We describe an algorithm for finding Hamilton cycles in random graphs. Our model is the random graph $G=\gc$. In this model $G$ is drawn uniformly from graphs with vertex set $[n]$, $m$ edges and minimum degree at least three. We focus on the case where $m=cn$ for constant $c$. If $c$ is sufficiently large then our algorithm runs in $O(n^{1+o(1)})$ time and succeeds w.h.p.

In the Hopf algebra of symmetric functions, Sym, the basis of Schur functions is distinguished since every Schur function is isomorphic to an irreducible character of a symmetric group under the Frobenius characteristic map. In this note we show that in the Hopf algebra of noncommutative symmetric functions, Nsym, of which Sym is a quotient, the recently discovered basis of noncommutative Schur functions exhibits that every noncommutative Schur function is isomorphic to a noncommutative irreducible character of a symmetric group when working in noncommutative character theory. We simultaneously show that a second basis of Nsym consisting of Young noncommutative Schur functions also satisfies that every element is isomorphic to a noncommutative irreducible character of a symmetric group.
Arc Permutations

Arc permutations and unimodal permutations were introduced in the study of triangulations and characters. This paper studies combinatorial properties and structures on these permutations. First, both sets are characterized by pattern avoidance. It is also shown that arc permutations carry a natural affine Weyl group action, and that the number of geodesics between a distinguished pair of antipodes in the associated Schreier graph, as well as the number of maximal chains in the weak order on unimodal permutations, are both equal to twice the number of standard Young tableaux of shifted staircase shape. Finally, a bijection from non-unimodal arc permutations to Young tableaux of certain shapes, which preserves the descent set, is described and applied to deduce a conjectured character formula of Regev.

We use the cluster method to enumerate permutations avoiding consecutive patterns. We reprove and generalize in a unified way several known results and obtain new ones, including some patterns of length 4 and 5, as well as some infinite families of patterns of a given shape. By enumerating linear extensions of certain posets, we find a differential equation satisfied by the inverse of the exponential generating function counting occurrences of the pattern. We prove that for a large class of patterns, this inverse is always an entire function. We also complete the classification of consecutive patterns of length up to 6 into equivalence classes, proving a conjecture of Nakamura. Finally, we show that the monotone pattern asymptotically dominates (in the sense that it is easiest to avoid) all non-overlapping patterns of the same length, thus proving a conjecture of Elizalde and Noy for a positive fraction of all patterns.
The AG-invariant for (m+2)-angulations
In this paper, we study gentle algebras that come from (m+2)-angulations of unpunctured Riemann surfaces with boundary and marked points. We focus on calculating a derived invariant introduced by Avella-Alaminos and Geiss, generalizing previous work done when m=1. In particular, we provide a method for calculating this invariant based on the the configuration of the arcs in the (m+2)-angulation, the marked points, and the boundary components.

Let $G$ be a graph, and $H\colon V(G)\to 2^\mathbb{N}$ a set function associated with $G$. A spanning subgraph $F$ of $G$ is called an $H$-factor if the degree of any vertex $v$ in $F$ belongs to the set $H(v)$. This paper contains two results on the existence of $H$-factors in regular graphs. First, we construct an $r$-regular graph without some given $H^*$-factor. In particular, this gives a negative answer to a problem recently posed by Akbari and Kano. Second, by using Lovász's characterization theorem on the existence of $(g, f)$-factors, we find a sharp condition for the existence of general $H$-factors in $\{r, r+1\}$-graphs, in terms of the maximum and minimum of $H$. The result reduces to Thomassen's theorem for the case that $H(v)$ consists of the same two consecutive integers for all vertices $v$, and to Tutte's theorem if the graph is regular in addition.

A blocking quadruple (BQ) is a quadruple of vertices of a graph such that any two vertices of the quadruple either miss (have no neighbours on) some path connecting the remaining two vertices of the quadruple, or are connected by some path missed by the remaining two vertices. This is akin to the notion of asteroidal triple used in the classical characterization of interval graphs by Lekkerkerker and Boland. We show that a circular-arc graph cannot have a blocking quadruple. We also observe that the absence of blocking quadruples is not in general sufficient to guarantee that a graph is a circular-arc graph. Nonetheless, it can be shown to be sufficient for some special classes of graphs, such as those investigated by Bonomo et al. In this note, we focus on chordal graphs, and study the relationship between the structure of chordal graphs and the presence/absence of blocking quadruples. Our contribution is two-fold. Firstly, we provide a forbidden induced subgraph characterization of chordal graphs without blocking quadruples. In particular, we observe that all the forbidden subgraphs are variants of the subgraphs forbidden for interval graphs. Secondly, we show that the absence of blocking quadruples is sufficient to guarantee that a chordal graph with no independent set of size five is a circular-arc graph. In our proof we use a novel geometric approach, constructing a circular-arc representation by traversing around a carefully chosen clique tree.

Let A_n (n >= 1) be the set of all integers x such that there exists a connected graph on n vertices with precisely x spanning trees. In this paper, we show that |A_n| grows faster than sqrt{n}exp(2Pi*sqrt{n/log{n}/Sqrt(3)} This settles a question of Sedlacek.
Automorphisms of Codes in the Grassmann Scheme
Two mappings in a finite field, the Frobenius mapping and the cyclic shift mapping, are applied on lines in PG($n,p$) or codes in the Grassmannian, to form automorphisms groups in the Grassmanian and in its codes. These automorphisms are examined on two classical coding problems in the Grassmannian. The first is the existence of a parallelism with lines in the related projective geometry and the second is the existence of a Steiner structure. A computer search was applied to find parallelisms and codes. A new parallelism of lines in PG(5,3) was formed. A parallelism with these parameters was not known before. A large code which is only slightly short of a Steiner structure was formed.

Let $H_n$ be a $k$-graph on $n$ vertices. For $0 \le \ell <k$ and an $\ell$-subset $T$ of $V(H_n)$, define the degree $°(T)$ of $T$ to be the number of $(k-\ell)$-subsets~$S$ such that $S \cup T$ is an edge in~$H_n$. Let the minimum $\ell$-degree of $H_n$ be $δ_{\ell}(H_n) = \min \{ °(T) : T \subseteq V(H_n)$ and $|T|=\ell\}$. Given a family $\mathcal{F}$ of $k$-graphs, the $\ell$-degree Turán number $\text{ex}_{\ell}(n, \mathcal{F})$ is the largest $δ_{\ell}(H_n)$ over all $\mathcal{F}$-free $k$-graphs $H_n$ on $n$ vertices. Hence, $\text{ex}_0(n, \mathcal{F})$ is the Turán number. We define $\ell$-degree Turán density to be $$π^k_{\ell}(\mathcal{F}) = \limsup_{n \rightarrow \infty} \frac{\text{ex}_{\ell}(n, \mathcal{F} )}{ \binom{n- \ell}{k}}.$$ In this paper, we show that for $k> \ell >1$, the set of $π_{\ell}^k(\mathcal{F})$ is dense in the interval $[0,1)$. Hence, there is no "jump" for $\ell$-degree Turán density when $k>\ell >1$. We also give a lower bound on $π_{\ell}^k(\mathcal{F})$ in terms of an ordinary Turán density.
Asymptotic enumeration of vertex-transitive graphs of fixed valency
Let $G$ be a group and let $S$ be an inverse-closed and identity-free generating set of $G$. The \emph{Cayley graph} $\Cay(G,S)$ has vertex-set $G$ and two vertices $u$ and $v$ are adjacent if and only if $uv^{-1}\in S$. Let $CAY_d(n)$ be the number of isomorphism classes of $d$-valent Cayley graphs of order at most $n$. We show that $\log(CAY_d(n))\inΘ(d(\log n)^2)$, as $n\to\infty$. We also obtain some stronger results in the case $d=3$.

For any cluster algebra whose underlying combinatorial data can be encoded by a bordered surface with marked points, we construct a geometric realization in terms of suitable decorated Teichmueller space of the surface. On the geometric side, this requires opening the surface at each interior marked point into an additional geodesic boundary component. On the algebraic side, it relies on the notion of a non-normalized cluster algebra and the machinery of tropical lambda lengths.
Our model allows for an arbitrary choice of coefficients which translates into a choice of a family of integral laminations on the surface. It provides an intrinsic interpretation of cluster variables as renormalized lambda lengths of arcs on the surface. Exchange relations are written in terms of the shear coordinates of the laminations, and are interpreted as generalized Ptolemy relations for lambda lengths.
This approach gives alternative proofs for the main structural results from our previous paper, removing unnecessary assumptions on the surface.

We propose a new approach to study the Kronecker coefficients by using the Schur-Weyl duality between the symmetric group and the partition algebra. We explain the limiting behavior and associated bounds in the context of the partition algebra. Our analysis leads to a uniform description of the Kronecker coefficients when one of the indexing partitions is a hook or a two-part partition.
Concentration properties of semi-vertex transitive graphs and random bi-coset graphs
It is well-known that concentrators are sparse graphs of high connectivity, which play a key role in the construction of switching networks; and any semi-vertex transitive graph is isomorphic to a bi-coset graph. In this paper, we prove that random bi-coset graphs are almost always concentrators, and construct some examples of semi-vertex transitive concentrators.

A coloring $c$ of the vertices of a graph $G$ is nonrepetitive if there exists no path $v_1v_2\ldots v_{2l}$ for which $c(v_i)=c(v_{l+i})$ for all $1\le i\le l$. Given graphs $G$ and $H$ with $|V(H)|=k$, the lexicographic product $G[H]$ is the graph obtained by substituting every vertex of $G$ by a copy of $H$, and every edge of $G$ by a copy of $K_{k,k}$. %Our main results are the following. We prove that for a sufficiently long path $P$, a nonrepetitive coloring of $P[K_k]$ needs at least $3k+\lfloor k/2\rfloor$ colors. If $k>2$ then we need exactly $2k+1$ colors to nonrepetitively color $P[E_k]$, where $E_k$ is the empty graph on $k$ vertices. If we further require that every copy of $E_k$ be rainbow-colored and the path $P$ is sufficiently long, then the smallest number of colors needed for $P[E_k]$ is at least $3k+1$ and at most $3k+\lceil k/2\rceil$. Finally, we define fractional nonrepetitive colorings of graphs and consider the connections between this notion and the above results.

Edge-distance-regular graphs are distance-regular
A graph is edge-distance-regular when it is distance-regular around each of its edges and it has the same intersection numbers for any edge taken as a root. In this paper we give some (combinatorial and algebraic) proofs of the fact that every edge-distance-regular graph $\G$ is distance-regular and homogeneous. More precisely, $\G$ is edge-distance-regular if and only if it is bipartite distance-regular or a generalized odd graph. Also, we obtain the relationships between some of their corresponding parameters, mainly, the distance polynomials and the intersection numbers.

Motivated by the Gaussian symplectic ensemble, Mehta and Wang evaluated the $n$ by $n$ determinant $\det((a+j-i)Γ(b+j+i))$ in 2000. When $a=0$, Ciucu and Krattenthaler computed the associated Pfaffian $\Pf((j-i)Γ(b+j+i))$ with an application to the two dimensional dimer system in 2011. Recently we have generalized the latter Pfaffian formula with a $q$-analogue by replacing the Gamma function by the moment sequence of the little $q$-Jacobi polynomials. On the other hand, Nishizawa has found a $q$-analogue of the Mehta--Wang formula. Our purpose is to generalize both the Mehta-Wang and Nishizawa formulae by using the moment sequence of the little $q$-Jacobi polynomials. It turns out that the corresponding determinant can be evaluated explicitly in terms of the Askey-Wilson polynomials.
A relation between Clar covering polynomial and cube polynomial
The Clar covering polynomial (also called Zhang-Zhang polynomial in some chemical literature) of a hexagonal system is a counting polynomial for some types of resonant structures called Clar covers, which can be used to determine Kekulé count, the first Herndon number and Clar number, and so on. In this paper we find that the Clar covering polynomial of a hexagonal system H coincides with the cube polynomial of its resonance graph R(H) by establishing a one-to-one correspondence between the Clar covers of H and the hypercubes in R(H). Accordingly, some applications are presented.

In 1996 Sabitov proved that the volume of an arbitrary simplicial polyhedron P in the 3-dimensional Euclidean space $\R^3$ satisfies a monic (with respect to V) polynomial relation F(V,l)=0, where l denotes the set of the squares of edge lengths of P. In 2011 the author proved the same assertion for polyhedra in $\R^4$. In this paper, we prove that the same result is true in arbitrary dimension $n\ge 3$. Moreover, we show that this is true not only for simplicial polyhedra, but for all polyhedra with triangular 2-faces. As a corollary, we obtain the proof in arbitrary dimension of the well-known Bellows Conjecture posed by Connelly in 1978. This conjecture claims that the volume of any flexible polyhedron is constant. Moreover, we obtain the following stronger result. If $P_t$, $t\in [0,1]$, is a continuous deformation of a polyhedron such that the combinatorial type of $P_t$ does not change and every 2-face of $P_t$ remains congruent to the corresponding face of $P_0$, then the volume of $P_t$ is constant. We also obtain non-trivial estimates for the oriented volumes of complex simplicial polyhedra in $\C^n$ from their orthogonal edge lengths.
