Chromatic symmetric functions of claw-free graphs are not Schur positive
Chromatic symmetric functions are well-studied symmetric functions in algebraic combinatorics that generalize chromatic polynomials of graphs. In 1995, Stanley introduced these symmetric functions and conjectured that they are Schur positive for claw-free graphs. We give examples of a line graphs, which are thus claw-free, whose chromatic symmetric function have a negative coefficient in its Schur expansion. We also give a counterexample to the 2018 conjecture of Monical that Schur positive chromatic symmetric functions have saturated Newton polytope when expanded in any finite number of variables. Both of these examples were found using ChatGPT-5.6 Sol Pro.
Symmetry of the generating function of semistandard oscillating tableaux
H.Choi-D.Kim-S.J.Lee and S.J.Lee introduced a new kind of tableaux, semistandard oscillating tableaux (SSOT), around 2024 in the context of Lusztig $q$-weight multiplicities, KR crystals and King tableaux. In this paper, we study generating function of the SSOTs and its symmetry. First, we extend Gessel's and Assaf-Searles' expansion of a Schur function in terms of fundamental quasi-symmetric functions to our generating function. As a consequence, we show that it is $F$-positive. Further, we improve Sundaram's work on oscillating tableaux by proving that it is symmetric, Schur-positive, and has Saturated Newton polytope.
Saturation for Non-Symmetric Macdonald Polynomials
We prove that supports of non-symmetric Macdonald polynomials are $M$-convex. As a consequence, we resolve a 2019 conjecture of Monical, Tokcan, and Yong that they have the saturated Newton polytope property. As a further consequence, we prove that the moment polytopes of affine Schubert varieties in the affine Grassmannian of type $\mathrm{GL}$ are generalized permutahedra.
Supersymmetric Schur polynomials have saturated Newton polytopes
We prove that every supersymmetric Schur polynomial has a saturated Newton polytope (SNP). Our approach begins with a tableau-theoretic description of the support, which we encode as a polyhedron with a totally unimodular constraint matrix. The integrality of this polyhedron follows from the Hoffman-Kruskal criterion, thereby establishing the SNP property.
Hybrid Grothendieck polynomials
For a skew shape $λ/μ$, we define the hybrid Grothendieck polynomial $${G}_{λ/μ}(\textbf{x};\textbf{t};\textbf{w}) =\sum_{T\in \mathrm{SVRPP}(λ/μ)} \textbf{x}^{\mathrm{ircont}(T)}\textbf{t}^{\mathrm{ceq} (T)}\textbf{w}^{\mathrm{ex}(T)}$$ as a weight generating function over set-valued reverse plane partitions of shape $λ/μ$. It specializes to \begin{itemize}
\item[(1)] the refined
stable Grothendieck polynomial introduced by Chan--Pflueger by setting all $t_i=0$;
\item[(2)] the refined dual stable Grothendieck polynomial introduced by Galashin--Grinberg--Liu by setting all $w_i=0$. \end{itemize}
We show that ${G}_{λ/μ}(\textbf{x};\textbf{t};\textbf{w})$ is symmetric in the $\textbf{x}$ variables. By building a crystal structure on set-valued reverse plane partitions, we obtain the expansion of ${G}_{λ/μ}(\textbf{x};\textbf{t};\textbf{w})$ in the basis of Schur functions, extending previous work by Monical--Pechenik--Scrimshaw and Galashin. Based on the Schur expansion, we deduce that hybrid Grothendieck polynomials of straight shapes have saturated Newton polytopes. Finally, using Fomin--Greene's theory on noncommutative Schur functions, we give a combinatorial formula for the image of ${G}_{λ/μ}(\textbf{x};\textbf{t};\textbf{w})$ (in the case $t_i=α$ and $w_i=β$) under the omega involution on symmetric functions. The formula unifies the structures of weak set-valued tableaux and valued-set tableaux introduced by Lam--Pylyavskyy. Several problems and conjectures are motivated and discussed.
IDP for 2-Partition Maximal Symmetric Polytopes
We provide a framework for which one can approach showing the integer decomposition property for symmetric polytopes. We utilize this framework to prove a special case which we refer to as $2$-partition maximal polytopes in the case where it lies in a hyperplane of $\mathbb{R}^3$. Our method involves proving a special collection of polynomials have saturated Newton polytope.

Rado's theorem about permutahedra and dominance order on partitions reveals that each Schur polynomial is M-convex, or equivalently, it has a saturated Newton polytope and this polytope is a generalized permutahedron as well. In this paper we show that the support of each dual $k$-Schur polynomial indexed by a $k$-bounded partition coincides with that of the Schur polynomial indexed by the same partition, and hence the two polynomials share the same saturated Newton polytope. The main result is based on our recursive algorithm to generate a semistandard $k$-tableau for a given shape and $k$-weight. As consequences, we obtain the M-convexity of dual $k$-Schur polynomials, affine Stanley symmetric polynomials and cylindric skew Schur polynomials.
The Newton polytope of the Kronecker product
We study the Kronecker product of two Schur functions $s_λ\ast s_μ$, defined as the image of the characteristic map of the product of two $S_n$ irreducible characters. We prove special cases of a conjecture of Monical--Tokcan--Yong that its monomial expansion has a saturated Newton polytope. Our proofs employ the Horn inequalities for positivity of Littlewood-Richardson coefficients and imply necessary conditions for the positivity of Kronecker coefficients.

We introduce a general class of symmetric polynomials that have saturated Newton polytope and their Newton polytope has integer decomposition property. The class covers numerous previously studied symmetric polynomials.

We prove that double Schubert polynomials have the Saturated Newton Polytope property. This settles a conjecture by Monical, Tokcan and Yong. Our ideas are motivated by the theory of multidegrees. We introduce a notion of standardization of ideals that enables us to study non-standard multigradings. This allows us to show that the support of the multidegree polynomial of each Cohen-Macaulay prime ideal, and in particular, that of each Schubert determinantal ideal is a discrete polymatroid.

Given a family of lattice polytopes, two common questions in Ehrhart Theory are determining when a polytope has the integer decomposition property and determining when a polytope is reflexive. While these properties are of independent interest, the confluence of these properties is a source of active investigation due to conjectures regarding the unimodality of the $h^\ast$-polynomial. In this paper, we consider the Newton polytopes arising from two families of polynomials in algebraic combinatorics: Schur polynomials and inflated symmetric Grothendieck polynomials. In both cases, we prove that these polytopes have the integer decomposition property by using the fact that both families of polynomials have saturated Newton polytope. Furthermore, in both cases, we provide a complete characterization of when these polytopes are reflexive. We conclude with some explicit formulas and unimodality implications of the $h^\ast$-vector in the case of Schur polynomials.

The nonvanishing problem asks if a coefficient of a polynomial is nonzero. Many families of polynomials in algebraic combinatorics admit combinatorial counting rules and simultaneously enjoy having saturated Newton polytopes (SNP). Thereby, in amenable cases, nonvanishing is in the complexity class $NP\cap coNP$ of problems with "good characterizations". This suggests a new algebraic combinatorics viewpoint on complexity theory.
This report discusses the case of Schubert polynomials. These form a basis of all polynomials and appear in the study of cohomology rings of flag manifolds. We give a tableau criterion for nonvanishing, from which we deduce the first polynomial time algorithm. These results are obtained from new characterizations of the Schubitope, a generalization of the permutahedron defined for any subset of the n x n grid, together with a theorem of A. Fink, K. Mészáros, and A. St. Dizier, which proved a conjecture of C. Monical, N. Tokcan, and the third author.

D. Grigoriev-G. Koshevoy recently proved that tropical Schur polynomials have (at worst) polynomial tropical semiring complexity. They also conjectured tropical skew Schur polynomials have at least exponential complexity; we establish a polynomial complexity upper bound. Our proof uses results about (stable) Schubert polynomials, due to R. P. Stanley and S. Billey-W. Jockusch-R. P. Stanley, together with a sufficient condition for polynomial complexity that is connected to the saturated Newton polytope property.

Symmetric Grothendieck polynomials are inhomogeneous versions of Schur polynomials that arise in combinatorial $K$-theory. A polynomial has saturated Newton polytope (SNP) if every lattice point in the polytope is an exponent vector. We show Newton polytopes of these Grothendieck polynomials and their homogeneous components have SNP. Moreover, the Newton polytope of each homogeneous component is a permutahedron. This addresses recent conjectures of C. Monical-N. Tokcan-A. Yong and of A. Fink-K. Mészáros-A. St. Dizier in this special case.
From generalized permutahedra to Grothendieck polynomials via flow polytopes
We study a family of dissections of flow polytopes arising from the subdivision algebra. To each dissection of a flow polytope, we associate a polynomial, called the left-degree polynomial, which we show is invariant of the dissection considered (proven independently by Grinberg). We prove that left-degree polynomials encode integer points of generalized permutahedra. Using that certain left-degree polynomials are related to Grothendieck polynomials, we resolve special cases of conjectures by Monical, Tokcan, and Yong regarding the saturated Newton polytope property of Grothendieck polynomials.

A polynomial has saturated Newton polytope (SNP) if every lattice point of the convex hull of its exponent vectors corresponds to a monomial. We compile instances of SNP in algebraic combinatorics (some with proofs, others conjecturally): skew Schur polynomials; symmetric polynomials associated to reduced words, Redfield--Polya theory, Witt vectors, and totally nonnegative matrices; resultants; discriminants (up to quartics); Macdonald polynomials; key polynomials; Demazure atoms; Schubert polynomials; and Grothendieck polynomials, among others.
Our principal construction is the Schubitope. For any subset of [n] x [n], we describe it by linear inequalities. This generalized permutahedron conjecturally has positive Ehrhart polynomial. We conjecture it describes the Newton polytope of Schubert and key polynomials. We also define dominance order on permutations and study its poset-theoretic properties.
