We point out how to use the classical characteristic method, that is used to solve quasilinear PDE's, to obtain the matrix exponential of some lower triangle infinite matrices. We use the Lie Frechet structure of the Riordan group described in [4]. After that we describe some linear dynamical systems in $\mathbb{K}[[x]]$ with a concrete involution being a symmetry or a time-reversal symmetry for them. We take this opportunity to assign some dynamical properties to the Pascal Triangle.
Charmed roots and the Kroweras complement
Although both noncrossing partitions and nonnesting partitions are uniformly enumerated for Weyl groups, the exact relationship between these two sets of combinatorial objects remains frustratingly mysterious. In this paper, we give a precise combinatorial answer in the case of the symmetric group: for any standard Coxeter element, we construct an equivariant bijection between noncrossing partitions under the Kreweras complement and nonnesting partitions under a Coxeter-theoretically natural cyclic action we call the Kroweras complement. Our equivariant bijection is the unique bijection that is both equivariant and support-preserving, and is built using local rules depending on a new definition of charmed roots. Charmed roots are determined by the choice of Coxeter element -- in the special case of the linear Coxeter element $(1, 2, \dots, n)$, we recover one of the standard bijections between noncrossing and nonnesting partitions.
Lattice operads and operad filtrations
We elaborate on the notion of a filtration of an operad defined in terms of a lattice-valued operad serving as an indexing object. That covers ordinary integer-indexed filtrations of associative algebras and operads as a special case, yet the notion appears to be natural enough to encompass examples of other kind as well. The characteristic property of lattice operads is that of a certain distributivity of partial compositions with respect to meets and joins. We observe that some well-known families of lattices of combinatorial origin, such as Tamari lattices, assemble to operads subject to this particular property. Other examples include an operad of integer paritions supported on Young's lattice, operads of integer compositions of types $A, B$ and $D$, which we relate to operads of regular polytopes. We discuss the partial compatibility of the weak order on the symmetric group with the structure of the permutations operad.

The noncrossing partition poset associated to a Coxeter group $W$ and Coxeter element $c$ is the interval $[1,c]_T$ in the absolute order on $W$. We construct a new model of noncrossing partititions for $W$ of classical affine type, using planar diagrams (affine types $\tilde A$ and $\tilde C$ in this paper and affine types $\tilde D$ and $\tilde B$ in the sequel). The model in type $\tilde A$ consists of noncrossing partitions of an annulus. In type $\tilde C$, the model consists of symmetric noncrossing partitions of an annulus or noncrossing partitions of a disk with two orbifold points. Following the lead of McCammond and Sulway, we complete $[1,c]_T$ to a lattice by factoring the translations in $[1,c]_T$, but the combinatorics of the planar diagrams leads us to make different choices about how to factor.
Elekes-Szabó for collinearity on cubic surfaces
We study the orchard problem on cubic surfaces. We classify possibly reducible cubic surfaces $X\subseteq \mathbb{P}^3(\C)$ with smooth components on which there exist families of finite sets (of unbounded size) with quadratically many 3-rich lines which do not concentrate (in a natural sense) on any projective plane. Namely, we prove that such a family exists precisely when $X$ is a union of three planes sharing a common line.
Along the way, we obtain a general result about nilpotency of groups admitting an algebraic action satisfying an Elekes-Szabó condition, and we prove the following purely algebrogeometric statement: if the composition of four Geiser involutions through sufficiently generic points $a,b,c,d$ on a smooth irreducible cubic surface has infinitely many fixed points, then a single plane contains $a,b,c,d$ and all but finitely many of the fixed points.

The two tableaux assigned by the Robinson--Schensted correspondence are equal if and only if the input permutation is an involution, so the RS algorithm restricts to a bijection between involutions in the symmetric group and standard tableaux. Beissinger found a concise way of formulating this restricted map, which involves adding an extra cell at the end of a row after a Schensted insertion process. We show that by changing this algorithm slightly to add cells at the end of columns rather than rows, one obtains a different bijection from involutions to standard tableaux. Both maps have an interesting connection to representation theory. Specifically, our insertion algorithms classify the molecules (and conjecturally the cells) in the pair of $W$-graphs associated to the unique equivalence class of perfect models for a generic symmetric group.

Let $G$ be an abelian group, and let $\mathcal F (G)$ be the free commutative monoid with basis $G$. For $Ω\subset \mathcal F (G)$, define the universal zero-sum invariant ${\mathsf d}_Ω(G)$ to be the smallest integer $\ell$ such that every sequence $T$ over $G$ of length $\ell$ has a subsequence in $Ω$. The invariant ${\mathsf d}_Ω(G)$ unifies many classical zero-sum invariants. Let $\mathcal B (G)$ be the submonoid of $\mathcal F (G)$ consisting of all zero-sum sequences over $G$, and let $\mathcal A (G)$ be the set consisting of all minimal zero-sum sequences over $G$. In this paper, we show that except for a few special classes of groups, there always exists a proper subset $Ω$ of $\mathcal A (G)$ such that ${\mathsf d}_Ω(G)={\rm D}(G)$. Furthermore, in the setting of finite cyclic groups, we discuss the distributions of all minimal sets by determining their intersections.
By connecting the universal zero-sum invariant with weights, we make a study of zero-sum problems in the setting of {\sl infinite} abelian groups. The universal zero-sum invariant ${\mathsf d}_{Ω; Ψ}(G)$ with weights set $Ψ$ of homomorphisms of groups is introduced for all abelian groups. The weighted Davenport constant ${\rm D}_Ψ(G)$ (being an special form of the universal invariant with weights) is also investigated for infinite abelian groups. Among other results, we obtain the necessary and sufficient conditions such that ${\rm D}_Ψ(G)<\infty$ in terms of the weights set $Ψ$ when $|Ψ|$ is finite. In doing this, by using the Neumann Theorem on Cover Theory for groups we establish a connection between the existence of a finite cover of an abelian group $G$ by cosets of some given subgroups of $G$, and the finiteness of weighted Davenport constant.

The characters of Kazhdan--Lusztig elements of the Hecke algebra over $S_n$ (and in particular, the chromatic symmetric function of indifference graphs) are completely encoded in the (intersection) cohomology of certain subvarieties of the flag variety. Considering the forgetful map to some partial flag variety, the decomposition theorem tells us that this cohomology splits as a sum of intersection cohomology groups with coefficients in some local systems of subvarieties of the partial flag variety. We prove that these local systems correspond to representations of subgroups of $S_n$. An explicit characterization of such representations would provide a recursive formula for the computation of such characters/chromatic symmetric functions, which could settle Haiman's conjecture about the positivity of the monomial characters of Kazhdan--Lusztig elements and Stanley--Stembridge conjecture about $e$-positivity of chromatic symmetric function of indifference graphs. We also find a connection between the character of certain homology groups of subvarieties of the partial flag varieties and the Grojnowski--Haiman hybrid basis of the Hecke algebra.

Linear set in projective spaces over finite fields plays central roles in the study of blocking sets, semifields, rank-metric codes and etc. A linear set with the largest possible cardinality and the maximum rank is called maximum scattered. Despite two decades of study, there are only a few number of known maximum scattered linear sets in projective lines, including the family constructed by Csajbók, Marino, Polverino and Zanella 2018, and the family constructed by Csajbók, Marino, Zullo 2018 (also Marino, Montanucci, and Zullo 2020). This paper aims to solve the equivalence problem of the linear sets in each of these families and to determine their automorphism groups.

A classical tensegrity model consists of an embedded graph in a vector space with rigid bars representing edges, and an assignment of a stress to every edge such that at every vertex of the graph the stresses sum up to zero. The tensegrity frameworks have been recently extended from the two dimensional graph case to the multidimensional setting. We study the multidimensional tensegrities using tools from toric geometry. For a given rational tensegrity framework $\mathcal{F}$, we construct a glued toric surface $X_\mathcal{F}$. We show that the abelian group of tensegrities on $\mathcal{F}$ is isomorphic to a subgroup of the Chow group $A^1(X_\mathcal{F};\QQ)$. In the case of planar frameworks, we show how to explicitly carry out the computation of tensegrities via classical tools in toric geometry.

In this paper we investigate left ideals as codes in twisted skew group rings. The considered rings, which are often algebras over a finite field, allows us to detect many of the well-known codes. The presentation, given here, unifies the concept of group codes, twisted group codes and skew group codes.
Generalized characters of the generalized symmetric group
We prove that $(\mathbb{Z}_k \wr \mathcal{S}_n \times \mathbb{Z}_k \wr \mathcal{S}_{n-1}, \text{diag} (\mathbb{Z}_k \wr \mathcal{S}_{n-1}) )$ is a symmetric Gelfand pair, where $\mathbb{Z}_k \wr \mathcal{S}_n$ is the wreath product of the cyclic group $\mathbb{Z}_k$ with the symmetric group $\mathcal{S}_n.$ The proof is based on the study of the $\mathbb{Z}_k \wr \mathcal{S}_{n-1}$-conjugacy classes of $\mathbb{Z}_k \wr \mathcal{S}_n.$ We define the generalized characters of $\mathbb{Z}_k \wr \mathcal{S}_n$ using the zonal spherical functions of $(\mathbb{Z}_k \wr \mathcal{S}_n \times \mathbb{Z}_k \wr \mathcal{S}_{n-1}, \text{diag} (\mathbb{Z}_k \wr \mathcal{S}_{n-1}) ).$ We show that these generalized characters have properties similar to usual characters. A Murnaghan-Nakayama rule for the generalized characters of the hyperoctahedral group is presented. The generalized characters of the symmetric group were first studied by Strahov in [7].

We investigate pairs of permutations $F,G$ of $\mathbb{F}_{p^n}$ such that $F(x+a)-G(x)$ is a permutation for every $a\in\mathbb{F}_{p^n}$. We show that necessarily $G(x) = \wp(F(x))$ for some complete mapping $-\wp$ of $\mathbb{F}_{p^n}$, and call the permutation $F$ a perfect $\wp$ nonlinear (P$\wp$N) function. If $\wp(x) = cx$, then $F$ is a PcN function, which have been considered in the literature, lately. With a binary operation on $\mathbb{F}_{p^n}\times\mathbb{F}_{p^n}$ involving $\wp$, we obtain a quasigroup, and show that the graph of a P$\wp$N function $F$ is a difference set in the respective quasigroup. We further point to variants of symmetric designs obtained from such quasigroup difference sets. Finally, we analyze an equivalence (naturally defined via the automorphism group of the respective quasigroup) for P$\wp$N functions, respectively, the difference sets in the corresponding quasigroup.
Cliques and independent subgroups of the Birkhoff polytope graph
The Birkhoff polytope $Ω_n$ is the polytope of doubly stochastic matrices of order $n$. The Birkhoff polytope graph $G(Ω_n)$ is the skeleton of $Ω_n$; it is the Cayley graph whose vertex set consists of the elements of the symmetric group ${\rm Sym}(n)$ of degree $n$, where two permutations are adjacent if one equals the product of the other with a cycle. We study the combinatorial structure of this graph, focusing on its maximal and maximum cliques and on its independent subgroups (subgroups of ${\rm Sym}(n)$ whose elements are pairwise nonadjacent in the graph). We obtain maximal subgroups of $G(Ω_n)$ and establish both a lower bound and an upper bound for its clique number. Especially, we prove that if $K$ is a subset of ${\rm Sym}(n)$ consisting of 3-cycle permutations such that $δ_1^{-1}δ_2$ is a single cycle for all $δ_1,δ_2\in K$, then the maximum size of $K$ is $\lfloor (n-1)^2/4\rfloor$, which can be viewed as an Erdős-Ko-Rado-type theorem for ${\rm Sym}(n)$.
The number of string C-groups of high rank

If $G$ is a transitive group of degree $n$ having a string C-group of rank $r\geq (n+3)/2$, then $G$ is necessarily the symmetric group $S_n$. We prove that if $n$ is large enough, up to isomorphism and duality, the number of string C-groups of rank $r$ for $S_n$ (with $r\geq (n+3)/2$) is the same as the number of string C-groups of rank $r+1$ for $S_{n+1}$. This result and the tools used in its proof, in particular the rank and degree extension, imply that if one knows the string C-groups of rank $(n+3)/2$ for $S_n$ with $n$ odd, one can construct from them all string C-groups of rank $(n+3)/2+k$ for $S_{n+k}$ for any positive integer $k$. The classification of the string C-groups of rank $r\geq (n+3)/2$ for $S_n$ is thus reduced to classifying string C-groups of rank $r$ for $S_{2r-3}$. A consequence of this result is the complete classification of all string C-groups of $S_n$ with rank $n-κ$ for $κ\in\{1,\ldots,6\}$, when $n\geq 2κ+3$, which extends previously known results. The number of string C-groups of rank $n-κ$, with $n\geq 2κ+3$, of this classification gives the following sequence of integers indexed by $κ$ and starting at $κ= 1$: $$(1,1,7,9,35,48)$$ This sequence of integers is new according to the On-Line Encyclopedia of Integer Sequences. It will be available as sequence number A359367.
On torsion freeness for the decomposable Orlik-Solomon algebra
We prove the torsion freeness of the decomposable Orlik--Solomon algebra of a simple matroid on ground set $[n]$. In the class of hypersolvable \& non-supersolvable complex hyperplane arrangements, the torsion freeness, in a certain degree, of this combinatorially defined object, associated to the intersection lattice of the arrangement, impacts on the first non-vanishing higher homotopy group of the complement of the arrangement.
Hosoya properties of power graphs over certain groups
The power graph denoted by $\mathcal{P}(\mathcal{G})$ of a finite group $\mathcal{G}$ is a graph with vertex set $\mathcal{G}$ and there is an edge between two distinct elements $u, v \in \mathcal{G}$ if and only if $u^m = v$ or $v^m = u$ for some $m \in \mathbb{N}$. Depending on the distance, the Hosoya polynomial contains a lot of knowledge about graph invariants which can be used to determine well-known chemical descriptors. The Hosoya index of a graph $Γ$ is the total number of matchings in $Γ$. In this article, the Hosoya properties of the power graphs associated with a finite group, including the Hosoya index, Hosoya polynomial, and its reciprocal are calculated.

Fix natural numbers $n \geq 1$, $t \geq 2$ and a primitive $t^{\text{th}}$ root of unity $ω$. In previous work with A. Ayyer (J. Alg., 2022), we studied the factorization of specialized irreducible characters of $\text{GL}_{tn}$, $\text{SO}_{2tn+1},$ $\text{Sp}_{2tn}$ and $\text{O}_{2tn}$ evaluated at elements to $ω^j x_i$ for $0 \leq j \leq t-1$ and $1 \leq i \leq n$. In this work, we extend the results to the groups $\text{GL}_{tn+m}$ $(0 \leq m \leq t-1)$, $\text{SO}_{2tn+3}$, $\text{Sp}_{2tn+2}$ and $\text{O}_{2tn+2}$ evaluated at similar specializations: (1) for the $\text{GL}_{tn+m}(\mathbb{C})$ case, we set the first $tn$ elements to $ω^j x_i$ for $0 \leq j \leq t-1$ and $1 \leq i \leq n$ and the remaining $m$ to $y, ωy, \dots, ω^{m-1} y$; (2) for the other three families, the same specializations but with $m=1$. The main results of this paper are a characterization of partitions for which these characters vanish and a factorization of nonzero characters into those of smaller classical groups. Our motivation is the conjectures of Wagh and Prasad (Manuscripta Math., 2020) relating the irreducible representations of $\text{Spin}_{2n+1}$ and $\text{SL}_{2n}$, $\text{SL}_{2n+1}$ and $\text{Sp}_{2n}$ as well as $\text{Spin}_{2n+2}$ and $\text{Sp}_{2n}$. Our proofs use the Weyl character formulas and the beta-sets of $t$-core partitions. Lastly, we give a bijection to prove that there are infinitely many $t$-core partitions for which these characters are nonzero.

For a finite dimensional algebra $A$, the notion of $g$-fan $Σ(A)$ is defined from two-term silting complexes of $A$ in the real Grothendieck group $K_0(\mathsf{proj} A)_{\mathbb{R}}$. In this paper, we discuss the theory of shards to $Σ(A)$, which was originally defined for a hyperplane arrangement. We establish a correspondence between the set of join-irreducible elements of the poset of torsion classes of $\mathrm{mod} A$ and the set of shards of $Σ(A)$ for $g$-finite algebra $A$. Moreover, we show that the semistable region of a brick of $\mathrm{mod} A$ is exactly given by a shard. We also give a poset isomorphism of shard intersections and wide subcategories of $\mathrm{mod} A$.
