It has been shown recently that the limit moments of $W(n)=B(n)B^{*}(n)$, where B(n) is a product of $p$ independent rectangular random matrices, are certain homogenous polynomials in the asymptotic dimensions of these matrices. Using the combinatorics of noncrossing partitions, we explicitly determine these polynomials and show that they are closely related to polynomials which can be viewed as multivariate Fuss-Narayana polynomials. Using this result, we compute the moments of the n-fold free multiplicative convolution of Marchenko-Pastur distributions with arbitrary shape parameters.

We prove an asymptotic formula for the number of Eulerian circuits for graphs with strong mixing properties and with vertices having even degrees. The exact value is determined up to the multiplicative error $O(n^{-1/2+\varepsilon})$, where $n$ is the number of vertices

We study the relationship between two sets of coordinates on a double Bruhat cell, the cluster variables introduced by Berenstein, Fomin, and Zelevinsky and the $\CX$-coordinates defined by the coweight parametrization of Fock and Goncharov. In these coordinates, we show that the generalized Chamber Ansatz of Fomin and Zelevinsky is a nondegenerate version of the canonical monomial transformation between the cluster variables and $\CX$-coordinates defined by a common exchange matrix. We prove this in the setting of an arbitrary symmetrizable Kac-Moody group, generalizing along the way many previous results on the double Bruhat cells of a semisimple algebraic group. In particular, we construct an upper cluster algebra structure on the coordinate ring of any double Bruhat cell in a symmetrizable Kac-Moody group, proving a conjecture of Berenstein, Fomin, and Zelevinsky.

We prove that an automorphism of order 3 of a putative binary self-dual [120, 60, 24] code C has no fixed points. Moreover, the order of the automorphism group of C divides 2^a.3.5.7.19.23.29 where a is a nonegative integer. Automorphisms of odd composite order r may occur only for r=15, 57 or r=115 with corresponding cycle structures 15-(0,0,8;0), 57-(2,0,2;0) or 115-(1,0,1;0), respectively. In case that all involutions act fixed point freely we have |Aut(C)|<=920, and Aut(C) is solvable if it contains an element of prime order p>=7. Moreover, the alternating group A_5 is the only non-abelian composition factor which may occur.
On a Conjecture of Randić Index and Graph Radius

The Randić index $R(G)$ of a graph $G$ is defined as the sum of $(d_i d_j)^{-1/2}$ over all edges $v_i v_j$ of $G$, where $d_i$ is the degree of the vertex $v_i$ in $G$. The radius $r(G)$ of a graph $G$ is the minimum graph eccentricity of any graph vertex in $G$. Fajtlowicz(1988) conjectures $R(G) \ge r(G)-1$ for all connected graph $G$. A stronger version, $R(G) \ge r(G)$, is conjectured by Caporossi and Hansen(2000) for all connected graphs except even paths. In this paper, we make use of Harmonic index $H(G)$, which is defined as the sum of $\frac{2}{d_i+d_j}$ over all edges $v_i v_j$ of $G$, to show that $R(G) \ge r(G)-31/105(k-1)$ for any graph with cyclomatic number $k\ge 1$, and $R(T)> r(T)+1/15$ for any tree except even paths. These results improve and strengthen the known results on these conjectures.
The Hardness of the Functional Orientation 2-Color Problem

We consider the Functional Orientation 2-Color problem, which was introduced by Valiant in his seminal paper on holographic algorithms [SIAM J. Comput., 37(5), 2008]. For this decision problem, Valiant gave a polynomial time holographic algorithm for planar graphs of maximum degree 3, and showed that the problem is NP-complete for planar graphs of maximum degree 10. A recent result on defective graph coloring by Corrêa et al. [Australas. J. Combin., 43, 2009] implies that the problem is already hard for planar graphs of maximum degree 8. Together, these results leave open the hardness question for graphs of maximum degree between 4 and 7. We close this gap by showing that the answer is always yes for arbitrary graphs of maximum degree 5, and that the problem is NP-complete for planar graphs of maximum degree 6. Moreover, for graphs of maximum degree 5, we note that a linear time algorithm for finding a solution exists.

The $N\times N$ complex Hadamard matrices form a real algebraic manifold $C_N$. We have $C_N=M_N(\mathbb T)\cap\sqrt{N}U_N$, and following Tadej and Życzkowski we investigate here the computation of the enveloping tangent space $\widetilde{T}_HC_N=T_HM_N(\mathbb T)\cap T_H\sqrt{N}U_N$, and notably of its dimension $d(H)=\dim(\widetilde{T}_HC_N)$, called undephased defect of $H$. Our main result is an explicit formula for the defect of the Fourier matrix $F_G$ associated to an arbitrary finite abelian group $G=\mathbb Z_{N_1}\times...\times\mathbb Z_{N_r}$. We also comment on the general question "does the associated quantum permutation group see the defect", with a probabilistic speculation involving Diaconis-Shahshahani type variables.

$β(1,0)$-trees provide a convenient description of rooted non-separable planar maps. The involution $h$ on $β(1,0)$-trees was introduced to prove a complicated equidistribution result on a class of pattern-avoiding permutations. In this paper, we describe and enumerate fixed points of the involution $h$. Intriguingly, the fixed points are equinumerous with the fixed points under taking the dual map on rooted non-separable planar maps, even though the fixed points do not go to each other under the know (natural) bijection between the trees and the maps.
Crucial and bicrucial permutations with respect to arithmetic monotone patterns
A pattern $τ$ is a permutation, and an arithmetic occurrence of $τ$ in (another) permutation $π=π_1π_2...π_n$ is a subsequence $π_{i_1}π_{i_2}...π_{i_m}$ of $π$ that is order isomorphic to $τ$ where the numbers $i_1<i_2<...<i_m$ form an arithmetic progression. A permutation is $(k,\ell)$-crucial if it avoids arithmetically the patterns $12... k$ and $\ell(\ell-1)... 1$ but its extension to the right by any element does not avoid arithmetically these patterns. A $(k,\ell)$-crucial permutation that cannot be extended to the left without creating an arithmetic occurrence of $12... k$ or $\ell(\ell-1)... 1$ is called $(k,\ell)$-bicrucial.
In this paper we prove that arbitrary long $(k,\ell)$-crucial and $(k,\ell)$-bicrucial permutations exist for any $k,\ell\geq 3$. Moreover, we show that the minimal length of a $(k,\ell)$-crucial permutation is $\max(k,\ell)(\min(k,\ell)-1)$, while the minimal length of a $(k,\ell)$-bicrucial permutation is at most $2\max(k,\ell)(\min(k,\ell)-1)$, again for $k,\ell\geq3$.

Consider a random regular graph with degree $d$ and of size $n$. Assign to each edge an i.i.d. exponential random variable with mean one. In this paper we establish a precise asymptotic expression for the maximum number of edges on the shortest-weight paths between a fixed vertex and all the other vertices, as well as between any pair of vertices. Namely, for any fixed $d \geq 3$, we show that the longest of these shortest-weight paths has about $\hatα\log n$ edges where $\hatα$ is the unique solution of the equation $α\log(\frac{d-2}{d-1}α) - α= \frac{d-3}{d-2}$, for $α> \frac{d-1}{d-2}$.
Improved Approximation Lower Bounds for Vertex Cover on Power Law Graphs and Some Generalizations
We prove new explicit inapproximability results for the Vertex Cover Problem on the Power Law Graphs and some functional generalizations of that class of graphs. Our results depend on special bounded degree amplifier constructions for those classes of graphs and could be also of independent interest.
Random graphs from a weighted minor-closed class

There has been much recent interest in random graphs sampled uniformly from the n-vertex graphs in a suitable minor-closed class, such as the class of all planar graphs. Here we use combinatorial and probabilistic methods to investigate a more general model. We consider random graphs from a `well-behaved' class of graphs: examples of such classes include all minor-closed classes of graphs with 2-connected excluded minors (such as forests, series-parallel graphs and planar graphs), the class of graphs embeddable on any given surface, and the class of graphs with at most k vertex-disjoint cycles. Also, we give weights to edges and components to specify probabilities, so that our random graphs correspond to the random cluster model, appropriately conditioned.
We find that earlier results extend naturally in both directions, to general well-behaved classes of graphs, and to the weighted framework, for example results concerning the probability of a random graph being connected; and we also give results on the 2-core which are new even for the uniform (unweighted) case.
A Parking Function Bijection supporting the Haglund-Morse-Zabrocki Conjectures

The shuffle conjecture expresses a relationship between parking functions, diagonal harmonics, and the Bergeron-Garsia $\nabla$ operator. Recent conjectures about a family of modified Hall-Littlewood operators made by Haglund, Morse, and Zabrocki sharpen the shuffle conjecture and suggest a variety of combinatorial properties of parking functions. In particular, their conjectures combined with previously established commutativity laws of the Hall-Littlewood operators, suggest the existence of certain bijections relating parking functions with different diagonal compositions. In this paper we formulate a conjecture which yields an algorithm for the construction of these bijections, prove a special case, and give some applications.

We prove that every simple connected graph with no $K_5$ minor admits a proper 4-coloring such that the neighborhood of each vertex $v$ having more than one neighbor is not monochromatic, unless the graph is isomorphic to the cycle of length 5. This generalizes the result by S.-J. Kim, S. J. Lee, and W.-J. Park on planar graphs.
Compact orbit spaces in Hilbert spaces and limits of edge-colouring models

Let $G$ be a group of orthogonal transformations of a real Hilbert space $H$. Let $R$ and $W$ be bounded $G$-stable subsets of $H$. Let $\|.\|_R$ be the seminorm on $H$ defined by $\|x\|_R:=\sup_{r\in R}|\langle r,x\rangle|$ for $x\in H$. We show that if $W$ is weakly compact and the orbit space $R^k/G$ is compact for each $k\in\oN$, then the orbit space $W/G$ is compact when $W$ is equiped with the norm topology induced by $\|.\|_R$.
As a consequence we derive the existence of limits of edge-colouring models which answers a question posed by Lovász. It forms the edge-colouring counterpart of the graph limits of Lovász and Szegedy, which can be seen as limits of vertex-colouring models.
In the terminology of de la Harpe and Jones, vertex- and edge-colouring models are called `spin models' and `vertex models' respectively.

We propose a notion of continuous path for locally finite metric spaces, taking inspiration from the recent development of A-theory for locally finite connected graphs. We use this notion of continuity to derive an analogue in Z^2 of the Jordan curve theorem and to extend to a quite large class of locally finite metric spaces (containing all finite metric spaces) an inequality for the \ell^p-distortion of a metric space that has been recently proved by Pierre-Nicolas Jolissaint and Alain Valette for finite connected graphs.
Toric Topology

Toric topology emerged in the end of the 1990s on the borders of equivariant topology, algebraic and symplectic geometry, combinatorics and commutative algebra. It has quickly grown up into a very active area with many interdisciplinary links and applications, and continues to attract experts from different fields.
The key players in toric topology are moment-angle manifolds, a family of manifolds with torus actions defined in combinatorial terms. Their construction links to combinatorial geometry and algebraic geometry of toric varieties via the related notion of a quasitoric manifold. Discovery of remarkable geometric structures on moment-angle manifolds led to seminal connections with the classical and modern areas of symplectic, Lagrangian and non-Kaehler complex geometry. A related categorical construction of moment-angle complexes and their generalisations, polyhedral products, provides a universal framework for many fundamental constructions of homotopical topology. The study of polyhedral products is now evolving into a separate area of homotopy theory, with strong links to other areas of toric topology. A new perspective on torus action has also contributed to the development of classical areas of algebraic topology, such as complex cobordism.
The book contains lots of open problems and is addressed to experts interested in new ideas linking all the subjects involved, as well as to graduate students and young researchers ready to enter into a beautiful new area.
Equality of P-partition generating functions

To every labeled poset (P,ω), one can associate a quasisymmetric generating function for its (P,ω)-partitions. We ask: when do two labeled posets have the same generating function? Since the special case corresponding to skew Schur function equality is still open, a complete classification of equality among (P,ω) generating functions is likely too much to expect. Instead, we determine necessary conditions and separate sufficient conditions for two labeled posets to have equal generating functions. We conclude with a classification of all equalities for labeled posets with small numbers of linear extensions.

We study a certain family of discrete dynamical processes introduced by Novikoff, Kleinberg and Strogatz that we call flashcard games. We prove a number of results on the evolution of these games, an in particular we settle a conjecture of NKS on the frequency with which a given card appears. We introduce a number of generalizations and variations that we believe are of interest, and provide a large number of open questions and problems.
