Using BKP neutral fermions, we derive a product expression for the generating function of volume-weighted plane partitions that satisfy two conditions. If we call a set of adjacent equal height-h columns, h > 0, an h-path, then 1. Every h-path can assume one of two possible colours. 2. There is a unique way to move along an h-path from any column to another.

The Grothendieck group of the tower of symmetric group algebras has a self-dual graded Hopf algebra structure. Inspired by this, we introduce by way of axioms, a general notion of a tower of algebras and study two Grothendieck groups on this tower linked by a natural paring. Using representation theory, we show that our axioms give a structure of graded Hopf algebras on each Grothendieck groups and these structures are dual to each other. We give some examples to indicate why these axioms are necessary. We also give auxiliary results that are helpful to verify the axioms. We conclude with some remarks on generalized towers of algebras leading to a structure of generalized bialgebras (in the sense of Loday) on their Grothendieck groups.
An exhaustive generation algorithm for Catalan objects and others
In this paper we present a CAT generation algorithm for Dyck paths with a fixed length n. It is the formalization of a method for the exhaustive generation of this kind of paths which can be described by means of two equivalent strategies. The former is described by a rooted tree, the latter lists the paths by means of three operations which, as we are going to see, are equivalent to visit the tree. These constructions are strictly connected with ECO method and can be encoded by a rule, very similar to the succession rule in ECO, with a finite number of labels for each n. Moreover with a slight variation this method can be generalized to other combinatorial classes like Grand Dyck or Motzkin paths.

Recently, Baker and Norine have proven a Riemann-Roch theorem for finite graphs. We extend their results to metric graphs and thus establish a Riemann-Roch theorem for divisors on (abstract) tropical curves.
Symmetric Boolean Algebras
We define Boolean algebras in the linear context and study its symmetric powers. We give explicit formulae for products in symmetric Boolean algebras of various dimensions. We formulate symmetric forms of the inclusion-exclusion principle.
Extension of the Bernoulli and Eulerian Polynomials of Higher Order and Vector Partition Function
Following the ideas of L. Carlitz we introduce a generalization of the Bernoulli and Eulerian polynomials of higher order to vectorial index and argument. These polynomials are used for computation of the vector partition function $W({\bf s},{\bf D})$, i.e., a number of integer solutions to a linear system ${\bf x} \ge 0, {\bf D x} = {\bf s}$. It is shown that $W({\bf s},{\bf D})$ can be expressed through the vector Bernoulli polynomials of higher order.
Tree morphisms, transducers, and integer sequences
The notion of transducer integer sequences is considered through a series of examples. By definition, transducer integer sequences are integer sequences produced, under a suitable interpretation, by finite automata encoding tree morphisms (length and prefix preserving transformations of words). Transducer integer sequences are related to the notion of self-similar groups and semigroups, as well as to the notion of automatic sequences.

R. Stanley has found a nice combinatorial formula for characters of irreducible representations of the symmetric group of rectangular shape. Then, he has given a conjectural generalisation for any shape. Here, we will prove this formula using shifted Schur functions and Jucys-Murphy elements.
The Holt-Klee condition for oriented matroids

Holt and Klee have recently shown that every (generic) LP orientation of the graph of a $d$-polytope satisfies a directed version of the $d$-connectivity property, i.e. there are $d$ internally disjoint directed paths from a unique source to a unique sink. We introduce two new classes HK and HK* of oriented matroids (OMs) by enforcing this property and its dual interpretation in terms of line shellings, respectively. Both classes contain all representable OMs by the Holt-Klee theorem. While we give a construction of an infinite family of non-HK* OMs, it is not clear whether there exists any non-HK OM. This leads to a fundamental question as to whether the Holt-Klee theorem can be proven combinatorially by using the OM axioms only. Finally, we give the complete classification of OM(4, 8), the OMs of rank 4 on 8-element ground set with respect to the HK, HK*, Euclidean and Shannon properties. Our classification shows that there exists no non-HK OM in this class.

The Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials for finite Weyl groups arise in the geometry of Schubert varieties and representation theory. It was proved very soon after their introduction that they have nonnegative integer coefficients, but no completely combinatorial interpretation for them is known in general. Deodhar (1990) has given a framework for computing the Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials, which generally involves recursion. We define embedded factor pattern avoidance for general Coxeter groups and use it to characterize when Deodhar's algorithm yields a simple combinatorial formula for the Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials of finite Weyl groups. Equivalently, if $(W, S)$ is a Coxeter system for a finite Weyl group, we classify the elements $w \in W$ for which the Kazhdan-Lusztig basis element $C'_w$ can be written as a monomial of $C'_s$ where $s \in S$. This work generalizes results of Billey-Warrington (2001) which identified the Deodhar elements in type $A$ as 321-hexagon-avoiding permutations, and Fan-Green (1997) which identified the fully-tight Coxeter groups.

In this paper we prove tight bounds on the combinatorial and topological complexity of sets defined in terms of $n$ definable sets belonging to some fixed definable family of sets in an o-minimal structure. This generalizes the combinatorial parts of similar bounds known in the case of semi-algebraic and semi-Pfaffian sets, and as a result vastly increases the applicability of results on combinatorial and topological complexity of arrangements studied in discrete and computational geometry. As a sample application, we extend a Ramsey-type theorem due to Alon et al., originally proved for semi-algebraic sets of fixed description complexity to this more general setting.

We study the rational cohomology groups of the real De Concini-Procesi model corresponding to a finite Coxeter group, generalizing the type-A case of the moduli space of stable genus 0 curves with marked points. We compute the Betti numbers in the exceptional types, and give formulae for them in types B and D. We give a generating-function formula for the characters of the representations of a Coxeter group of type B on the rational cohomology groups of the corresponding real De Concini-Procesi model, and deduce the multiplicities of one-dimensional characters in the representations, and a formula for the Euler character. We also give a moduli space interpretation of this type-B variety, and hence show that the action of the Coxeter group extends to a slightly larger group.
On Spectra of Starlike Graphs
In the present paper we show that the spectrum of an arbitrary starlike graph can be completely determined via separating functions $ρ_t$ (see \cite{NazRoi,RedRoi,Red3}). This fact helps to get in an easy way several results for the spectra of starlike graphs.
Binary Labelings for Plane Quadrangulations and their Relatives

Motivated by the bijection between Schnyder labelings of a plane triangulation and partitions of its inner edges into three trees, we look for binary labelings for quadrangulations (whose edges can be partitioned into two trees). Our labeling resembles many of the properties of Schnyder's one for triangulations: Apart from being in bijection with tree decompositions, paths in these trees allow to define the regions of a vertex such that counting faces in them yields an algorithm for embedding the quadrangulation, in this case on a~2-book. Furthermore, as Schnyder labelings have been extended to 3-connected plane graphs, we are able to extend our labeling from quadrangulations to a larger class of 2-connected bipartite graphs. Finally, we propose a binary labeling for Laman graphs.

In this note we give an example of a set $\W\subset \R^4$ such that $L^2(\W)$ admits an orthonormal basis of exponentials $\{\frac{1}{|\W |^{1/2}}e^{2πi x, ξ}\}_{ξ\inŁ}$ for some set $Ł\subset\R^4$, but which does not tile $\R^4$ by translations. This improves Tao's recent 5-dimensional example, and shows that one direction of Fuglede's conjecture fails already in dimension 4. Some common properties of translational tiles and spectral sets are also proved.

Borsuk-Ulam Theorems for Complements of Arrangements
In combinatorial problems it is sometimes possible to define a $G$-equivariant mapping from a space $X$ of configurations of a system to a Euclidean space $\mathbb{R}^m$ for which a coincidence of the image of this mapping with an arrangement $\mathcal{A}$ of linear subspaces insures a desired set of linear conditions on a configuration. Borsuk-Ulam type theorems give conditions under which no $G$-equivariant mapping of $X$ to the complement of the arrangement exist. In this paper, precise conditions are presented which lead to such theorems through a spectral sequence argument. We introduce a blow up of an arrangement whose complement has particularly nice cohomology making such arguments possible. Examples are presented that show that these conditions are best possible.

For any graph G with n edges, the spanning subgraphs and the orientations of G are both counted by the evaluation T_G(2,2)=2^n of its Tutte polynomial. We define a bijection $Φ$ between spanning subgraphs and orientations and explore its enumerative consequences regarding the Tutte polynomial. The bijection $Φ$ is closely related to a recent characterization of the Tutte polynomial relying on a combinatorial embedding of the graph G, that is, on a choice of cyclic order of the edges around each vertex. Among other results, we obtain a combinatorial interpretation for each of the evaluations T_G(i,j), 0\leq i,j \leq 2 of the Tutte polynomial in terms of orientations. The strength of our approach is to derive all these interpretations by specializing the bijection $Φ$ in various ways. For instance, we obtain a bijection between the connected subgraphs of G (counted by T_G(1,2)) and the root-connected orientations. We also obtain a bijection between the forests (counted by T_G(2,1)) and outdegree sequences which specializes into a bijection between spanning trees (counted by T_G(1,1)) and root-connected outdegree sequences. We also define a bijection between spanning trees and recurrent configurations of the sandpile model. Combining our results we obtain a bijection between recurrent configurations and root-connected outdegree sequences which leaves the configurations at level 0 unchanged.
A classification of subsystems of a root system
We classify isomorphic classes of the homomorphisms of a root system $Ξ$ to a root system $Σ$ which do not change Cartan integers. We examine several types of isomorphic classes defined by the Weyl group of $Σ$, that of $Ξ$ and the automorphisms of $Σ$ or $Ξ$ etc. We also distinguish the subsystem generated by a subset of a fundamental system. We introduce the concept of the dual pair for root systems which helps to study the action of the outer automorphism of $Ξ$ on the homomorphisms.
