We study the Gnedin-Kingman graph, which corresponds to Pieri's rule for the monomial basis $\{M_λ\}$ in the algebra $\mathrm{QSym}$ of quasisymmetric functions. The paper contains a detailed announcement of results concerning the classification of indecomposable semifinite harmonic functions on the Gnedin-Kingman graph. For these functions, we also establish a multiplicativity property, which is an analog of the Vershik-Kerov ring theorem.
Parametric restrictions on quasi-symmetric designs

In this paper, we attach several new invariants to connected strongly regular graphs (excepting conference graphs on non-square number of vertices) : one invariant called the discriminant, and a p-adic invariant corresponding to each prime number p. We prove parametric restrictions on quasi-symmetric 2-designs with a given connected block graph $G$ and a given defect (absolute difference of the two intersection numbers) solely in terms of the defect and the parameters of $G$, including these new invariants. This is a natural analogue of Schutzenberger's Theorem and the Shrikhande-Chowla-Ryser theorem. This theorem is effective when these graph invariants can be explicitly computed. We do this for complete multipartite graphs, co-triangular graphs, symplectic non-orthogonality graphs (over the field of order $2$) and the Steiner graphs, yielding explicit restrictions on the parameters of quasi-symmetric 2-designs whose block graphs belong to any of these four classes.
Tight quasi-symmetric designs
I give an elementary proof that a quasi-symmetric design without repeated blocks on $v$ points has at most $v\choose2$ blocks, with equality if and only if it is a tight $4$-design.

We construct modules of the $0$-Hecke algebra whose images under the quasisymmetric characteristic map are the Young row-strict quasisymmetric Schur functions. This provides a representation-theoretic interpretation of this basis of quasisymmetric functions, answering a question of Mason and Niese (2015). Additionally, we classify when these modules are indecomposable.
Renormalization of quasisymmetric functions
As a natural basis of the Hopf algebra of quasisymmetric functions, monomial quasisymmetric functions are formal power series defined from compositions. The same definition applies to left weak compositions, while leads to divergence for other weak compositions. We adapt the method of renormalization in quantum field theory, in the framework of Connes and Kreimer, to deal with such divergency. This approach defines monomial quasisymmetric functions for any weak composition as power series while extending the quasi-shuffle (stuffle) relation satisfied by the usual quasisymmetric functions. The algebra of renormalized quasisymmetric functions thus obtained turns out to be isomorphic to the quasi-shuffle algebra of weak compositions, giving the former a natural Hopf algebra structure and the latter a power series realization. This isomorphism also gives the free commutative Rota-Baxter algebra a power series realization, in support of a suggestion of Rota that Rota-Baxter algebra should provide a broad context for generalizations of symmetric functions.

The distribution of Coxeter descents and block number over the set of fully commutative elements in the hyperoctahedral group $B_n$, $\FC(B_n)$, is studied in this paper. We prove that the associated Chow quasi-symmetric generating function is equal to a non-negative sum of products of two Schur functions. The proof involves a decomposition of $\FC(B_n)$ into a disjoint union of two-sided Barbash-Vogan combinatorial cells, a type $B$ extension of Rubey's descent preserving involution on $321$-avoiding permutations and a detailed study of the intersection of $\FC(B_n)$ with $S_n$-cosets which yields a new decomposition of $\FC(B_n)$ into disjoint subsets called fibers. We also compare two different type $B$ Schur-positivity notions, arising from works of Chow and Poirier
A domino tableau-based view on type B Schur-positivity

Over the past years, major attention has been drawn to the question of identifying Schur-positive sets, i.e. sets of permutations whose associated quasisymmetric function is symmetric and can be written as a non-negative sum of Schur symmetric functions. The set of arc permutations, i.e. the set of permutations $π$ in $S_n$ such that for any $1\leq j \leq n$, $\{π(1),π(2),\dots,π(j)\}$ is an interval in $\mathbb{Z}_n$ is one of the most noticeable examples. This paper introduces a new type B extension of Schur-positivity to signed permutations based on Chow's quasisymmetric functions and generating functions for domino tableaux. As an important characteristic, our development is compatible with the works of Solomon regarding the descent algebra of Coxeter groups. In particular, we design descent preserving bijections between signed arc permutations and sets of domino tableaux to show that they are indeed type B Schur-positive.
The Rank-Generating Functions of Upho Posets

Upper homogeneous finite type (upho) posets are a large class of partially ordered sets with the property that the principal order filter at every vertex is isomorphic to the whole poset. Well-known examples include k-array trees, the grid graphs, and the Stern poset. Very little is known about upho posets in general. In this paper, we construct upho posets with Schur-positive Ehrenborg quasisymmetric functions, whose rank-generating functions have rational poles and zeros. We also categorize the rank-generating functions of all planar upho posets. Finally, we prove the existence of an upho poset with uncomputable rank-generating function.

The quasisymmetic Macdonald polynomials $G_γ(X; q, t)$ were recently introduced by the first and second authors with Haglund, Mason, and Williams in [3] to refine the symmetric Macdonald polynomials $P_λ(X; q, t)$ with the property that $G_γ(X; 0, 0)$ equals $QS_γ(X)$, the quasisymmetric Schur polynomial of [9]. We derive an expansion for $G_γ(X; q, t)$ in the fundamental basis of quasisymmetric functions.

Let $P$ be a poset, $inc(P)$ its incomparability graph, and $X_{inc(P)}$ the corresponding chromatic symmetric function, as defined by Stanley in {\em Adv. Math.}, {\bf 111} (1995) pp.~166--194. Certain conditions on $P$ imply that the expansions of $X_{inc(P)}$ in standard symmetric function bases yield coefficients which have simple combinatorial interpretations. By expressing these coefficients as character evaluations, we extend several of these interpretations to {\em all} posets $P$. Consequences include new combinatorial interpretations of the permanent and other immanants of totally nonnegative matrices, and of the sum of elementary coefficients in the Shareshian-Wachs chromatic quasisymmetric function $X_{inc(P),q}$ when $P$ is a unit interval order.

We study some combinatorial properties of higher-dimensional partitions which generalize plane partitions. We present a natural bijection between $d$-dimensional partitions and $d$-dimensional arrays of nonnegative integers. This bijection has a number of important applications. We introduce a statistic on $d$-dimensional partitions, called the corner-hook volume, whose generating function has the formula of MacMahon's conjecture. We obtain multivariable formulas whose specializations give analogues of various formulas known for plane partitions. We also introduce higher-dimensional analogues of dual Grothendieck polynomials which are quasisymmetric functions and whose specializations enumerate higher-dimensional partitions of a given shape. Finally, we show probabilistic connections with a directed last passage percolation model in $\mathbb{Z}^d$.
The projective cover of tableau-cyclic indecomposable $H_n(0)$-modules

Let $α$ be a composition of $n$ and $σ$ a permutation in $\mathfrak{S}_{\ell(α)}$. This paper concerns the projective covers of $H_n(0)$-modules $\mathcal{V}_α$, $X_α$ and $\mathbf{S}^σ_α$, which categorify the dual immaculate quasisymmetric function, the extended Schur function, and the quasisymmetric Schur function when $σ$ is the identity, respectively. First, we show that the projective cover of $\mathcal{V}_α$ is the projective indecomposable module $\mathbf{P}_α$ due to Norton, and $X_α$ and the $φ$-twist of the canonical submodule $\mathbf{S}^σ_{β,C}$ of $\mathbf{S}^σ_β$ for $(β,σ)$'s satisfying suitable conditions appear as $H_n(0)$-homomorphic images of $\mathcal{V}_α$. Second, we introduce a combinatorial model for the $φ$-twist of $\mathbf{S}^σ_α$ and derive a series of surjections starting from $\mathbf{P}_α$ to the $φ$-twist of $\mathbf{S}^{\mathrm{id}}_{α,C}$. Finally, we construct the projective cover of every indecomposable direct summand $\mathbf{S}^σ_{α, E}$ of $\mathbf{S}^σ_α$. As a byproduct, we give a characterization of triples $(σ, α, E)$ such that the projective cover of $\mathbf{S}^σ_{α, E}$ is indecomposable.
Reconstructing Rooted Trees From Their Strict Order Quasisymmetric Functions
Determining whether two graphs are isomorphic is an important and difficult problem in graph theory. One way to make progress towards this problem is by finding and studying graph invariants that distinguish large classes of graphs. Stanley conjectured that his chromatic symmetric function distinguishes all trees, which has remained unresolved. Recently, Hasebe and Tsujie introduced an analogue of Stanley's function for posets, called the strict order quasisymmetric function, and proved that it distinguishes all rooted trees. In this paper, we devise a procedure to explicitly reconstruct a rooted tree from its strict order quasisymmetric function by sampling a finite number of terms. The procedure not only provides a combinatorial proof of the result of Hasebe and Tsujie, but also tracks down the representative terms of each rooted tree that distinguish it from other rooted trees.
On Quasisymmetric Functions with Two Bordering Variables
We extend past results on a family of formal power series $K_{n, Λ}$, parameterized by $n$ and $Λ\subseteq [n]$, that largely resemble quasisymmetric functions. This family of functions was conjectured to have the property that the product $K_{n, Λ}K_{m, Ω}$ of any two functions $K_{n, Λ}$ and $K_{m, Ω}$ from the family can be expressed as a linear combination of other functions from the family. In this paper, we show that this is indeed the case and that the span of the $K_{n, Λ}$'s forms an algebra. We also provide techniques for examining similar families of functions and a formula for the product $K_{n, Λ}K_{m, Ω}$ when $n=1$.

We seek simple conditions on a pair of labeled posets that determine when the difference of their $(P,ω)$-partition enumerators is $F$-positive, i.e., positive in Gessel's fundamental basis. This is a quasisymmetric analogue of the extensively studied problem of finding conditions on a pair of skew shapes that determine when the difference of their skew Schur functions is Schur-positive. We determine necessary conditions and separate sufficient conditions for $F$-positivity, and show that a broad operation for combining posets preserves positivity properties. We conclude with classes of posets for which we have conditions that are both necessary and sufficient.

For an indifference graph $G$ we define a symmetric function of increasing spanning forests of $G$. We prove that this symmetric function satisfies certain linear relations, which are also satisfied by the chromatic quasisymmetric function and unicellular LLT polynomials. As a consequence we give a combinatorial interpretation of the coefficients of the LLT polynomial in the elementary basis (up to a factor of a power of $(q-1)$), strengthening the description given by Alexandersson and Sulzgruber.
Combinatorial Hopf algebras in noncommutative probabilility
We prove that the generalized moment-cumulant relations introduced in [arXiv:1711.00219] are given by the action of the Eulerian idempotents on the Solomon-Tits algebras, whose direct sum builds up the Hopf algebra of Word Quasi-Symmetric Functions $\WQSym$. We prove $t$-analogues of these identities (in which the coefficient of $t$ gives back the original version), and a similar $t$-analogue of Goldberg's formula for the coefficients of the Hausdorff series. This amounts to the determination of the action of all the Eulerian idempotents on a product of exponentials.

In this article we show how to compute the chromatic quasisymmetric function of indifference graphs from the modular law introduced by Guay-Paquet. We provide an algorithm which works for any function that satisfies this law, such as unicellular LLT polynomials. When the indifference graph has bipartite complement it reduces to a planar network, in this case, we prove that the coefficients of the chromatic quasisymmetric function in the elementary basis are positive unimodal polynomials and characterize them as certain $q$-hit numbers (up to a factor). Finally, we discuss the logarithmic concavity of the coefficients of the chromatic quasisymmetric function.

We present several new and compact formulas for the modified and integral form of the Macdonald polynomials, building on the compact "multiline queue" formula for Macdonald polynomials due to Corteel, Mandelshtam, and Williams. We also introduce a new quasisymmetric analogue of Macdonald polynomials. These "quasisymmetric Macdonald polynomials" refine the (symmetric) Macdonald polynomials and specialize to the quasisymmetric Schur polynomials defined by Haglund, Luoto, Mason, and van Willigenburg.
A combinatorial expansion of vertical-strip LLT polynomials in the basis of elementary symmetric functions

We give a new characterization of the vertical-strip LLT polynomials $\mathrm{LLT}_P(x;q)$ as the unique family of symmetric functions that satisfy certain combinatorial relations. This characterization is then used to prove an explicit combinatorial expansion of vertical-strip LLT polynomials in terms of elementary symmetric functions. Such formulas were conjectured independently by A. Garsia et al. and the first named author, and are governed by the combinatorics of orientations of unit-interval graphs. The obtained expansion is manifestly positive if $q$ is replaced by $q+1$, thus recovering a recent result of M. D'Adderio. Our results are based on linear relations among LLT polynomials that arise in the work of D'Adderio, and of E. Carlsson and A. Mellit. To some extent these relations are given new bijective proofs using colorings of unit-interval graphs. As a bonus we obtain a new characterization of chromatic quasisymmetric functions of unit-interval graphs.
