We calculate the homology of three families of 2-step nilpotent Lie (super)algebras associated with the symplectic, orthogonal, and general linear groups. The symplectic case was considered by Getzler and the main motivation for this work was to complete the calculations started by him. In all three cases, these algebras can be realized as the nilpotent radical of a parabolic subalgebra of a simple Lie algebra, and our first approach relies on a theorem of Kostant, but is otherwise elementary and involves combinatorics of Weyl groups and partitions which may be of independent interest. Our second approach is an application of (un)stable representation theory of the classical groups in the sense of recent joint work of the author with Snowden, which is shorter and more conceptual.

It was conjectured by Bennett, Chari, and Manning that a BGG-type reciprocity holds for the category of graded representations with finite-dimensional graded components for the current algebra associated to a simple Lie algebra. We associate a current algebra to any indecomposable affine Lie algebra and show that, in this generality, the BGG reciprocity is true for the corresponding category of representations.

In this paper we give explicit descriptions of complete sets of mutually unbiased bases (MUBs) and orthogonal decompositions of special Lie algebras $sl_n(\mathbb{C})$ obtained from commutative and symplectic semifields, and from some other non-semifield symplectic spreads. Relations between various constructions are also studied. We show that the automorphism group of a complete set of MUBs is isomorphic to the automorphism group of the corresponding orthogonal decomposition of the Lie algebra $sl_n(\mathbb{C})$. In the case of symplectic spreads this automorphism group is determined by the automorphism group of the spread. By using the new notion of pseudo-planar functions over fields of characteristic two we give new explicit constructions of complete sets of MUBs.

This paper establishes a uniform procedure to split the operations in any algebraic operad, generalizing previous known notions of splitting algebraic structures from the dendriform algebra of Loday that splits the associative operation to the successors that split any binary operad. Examples are provided for various $n$-associative algebras, $n$-Lie algebras, $A_\infty$ algebras and $L_\infty$ algebras. Further, the concept of a Rota-Baxter operator, first showing its importance in the associative and Lie algebra context and then generalized to any binary operads, is generalized to arbitrary operads. The classical links from the Rota-Baxter associative algebra to the dendriform algebra and its numerous generalizations are further generalized and unified as the link from the Rota-Baxter operator on an operad to the splitting of the operad. Finally, the remarkable fact that any dendriform algebra can be recovered from a relative Rota-Baxter operator is generalized to the context of operads with the generalized notion of a relative Rota-Baxter operator for any operad.
Complex Lines with Restricted Angles
This thesis is a study of large sets of unit vectors in $\cx^n$ such that the absolute value of their standard inner products takes on only a small number of values.
We begin with bounds: what is the maximal size of a set of lines with only a given set of angles? We rederive a series of upper bounds originally due to Delsarte, Goethals and Seidel, but in a novel way using only zonal polynomials and linear algebra. In the process we get some new results about complex $t$-designs and also some new characterizations of tightness.
Next we consider constructions. We describe some generic constructions using linear codes and Cayley graphs, and then move to two specific instances of the problem: mutually unbiased bases and equiangular lines. Both cases are motivated by problems in quantum computing, although they have applications in digital communications as well.
Mutually unbiased bases are collections of orthonormal bases with a constant angle between vectors from different bases. We construct some maximal sets in prime-power dimensions, originally due to Calderbank, Cameron, Kantor and Seidel, but again in a novel way using relative difference sets or distance-regular antipodal covers. We also detail their numerous relations to other combinatorial objects, including symplectic spreads, orthogonal decompositions of Lie algebras, and spin models. Peripherally, we discuss mutually unbiased bases in small dimensions that are not prime powers and in real vector spaces.
Equiangular lines are collections of vectors with only one angle between them. We use difference sets from finite geometry to construct equiangular lines: these sets do not have maximal size, but they are maximal with respect to having all entries of the same absolute value. We also include some negative results about constructions of maximal sets in large dimensions.

A Lie theoretic interpretation is given for some formulas of Schur functions and Schur $Q$-functions. Two realizations of the basic representation of the Lie algebra $A^{(2)}_2$ are considered; one is on the fermionic Fock space and the other is on the bosonic polynomial space. Via the boson-fermion correspondence, simple relations of the vacuum expectation values of fermions turn out to be algebraic relations of Schur functions.

The Weyl-Kac character formula gives a beautiful closed-form expression for the characters of integrable highest-weight modules of Kac-Moody algebras. It is not, however, a formula that is combinatorial in nature, obscuring positivity. In this paper we show that the theory of Hall-Littlewood polynomials may be employed to prove Littlewood-type combinatorial formulas for the characters of certain highest weight modules of the affine Lie algebras C_n^{(1)}, A_{2n}^{(2)} and D_{n+1}^{(2)}. Through specialisation this yields generalisations for B_n^{(1)}, C_n^{(1)}, A_{2n-1}^{(2)}, A_{2n}^{(2)} and D_{n+1}^{(2)} of Macdonald's identities for powers of the Dedekind eta-function. These generalised eta-function identities include the Rogers-Ramanujan, Andrews-Gordon and Göllnitz-Gordon q-series as special, low-rank cases.

We give a new interpretation of the chromatic polynomial of a simple graph G in terms of the Kac-Moody Lie algebra with Dynkin diagram G. We show that the chromatic polynomial is essentially the q-Kostant partition function of this Lie algebra evaluated on the sum of the simple roots. Applying the Peterson recurrence formula for root multiplicities, we obtain a new realization of the chromatic polynomial as a weighted sum of paths in the bond lattice of G.
An Elementary Approach to Weight Multiplicities in Bivariate Irreducible Representations of Sp(2r)

By bivariate irreducible representations of ${\rm Sp}(2r)$, we mean irreducible representations with highest weights containing at most two nonzero entries, using the usual identification of dominant weights for complex symplectic Lie algebras and their corresponding Lie groups as $r$-tuples in decreasing non-negative integers. This paper has two aims. The first aim is to provide a formula for the weight mulitplicities of said representations, which is easily computable. The second aim is to present these weight multiplicities using elementary means. The formula for these weight multiplicities is derived using basic multiliear algebra and combinatorial arguments through explicit descriptions of weight vectors.
From dynamical systems to renormalization

We study in this paper logarithmic derivatives associated to derivations on graded complete Lie algebra, as well as the existence of inverses. These logarithmic derivatives, when invertible, generalize the exp-log correspondence between a Lie algebra and its Lie group. Such correspondences occur naturally in the study of dynamical systems when dealing with the linearization of vector fields and the non-linearizability of a resonant vector fields corresponds to the non-invertibility of a logarithmic derivative and to the existence of normal forms. These concepts, stemming from the theory of dynamical systems, can be rephrased in the abstract setting of Lie algebra and the same difficulties as in perturbative quantum field theory (pQFT) arise here. Surprisingly, one can adopt the same ideas as in pQFT with fruitful results such as new constructions of normal forms with the help of the Birkhoff decomposition. The analogy goes even further (locality of counter terms, choice of a renormalization scheme) and shall lead to more interactions between dynamical systems and quantum field theory.

In this paper we study general highest weight modules $\mathbb{V}^λ$ over a complex finite-dimensional semisimple Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$. We present three formulas for the set of weights of a large family of modules $\mathbb{V}^λ$, which include but are not restricted to all simple modules and all parabolic Verma modules. These formulas are direct and do not involve cancellations, and were not previously known in the literature. Our results extend the notion of the Weyl polytope to general highest weight $\mathfrak{g}$-modules $\mathbb{V}^λ$.
We also show that for all simple modules, the convex hull of the weights is a $W_J$-invariant polyhedron for some parabolic subgroup $W_J$. We compute its vertices, faces, and symmetries - more generally, we also do this for all parabolic Verma modules, and for all modules $\mathbb{V}^λ$ with highest weight $λ$ not on a simple root hyperplane. To show our results, we extend the notion of convexity to arbitrary additive subgroups $\mathbb{A} \subset (\mathbb{R},+)$ of coefficients. Our techniques enable us to completely classify "weak $\mathbb{A}$-faces" of the support sets ${\rm wt}(\mathbb{V}^λ)$, in the process extending classical results of Satake, Borel-Tits, Vinberg, and Casselman, as well as modern variants by Chari-Dolbin-Ridenour and Cellini-Marietti, to general highest weight modules.
Ricci-flat graphs with girth at least five

A graph is called Ricci-flat if its Ricci-curvatures vanish on all edges. Here we use the definition of Ricci-cruvature on graphs given in [Lin-Lu-Yau, Tohoku Math., 2011], which is a variation of [Ollivier, J. Funct. Math., 2009]. In this paper, we classified all Ricci-flat connected graphs with girth at least five: they are the infinite path, cycle $C_n$ ($n\geq 6$), the dodecahedral graph, the Petersen graph, and the half-dodecahedral graph. We also construct many Ricci-flat graphs with girth 3 or 4 by using the root systems of simple Lie algebras.
Extended partial order and applications to tensor products
We extend the preorder on k-tuples of dominant weights of a simple complex Lie algebra g of classical type adding up to a fixed weight $λ$ defined by V. Chari, D. Sagaki and the author. We show that the induced extended partial order on the equivalence classes has a unique minimal and a unique maximal element. For k=2 we compute its size and determine the cover relation.
To each k-tuple we associate a tensor product of simple g-modules and we show that for k=2 the dimension increases also along with the extended partial order, generalizing a theorem proved in the aforementioned paper. We also show that the tensor product associated to the maximal element has the biggest dimension among all tuples for arbitrary k, indicating that this might be a symplectic (resp. orthogonal) analogon of the row shuffle defined by Fomin et al.
The extension of the partial order reduces the number of elements in the cover relation and may facilitate the proof of an analogon of Schur positivity along the partial order for symplectic and orthogonal types.

We describe how Mirkovic-Vilonen polytopes arise naturally from the categorification of Lie algebras using Khovanov-Lauda-Rouquier algebras. This gives an explicit description of the unique crystal isomorphism between simple representations of the KLR algebra and MV polytopes.
MV polytopes, as defined from the geometry of the affine Grassmannian, only make sense for finite dimensional semi-simple Lie algebras, but our construction actually gives a map from the infinity crystal to polytopes in all symmetrizable Kac-Moody algebras. However, to make the map injective and have well-defined crystal operators on the image, we must in general decorate our polytopes with some extra information. We suggest that the resulting KLR polytopes are the general-type analogues of MV polytopes.
We give a combinatorial description of the resulting decorated polytopes in all affine cases, and show that this recovers the affine MV polytopes recently defined by Kamnitzer and Baumann and the first author in symmetric affine types. We also briefly discuss the situation beyond affine type.

Let g be a complex finite-dimensional simple Lie algebra. Given a positive integer k and a dominant weight λ, we define a preorder on the set $P(λ, k)$ of k-tuples of dominant weights which add up to λ. Let $P(λ, k)/\sim$ be the corresponding poset of equivalence classes defined by the preorder. We show that if λis a multiple of a fundamental weight (and k is general) or if k=2 (and λis general), then $P(λ, k)/\sim$ coincides with the set of S_k-orbits in $P(λ,k)$, where S_k acts on $P(λ, k)$ as the permutations of components. If g is of type A_n and k=2, we show that the S_2-orbit of the row shuffle defined by Fomin et al is the unique maximal element in the poset.
Given an element of $P(λ, k)$, consider the tensor product of the corresponding simple finite-dimensional g-modules. We show that (for general g, λ, and k) the dimension of this tensor product increases along with the partial order.
We also show that in the case when λis a multiple of a fundamental minuscule weight (g and k are general) or if g is of type A_2 and k=2 (λis general), there exists an inclusion of tensor products of g-modules along with the partial order. In particular, if g is of type A_n, this means that the difference of the characters is Schur positive.

In this paper we study (associative) Nijenhuis algebras, with emphasis on the relationship between the category of Nijenhuis algebras and the categories of NS algebras. This is in analogy to the well-known theory of the adjoint functor from the category of Lie algebras to that of associative algebras, and the more recent results on the adjoint functor from the categories of dendriform and tridendriform algebras to that of Rota-Baxter algebras. We first give an explicit construction of free Nijenhuis algebras and then apply it to obtain the universal enveloping Nijenhuis algebra of an NS algebra. We further apply the construction to determine the binary quadratic nonsymmetric algebra, called the N-dendriform algebra, that is compatible with the Nijenhuis algebra. As it turns out, the N-dendriform algebra has more relations than the NS algebra.
On the Poincaré series of Kac-Moody Lie algebras
In this paper, we discuss the Poincaré series of Kac-Moody Lie algebras, especially for indefinite type. Firstly, we compute the Poincaré series of certain indefinite Kac-Moody Lie algebras whose Cartan matrices have the same type of $2\times 2$ principal sub-matrices. Secondly, we show that the Poincaré series of Kac-Moody Lie algebras satisfy certain interesting properties. Lastly we give some applications of the Poincaré series to other fields. Particularly we construct some counter examples to a conjecture of Victor Kac\cite{Kac_85} and a conjecture of Chapavalov, Leites and Stekolshchik\cite{CDR_10}.
Representations of general linear groups and categorical actions of Kac-Moody algebras
This is an expanded version of the lectures given by the author on the 3rd school "Lie algebras, algebraic groups and invariant theory" in Togliatti, Russia. In these notes we explain the concept of a categorical Kac-Moody action by studying an example of the category of rational representations of a general linear group in positive characteristic. We also deal with some more advanced topics: a categorical action on the polynomial representations and crystals of categorical actions.

We study the root polytope $\mathcal P_Φ$ of a finite irreducible crystallographic root system $Φ$ using its relation with the abelian ideals of a Borel subalgebra of a simple Lie algebra with root system $Φ$. We determine the hyperplane arrangement corresponding to the faces of codimension 2 of $\mathcal P_Φ$ and analyze its relation with the facets of $\mathcal P_Φ$. For $Φ$ of type $A_n$ or $C_n$, we show that the orbits of some special subsets of abelian ideals under the action of the Weyl group parametrize a triangulation of $\mathcal P_Φ$. We show that this triangulation restricts to a triangulation of the positive root polytope $\mathcal P_Φ^+$.
