The Cyclic Cutwidth of $Q_n$
In this article the cyclic cutwidth of the $n$-dimensional cube is explored. It has been conjectured by Dr. Chavez and Dr. Trapp that the cyclic cutwidth of $Q_n$ is minimized with the Graycode numbering. Several results have been found toward the proof of this conjecture.
The planar Turán number of $\{K_4,C_5\}$ and $\{K_4,C_6\}$
Let $\mathcal{H}$ be a set of graphs. The planar Turán number, $ex_\mathcal{P}(n,\mathcal{H})$, is the maximum number of edges in an $n$-vertex planar graph which does not contain any member of $\mathcal{H}$ as a subgraph. When $\mathcal{H}=\{H\}$ has only one element, we usually write $ex_\mathcal{P}(n,H)$ instead. The topic of extremal planar graphs was initiated by Dowden (2016). He obtained sharp upper bound for both $ex_\mathcal{P}(n,C_5)$ and $ex_\mathcal{P}(n,K_4)$. Later on, we obtained sharper bound for $ex_\mathcal{P}(n,\{K_4,C_7\})$. In this paper, we give upper bounds of $ex_\mathcal{P}(n,\{K_4,C_5\})\leq {15\over 7}(n-2)$ and $ex_\mathcal{P}(n,\{K_4,C_6\})\leq {7\over 3}(n-2)$. We also give constructions which show the bounds are tight for infinitely many graphs.

For every connected, almost simple linear algebraic group $G\leq\mathrm{GL}_{n}$ over a large enough field $K$, every subvariety $V\subseteq G$, and every finite generating set $A\subseteq G(K)$, we prove a general dimensional bound, that is, a bound of the form \[|A\cap V(\overline{K})|\leq C_{1}|A^{C_{2}}|^{\frac{\dim(V)}{\dim(G)}}\] with $C_{1},C_{2}$ depending only on $n,\mathrm{deg}(V)$. The dependence of $C_1$ on $n$ (or rather on $\dim (V)$) is doubly exponential, whereas $C_2$ (which is independent of $\mathrm{deg}(V)$) depends simply exponentially on $n$. Bounds of this form have proved useful in the study of growth in linear algebraic groups since 2005 (Helfgott) and, before then, in the study of subgroup structure (Larsen-Pink: $A$ a subgroup). In bounds for general $V$ and $G$ available before our work, the dependence of $C_1$ and $C_2$ on $n$ was of exponential-tower type. We draw immediate consequences regarding diameter bounds for untwisted classical groups $G(\mathbb{F}_{q})$. (In a separate paper, we derive stronger diameter bounds from stronger dimensional bounds we prove for specific families of varieties $V$.)

On the Existence of Elementwise Invariant Vectors in Representations of Symmetric Groups
We determine when a permutation with cycle type $μ$ admits a non-zero invariant vector in the irreducible representation $V_λ$ of the symmetric group. We find that a majority of pairs $(λ,μ)$ have this property, with only a few simple exceptions.

In this paper, we are interested in some problems related to chromatic number and clique number for the class of $(P_5,K_5-e)$-free graphs, and prove the following. $(a)$ If $G$ is a connected ($P_5,K_5-e$)-free graph with $ω(G)\geq 7$, then either $G$ is the complement of a bipartite graph or $G$ has a clique cut-set. Moreover, there is a connected ($P_5,K_5-e$)-free imperfect graph $H$ with $ω(H)=6$ and has no clique cut-set. This strengthens a result of Malyshev and Lobanova [Disc. Appl. Math. 219 (2017) 158--166]. $(b)$ If $G$ is a ($P_5,K_5-e$)-free graph with $ω(G)\geq 4$, then $χ(G)\leq \max\{7, ω(G)\}$. Moreover, the bound is tight when $ω(G)\notin \{4,5,6\}$. This result together with known results partially answers a question of Ju and Huang [arXiv:2303.18003 [math.CO] 2023], and also improves a result of Xu [Manuscript 2022].
While the "Chromatic Number Problem" is known to be $NP$-hard for the class of $P_5$-free graphs, our results together with some known results imply that the "Chromatic Number Problem" can be solved in polynomial time for the class of ($P_5,K_5-e$)-free graphs which may be independent interest.
The maximum four point condition matrix of a tree

$\newcommand{\Max}{\mathrm{Max4PC}}$ The Four point condition (4PC henceforth) is a well known condition characterising distances in trees $T$. Let $w,x,y,z$ be four vertices in $T$ and let $d_{x,y}$ denote the distance between vertices $x,y$ in $T$. The 4PC condition says that among the three terms $d_{w,x} + d_{y,z}$, $d_{w,y} + d_{x,z}$ and $d_{w,z} + d_{x,y}$ the maximum value equals the second maximum value.
We define an $\binom{n}{2} \times \binom{n}{2}$ sized matrix $\Max_T$ from a tree $T$ where the rows and columns are indexed by size-2 subsets. The entry of $\Max_T$ corresponding to the row indexed by $\{w,x\}$ and column $\{y,z\}$ is the maximum value among the three terms $d_{w,x} + d_{y,z}$, $d_{w,y} + d_{x,z}$ and $d_{w,z} + d_{x,y}$. In this work, we determine basic properties of this matrix like rank, give an algorithm that outputs a family of bases, and find the determinant of $\Max_T$ when restricted to our basis. We further determine the inertia and the Smith Normal Form (SNF) of $\Max_T$.
Boundes for Boxicity of some classes of graphs
Let $box(G)$ be the boxicity of a graph $G$, $G[H_1,H_2,\ldots, H_n]$ be the $G$-generalized join graph of $n$-pairwise disjoint graphs $H_1,H_2,\ldots, H_n$, $G^d_k$ be a circular clique graph (where $k\geq 2d$) and $Γ(R)$ be the zero-divisor graph of a commutative ring $R$. In this paper, we prove that $χ(G^d_k)\geq box(G^d_k)$, for all $k$ and $d$ with $k\geq 2d$. This generalizes the results proved in \cite{Aki}. Also we obtain that $box(G[H_1,H_2,\ldots,H_n])\leq \mathop\sum\limits_{i=1}^nbox(H_i)$. As a consequence of this result, we obtain a bound for boxicity of zero-divisor graph of a finite commutative ring with unity. In particular, if $R$ is a finite commutative non-zero reduced ring with unity, then $χ(Γ(R))\leq box(Γ(R))\leq 2^{χ(Γ(R))}-2$. where $χ(Γ(R))$ is the chromatic number of $Γ(R)$. Moreover, we show that if $N= \prod\limits_{i=1}^{a}p_i^{2n_i} \prod\limits_{j=1}^{b}q_j^{2m_j+1}$ is a composite number, where $p_i$'s and $q_j$'s are distinct prime numbers, then $box(Γ(\mathbb{Z}_N))\leq \big(\mathop\prod\limits_{i=1}^{a}(2n_i+1)\mathop\prod\limits_{j=1}^{b}(2m_j+2)\big)-\big(\mathop\prod\limits_{i=1}^{a}(n_i+1)\mathop\prod\limits_{j=1}^{b}(m_j+1)\big)-1$, where $\mathbb{Z}_N$ is the ring of integers modulo $N$. Further, we prove that, $box(Γ(\mathbb{Z}_N))=1$ if and only if either $N=p^n$ for some prime number $p$ and some positive integer $n\geq 2$ or $N=2p$ for some odd prime number $p$.
Cameron-Liebler sets in permutation groups
Consider a group $G$ acting on a set $Ω$, the vector $v_{a,b}$ is a vector with the entries indexed by the elements of $G$, and the $g$-entry is 1 if $g$ maps $a$ to $b$, and zero otherwise. A $(G,Ω)$-Cameron-Liebler set is a subset of $G$, whose indicator function is a linear combination of elements in $\{v_{a, b}\ :\ a, b \in Ω\}$. We investigate Cameron-Liebler sets in permutation groups, with a focus on constructions of Cameron-Liebler sets for 2-transitive groups.

We discuss a link between graph theory and geometry that arises when considering graph dynamical systems with odd interactions. The equilibrium set in such systems is not a collection of isolated points, but rather a union of manifolds, which may intersect creating singularities and may vary in dimension. We prove that geometry and stability of such manifolds are governed by combinatorial properties of the underlying graph. In particular, we derive an upper bound on the dimension of the equilibrium set using graph homology and a lower bound using graph coverings. Moreover, we show how graph automorphisms relate to geometric singularities and prove that the decomposition of a graph into $2$-vertex-connected components induces a decomposition of the equilibrium set that preserves three notions of stability.

Let $\text{Fl}_{n,q}$ be the simplicial complex whose vertices are the non-trivial subspaces of $\mathbb{F}_q^n$ and whose simplices correspond to families of subspaces forming a flag. Let $Δ^{+}_k(\text{Fl}_{n,q})$ be the $k$-dimensional weighted upper Laplacian on $ \text{Fl}_{n,q}$. The spectrum of $Δ^{+}_k(\text{Fl}_{n,q})$ was first studied by Garland, who obtained a lower bound on its non-zero eigenvalues. Here, we focus on the $k=0$ case. We determine the asymptotic behavior of the eigenvalues of $Δ_{0}^{+}(\text{Fl}_{n,q})$ as $q$ tends to infinity. In particular, we show that for large enough $q$, $Δ_{0}^{+}(\text{Fl}_{n,q})$ has exactly $\left\lfloor n^2/4\right\rfloor+2$ distinct eigenvalues, and that every eigenvalue $λ\neq 0,n-1$ of $Δ_{0}^{+}(\text{Fl}_{n,q})$ tends to $n-2$ as $q$ goes to infinity. This solves the $0$-dimensional case of a conjecture of Papikian.

Let $G$ and $H$ be hypergraphs on $n$ vertices, and suppose $H$ has large enough minimum degree to necessarily contain a copy of $G$ as a subgraph. We give a general method to randomly embed $G$ into $H$ with good "spread". More precisely, for a wide class of $G$, we find a randomised embedding $f\colon G\hookrightarrow H$ with the following property: for every $s$, for any partial embedding $f'$ of $s$ vertices of $G$ into $H$, the probability that $f$ extends $f'$ is at most $O(1/n)^s$. This is a common generalisation of several streams of research surrounding the classical Dirac-type problem. For example, setting $s=n$, we obtain an asymptotically tight lower bound on the number of embeddings of $G$ into $H$. This recovers and extends recent results of Glock, Gould, Joos, Kühn, and Osthus and of Montgomery and Pavez-Signé regarding enumerating Hamilton cycles in Dirac hypergraphs. Moreover, using the recent developments surrounding the Kahn--Kalai conjecture, this result implies that many Dirac-type results hold robustly, meaning $G$ still embeds into $H$ after a random sparsification of its edge set. This allows us to recover a recent result of Kang, Kelly, Kühn, Osthus, and Pfenninger and of Pham, Sah, Sawhney, and Simkin for perfect matchings, and obtain novel results for Hamilton cycles and factors in Dirac hypergraphs. Notably, our randomised embedding algorithm is self-contained and does not require Szemerédi's regularity lemma or iterative absorption.
Cutoff in the Bernoulli-Laplace Model With Unequal Colors and Urn Sizes
We consider a generalization of the Bernoulli-Laplace model in which there are two urns and $n$ total balls, of which $r$ are red and $n - r$ white, and where the left urn holds $m$ balls. At each time increment, $k$ balls are chosen uniformly at random from each urn and then swapped. This system can be used to model phenomena such as gas particle interchange between containers or card shuffling. Under a reasonable set of assumptions, we bound the mixing time of the resulting Markov chain asymptotically in $n$ with cutoff at $\log{n}$ and constant window. Among other techniques, we employ the spectral analysis of arXiv:0906.4242 on the Markov transition kernel and the chain coupling tools of arXiv:2203.08647 and arXiv:1606.01437.
Bounds for Characters of the Symmetric Group: A Hypercontractive Approach
Finding upper bounds for character ratios is a fundamental problem in asymptotic group theory. Previous bounds in the symmetric group have led to remarkable applications in unexpected domains. The existing approaches predominantly relied on algebraic methods, whereas our approach combines analytic and algebraic tools. Specifically, we make use of a tool called `hypercontractivity for global functions' from the theory of Boolean functions. By establishing sharp upper bounds on the $L^p$-norms of characters of the symmetric group, we improve existing results on character ratios from the work of Larsen and Shalev [Larsen M., Shalev A. Characters of the symmetric group: sharp bounds and applications. Invent. math. 174 645-687 (2008)]. We use our norm bounds to bound Kronecker coefficients, Fourier coefficients of class functions, product mixing of normal sets, and mixing time of normal Cayley graphs. Our approach bypasses the need for the $S_n$-specific Murnaghan--Nakayama rule. Instead we leverage more flexible representation theoretic tools, such as Young's branching rule, which potentially extend the applicability of our method to groups beyond $S_n$.
The $α$-index of graphs without intersecting triangles/quadrangles as a minor

The $A_α$-matrix of a graph $G$ is the convex linear combination of the adjacency matrix $A(G)$ and the diagonal matrix of vertex degrees $D(G)$, i.e., $A_α(G) = αD(G) + (1 - α)A(G)$, where $0\leqα\leq1$. The $α$-index of $G$ is the largest eigenvalue of $A_α(G)$. Particularly, the matrix $A_0(G)$ (resp. $2A_{\frac{1}{2}}(G)$) is exactly the adjacency matrix (resp. signless Laplacian matrix) of $G$. He, Li and Feng [arXiv:2301.06008 (2023)] determined the extremal graphs with maximum adjacency spectral radius among all graphs of sufficiently large order without intersecting triangles and quadrangles as a minor, respectively. Motivated by the above results of He, Li and Feng, in this paper we characterize the extremal graphs with maximum $α$-index among all graphs of sufficiently large order without intersecting triangles and quadrangles as a minor for any $0<α<1$, respectively. As by-products, we determine the extremal graphs with maximum signless Laplacian radius among all graphs of sufficiently large order without intersecting triangles and quadrangles as a minor, respectively.
Towards studying the structure of triple Hurwitz numbers
Going beyond the studies of single and double Hurwitz numbers, we report some progress towards studying Hurwitz numbers which correspond to ramified coverings of the Riemann sphere involving three nonsimple branch points. We first prove a recursion which implies a fundamental identity of Frobenius enumerating factorizations of a permutation in group algebra theory. We next apply the recursion to study Hurwitz numbers involving three nonsimple branch points (besides simple ones),two of them having deterministic ramification profiles while the remaining one having a prescribed number of preimages. The recursion allows us to obtain recurrences as well as explicit formulas for these numbers which also generalize a number of existing results on single and double Hurwitz numbers. The case where one of the nonsimple branch points with deterministic profile has a unique preimage (one-part quasi-triple Hurwitz numbers {or $(1,m)$-part triple Hurwitz numbers}) is particularly studied in detail. We prove an attractive dimension-reduction formula from which any one-part quasi-triple Hurwitz number can be reduced to quasi-triple Hurwitz numbers where both with deterministic profiles are fully ramified. We also obtain the polynomiality of one-part quasi-triple Hurwitz numbers analogous to that implied by the remarkable ELSV formula for single Hurwitz numbers, and discuss the potential connection to intersection theory.
Extremal problems for disjoint graphs
For a simple graph $F$, let $\mathrm{EX}(n, F)$ and $\mathrm{EX_{sp}}(n,F)$ be the set of graphs with the maximum number of edges and the set of graphs with the maximum spectral radius in an $n$-vertex graph without any copy of the graph $F$, respectively. Let $F$ be a graph with $\mathrm{ex}(n,F)=e(T_{n,r})+O(1)$. In this paper, we show that $\mathrm{EX_{sp}}(n,kF)\subseteq \mathrm{EX}(n,kF)$ for sufficiently large $n$. This generalizes a result of Wang, Kang and Xue [J. Comb. Theory, Ser. B, 159(2023) 20-41]. We also determine the extremal graphs of $kF$ in term of the extremal graphs of $F$.

Connectivity Graph-Codes

The symmetric difference of two graphs $G_1,G_2$ on the same set of vertices $V$ is the graph on $V$ whose set of edges are all edges that belong to exactly one of the two graphs $G_1,G_2$. For a fixed graph $H$ call a collection ${\cal G}$ of spanning subgraphs of $H$ a connectivity code for $H$ if the symmetric difference of any two distinct subgraphs in ${\cal G}$ is a connected spanning subgraph of $H$. It is easy to see that the maximum possible cardinality of such a collection is at most $2^{k'(H)} \leq 2^{δ(H)}$, where $k'(H)$ is the edge-connectivity of $H$ and $δ(H)$ is its minimum degree. We show that equality holds for any $d$-regular (mild) expander, and observe that equality does not hold in several natural examples including any large cubic graph, the square of a long cycle and products of a small clique with a long cycle.
Ramsey-type results on parameters related to domination

The following inequality chain $$ ir(G)\le γ(G)\le i(G)\le α(G) \le Γ(G) \le I\!R(G)$$ is known as a domination chain, where $ir(G), γ(G), i(G), α(G), Γ(G)$, and $I\!R(G)$ are the lower irredundance number, the domination number, the independence domination number, the independence number, the upper domination number and the upper irredundance number of $G$, respectively. The Ramsey-type problem seeks to characterize the family $\mathcal H$ of graphs such that every $\mathcal H$-free graph $G$ has a bounded parameter $μ$. The classical Ramsey's theorem states that every $\{K_n, E_n\}$-free graph has a bounded number of vertices. Furuya (Discrete Math.Theor 2018) characterized $\mathcal H$ such that every connected $\mathcal H$-free graph $G$ has a bounded domination number. The characterization of the graph family $\mathcal H$ for which every connected $\mathcal H$-free graph $G$ has a bounded independence number was due to Choi, Furuya, Kim, Park~(Discrete math. 2020) and Chiba, Furuya (Electron. J. Combin., 2022). In this paper, we further characterize $\mathcal H$ such that every connected $\mathcal H$-free graph $G$ has bounded $μ(G)$ for $μ$ belonging to the set $\{ir(G), i(G), Γ(G), \text{IR}(G)\}$. This completes the characterization of $\mathcal H$ for which every connected $\mathcal H$-free graph $G$ has bounded $μ(G)$ for $μ(G)$ along the domination chain. Additionally, we characterize $\mathcal H$ such that every connected $\mathcal H$-free graph $G$ has bounded $μ(G)$ for $μ$ related to the domination number. Specifically, we consider the parameters $O\!I\!R(G)$, $I\!S(G)$, or $I\!R\!S(G)\}$, where $O\!I\!R(G)$, $I\!S(G)$, and $I\!R\!S(G)$ are the open irredundance number, the independence saturation number, and the irredundance saturation number of graph $G$, respectively.
