The m=2 amplituhedron
The (tree) amplituhedron $\mathcal{A}_{n, k, m}$ is introduced by Arkani-Hamed and Trnka in 2013 in the study of $\mathcal{N}=4$ supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory. It is defined in terms of the totally nonnegative Grassmannians. In this paper, we show that the amplituhedron $\mathcal{A}_{n, k, m}$ for $m=2$ admits a triangulation. Our collection of cells is constructed via BCFW-type recursion. We also provide a diagrammatic interpretation of our construction.
Symmetric functions in superspace: a compendium of results and open problems (including a SageMath worksheet)
We present a review of the most important results in the theory of symmetric functions in superspace (or symmetric superpolynomials), summarizing all principal contributions since its introduction in 2001 in the context of the supersymmetric Calogero-Moser-Sutherland integrable model. We also mention some open problems which remain unanswered at this moment, in particular the connection with representation theory. In addition, we provide a free open access source code, relying on SageMath library, that can be used as a research tool for symmetric superpolynomials. The content is directed to an audience new to this research area, but who is familiar with the classical theory of symmetric functions.

We study the rank N magnificent four theory, which is the supersymmetric localization of U(N) super-Yang-Mills theory with matter (a super-group U(N|N) gauge theory) on a Calabi-Yau fourfold. Our theory contains the higher rank Donaldson-Thomas theory of threefolds. We conjecture an explicit formula for the partition function Z, and report on the performed checks. The partition function Z has a free field representation. Surprisingly, it depends on the Coulomb and mass parameters in a simple way. We also clarify the definition of the instanton measure.

The (tree) amplituhedron $\mathcal A_{n,k,m}(Z)$ is a certain subset of the Grassmannian introduced by Arkani-Hamed and Trnka in 2013 in order to study scattering amplitudes in $N=4$ supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory. Confirming a conjecture of the first author, we show that when $m$ is even, a collection of affine permutations yields a triangulation of $\mathcal A_{n,k,m}(Z)$ for any $Z\in \operatorname{Gr}_{>0}(k+m,n)$ if and only if the collection of their inverses yields a triangulation of $\mathcal A_{n,n-m-k,m}(Z)$ for any $Z\in\operatorname{Gr}_{>0}(n-k,n)$. We prove this duality using the twist map of Marsh and Scott. We also show that this map preserves the canonical differential forms associated with the corresponding positroid cells, and hence obtain a parity duality for amplituhedron differential forms.

Permutations and associated algebras allow the construction of half and quarter BPS operators in maximally supersymmetric Yang Mills theory with $U(N)$, $SO(N)$ and $Sp(N) $ gauge groups. The construction leads to bases for the operators, labelled by Young diagrams and associated group theory data, which have been shown to be orthogonal under the inner product defined by the free field two-point functions. In this paper, we study in detail the orientifold projection map between the Young diagram basis for $U(N)$ theories and the Young diagram basis for $ SO(N)$ (and $ Sp(N)$) half-BPS operators. We find a simple connection between this map and the plethystic refinement of the Littlewood Richardson coefficients which couple triples of Young diagrams where two of them are identical. This plethystic refinement is known to be computable using an algorithm based on domino tilings of Young diagrams. We discuss the domino combinatorics of the orientifold projection map in terms of giant graviton branes. The permutation construction of $SO(N)$ operators is used to find large N generating functions. The structure of these generating functions is elucidated using the combinatorics of words, organised according to their periodicity. Aperiodic words in the $U(N)$ theory are Lyndon words and an $SO(N)$ analogue of Lyndon words is defined using a minimal periodicity condition. We calculate the normalization factor for the orthogonal basis of Young diagram operators in the baryonic sector of $SO(N)$.

We study the geometry underlying the Wilson loop diagram approach to calculating scattering amplitudes in the gauge theory of Supersymmetric Yang Mills (SYM) $N=4$. By applying the tools developed to study total positivity in the real Grassmannian, we are able to systematically compute with all Wilson loop diagrams of a given size and find unexpected patterns and relationships between them. We focus on the smallest nontrivial multi-propagator case, consisting of 2 propagators on 6 vertices, and compute the positroid cells associated to each diagram and the homology of the subcomplex they generate in $\mathbb{G}_{\mathbb{R}, \geq 0}$. We also verify in this case the conjecture that the spurious singularities of the volume functional {\em do} all cancel on the codimension 1 boundaries of these cells.

The (tree) amplituhedron A(n,k,m) is the image in the Grassmannian Gr(k,k+m) of the totally nonnegative part of Gr(k,n), under a (map induced by a) linear map which is totally positive. It was introduced by Arkani-Hamed and Trnka in 2013 in order to give a geometric basis for the computation of scattering amplitudes in N=4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory. In the case relevant to physics (m=4), there is a collection of recursively-defined 4k-dimensional BCFW cells in the totally nonnegative part of Gr(k,n), whose images conjecturally "triangulate" the amplituhedron--that is, their images are disjoint and cover a dense subset of A(n,k,4). In this paper, we approach this problem by first giving an explicit (as opposed to recursive) description of the BCFW cells. We then develop sign-variational tools which we use to prove that when k=2, the images of these cells are disjoint in A(n,k,4). We also conjecture that for arbitrary even m, there is a decomposition of the amplituhedron A(n,k,m) involving precisely M(k, n-k-m, m/2) top-dimensional cells (of dimension km), where M(a,b,c) is the number of plane partitions contained in an a x b x c box. This agrees with the fact that when m=4, the number of BCFW cells is the Narayana number N(n-3, k+1).
An Introduction to Supersymmetric Cluster Algebras

In this paper we propose the notion of cluster superalgebras which is a supersymmetric version of the classical cluster algebras introduced by Fomin and Zelevinsky. We show that the symplectic-orthogonal supergroup $SpO(2|1)$ admits a cluster superalgebra structure and as a consequence of this, we deduce that the supercommutative superalgebra generated by all the entries of a superfrieze is a subalgebra of a cluster superalgebra. We also show that the coordinate superalgebra of the super Grassmannian $G(2|0; 4|1)$ of chiral conformal superspace (that is, $(2|0)$ planes inside the superspace $\mathbb C^{4|1}$) is a quotient of a cluster superalgebra.

When k+m=n, the amplituhedron is isomorphic to the totally nonnegative Grassmannian, and when k=1, the amplituhedron is a cyclic polytope. While the case m=4 is most relevant to physics, the amplituhedron is an interesting mathematical object for any m. In this paper we study it in the case m=1. We start by taking an orthogonal point of view and define a related "B-amplituhedron" B(n,k,m), which we show is isomorphic to A(n,k,m). We use this reformulation to describe the amplituhedron in terms of sign variation. We then give a cell decomposition of the amplituhedron A(n,k,1) using the images of a collection of distinguished cells of the totally nonnegative Grassmannian. We also show that A(n,k,1) can be identified with the complex of bounded faces of a cyclic hyperplane arrangement, and describe how its cells fit together. We deduce that A(n,k,1) is homeomorphic to a ball.
Dimensional reduction for generalized continuum polymers

The Brydges-Imbrie dimensional reduction formula relates the pressure of a $d$-dimensional gas of hard spheres to a model of $(d+2)$-dimensional branched polymers. Brydges and Imbrie's proof was non-constructive and relied on a supersymmetric localization lemma. The main result of this article is a constructive proof of a more general dimensional reduction formula that contains the Brydges--Imbrie formula as a special case. Central to the proof are invariance lemmas, which were first introduced by Kenyon and Winkler for branched polymers. The new dimensional reduction formulas rely on invariance lemmas for central hyperplane arrangements that are due to Mészáros and Postnikov.
Several applications are presented, notably dimensional reduction formulas for (i) non-spherical bodies and (ii) for corrections to the pressure due to symmetry effects.

We study the polyhedral geometry of the hyperplanes orthogonal to the weights of the first and the second fundamental representations of $sl_n$ inside the dual fundamental Weyl chamber. We obtain generating functions that enumerate the flats and the faces of a fixed dimension. In addition, we describe the extreme rays of the incidence geometry and classify simplicial faces.
From the perspective of supersymmetric gauge theories with 8 supercharges in five dimensional spacetime, the poset of flats is isomorphic to the network of mixed Coulomb-Higgs branches. On the other hand, the poset of faces is conjectured to be isomorphic to the network of crepant partial resolutions of an elliptic fibration with gauge algebra $sl_n$ and "matter representation" given by the sum of the first two fundamental representations.
Consistency and Derangements in Brane Tilings

Brane tilings describe Lagrangians (vector multiplets, chiral multiplets, and the superpotential) of four dimensional $\mathcal{N}=1$ supersymmetric gauge theories. These theories, written in terms of a bipartite graph on a torus, correspond to worldvolume theories on $N$ D$3$-branes probing a toric Calabi-Yau threefold singularity. A pair of permutations compactly encapsulates the data necessary to specify a brane tiling. We show that geometric consistency for brane tilings, which ensures that the corresponding quantum field theories are well behaved, imposes constraints on the pair of permutations, restricting certain products constructed from the pair to have no one-cycles. Permutations without one-cycles are known as derangements. We illustrate this formulation of consistency with known brane tilings. Counting formulas for consistent brane tilings with an arbitrary number of chiral bifundamental fields are written down in terms of delta functions over symmetric groups.
Beyond Aztec Castles: Toric Cascades in the $dP_3$ Quiver

Given one of an infinite class of supersymmetric quiver gauge theories, string theorists can associate a corresponding toric variety (which is a Calabi-Yau 3-fold) as well as an associated combinatorial model known as a brane tiling. In combinatorial language, a brane tiling is a bipartite graph on a torus and its perfect matchings are of interest to both combinatorialists and physicists alike. A cluster algebra may also be associated to such quivers and in this paper we study the generators of this algebra, known as cluster variables, for the quiver associated to the cone over the del Pezzo surface $dP_3$. In particular, mutation sequences involving mutations exclusively at vertices with two in-coming arrows and two out-going arrows are referred to as toric cascades in the string theory literature. Such toric cascades give rise to interesting discrete integrable systems on the level of cluster variable dynamics. We provide an explicit algebraic formula for all cluster variables which are reachable by toric cascades as well as a combinatorial interpretation involving perfect matchings of subgraphs of the $dP_3$ brane tiling for these formulas in most cases.

The theory of symmetric functions has been extended to the case where each variable is paired with an anticommuting one. The resulting expressions, dubbed superpolynomials, provide the natural N=1 supersymmetric version of the classical bases of symmetric functions. Here we consider the case where two independent anticommuting variables are attached to each ordinary variable. The N=2 super-version of the monomial, elementary, homogeneous symmetric functions, as well as the power sums, are then constructed systematically (using an exterior-differential formalism for the multiplicative bases), these functions being now indexed by a novel type of superpartitions. Moreover, the scalar product of power sums turns out to have a natural N=2 generalization which preserves the duality between the monomial and homogeneous bases. All these results are then generalized to an arbitrary value of N. Finally, for N=2, the scalar product and the homogenous functions are shown to have a one-parameter deformation, a result that prepares the ground for the yet-to-be-defined N=2 Jack superpolynomials.
The Amplituhedron and the One-loop Grassmannian Measure

All-loop planar scattering amplitudes in maximally supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory can be formulated geometrically in terms of the "amplituhedron". We study the mathematical structures of the one-loop amplituhedron, and present a new formula for its canonical measure, or the one-loop Grassmannian measure formula. Using the recently proposed momentum-twistor diagrams, we show that there is a correspondence between the cells of one-loop amplituhedron, BCFW terms or equivalently on-shell diagrams, and residues of the one-loop Grassmannian formula. In particular, for the first non-trivial case of one-loop NMHV, these structures are naturally associated with a nice geometric picture as polygons in projective space, as we discuss in various illustrative examples.
Duality between Spin networks and the 2D Ising model

The goal of this paper is to exhibit a deep relation between the partition function of the Ising model on a planar trivalent graph and the generating series of the spin network evaluations on the same graph. We provide respectively a fermionic and a bosonic Gaussian integral formulation for each of these functions and we show that they are the inverse of each other (up to some explicit constants) by exhibiting a supersymmetry relating the two formulations. We investigate three aspects and applications of this duality. First, we propose higher order supersymmetric theories which couple the geometry of the spin networks to the Ising model and for which supersymmetric localization still holds. Secondly, after interpreting the generating function of spin network evaluations as the projection of a coherent state of loop quantum gravity onto the flat connection state, we find the probability distribution induced by that coherent state on the edge spins and study its stationary phase approximation. It is found that the stationary points correspond to the critical values of the couplings of the 2D Ising model, at least for isoradial graphs. Third, we analyze the mapping of the correlations of the Ising model to spin network observables, and describe the phase transition on those observables on the hexagonal lattice. This opens the door to many new possibilities, especially for the study of the coarse-graining and continuum limit of spin networks in the context of quantum gravity.
Counting Trees in Supersymmetric Quantum Mechanics
We study the supersymmetric ground states of the Kronecker model of quiver quantum mechanics. This is the simplest quiver with two gauge groups and bifundamental matter fields, and appears universally in four-dimensional N=2 systems. The ground state degeneracy may be written as a multi-dimensional contour integral, and the enumeration of poles can be simply phrased as counting bipartite trees. We solve this combinatorics problem, thereby obtaining exact formulas for the degeneracies of an infinite class of models. We also develop an algorithm to compute the angular momentum of the ground states, and present explicit expressions for the refined indices of theories where one rank is small.

We describe the algebra of invariants of the vacuum module associated with the affinization of the Lie superalgebra $\mathfrak{gl}(1|1)$. We give a formula for its Hilbert--Poincaré series in a fermionic (cancellation-free) form which turns out to coincide with the generating function of the plane partitions over the $(1,1)$-hook. Our arguments are based on a super version of the Beilinson--Drinfeld--Raïs--Tauvel theorem which we prove by producing an explicit basis of invariants of the symmetric algebra of polynomial currents associated with $\mathfrak{gl}(1|1)$. We identify the invariants with affine supersymmetric polynomials via a version of the Chevalley theorem.

We introduce a supersymmetric analog of the classical Coxeter frieze patterns. Our approach is based on the relation with linear difference operators. We define supersymmetric analogs of linear difference operators called Hill's operators. The space of these "superfriezes" is an algebraic supervariety, which is isomorphic to the space of supersymmetric second order difference equations, called Hill's equations.
Yangian-invariant spin models and Fibonacci numbers

We study a wide class of finite-dimensional su(m|n)-supersymmetric models closely related to the representations of the Yangian Y(sl(m|n)) labeled by border strips. We quantitatively analyze the degree of degeneracy of these models arising from their Yangian invariance, measured by the average degeneracy of the spectrum. We compute in closed form the minimum average degeneracy of any such model, and show that in the non-supersymmetric case it can be expressed in terms of generalized Fibonacci numbers. Using several properties of these numbers, we show that (except in the simpler su(1|1) case) the minimum average degeneracy grows exponentially with the number of spins. We apply our results to several well-known spin chains of Haldane-Shastry type, quantitatively showing that their degree of degeneracy is much higher than expected for a generic Yangian-invariant spin model. Finally, we show that the set of distinct levels of a Yangian-invariant spin model is described by an effective model of quasi-particles. We study this effective model, discussing its connections to one-dimensional anyons and properties of generalized Fibonacci numbers.
