Denham, Suciu and Panov, Ray computed ranks of homotopy groups and Poincaré series of a moment-angle-complex $\mathcal Z(\mathcal K$) / Davis-Januzskiewicz space $DJ(\mathcal K)$ associated to a flag simplicial complex $\mathcal K$. In this note we revisit these results and interpret them as polynomial bounds on the face numbers of an arbitrary simplicial flag complex.

In recent work, Elias and Hogancamp develop a recurrence for the Poincaré series of the triply graded Hochschild homology of certain links, one of which is the $(n,n)$ torus link. In this case, Elias and Hogancamp give a combinatorial formula for this homology that is reminiscent of the combinatorics of the modified Macdonald polynomial eigenoperator $\nabla$. We give a combinatorial formula for the homologies of all links considered by Elias and Hogancamp. Our first formula is not easily computable, so we show how to transform it into a computable version. Finally, we conjecture a direct relationship between the $(n,n)$ torus link case of our formula and the symmetric function $\nabla p_{1^n}$.

We prove that the operad of mock partially associative $n$-ary algebras is not Koszul, as conjectured by the second and the third author in 2009, and utilise the Zeilberger's algorithm for hypergeometric summation to demonstrate that non-Koszulness of that operad cannot be established by hunting for negative coefficients in the inverse of its Poincaré series.
Randomly juggling backwards

We recall the directed graph of _juggling states_, closed walks within which give juggling patterns, as studied by Ron Graham in [w/Chung, w/Butler]. Various random walks in this graph have been studied before by several authors, and their equilibrium distributions computed. We motivate a random walk on the reverse graph (and an enrichment thereof) from a very classical linear algebra problem, leading to a particularly simple equilibrium: a Boltzmann distribution closely related to the Poincaré series of the b-Grassmannian in infinite-dimensional space.
We determine the most likely asymptotic state in the limit of many balls, where in the limit the probability of a 0-throw is kept fixed.

Explicit formulas for computation of the Poincaré series for the algebras of joint $SL_2$-invariants and covariants of $n$ linear forms in terms of Narayana polynomials are found. Also, for these algebras we calculate the degrees and asymptotic behavious of the degrees.

The deviations of a graded algebra are a sequence of integers that determine the Poincare series of its residue field and arise as the number of generators of certain DG algebras. In a sense, deviations measure how far a ring is from being a complete intersection. In this paper we study extremal deviations among those of algebras with a fixed Hilbert series. In this setting, we prove that, like the Betti numbers, deviations do not decrease when passing to an initial ideal and are maximized by the Lex-segment ideal. We also prove that deviations grow exponentially for Golod rings and for certain quadratic monomial algebras.

We describe the algebra of invariants of the vacuum module associated with the affinization of the Lie superalgebra $\mathfrak{gl}(1|1)$. We give a formula for its Hilbert--Poincaré series in a fermionic (cancellation-free) form which turns out to coincide with the generating function of the plane partitions over the $(1,1)$-hook. Our arguments are based on a super version of the Beilinson--Drinfeld--Raïs--Tauvel theorem which we prove by producing an explicit basis of invariants of the symmetric algebra of polynomial currents associated with $\mathfrak{gl}(1|1)$. We identify the invariants with affine supersymmetric polynomials via a version of the Chevalley theorem.

Let $(W,S)$ be a Coxeter system and write $P_W(q)$ for its Poincaré series. Lusztig has shown that the quotient $P_W(q^2)/P_W(q)$ is equal to a certain power series $L_{W}(q)$, defined by specializing one variable in the generating function recording the lengths and absolute lengths of the involutions in $W$. The simplest inductive method of proving this result for finite Coxeter groups suggests a natural bivariate generalization $L^J_W(s,q) \in \mathbb{Z}[[s,q]]$ depending on a subset $J\subset S$. This new power series specializes to $L_W(q)$ when $s=-1$ and is given explicitly by a sum of rational functions over the involutions which are minimal length representatives of the double cosets of the parabolic subgroup $W_J$ in $W$. When $ W$ is an affine Weyl group, we consider the renormalized power series $T_{ W}(s,q) = L^J_W(s,q) / L_W(q)$ with $J$ given by the generating set of the corresponding finite Weyl group. We show that when $W$ is an affine Weyl group of type $A$, the power series $T_W(s,q)$ is actually a polynomial in $s$ and $q$ with nonnegative coefficients, which turns out to be a $q$-analogue recently studied by Cigler of the Chebyshev polynomials of the first kind, arising in a completely different context.
Frobenius complexes and the homotopy colimit of a diagram of posets over a poset
An affine monoid is an additive monoid which is cancellative, pointed and finitely generated. An affine monoid $Λ$ has the partial order defined by $λ\le λ+ μ$. The Frobenius complex is the order complex of an open interval of $Λ$ with respect to this partial order. The reduced homology of the Frobenius complex is related to the torsion group of the monoid algebra $K[Λ]$. In this paper, we pay attention to homotopy types of Frobenius complexes, and we express the homotopy types of the Frobenius complexes of $Λ$ in terms of those of $Λ_1$ and $Λ_2$ when $Λ$ is an affine monoid obtained by gluing two affine monoids $Λ_1$ and $Λ_2$ with one relation. We also state an application to the Poincaré series of the torsion group of the monoid algebra.
On the Poincaré series of Kac-Moody Lie algebras
In this paper, we discuss the Poincaré series of Kac-Moody Lie algebras, especially for indefinite type. Firstly, we compute the Poincaré series of certain indefinite Kac-Moody Lie algebras whose Cartan matrices have the same type of $2\times 2$ principal sub-matrices. Secondly, we show that the Poincaré series of Kac-Moody Lie algebras satisfy certain interesting properties. Lastly we give some applications of the Poincaré series to other fields. Particularly we construct some counter examples to a conjecture of Victor Kac\cite{Kac_85} and a conjecture of Chapavalov, Leites and Stekolshchik\cite{CDR_10}.
A Unified Combinatorial Approach to Several Poincare Series Identities
Mendes recently conjectured an identity simplifying the Poincaré series of the space of equivariant polynomial maps from $\mathbb{R}^{n}$ to a subrepresentation of $Sym^{2}(\mathbb{R}^{n})$. We show how to prove this identity using a fairly simple integer partition bijection. First, we give a bijective proof of a similar, well-known identity from representation theory. We then show that this bijection can be generalized to prove other Poincaré series identities, including a version of the identity conjectured by Mendes as well as refinements of it.

Given a Coxeter system (W,S) equipped with an involutive automorphism T, the set of twisted identities is i(T) = {T(w)^{-1}w : w \in W}. We point out how i(T) shows up in several contexts and prove that if there is no s \in S such that sT(s) is of odd order greater than 1, then the Bruhat order on i(T) is a graded poset with rank function r given by halving the Coxeter length. Under the same condition, it is shown that the order complexes of the open intervals either are PL spheres or acyclic over the integers. In the general case, contractibility is shown for certain classes of intervals. Furthermore, we demonstrate that sometimes these posets are not graded. For the Poincaré series of i(T), i.e. its generating function with respect to r, a factorisation phenomenon is discussed.

In this note, we identify a natural class of subsets of affine Weyl groups whose Poincare series are rational functions. This class includes the sets of minimal coset representatives of reflection subgroups. As an application, we construct a generalization of the classical length-descent generating function, and prove its rationality.
Algebraic Combinatorics of Magic Squares
We describe how to construct and enumerate Magic squares, Franklin squares, Magic cubes, and Magic graphs as lattice points inside polyhedral cones using techniques from Algebraic Combinatorics. The main tools of our methods are the Hilbert Poincare series to enumerate lattice points and the Hilbert bases to generate lattice points. We define polytopes of magic labelings of graphs and digraphs, and give a description of the faces of the Birkhoff polytope as polytopes of magic labelings of digraphs.

Let $Δ$ be a finite set of nonzero linear forms in several variables with coefficients in a field $\mathbf K$ of characteristic zero. Consider the $\mathbf K$-algebra $R(Δ)$ of rational functions on V which are regular outside $\bigcup_{α\inΔ} \kerα$. Then the ring $R(Δ)$ is naturally doubly filtered by the degrees of denominators and of numerators. In this paper we give an explicit combinatorial formula for the Poincaré series in two variables of the associated bigraded vector space $\bar{R}(Δ)$. This generalizes the main theorem of Terao, H.: Algebras generated by reciprocals of linear forms, to appear in J.Algebra (arXiv:math.CO/0105095).

Let $Δ$ be a finite set of nonzero linear forms in several variables with coefficients in a field $\mathbf K$ of characteristic zero. Consider the $\mathbf K$-algebra $C(Δ)$ of rational functions generated by $\{1/α\mid α\in Δ\}$. Then the ring $\partial(V)$ of differential operators with constant coefficients naturally acts on $C(Δ)$. We study the graded $\partial(V)$-module structure of $C(Δ)$. We especially find standard systems of minimal generators and a combinatorial formula for the Poincaré series of $C(Δ)$. Our proofs are based on a theorem by Brion-Vergne [brv1] and results by Orlik-Terao [ort2}.
