Colored stochastic vertex models with U-turn boundary
In this paper, we introduce a class of colored stochastic vertex models with U-turn right boundary. The vertex weights in the models satisfy the Yang-Baxter equations and the reflection equation. Based on these equations, we derive recursive relations for partition functions of the models.

A unified framework for the Expander Mixing Lemma for irregular graphs and its applications
A unified framework for the Expander Mixing Lemma for irregular graphs using adjacency eigenvalues is presented, as well as two new versions of it. While the existing Expander Mixing Lemmas for irregular graphs make use of the notion of volume (the sum of degrees within a vertex set), we instead propose to use the Perron eigenvector entries as vertex weights, which is a way to regularise the graph. This provides a new application of weight partitions of graphs. The new Expander Mixing Lemma versions are then applied to obtain several eigenvalue bounds for NP-hard parameters such as the zero forcing number, the vertex integrity and the routing number of a graph.

Subdivisions in dicritical digraphs with large order or digirth
Aboulker et al. proved that a digraph with large enough dichromatic number contains any fixed digraph as a subdivision. The dichromatic number of a digraph is the smallest order of a partition of its vertex set into acyclic induced subdigraphs. A digraph is dicritical if the removal of any arc or vertex decreases its dichromatic number. In this paper we give sufficient conditions on a dicritical digraph of large order or large directed girth to contain a given digraph as a subdivision. In particular, we prove that (i) for every integers $k,\ell$, large enough dicritical digraphs with dichromatic number $k$ contain an orientation of a cycle with at least $\ell$ vertices; (ii) there are functions $f,g$ such that for every subdivision $F^*$ of a digraph $F$, digraphs with directed girth at least $f(F^*)$ and dichromatic number at least $g(F)$ contain a subdivision of $F^*$, and if $F$ is a tree, then $g(F)=|V(F)|$; (iii) there is a function $f$ such that for every subdivision $F^*$ of $TT_3$ (the transitive tournament on three vertices), digraphs with directed girth at least $f(F^*)$ and minimum out-degree at least $2$ contain $F^*$ as a subdivision.

On the Structure and Generators of the $n$th-order Chromatic Algebra
This work investigates the intrinsic properties of the chromatic algebra, introduced by Fendley and Krushkal as a framework to study the chromatic polynomial. We prove that the dimension of the $n$th-order chromatic algebra is the $2n$th Riordan number, which exhibits exponential growth. We find a generating set of size $\binom{n}{2}$, and we provide a procedure to construct the basis from the generating set. We additionally provide proofs for fundamental facts about this algebra that appear to be missing from the literature. These include determining a representation of the chromatic algebra as noncrossing planar partitions and expanding the chromatic relations to include an edge case.
Partitions with fixed points in the sequence of first-column hook lengths
Published in Ann. Comb. (2024 online first) • View PublicationBIB
Recently, Blecher and Knopfmacher applied the notion of fixed points to integer partitions. This has already been generalized and refined in various ways such as $h$-fixed points for an integer parameter $h$ by Hopkins and Sellers. Here, we consider the sequence of first column hook lengths in the Young diagram of a partition and corresponding fixed hooks. We enumerate these, using both generating function and combinatorial proofs, and find that they match occurrences of part sizes equal to their multiplicity. We establish connections to work of Andrews and Merca on truncations of the pentagonal number theorem and classes of partitions partially characterized by certain minimal excluded parts (mex).

Truncated Theta Series Related to the Jacobi Triple Product Identity
The work of Andrews and Merca on the truncated Euler's pentagonal number theorem led to a resurgence in research on truncated theta series identities. In particular, Yee proved a truncated version of the Jacobi Triple Product (JTP) identity. Recently, Merca conjectured a stronger form of the truncated JTP identity. In this article we prove the first three cases of the conjecture and several related truncated identities. We prove combinatorially an identity related to the JTP identity which in particular cases reduces to identities conjectured by Merca and proved analytically by Krattenthaler, Merca and Radu. Moreover, we introduce a new combinatorial interpretation for the number of distinct 5-regular partitions of n.

Closed-Form Formula for the Partition Function and Related Functions
We develop a new closed-form arithmetic and recursive formula for the partition function and a generalization of Andrews' smallest parts (spt) function. Using the inclusion-exclusion principle, we additionally develop a formula for the not-relatively prime partition function (which counts the number of partitions that are not relatively prime). Moreover, we prove a theorem involving the greatest common divisor of partitions, which allows us to link partitions to prime numbers and lets us derive a formula for the relatively prime function. Lastly, we develop numerous new identities for Jordan's totient function of second order, Euler's totient function, and Dedekind's psi function.

Some comments on "On the generating function for intervals in Young's lattice" by Azam and Richmond
Published in The Electronic Journal of Combinatorics, vol 32, issue 3 (2025) • View PublicationBIB
Azam and Richmond arXiv:2107.09149 obtained a recursion for the generating function of \(P_λ(y)\), itself a generating function enumerating by length partitions in the lower ideal \([0,λ]\) in the Young lattice. We show that this recursion can be extended to a multi-graded version. This is done by interpreting the original problem as enumerating plane partitions with two rows. We can then use the well-developed theory of lattice points in polyhedral cones to determine some properties of the generating function. We also relate Azam and Richmond's result to those obtained by Andrews and Paule using MacMahons Omega-operator.
Quasi-Jacobi forms, Appell-Lerch functions, and false theta functions as q-brackets of functions on partitions
We study certain algebras of theta-like functions on partitions, for which the corresponding generating functions give rise to theta functions, quasi-Jacobi forms, Appell-Lerch sums, and false theta functions.

Counting symmetric and non-symmetric peaks in a set partition
The aim of this paper is to derive explicit formulas for two distinct values. The first is the total number of symmetric peaks in a set partition of $[n]$ with exactly $k$ blocks, and the second one is the total number of non-symmetric peaks in a set partition of $[n]$ with exactly $k$ blocks. We represent these results in two ways. First by using the theory of generating functions, and the second by using combinatorial tools.

On the connected (sub)partition polytope
Let $k$ be a positive integer and let $G$ be a graph with $n$ vertices. A connected $k$-subpartition of $G$ is a collection of $k$ pairwise disjoint sets (a.k.a. classes) of vertices in $G$ such that each set induces a connected subgraph. The connected $k$-subpartition polytope of $G$, denoted by $\poly(G,k)$, is defined as the convex hull of the incidence vectors of all connected $k$-subpartitions of $G$. Many applications arising in off-shore oil-drilling, forest planning, image processing, cluster analysis, political districting, police patrolling, and biology are modeled in terms of finding connected (sub)partitions of a graph. This study focuses on the facial structure of~$\poly(G,k)$ and the computational complexity of the corresponding separation problems. We first propose a set of valid inequalities having non-zero coefficients associated with a single class that extends and generalizes the ones in the literature of related problems, show sufficient conditions for these inequalities to be facet-defining, and design a polynomial-time separation algorithm for them. We also devise two sets of inequalities that consider multiple classes, prove when they define facets, and study the computational complexity of associated separation problems. Finally, we report on computational experiments showing the usefulness of the proposed inequalities.

A composition method for neat formulas of chromatic symmetric functions
We develop a composition method to unearth positive $e_I$-expansions of chromatic symmetric functions $X_G$, where the subscript $I$ stands for compositions rather than integer partitions. Using this method, we derive positive and neat $e_I$-expansions for the chromatic symmetric functions of tadpoles, barbells and generalized bulls, and establish the $e$-positivity of hats. We also obtain a compact ribbon Schur analog for the chromatic symmetric function of cycles.

On the 2D Yang-Mills/Hurwitz Correspondence
In this paper, we show that in the large $N$ limit two-dimensional Yang-Mills theory with $U(N)$ gauge group becomes mixed Hurwitz theory, in the sense that the $1/N$ expansion of the chiral partition function receives contributions from both classical and monotone Hurwitz theory for all but finitely many compact orientable spacetimes.

An infinite family of counterexamples to a conjecture on distance magic labeling
This work is about a partition problem which is an instance of the distance magic graph labeling problem. Given positive integers $n,k$ and $p_1\le p_2\le \cdots\le p_k$ such that $p_1+\cdots+p_k=n$ and $k$ divides $\sum_{i=1}^ni$, we study the problem of characterizing the cases where it is possible to find a partition of the set $\{1,2,\ldots,n\}$ into $k$ subsets of respective sizes $p_1,\dots,p_k$, such that the element sum in each subset is equal. Using a computerized search we found examples showing that the necessary condition, $\sum_{i=1}^{p_1+\cdots+p_j} (n-i+1)\ge j{\binom{n+1}{2}}/k$ for all $j=1,\ldots,k$, is not generally sufficient, refuting a past conjecture. Moreover, we show that there are infinitely many such counter-examples. The question whether there is a simple characterization is left open and for all we know the corresponding decision problem might be NP-complete.

Some unimodal sequences of Kronecker coefficients
Published • View PublicationBIB
We conjecture unimodality for some sequences of generalized Kronecker coefficients and prove it for partitions with at most two columns. The proof is based on a hard Lefschetz property for corresponding highest weight spaces. We also study more general Lefschetz properties, show implications to a higher-dimensional analogue of the Alon--Tarsi conjecture on Latin squares and give related positivity results.

Symmetric noncrossing partitions of an annulus with double points
For affine Coxeter groups of affine types $\tilde D$ and $\tilde B$, we model the interval $[1,c]_T$ in the absolute order by symmetric noncrossing partitions of an annulus with one or two double points. In type $\tilde B$ (and \emph{almost} in type $\tilde D$), the diagrams also model the larger lattice defined by McCammond and Sulway.

Triangular partitions: enumeration, structure, and generation
Published • View PublicationBIB
A triangular partition is a partition whose Ferrers diagram can be separated from its complement (as a subset of $\mathbb{N}^2$) by a straight line. Having their origins in combinatorial number theory and computer vision, triangular partitions have been studied from a combinatorial perspective by Onn and Sturmfels, and by Corteel et al. under the name plane corner cuts, and more recently by Bergeron and Mazin. In this paper we derive new enumerative, geometric and algorithmic properties of such partitions. We give a new characterization of triangular partitions and the cells that can be added or removed while preserving the triangular condition, and use it to describe the Möbius function of the restriction of Young's lattice to triangular partitions. We obtain a formula for the number of triangular partitions whose Young diagram fits inside a square, deriving, as a byproduct, a new proof of Lipatov's enumeration theorem for balanced words. Finally, we present an algorithm that generates all the triangular partitions of a given size, which is significantly more efficient than previous ones and allows us to compute the number of triangular partitions of size up to $10^5$.

A New Series for Rogers-Ramanujan-Gordon Identities when k = 3
In this paper, we introduce a new series of Rogers-Ramanujan-Gordon partitions when k = 3. The combinatorial interpretation of the series is given by base partition, forward moves and backward moves. We conclude the paper with future research questions related to the generalization of this approach.
Bialternant formula for Schur polynomials with repeating variables
Published in Linear and Multilinear Algebra, 1-35 (2025) • View PublicationBIB
We consider polynomials of the form $\operatorname{s}_λ(y_1^{[\varkappa_1]},\ldots,y_n^{[\varkappa_n]})$, where $λ$ is an integer partition, $\operatorname{s}_λ$ is the Schur polynomial associated to $λ$, and $y_j^{[\varkappa_j]}$ denotes $y_j$ repeated $\varkappa_j$ times. We represent $\operatorname{s}_λ(y_1^{[\varkappa_1]},\ldots,y_n^{[\varkappa_n]})$ as a quotient whose the denominator is the determinant of the confluent Vandermonde matrix, and the numerator is the determinant of some generalized confluent Vandermonde matrix. We give three algebraic proofs of this formula.

Lattice paths and Rogers--Ramanujan--Gordon type overpartitions
In this paper, we establish a connection between Rogers-Ramanujan-Gordon type overpartitions to lattice paths with four kinds of unitary steps. By establishing the bijective relationship between overpartitions and lattice paths, we demonstrate that the theorems provided by Chen, Sang and Shi can be formulated in the form of lattice paths. Subsequently, inspired by Andrews' work on parity in partition identities and its related implications, we impose parity constraints on lattice paths and present some novel discoveries. By leveraging the parity outcomes within lattice paths, we also revisit overpartitions to derive results pertaining to overpartitions with parity considerations.
