We consider the problem of finding a Young diagram minimizing the sum of evaluations of a given pair of functions on the parts of the associated pair of conjugate partitions. While there are exponentially many diagrams, we show it is polynomial time solvable.

Let $n\ge 1$, $r\ge 2$, and $s\ge 0$ be integers and ${\cal P}=\{P_1,\dots, P_l\}$ be a partition of $[n]=\{1,\dots, n\}$ with $|P_i|\le r$ for $i=1,\dots, l$. Also, let $\cal F$ be a family of non-empty subsets of $[n]$. The $r$-uniform Kneser-type hypergraph $\mbox{KG}^r({\cal F}, {\cal P},s)$ is the hypergraph with the vertex set of all $\cal P$-admissible elements $F\in {\cal F}$, that is $|F\cap P_i|\le 1$ for $i=1,\dots, l$ and the edge set of all $r$-subsets $\{F_1,\dots, F_r\}$ of the vertex set that $|F_i\cap F_j|\le s$ for all $1\le i<j\le r$. In this article, we extend the equitable $r$-colorability defect $\mbox{ecd}^r({\cal F})$ of Abyazi Sani and Alishahi to the case when one allows intersection among the vertices of an edge. It will be denoted by $\mbox{ecd}^r({\cal F},s)$. We then, give (under certain assumptions) lower bounds for the chromatic number of $\mbox{KG}^r({\cal F}, {\cal P},s)$ and some of its variants in terms of $\mbox{ecd}^r({\cal F},\lfloor s/2\rfloor)$. This work generalizes many existing results in the literature of the Kneser hypergraphs. It generalizes the previous results of the current authors from the special family of all $k$-subsets of $[n]$ to a general family $\cal F$ of subsets.

Consider equipping an alphabet $\mathcal{A}$ with a group action that partitions the set of words into equivalence classes which we call patterns. We answer standard questions for the Penney's game on patterns and show non-transitivity for the game on patterns as the length of the pattern tends to infinity. We also analyze bounds on the pattern-based Conway leading number and expected wait time, and further explore the game under the cyclic and symmetric group actions.

Suppose $G$ and $H$ are bipartite graphs and $L: V(G)\to 2^{V(H)}$ induces a partition of $V(H)$ such that the subgraph of $H$ induced between $L(v)$ and $L(v')$ is a matching whenever $vv'\in E(G)$. We show for each $\varepsilon>0$ that, if $H$ has maximum degree $D$ and $|L(v)| \ge (1+\varepsilon)D/\log D$ for all $v\in V(G)$, then $H$ admits an independent transversal with respect to $L$, provided $D$ is sufficiently large. This bound on the part sizes is asymptotically sharp up to a factor $2$. We also show some asymmetric variants of this result.
Shift-plethysm, Hydra continued fractions, and m-distinct partitions

We introduce the hydra continued fractions, as a generalization of the Rogers-Ramanujan continued fractions, and give a combinatorial interpretation in terms of shift-plethystic trees. We then show it is possible to express them as a quotient of m-distinct partition generating functions, and in its dual form as a quotient of the generating functions of compositions with contiguous rises upper bounded by m-1. We obtain new generating functions for compositions according to their local minima, for partitions with a prescribed set of rises, and for compositions with prescribed sets of contiguous differences.

Neretin constructed an analogue of the Hua measures on the infinite $p$-adic matrices $Mat\left(\mathbb{N},\mathbb{Q}_p\right)$. Bufetov and Qiu classified the ergodic measures on $Mat\left(\mathbb{N},\mathbb{Q}_p\right)$ that are invariant under the natural action of $GL(\infty,\mathbb{Z}_p)\times GL(\infty,\mathbb{Z}_p)$. In this paper we solve the problem of ergodic decomposition for the $p$-adic Hua measures introduced by Neretin. We prove that the probability measure governing the ergodic decomposition has an explicit expression which identifies it with a Hall-Littlewood measure on partitions. Our arguments involve certain Markov chains.
$q{\rm RS}t$: A probabilistic Robinson--Schensted correspondence for Macdonald polynomials

We present a probabilistic generalization of the Robinson--Schensted correspondence in which a permutation maps to several different pairs of standard Young tableaux with nonzero probability. The probabilities depend on two parameters $q$ and $t$, and the correspondence gives a new proof of the squarefree part of the Cauchy identity for Macdonald polynomials (i.e., the equality of the coefficients of $x_1 \cdots x_n y_1 \cdots y_n$ on either side, which are related to permutations and standard Young tableaux). By specializing $q$ and $t$ in various ways, one recovers the row and column insertion versions of the Robinson--Schensted correspondence, several $q$- and $t$-deformations of row and column insertion which have been introduced in recent years in connection with $q$-Whittaker and Hall--Littlewood processes, and the Plancherel measure on partitions. Our construction is based on Fomin's growth diagrams and the recently introduced notion of a probabilistic bijection between weighted sets.

In this note I prove a~claim on determinants of some special tridiagonal matrices. Together with my result about Fibonacci partitions (arXiv:math/0307150), this claim allows one to prove one (slightly strengthened) Shallit's result about such partitions.
Incidence bounds on Edge Partitions of $K_n$
We solve a problem conjectured by Cheriyan, giving sharp bounds for incidence of certain edge partitions of the connected graph on $n$-vertices. We briefly discuss the history of the problem and relation to node connectivity of strongly regular graphs. We show that the bound cannot be made sharper.

In this paper, we consider the decomposition of multigraphs under minimum degree constraints and give a unified generalization of several results by various researchers. Let $G$ be a multigraph in which no quadrilaterals share edges with triangles and other quadrilaterals and let $μ_G(v)=\max\{μ_G(u,v):u\in V(G)\setminus\{v\}\}$, where $μ_G(u,v)$ is the number of edges joining $u$ and $v$ in $G$. We show that for any two functions $a,b:V(G)\rightarrow\mathbb{N}\setminus\{0,1\}$, if $d_G(v)\ge a(v)+b(v)+2μ_G(v)-3$ for each $v\in V(G)$, then there is a partition $(X,Y)$ of $V(G)$ such that $d_X(x)\geq a(x)$ for each $x\in X$ and $d_Y(y)\geq b(y)$ for each $y\in Y$. This extends the related results due to Diwan [3], Liu and Xu [7] and Ma and Yang [10] on simple graphs to the multigraph setting.
Big Ramsey degrees using parameter spaces

We show that the universal homogeneous partial order has finite big Ramsey degrees and discuss several corollaries. Our proof relies on parameter spaces and the Carlson-Simpson theorem rather than on (a strengthening of) the Halpern-Läuchli theorem and the Milliken tree theorem, which are typically used to bound big Ramsey degrees in the existing literature (originating from the work of Laver and Milliken).
This new technique has many additional applications. We show that the homogeneous universal triangle-free graph has finite big Ramsey degrees, providing a short proof of a recent result by Dobrinen. Moreover, generalizing an indivisibility (vertex partition) result of Nguyen van Thé and Sauer, we give an upper bound on big Ramsey degrees of metric spaces with finitely many distances. This leads to a new combinatorial argument for the oscillation stability of the Urysohn Sphere.
Pattern avoidance in the matching pattern poset
A matching of the set $[2n]=\{ 1,2,\ldots ,2n\}$ is a partition of $[2n]$ into blocks with two elements, i.e. a graph on $[2n]$ such that every vertex has degree one. Given two matchings $σ$ and $τ$ , we say that $σ$ is a pattern of $τ$ when $σ$ can be obtained from $τ$ by deleting some of its edges and consistently relabelling the remaining vertices. This is a partial order relation turning the set of all matchings into a poset, which will be called the matching pattern poset. In this paper, we continue the study of classes of pattern avoiding matchings, initiated by Chen, Deng, Du, Stanley and Yan (2007), Jelinek and Mansour (2010), Bloom and Elizalde (2012). In particular, we work out explicit formulas to enumerate the class of matchings avoiding two new patterns, obtained by juxtaposition of smaller patterns, and we describe a recursive formula for the generating function of the class of matchings avoiding the lifting of a pattern and two additional patterns. Finally, we introduce the notion of unlabeled pattern, as a combinatorial way to collect patterns, and we provide enumerative formulas for two classes of matchings avoiding an unlabeled pattern of order three. In one case, the enumeration follows from an interesting bijection between the matchings of the class and ternary trees.
Quantum stabilizer codes, lattices, and CFTs

There is a rich connection between classical error-correcting codes, Euclidean lattices, and chiral conformal field theories. Here we show that quantum error-correcting codes, those of the stabilizer type, are related to Lorentzian lattices and non-chiral CFTs. More specifically, real self-dual stabilizer codes can be associated with even self-dual Lorentzian lattices, and thus define Narain CFTs. We dub the resulting theories code CFTs and study their properties. T-duality transformations of a code CFT, at the level of the underlying code, reduce to code equivalences. By means of such equivalences, any stabilizer code can be reduced to a graph code. We can therefore represent code CFTs by graphs. We study code CFTs with small central charge $c=n\leq 12$, and find many interesting examples. Among them is a non-chiral $E_8$ theory, which is based on the root lattice of $E_8$ understood as an even self-dual Lorentzian lattice. By analyzing all graphs with $n\leq 8$ nodes we find many pairs and triples of physically distinct isospectral theories. We also construct numerous modular invariant functions satisfying all the basic properties expected of the CFT partition function, yet which are not partition functions of any known CFTs. We consider the ensemble average over all code theories, calculate the corresponding partition function, and discuss its possible holographic interpretation. The paper is written in a self-contained manner, and includes an extensive pedagogical introduction and many explicit examples.

We study some combinatorial properties of higher-dimensional partitions which generalize plane partitions. We present a natural bijection between $d$-dimensional partitions and $d$-dimensional arrays of nonnegative integers. This bijection has a number of important applications. We introduce a statistic on $d$-dimensional partitions, called the corner-hook volume, whose generating function has the formula of MacMahon's conjecture. We obtain multivariable formulas whose specializations give analogues of various formulas known for plane partitions. We also introduce higher-dimensional analogues of dual Grothendieck polynomials which are quasisymmetric functions and whose specializations enumerate higher-dimensional partitions of a given shape. Finally, we show probabilistic connections with a directed last passage percolation model in $\mathbb{Z}^d$.
Set Partition Patterns and the Dimension Index
The notion of containment and avoidance provides a natural partial ordering on set partitions. Work of Sagan and of Goyt has led to enumerative results in avoidance classes of set partitions, which were refined by Dahlberg et al. through the use of combinatorial statistics. We continue this work by computing the distribution of the dimension index (a statistic arising from the supercharacter theory of finite groups) across certain avoidance classes of partitions. In doing so we obtain a novel connection between noncrossing partitions and 321-avoiding permutations, as well as connections to many other combinatorial objects such as Motzkin and Fibonacci polynomials.
Forest expansion of two-body partition functions for sparse interaction graphs

We study tree approximations to classical two-body partition functions on sparse and loopy graphs via the Brydges-Kennedy-Abdessalam-Rivasseau forest expansion. We show that for sparse graphs (with large cycles), the partition function above a certain temperature $T^*$ can be approximated by a graph polynomial expansion over forests of the interaction graph. Within this "forest phase", we show that the approximation can be written in terms of a reference tree $\mathcal T$ on the interaction graph, with corrections due to cycles. From this point of view, this implies that high-temperature models are easy to solve on sparse graphs, as one can evaluate the partition function using belief propagation. We also show that there exists a high- and low-temperature regime, in which $\mathcal T$ can be obtained via a maximal spanning tree algorithm on a (given) weighted graph. We study the algebra of these corrections and provide first- and second-order approximation to the tree Ansatz, and give explicit examples for the first-order approximation.
Pattern Matching in Set Partitions is NP-Complete
In this note we show that pattern matching in permutations is polynomial time reducible to pattern matching in set partitions. In particular, pattern matching in set partitions is NP-Complete.

We derive a new explicit formula in terms of sums over graphs for the $n$-point correlation functions of general formal weighted double Hurwitz numbers coming from the Kadomtsev-Petviashvili tau functions of hypergeometric type (also known as Orlov-Scherbin partition functions). Notably, we use the change of variables suggested by the associated spectral curve, and our formula turns out to be a polynomial expression in a certain small set of formal functions defined on the spectral curve.
Hochschild lattices and shuffle lattices

In his study of a Hochschild complex arising in connection with the free loop fibration, S. Saneblidze defined the freehedron, a certain polytope constructed via a truncation process from the hypercube. It was recently conjectured by F. Chapoton and proven by C. Combe that a certain orientation of the $1$-skeleton of the freehedron carries a lattice structure. The resulting lattice was dubbed the Hochschild lattice and is congruence uniform and extremal. These properties allow for the definition of three associated structures: the Galois graph, the canonical join complex and the core label order. In this article, we study and characterize these structures. We exhibit an isomorphism from the core label order of the Hochschild lattice to a particular shuffle lattice of C. Greene. We also uncover an enumerative connection between the core label order of the Hochschild lattice, a certain order extension of its poset of irreducibles and the freehedron. These connections nicely parallel the situation surrounding the better-known Tamari lattices, noncrossing partition lattices and associahedra.

In this paper we obtain the necessary condition for the existence of perfect $k$-colorings (equitable $k$-partitions) in Hamming graphs $H(n,q)$, where $q=2,3,4$ and Doob graphs $D(m,n)$. As an application, we prove the non-existence of extended perfect codes in $H(n,q)$, where $q=3,4$, $n>q+2$, and in $D(m,n)$, where $2m+n>6$.
