of hardcore models and prove the following: if $\|λ\|_\infty < λ_c(Δ)$, there exists a randomized $ε$-additive approximation scheme for $f_G(Γ,λ)$ that runs in time $\mathrm{poly}((1+ε^{-1})\lvert Γ/G \rvert)$, where $λ_c(Δ)$ denotes the critical activity on the $Δ$-regular tree. In addition, if $G$ has a finite index linearly ordered subgroup such that its algebraic past can be decided in exponential time, we show that the algorithm can be chosen to be deterministic. On the other hand, we observe that if $\|λ\|_\infty > λ_c(Δ)$, there is no efficient approximation scheme, unless $\mathrm{NP} = \mathrm{RP}$. This recovers the computational phase transition for the partition function of the hardcore model on finite graphs and provides an extension to the infinite setting.
As an application in symbolic dynamics, we use these results to develop efficient approximation algorithms for the topological entropy of subshifts of finite type with enough safe symbols, we obtain a representation formula of pressure in terms of random trees of self-avoiding walks, and we provide new conditions for the uniqueness of the measure of maximal entropy based on the connective constant of a particular associated graph.

A group $G$ admits an \textbf{\em $n$-partite digraphical representation} if there exists a regular $n$-partite digraph $Γ$ such that the automorphism group $\mathrm{Aut}(Γ)$ of $Γ$ satisfies the following properties: $\mathrm{Aut}(Γ)$ is isomorphic to $G$, $\mathrm{Aut}(Γ)$ acts semiregularly on the vertices of $Γ$ and the orbits of $\mathrm{Aut}(Γ)$ on the vertex set of $Γ$ form a partition into $n$ parts giving a structure of $n$-partite digraph to $Γ$.
In this paper, for every positive integer $n$, we classify the finite groups admitting an $n$-partite digraphical representation.

The dual braid monoid was introduced by Bessis in his work on complex reflection arrangements. The goal of this work is to show that Koszul duality provides a nice interplay between the dual braid monoid and the cluster complex introduced by Fomin and Zelevinsky. Firstly, we prove koszulity of the dual braid monoid algebra, by building explicitly the minimal free resolution of the ground field. This is done explicitly using some chains complexes defined in terms of the positive part of the cluster complex. Secondly, we derive various properties of the quadratic dual algebra. We show that it is naturally graded by the noncrossing partition lattice. We get an explicit basis, naturally indexed by positive faces of the cluster complex. Moreover, we find the structure constants via a geometric rule in terms of the cluster fan. Eventually, we realize this dual algebra as a quotient of a Nichols algebra. This latter fact makes a connection with results of Zhang, who used the same algebra to compute the homology of Milnor fibers of reflection arrangements.

In this paper we introduce a determinant-like map $det^{S^3}$ and study some of its properties. For this we define a graded vector space $Λ^{S^3}_V$ that has similar properties with the exterior algebra $Λ_V$ and the exterior GSC-operad $Λ^{S^2}_V$ from \cite{sta2}. When $dim(V_2)=2$ we show that $dim_k(Λ^{S^3}_{V_2}[6])=1$ which gives the existence and uniqueness of $det^{S^3}$. We also give an explicit formula for $det^{S^3}$ as a sum over certain $2$-partitions of the complete hypergraph $K_6^3$.
On Families of Planar DAGs with Constant Stack Number
A $k$-stack layout (or $k$-page book embedding) of a graph consists of a total order of the vertices, and a partition of the edges into $k$ sets of non-crossing edges with respect to the vertex order. The stack number of a graph is the minimum $k$ such that it admits a $k$-stack layout. In this paper we study a long-standing problem regarding the stack number of planar directed acyclic graphs (DAGs), for which the vertex order has to respect the orientation of the edges. We investigate upper and lower bounds on the stack number of several families of planar graphs: We improve the constant upper bounds on the stack number of single-source and monotone outerplanar DAGs and of outerpath DAGs, and improve the constant upper bound for upward planar 3-trees. Further, we provide computer-aided lower bounds for upward (outer-) planar DAGs.
Equitable partitions for Ramanajun graphs
For d-regular graph G, an edge-signing sigma:E(G) \rightarrow {-1,1} is called a good signing if the absolute eigenvalues of adjacency matrix are at most 2 \sqrt{d-1}. Bilu-Linial conjectured that for each regular graph there exists a good signing. In this paper, by using new concept "Equitable Partition", we solve the Bilu-Linial Conjecture for some cases. We show that how to find out a good signing for special complete graphs and lexicographic product of two graphs. In particular, if there exist two good signings for graph G, then we can find a good signing for a 2-lift of G.
From Trees to Barcodes and Back Again II: Combinatorial and Probabilistic Aspects of a Topological Inverse Problem

In this paper we consider two aspects of the inverse problem of how to construct merge trees realizing a given barcode. Much of our investigation exploits a recently discovered connection between the symmetric group and barcodes in general position, based on the simple observation that death order is a permutation of birth order. The first important outcome of our study is a clear combinatorial distinction between the space of phylogenetic trees (as defined by Billera, Holmes and Vogtmann) and the space of merge trees. Generic BHV trees on $n+1$ leaf nodes fall into $(2n-1)!!$ distinct strata, but the analogous number for merge trees is equal to the number of maximal chains in the lattice of partitions, i.e., $(n+1)!n!2^{-n}$. The second aspect of our study is the derivation of precise formulas for the distribution of tree realization numbers (the number of merge trees realizing a given barcode) when we assume that barcodes are sampled using a uniform distribution on the symmetric group. We are able to characterize some of the higher moments of this distribution, thanks in part to a reformulation in terms of Dirichlet convolution. This characterization provides a type of null hypothesis, apparently different from the distributions observed in real neuron data and opens the door to doing more precise science.

This paper is the sequel to ``$B_{n-1}$-bundles on the flag variety, I". We continue our study of the orbits of a Borel subgroup $B_{n-1}$ of $G_{n-1}=GL(n-1)$ (resp. $SO(n-1)$) acting on the flag variety $\mathcal{B}_{n}$ of $G=GL(n)$ (resp. $SO(n)$). We begin by using the results of the first paper to obtain a complete combinatorial model of the $B_{n-1}$-orbits on $\mathcal{B}_{n}$ in terms of partitions into lists. The model allows us to obtain explicit formulas for the number of orbits as well as the exponential generating functions for the sequences $\{|B_{n-1}\backslash \mathcal{B}_{n}|\}_{n\geq 1}$ . We then use the combinatorial description of the orbits to construct a canonical set of representatives of the orbits in terms of flags. These representatives allow us to understand an extended monoid action on $B_{n-1}\backslash \mathcal{B}_{n}$ using simple roots of both $\mathfrak{g}_{n-1}$ and $\mathfrak{g}$ and show that the closure ordering on $B_{n-1}\backslash \mathcal{B}_{n}$ is the standard ordering of Richardson and Springer.
Algebraic area enumeration of random walks on the honeycomb lattice

We study the enumeration of closed walks of given length and algebraic area on the honeycomb lattice. Using an irreducible operator realization of honeycomb lattice moves, we map the problem to a Hofstadter-like Hamiltonian and show that the generating function of closed walks maps to the grand partition function of a system of particles with exclusion statistics of order $g=2$ and an appropriate spectrum, along the lines of a connection previously established by two of the authors. Reinterpreting the results in terms of the standard Hofstadter spectrum calls for a mixture of $g=1$ (fermion) and $g=2$ exclusion whose physical meaning and properties require further elucidation. In this context we also obtain some unexpected Fibonacci sequences within the weights of the combinatorial factors appearing in the counting of walks.
Sharp upper and lower bounds on a restricted class of convex characters

Let $\mathcal{T}$ be an unrooted binary tree with $n$ distinctly labelled leaves. Deriving its name from the field of phylogenetics, a convex character on $\mathcal{T}$ is simply a partition of the leaves such that the minimal spanning subtrees induced by the blocks of the partition are mutually disjoint. In earlier work Kelk and Stamoulis (Advances in Applied Mathematics 84 (2017), pp. 34--46) defined $g_k(\mathcal{T})$ as the number of convex characters where each block has at least $k$ leaves. Exact expressions were given for $g_1$ and $g_2$, where the topology of $\mathcal{T}$ turns out to be irrelevant, and it was noted that for $k \geq 3$ topological neutrality no longer holds. In this article, for every $k \geq 3$ we describe tree topologies achieving the maximum and minimum values of $g_k$ and determine corresponding expressions and exponential bounds for $g_k$. Finally, we reflect briefly on possible algorithmic applications of these results.
Cone Types, Automata, and Regular Partitions in Coxeter Groups

In this article we introduce the notion of a \textit{regular partition} of a Coxeter group. We develop the theory of these partitions, and show that the class of regular partitions is essentially equivalent to the class of automata (not necessarily finite state) recognising the language of reduced words in the Coxeter group. As an application of this theory we prove that each cone type in a Coxeter group has a unique minimal length representative. This result can be seen as an analogue of Shi's classical result that each component of the Shi arrangement of an affine Coxeter group has a unique minimal length element. We further develop the theory of cone types in Coxeter groups by identifying the minimal set of roots required to express a cone type as an intersection of half-spaces. This set of \textit{boundary roots} is closely related to the elementary inversion sets of Brink and Howlett, and also to the notion of the base of an inversion set introduced by Dyer.
Quantum immanants, double Young-Capelli bitableaux and Schur shifted symmetric functions

In this paper are introduced two classes of elements in the enveloping algebra $\mathbf{U}(gl(n))$: the \emph{double Young-Capelli bitableaux} $[\ \fbox{$S \ | \ T$}\ ]$ and the \emph{central} \emph{Schur elements} $\mathbf{S}_λ(n)$, that act in a remarkable way on the highest weight vectors of irreducible Schur modules.
Any element $\mathbf{S}_λ(n)$ is the sum of all double Young-Capelli bitableaux $[\ \fbox{$S \ | \ S$}\ ]$, $S$ row (strictly) increasing Young tableaux of shape $\widetildeλ$. The Schur elements $\mathbf{S}_λ(n)$ are proved to be the preimages - with respect to the Harish-Chandra isomorphism - of the \emph{shifted Schur polynomials} $s_{λ|n}^* \in Λ^*(n)$. Hence, the Schur elements are the same as the Okounkov \textit{quantum immanants}, recently described by the present authors as linear combinations of \emph{Capelli immanants}. This new presentation of Schur elements/quantum immanants doesn't involve the irreducible characters of symmetric groups. The Capelli elements $\mathbf{H}_k(n)$ are column Schur elements and the Nazarov-Umeda elements $\mathbf{I}_k(n)$ are row Schur elements. The duality in $\boldsymbolζ(n)$ follows from a combinatorial description of the eigenvalues of the $\mathbf{H}_k(n)$ on irreducible modules that is {\it{dual}} (in the sense of shapes/partitions) to the combinatorial description of the eigenvalues of the $\mathbf{I}_k(n)$.
The passage $n \rightarrow \infty$ for the algebras $\boldsymbolζ(n)$ is obtained both as direct and inverse limit in the category of filtered algebras, via the \emph{Olshanski decomposition/projection}.
MacMahon Partition Analysis: A discrete approach to broken stick problems

We propose a discrete approach to solve problems on forming polygons from broken sticks, which is akin to counting polygons with sides of integer length subject to certain Diophantine inequalities. Namely, we use MacMahon's Partition Analysis to obtain a generating function for the size of the set of segments of a broken stick subject to these inequalities. In particular, we use this approach to show that for $n\geq k\geq 3$, the probability that a $k$-gon cannot be formed from a stick broken into $n$ parts is given by $n!$ over a product of linear combinations of partial sums of generalized Fibonacci numbers, a problem which proved to be very hard to generalize in the past.
