Frame Numbers and Jacobson Radicals for Partial Geometries and Related Coherent Configurations
We study the modular representation theory of rank $3$ association schemes arising from partial geometries with parameters $(s,t,α)$. First, we obtain an explicit closed formula for the Frame number of the point scheme in terms of the number of points $v$ and the parameter $s+t+1-α$, and use it to characterize the primes $p$ for which the adjacency algebra over $\mathbb{F}_p$ is not semisimple. We then give a complete case-by-case description of the Jacobson radical of this algebra in four arithmetic situations and determine the generic $p$-ranks of the adjacency matrices.
As a step toward understanding the modular representation theory of coherent configurations of type $[3,2;3]$ associated with strongly regular designs, we analyze the relationship between the modular structure of the point scheme and that of the design algebra. For the generalized quadrangle $\mathrm{GQ}(2,2)$ we obtain partial results on the structure of the $2$-modular adjacency algebra $\mathbb{F}_2 \mathfrak{X}$, and we explain the representation-theoretic difficulties that prevent a complete determination of its Wedderburn decomposition and Gabriel quiver, which remains open and is formulated as Problem~6.8.
Three formulas for CSM classes of open quiver loci
In the space of equioriented type $A$ quiver representations, we define subvarieties called "open quiver loci" by placing strict rank conditions on the maps within representations. The closures of these subvarieties are the quiver loci, whose equivariant cohomology classes are the quiver polynomials of Buch and Fulton. We present one geometric formula and two combinatorial formulas that compute equivariant Chern--Schwartz--MacPherson (CSM) classes of open quiver loci; these classes refine the data of the quiver polynomials. The second combinatorial formula is in terms of "chained generic pipe dreams," which modify the pipe dreams of Bergeron and Billey to more strongly resemble the lacing diagrams of Abeasis and Del Fra. We also present two new formulas for quiver polynomials; these are streamlined versions of known formulas due to Knutson, Miller, and Shimozono, in the sense that they contain fewer terms.
Cluster scattering diagrams via quiver moduli and tight gradings
We study rank-2 cluster scattering diagrams through moduli spaces of quiver representations and a recently developed combinatorial framework of tight gradings. Combining quiver-theoretic and combinatorial methods, we prove and extend a collection of conjectures posed by Elgin--Reading--Stella concerning the structural and enumerative properties of the wall-function coefficients. The tight grading perspective also provides a new proof of the Weyl group symmetry of the scattering diagram.
Characterization of the unit object in localized quantum unipotent category
For the quiver Hecke algebra $R$, let $R\hbox{-gmod}$ be the category of finite-dimensional graded $R$-modules, and let $\widetilde{R\hbox{-gmod}[w]}$ be the localization of $R\hbox{-gmod}$. Kashiwara and the second author showed the set of equivalence classes of simple objects up to grading shifts $\mathrm{Irr}(\widetilde{R\hbox{-gmod}[w]})$ in $\widetilde{R\hbox{-gmod}[w]}$ has a crystal structure, and $\mathrm{Irr}(\widetilde{R\hbox{-gmod}[w]})$ is isomorphic to the so-called cellular crystal $\mathbb B_{\mathbf i}$. This isomorphism induces a function $\varepsilon_i^*$ on $\mathbb B_{\mathbf i}$. We give an explicit formula of $\varepsilon_i^*$, and using this formula, we give a characterization of the unit object of $\widetilde{R\hbox{-gmod}[w]}$ for the case of classical finite types.
Polynomial identities for quivers via incidence algebras
We show that the path algebra of a quiver satisfies the same polynomial identities of an algebra of matrices, if any. In particular, the algebra of nxn matrices is PI-equivalent to the path algebra of the oriented cycle with n vertices.
From brick manifolds to Grassmannians of bimodules
We study a class of Grassmannians of sub-bimodules over the path algebras of quivers. Our quiver Grassmannians include Escobar's brick manifolds as well as Labelle's generalizations. We give an explicit construction of the varieties in question, provide examples and clarify connection with the quiver representation spaces. We also prove smoothness of our Grassmannians, construct cellular decompositions and derive a realization as framed moduli spaces. The framed moduli realization leads to a recursive formula for the motives.
Integrals of stable envelopes for cotangent bundles to Grassmannians
We consider cohomological stable envelopes for a natural torus action $\mathsf{T}$ on $X=T^*Gr(k,n)$, introduced by Maulik-Okounkov. We define the $\mathbb{C}^*_\hbar$-equivariant integral of the stable envelope using equivariant localization over the subtorus $\mathbb{C}^*_\hbar\subset\mathsf{T}$, and compute the integral as a non-equivariant limit of the localization over the full torus, $\mathsf{T}$. The integral of such a class is an integer times a power of $\hbar$, and the main result of this paper is a combinatorial formula for these integers. In 3d mirror symmetry, these non-equivariant limits are expected to reflect some curve counting phenomena on the 3d mirror dual, $X^\vee$. When $k=1$, we obtain the binomial coefficients, and we study some of the combinatorics of the integers for higher $k$, which haven't appeared in the literature before. We give some conjectures and interpretations on extending this phenomena to type A quiver and bow varieties.
Exact structures and maximal canonically Jordan recoverable subcategories for modules over type $A$ algebras
On one hand, exact structures were introduced by D. Quillen in the '70s. They can be defined as collections of short exact sequences in a fixed abelian category satisfying additional properties.
On the other hand, in a recent work, A. Garver, R. Patrias, and H. Thomas introduced Jordan recoverability. Given a bounded quiver $(Q,R)$, a full additive subcategory of $\operatorname{rep}(Q,R)$ is said to be Jordan recoverable if any $X \in \mathscr{C}$ can be recovered, up to isomorphism, from the Jordan form of its generic nilpotent endomorphisms. Such a subcategory $\mathscr{C}$ is said to be canonically Jordan recoverable if, moreover, there exists a precise algebraic procedure that allows one to get back $X \in \mathscr{C}$ from that same Jordan form data.
We introduce a new family of operators, called Gen-Sub operators $\operatorname{GS}_\mathcal{E}$, parametrized by the exact structures $\mathcal{E}$ of abelian categories. After showing some properties of those operators in hereditary abelian categories, by focusing on the setting of modules over type $A$ quivers endowed with the diamond exact structure $\mathcal{E}_\diamond$, we establish that the maximal canonically Jordan recoverable subcategories are precisely of the form $\operatorname{GS}_{\mathcal{E}_\diamond}(T)$ for some tilting object $T$.
The Hom-Ext quiver and applications to exceptional collections
We study what we call the Hom-Ext quiver and characterize it as a type of 'superquiver'. In type $\widetilde{\mathbb{A}}$, the Hom-Ext quiver of an exceptional set is the tiling algebra of the corresponding geometric model. And, in that case, Hom-Ext quivers classify exceptional sets up to Dehn twist of the corresponding geometric model. We show that these Dehn twists are realized by twist functors and give autoequivalences of the derived category. We provide a generating set for the group of autoequivalences of the derived category in type $\widetilde{\mathbb{A}}$, and show that the Hom-Ext quiver classifies exceptional sets up to derived autoequivalence. We introduce superquivers, which are a generalization of Hom-Ext quivers. Exceptional sets over finite acyclic quivers are realized as representations of superquivers. Throughout, we list several questions and conjectures that make for, what we believe, exciting new research.
Permutahedron Triangulations via Total Linear Stability and the Dual Braid Group
For each finite Coxeter group $W$ and each standard Coxeter element of $W$, we construct a triangulation of the $W$-permutahedron. For particular realizations of the $W$-permutahedron, we show that this is a regular triangulation induced by a height function coming from the theory of total linear stability for Dynkin quivers. We also explore several notable combinatorial properties of these triangulations that relate the Bruhat order, the noncrossing partition lattice, and Cambrian congruences. Each triangulation gives an explicit mechanism for relating two different presentations of the corresponding braid group (the standard Artin presentation and Bessis's dual presentation). This is a step toward uniformly proving conjectural simple, explicit, and type-uniform presentations for the corresponding pure braid group.
Quiver superconformal index and giant gravitons: asymptotics and expansions
We study asymptotics of the $d=4$, $\mathcal{N}=1$ superconformal index for toric quiver gauge theories. Using graph-theoretic and algebraic factorization techniques, we obtain a cycle expansion for the large-$N$ index in terms of the $R$-charge-weighted adjacency matrix. Applying saddle-point techniques at the on-shell $R$-charges, we determine the asymptotic degeneracy in the univariate specialization for $\hat{A}_{m}$, and along the main diagonal for the bivariate index for $\mathcal{N}=4$ and $\hat{A}_{3}$. In these cases we find $\ln |c_{n}| \sim γn^{\frac{1}{2}}+ β\ln n + α$ (Hardy-Ramanujan type). We also identify polynomial growth for $dP3$, $Y^{3,3}$ and $Y^{p,0}$, and give numerical evidence for $γ$ in further $Y^{p,p}$ examples. Finally, we generalize Murthy's giant graviton expansion via the Hubbard-Stratonovich transformation and Borodin-Okounkov formula to multi-matrix models relevant for quivers.
Resolving subcategories for gentle algebras II: Resolving subcategories for gentle trees
This paper is the second part of a series that intends to study the resolving subcategories for gentle algebras over an algebraically closed field $\mathbb{K}$.
As in the first part, we continue to focus on gentle quivers $(Q,R)$, where $Q$ is a directed tree, known as gentle trees. In our previous work, via a modified surface model for gentle algebras with finite global dimension, we studied the join-irreducible elements of the lattice of resolving subcategories of $\mathbb{K}Q/\langle R \rangle - \text{mod}$, which happen to be those generated by a non-projective indecomposable object.
In this paper, we notice that this lattice is not semidistributive in general and, accordingly, introduce a so-called upper join-decomposition, replacing the canonical one. Together with the techniques we develop in our geometric model, it allows us to describe the resolving subcategories of any gentle tree. These same techniques let us explicitly construct the resolving subcategory generated by any collection of indecomposable $\mathbb{K}Q/\langle R\rangle$-modules.
Global positroid varieties
Positroid subvarieties of complex Grassmannians are the images of the Richardson subvarieties of the full flag varieties under the natural projection map. Positroid varieties admit natural embedding into certain quiver Grassmannians for equioriented cyclic quivers. Varying representations of the quiver, one defines global positroid varieties inside the type A global affine Grassmannian. General fiber of a family is isomorphic to the corresponding classical positroid variety and the special fiber is a subvariety of the juggling variety. We show that the global positroid families are flat and describe their (conjecturally reduced) scheme structures. We also describe the special fibers inside the product of classical positroid varieties and realize the irreducible components of the special fibers in terms of the affine Richardson varieties.
Real $C$-, $G$-structures and sign-coherence of cluster algebras
We generalize the theory of integer $C$-, $G$-matrices in cluster algebras to the real case. By a skew-symmetrizing method, we can reduce the problem of skew-symmetrizable patterns to the one of skew-symmetric patterns. In this sense, we extend the sign-coherence of integer $C$-, $G$-matrices proved by Gross-Hacking-Keel-Kontsevich to a more general real class called of quasi-integer type. Furthermore, we give a complete classification of this type by a combinatorial method of real weighted quivers. However, the sign-coherence of real $C$-, $G$-matrices does not always hold in general. For this purpose, we classify all the rank $2$ case and the finite type case via the Coxeter diagrams. We also give two conjectures about the real exchange matrices and $C$-, $G$-matrices. Under these conjectures, the dual mutation, $G$-fan structure and synchronicity property hold. As an application, the isomorphism of several kinds of exchange graphs is studied.
On the coefficients of Coxeter polynomials of trees and bipartite quivers
We apply spectral graph theory and a theorem of A'Campo to express the first and second coefficients of the Coxeter polynomials associated with certain bipartite quivers in terms of the degrees of the vertices in their underlying graphs. As a consequence, we provide a new proof of a result by Happel, expressing the second coefficient of the Coxeter polynomial of a tree in terms of its vertex degrees.
Polymatroidal tilings and the Chow class of linked projective spaces
Linked projective spaces are quiver Grassmanians of constant dimension one of certain quiver representations, called linked nets, over special class of quivers, called $\mathbb{Z}^n$-quivers. They were recently introduced as a tool for describing schematic limits of families of divisors. They are subschemes of products of projective spaces of the same dimension. It is an open question whether they are degenerations of the (small) diagonal. We show that they have the Chow class of the diagonal.
Mutations of quivers with 2-cycles
We develop a mutation theory for quivers with oriented 2-cycles using a structure called a homotopy, defined as a normal subgroupoid of the quiver's fundamental groupoid. This framework extends Fomin-Zelevinsky mutations of 2-acyclic quivers and yields involutive mutations that preserve the fundamental groupoid quotient by the homotopy. It generalizes orbit mutations arising from quiver coverings and allows for infinite mutation sequences even when orbit mutations are obstructed. We further construct quivers with homotopies from triangulations of marked surfaces with colored punctures, and prove that flips correspond to mutations, extending the Fomin-Shapiro-Thurston model to the setting with 2-cycles.
The separating variety for matrix invariants
Let $G$ be a linear algebraic group defined over an algebraically closed field $k$, and let $V$ be a vector space on which $G$ acts linearly. The separating variety $\mathcal{S}_{G,V}$ is the subvariety of $V^2$ consisting of pairs of points indistinguishable by invariant polynomials in $k[V]^G$. Its geometry places restrictions on the existence of small separating sets, i.e. sets of invariants which distinguish the same points as the full algebra of invariants. The purpose of this article is to study the separating variety in the important special case where $G=\mathrm{GL}_p(\mathbb{C})$ acts on the set $V$ of $n$-tuples of $p \times p$ matrices by simultaneous conjugation. We define a purely combinatorial poset, $\mathcal{P}_{p,n}$, whose maximal elements are in 1-1 correspondence with the irreducible components of $\mathcal{S}_{G,V}$. We show that $\mathcal{S}_{G,V}$ is a variety of dimension $(n+1)p^2-1$, and determine its subdimension for all $n$ and $p$. In particular we show the subdimension is $(n+1)p^2-p$ if $n \geq 3$, or $n \geq 2$ and $p \geq 4$. In the case $n \geq 3$, we give a formula for the number of components of given codimension in $\mathcal{S}_{G,V}$. We give explicit decompositions of $\mathcal{S}_{G,V}$ for all $n$ where $p=2,3$ or $4$. Our results in particular show that when $n\geq 2$ and $p\geq 4$, or $n\geq 3$ and $p=3$, $\mathbb{C}[V]^G$ does not contain a polynomial or hypersurface separating set. It was proven in arXiv:2202.05717 that the same is true if $n \geq 4$ and $p=2$. The author made a conjecture in arXiv:2211.17088 generalising the Skronowski-Weyman theorem for representations of quivers. The results of this paper prove that conjecture in two important special cases: for the quiver with one vertex and an arbitrary number, $n$, of loops, and for the quiver with two vertices and $n$ arrows between them.
Quivers and BPS states in 3d and 4d
We propose a symmetrization relation between BPS quivers encoding 4d $\mathcal{N}=2$ theories and symmetric quivers associated to 3d $\mathcal{N}=2$ theories. We analyse in detail the symmetrization of BPS quivers for a series of $A_m$ Argyres-Douglas theories by engineering 3d-4d systems in geometric backgrounds involving appropriate 3-manifolds and Riemann surfaces. We discuss properties of these geometric backgrounds and derive the corresponding quiver partition functions from the perspective of skein modules, which forms the foundation of the symmetrization map for the minimal chamber. We also prove that the structure of wall-crossing in 4d $A_m$ Argyres-Douglas theories is isomorphic to the structure of unlinking of symmetric quivers encoding their partner 3d theories, which allows for a proper definition of the symmetrization map outside the minimal chamber. Finally, we show that the Schur indices of 4d theories are captured by symmetric quivers that include symmetrization of 4d BPS quivers.
Remarks on the Brouwer Conjecture
The Brouwer conjecture (BC) in spectral graph theory claims that the sum of the largest k Kirchhoff eigenvalues of a graph are bounded above by the number m of edges plus k(k+1)/2. We show that (BC) holds for all graphs with n vertices if n is larger or equal than 4 times the square of the maximal vertex degree. We also note that (BC) for graphs implies (BC) for quivers.
