Dimer models on cylinders over Dynkin diagrams and cluster algebras
Published • View PublicationBIB
In this paper, we describe a general setting for dimer models on cylinders over Dynkin diagrams which in type A reduces to the well studied case of dimer models on a disc. We prove that all Berenstein--Fomin--Zelevinsky quivers for Schubert cells in a symmetric Kac--Moody algebra give rise to dimer models on the cylinder over the corresponding Dynkin diagram. We also give an independent proof of a result of Buan, Iyama, Reiten and Smith that the corresponding superpotentials are rigid using the dimer model structure of the quivers.

Uniform description of the rigged configuration bijection
Published in Selecta Math. (N.S.) 26(3) (2020), article 42 • View PublicationBIB
We give a uniform description of the bijection $Φ$ from rigged configurations to tensor products of Kirillov--Reshetikhin crystals of the form $\bigotimes_{i=1}^N B^{r_i,1}$ in dual untwisted types: simply-laced types and types $A_{2n-1}^{(2)}$, $D_{n+1}^{(2)}$, $E_6^{(2)}$, and $D_4^{(3)}$. We give a uniform proof that $Φ$ is a bijection and preserves statistics. We describe $Φ$ uniformly using virtual crystals for all remaining types, but our proofs are type-specific. We also give a uniform proof that $Φ$ is a bijection for $\bigotimes_{i=1}^N B^{r_i,s_i}$ when $r_i$, for all $i$, map to $0$ under an automorphism of the Dynkin diagram. Furthermore, we give a description of the Kirillov--Reshetikhin crystals $B^{r,1}$ using tableaux of a fixed height $k_r$ depending on $r$ in all affine types. Additionally, we are able to describe crystals $B^{r,s}$ using $k_r \times s$ shaped tableaux that are conjecturally the crystal basis for Kirillov--Reshetikhin modules for various nodes $r$.

Maximum antichains in posets of quiver representations
Published • View PublicationBIB
We study maximum antichains in two posets related to quiver representations. Firstly, we consider the set of isomorphism classes of indecomposable representations ordered by inclusion. For various orientations of the Dynkin diagram of type A we construct a maximum antichain in the poset. Secondly, we consider the set of subrepresentations of a given quiver representation, again ordered by inclusion. It is a finite set if we restrict to linear representations over finite fields or to representations with values in the category of pointed sets. For particular situations we prove that this poset is Sperner.

A non-Levi branching rule in terms of Littelmann paths
Published • View PublicationBIB
We prove a conjecture of Naito-Sagaki about a branching rule for the restriction of irreducible representations of $\mathfrak{sl}(2n,\mathbb{C})$ to $\mathfrak{sp}(2n,\mathbb{C})$. The conjecture is in terms of certain Littelmann paths, with the embedding given by the folding of the type $A_{2n-1}$ Dynkin diagram.

On Generalized Minors and Quiver Representations
Published • View PublicationBIB
The cluster algebra of any acyclic quiver can be realized as the coordinate ring of a subvariety of a Kac-Moody group -- the quiver is an orientation of its Dynkin diagram, defining a Coxeter element and thereby a double Bruhat cell. We use this realization to connect representations of the quiver with those of the group. We show that cluster variables of preprojective (resp. postinjective) quiver representations are realized by generalized minors of highest-weight (resp. lowest-weight) group representations, generalizing results of Yang-Zelevinsky in finite type. In type $A_n^{\!(1)}$ and finitely many other affine types, we show that cluster variables of regular quiver representations are realized by generalized minors of group representations that are neither highest- nor lowest-weight; we conjecture this holds more generally.

Twisted Coxeter elements and Folded AR-quivers via Dynkin diagram automorphisms:II
As a continuation of the previous paper, we find a combinatorial interpretation of Dorey's rule for type $C_n$ via twisted Auslander-Reiten quivers (AR-quivers) of type $D_{n+1}$, which are combinatorial AR-quivers related to certain Dynkin diagram automorphisms. Combinatorial properties of twisted AR-quivers are useful to understand not only Dorey's rule but also other notions in the representation theory of the quantum affine algebra $U_q'(C_n^{(1)})$ such as denominator formulas. In addition, unlike twisted adapted classes of type $A_{2n-1}$ in the previous paper, we show twisted AR-quivers of type $D_{n+1}$ consist of the cluster point called twisted adapted cluster point. Hence, by introducing new combinatorial objects called twisted Dynkin quivers of type $D_{n+1}$, we give one to one correspondences between twisted Coxeter elements, twisted adapted classes and twisted AR-quivers.

Twisted Coxeter elements and folded AR-quivers via Dynkin diagram automorphisms: I
We introduce and study the twisted adapted $r$-cluster point and its combinatorial Auslander-Reiten quivers, called twisted AR-quivers and folded AR-quivers, of type $A_{2n+1}$ which are closely related to twisted Coxeter elements and the non-trivial Dynkin diagram automorphism. As applications of the study, we prove that folded AR-quivers encode crucial information on the representation theory of quantum affine algebra $U_q'(B^{(1)}_{n+1})$ such as Dorey's rule and denominator formulas.

On a conjecture by Naito-Sagaki: Littelmann paths and Littlewood-Richardson Sundaram tableaux
Published • View PublicationBIB
We prove a special case of a conjecture of Naito-Sagaki about a branching rule for the restriction of irreducible representations of $\mathfrak{sl}(2n,\mathbb{C})$ to $\mathfrak{sp}(2n,\mathbb{C})$. The conjecture is in terms of certain Littelmann paths, with the embedding given by the folding of the type $A_{2n-1}$ Dynkin diagram. We propose and motivate an approach to the conjecture in general, in terms of Littlewood-Richardson Sundaram tableaux.

Veldkamp Spaces: From (Dynkin) Diagrams to (Pauli) Groups
Published in International Journal of Geometric Methods in Modern Physics 14 (2017) 1750080 • View PublicationBIB
Regarding a Dynkin diagram as a specific point-line incidence structure (where each line has just two points), one can associate with it a Veldkamp space. Focusing on extended Dynkin diagrams of type $\widetilde{D}_n$, $4 \leq n \leq 8$, it is shown that the corresponding Veldkamp space always contains a distinguished copy of the projective space PG$(3,2)$. Proper labelling of the vertices of the diagram (for $4 \leq n \leq 7$) by particular elements of the two-qubit Pauli group establishes a bijection between the 15 elements of the group and the 15 points of the PG$(3,2)$. The bijection is such that the product of three elements lying on the same line is the identity and one also readily singles out that particular copy of the symplectic polar space $W(3,2)$ of the PG$(3,2)$ whose lines correspond to triples of mutually commuting elements of the group; in the latter case, in addition, we arrive at a unique copy of the Mermin-Peres magic square. In the case of $n=8$, a more natural labeling is that in terms of elements of the three-qubit Pauli group, furnishing a bijection between the 63 elements of the group and the 63 points of PG$(5,2)$, the latter being the maximum projective subspace of the corresponding Veldkamp space; here, the points of the distinguished PG$(3,2)$ are in a bijection with the elements of a two-qubit subgroup of the three-qubit Pauli group, yielding a three-qubit version of the Mermin-Peres square. Moreover, save for $n=4$, each Veldkamp space is also endowed with some `exceptional' point(s). Interestingly, two such points in the $n=8$ case define a unique Fano plane whose inherited three-qubit labels feature solely the Pauli matrix $Y$.

Vertices of FFLV polytopes
Published • View PublicationBIB
FFLV polytopes describe monomial bases in irreducible representations of $\mathfrak{sl}_n$ and $\mathfrak{sp}_{2n}$. We study various sets of vertices of FFLV polytopes. First, we consider the special linear case. We prove the locality of the set of vertices with respect to the type $A$ Dynkin diagram. Then we describe all the permutation vertices and after that we describe all the simple vertices and prove that their number is equal to the large Schröder number. Finally, we derive analogous results for symplectic algebras.

The classification of Zamolodchikov periodic quivers
Published in Amer. J. Math, 141(2):447-484, 2019 • View PublicationBIB
Zamolodchikov periodicity is a property of certain discrete dynamical systems associated with quivers. It has been shown by Keller to hold for quivers obtained as products of two Dynkin diagrams. We prove that the quivers exhibiting Zamolodchikov periodicity are in bijection with pairs of commuting Cartan matrices of finite type. Such pairs were classified by Stembridge in his study of $W$-graphs. The classification includes products of Dynkin diagrams along with four other infinite families, and eight exceptional cases. We provide a proof of Zamolodchikov periodicity for all four remaining infinite families, and verify the exceptional cases using a computer program.

Tensor Product Multiplicities via Upper Cluster Algebras
Published in Annales de l'ENS, volume 54, issue 6 (2021) • View PublicationBIB
For each valued quiver $Q$ of Dynkin type, we construct a valued ice quiver $Δ_Q^2$. Let $G$ be a simple connected Lie group with Dynkin diagram the underlying valued graph of $Q$. The upper cluster algebra of $Δ_Q^2$ is graded by the triple dominant weights $(μ,ν,λ)$ of $G$. We prove that when $G$ is simply-laced, the dimension of each graded component counts the tensor multiplicity $c_{μ,ν}^λ$. We conjecture that this is also true if $G$ is not simply-laced, and sketch a possible approach. Using this construction, we improve Berenstein-Zelevinsky's model, or in some sense generalize Knutson-Tao's hive model in type $A$.

Linear recurrence relations in $Q$-systems via lattice points in polyhedra
Published • View PublicationBIB
We prove that the sequence of the characters of the Kirillov-Reshetikhin (KR) modules $W_{m}^{(a)}, m\in \mathbb{Z}_{m\geq 0}$ associated to a node $a$ of the Dynkin diagram of a complex simple Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ satisfies a linear recurrence relation except for some cases in types $E_7$ and $E_8$. To this end we use the $Q$-system and the existing lattice point summation formula for the decomposition of KR modules, known as domino removal rules when $\mathfrak{g}$ is of classical type. As an application, we show how to reduce some unproven lattice point summation formulas in exceptional types to finite problems in linear algebra and also give a new proof of them in type $G_2$, which is the only completely proven case when KR modules have an irreducible summand with multiplicity greater than 1. We also apply the recurrence to prove that the function $\dim W_{m}^{(a)}$ is a quasipolynomial in $m$ and establish its properties. We conjecture that there exists a rational polytope such that its Ehrhart quasipolynomial in $m$ is $\dim W_{m}^{(a)}$ and the lattice points of its $m$-th dilate carry the same crystal structure as the crystal associated with $W_{m}^{(a)}$.

Chip firing on Dynkin diagrams and McKay quivers
Published • View PublicationBIB
Two classes of avalanche-finite matrices and their critical groups (integer cokernels) are studied from the viewpoint of chip-firing/sandpile dynamics, namely, the Cartan matrices of finite root systems and the McKay-Cartan matrices for finite subgroups G of general linear groups. In the root system case, the recurrent and superstable configurations are identified explicitly and are related to minuscule dominant weights. In the McKay-Cartan case for finite subgroups of the special linear group, the cokernel is related to the abelianization of the subgroup G. In the special case of the classical McKay correspondence, the critical group and the abelianization are shown to be isomorphic.

Solutions of Reeder's Puzzle
In this paper we consider the generalized Reeder's puzzle, introduced by Reeder in 2005 and generalized by Borovoi and Evenor in 2016. We give a detailed solution of the puzzle for the graphs of Dynkin diagrams and affine Dynkin diagrams. We find the number of equivalence classes in each case. We also discuss more general graphs, and prove the main theorem about graphs (simply-laced trees) that contain E_6 as a subgraph.
Combinatorics of exceptional sequences in type A
Published • View PublicationBIB
Exceptional sequences are certain ordered sequences of quiver representations. We introduce a class of objects called strand diagrams and use this model to classify exceptional sequences of representations of a quiver whose underlying graph is a type $A_n$ Dynkin diagram. We also use variations of this model to classify c-matrices of such quivers, to interpret exceptional sequences as linear extensions of posets, and to give a simple bijection between exceptional sequences and certain chains in the lattice of noncrossing partitions. This work extends a classification of exceptional sequences for the linearly-ordered quiver obtained in an earlier paper by the first and third authors.

Zamolodchikov integrability via rings of invariants
Published • View PublicationBIB
Zamolodchikov periodicity is periodicity of certein recursions associated with box products $X \square Y$ of two finite type Dynkin diagrams. We suggest an affine analog of Zamolodchikov periodicity, which we call Zamolodchikov integrability. We conjecture that it holds for products $X \square Y$, where $X$ is a finite type Dynkin diagram and $Y$ is an extended Dynkin diagram. We prove this conjecture for the case of $A_m \square A_{2n-1}^{(1)}$. The proof employs cluster structures in certain classical rings of invariants, previously studied by S. Fomin and the author.

The Catalan combinatorics of the hereditary artin algebras
Published • View PublicationBIB
This is a survey on the categorification of the poset of generalized non-crossing partitions, using the representation theory of a hereditary artin algebra H, looking at the set P of exceptional subcategories in mod H. This categorification is due to Ingalls and Thomas, and a subsequent paper by Igusa and Schiffler. Starting point is a refinement of the classical tilting theory for mod H, replacing torsion pairs by torsion triples, thus putting it into the realm of the stability theory of King. The torsion pairs in mod H correspond nicely to the perpendicular pairs of exceptional subcategories and there is a wealth of bijections, the Ingalls-Thomas bijections, between sets of modules and subcategories. If H is representation-finite, one may look at the corresponding numbers of modules or subcategories. Such Dynkin functions (they attach to a Dynkin diagram an integer) are displayed in chapter 1. In a mysterious way, many Dynkin functions can be described using the exponents of the Weyl group. According to Shapiro and Kostant, the exponents are given by the height partition of the root poset. A recent result of Abe-Barakat-Cuntz-Hoge-Terao allows to determine them inductively, going up in a chain of ideals in the root poset, looking at the corresponding hyperplane arrangements. Chapter 4 deals with the case of the linearly oriented quiver of Dynkin type A. Here P is identified with the lattice NC of non-crossing partitions as introduced by Kreweras (now an important tool in several parts of mathematics, for example in free probability theory). We review some classical problems which are related to the maximal chains in NC: to count labeled trees as well as parking functions. The combinatorics of the Dynkin case A is just the combinatorics of the Catalan numbers; in an appendix, we discuss the nature of classical Catalan combinatorics.

On the asymptotics of Kronecker coefficients
Published • View PublicationBIB
Kronecker coefficients encode the tensor products of complex irreducible representations of symmetric groups. Their stability properties have been considered recently by several authors (Vallejo, Pak and Panova, Stembridge). We describe a geometric method, based on Schur-Weyl duality, that allows to produce huge series of instances of this phenomenon. Moreover the method gives access to lots of extra information. Most notably, we can often compute the stable Kronecker coefficients, sometimes as number of points in very explicit polytopes. We can also describe explicitely the moment polytope in the neighbourhood of our stable triples. Finally, we explain an observation of Stembridge on the behaviour of certain rectangular Kronecker coefficients, by relating it to the affine Dynkin diagram of type $E\_6$.
Artin Group Presentations Arising from Cluster Algebras
Published • View PublicationBIB
In 2003, Fomin and Zelevinsky proved that finite type cluster algebras can be classified by Dynkin diagrams. Then in 2013, Barot and Marsh defined the presentation of a reflection group associated to a Dynkin diagram in terms of an edge-weighted, oriented graph, and proved that this group is invariant (up to isomorphism) under diagram mutations. In this paper, we extend Barot and Marsh's results to Artin group presentations, defining new generator relations and showing mutation-invariance for these presentations.
