Sufficient conditions for STS$(3^k)$ of 3-rank $\leq 3^k-r$ to be resolvable
Based on the structure of non-full-$3$-rank $STS(3^k)$ and the orthogonal Latin squares, we mainly give sufficient conditions for $STS(3^k)$ of $3$-rank $\leq 3^k-r$ to be resolvable in the present paper. Under the conditions, the block set of $STS(3^k)$ can be partitioned into $\frac{3^k-1}{2}$ parallel classes, i.e., $\frac{3^k-1}{2}$ $1$-$(v,3,1)$ designs. Finally, we prove that $STS(3^k)$ of 3-rank $\leq 3^k-r$ is resolvable under the sufficient conditions.

A $k$-cycle with a pendant edge attached to each vertex is called a $k$-sun. The existence problem for $k$-sun decompositions of $K_v$, with $k$ odd, has been solved only when $k=3$ or $5$.
By adapting a method used by Hoffmann, Lindner and Rodger to reduce the spectrum problem for odd cycle systems of the complete graph, we show that if there is a $k$-sun system of $K_v$ ($k$ odd) whenever $v$ lies in the range $2k< v < 6k$ and satisfies the obvious necessary conditions, then such a system exists for every admissible $v\geq 6k$.

Let $G$ be a strongly connected and balanced directed graph. The Laplacian matrix of $G$ is then the matrix (not necessarily symmetric) $L:=D-A$, where $A$ is the adjacency matrix of $G$ and $D$ is the diagonal matrix such that the row sums and the column sums of $L$ are equal to zero. Let $L^†=[l^†_{ij}]$ be the Moore-Penrose inverse of $L$. We define the resistance between any two vertices $i$ and $j$ of $G$ by $r_{ij}:=l^†_{ii}+l^†_{jj}-2l^†_{ij}$. In this paper, we derive some interesting properties of the resistance and the corresponding resistance matrix $[r_{ij}]$.

The abelian critical exponent of an infinite word $w$ is defined as the maximum ratio between the exponent and the period of an abelian power occurring in $w$. It was shown by Fici et al. that the set of finite abelian critical exponents of Sturmian words coincides with the Lagrange spectrum. This spectrum contains every large enough positive real number. We construct words whose abelian critical exponents fill the remaining gaps, that is, we prove that for each nonnegative real number $θ$ there exists an infinite word having abelian critical exponent $θ$. We also extend this result to the $k$-abelian setting.
Sum of weighted records in set partitions
The purpose of this paper is to find an explicit formula and asymptotic estimate for the total number of sum of weighted records over set partitions of $[n]$
in terms of Bell numbers. For that we study the generating function for the number of set partitions of $[n]$ according to the statistic sum of weighted records.
Betti numbers of unordered configuration spaces of small graphs
The purpose of this document is to provide data about known Betti numbers of unordered configuration spaces of small graphs in order to guide research and avoid duplicated effort. It contains information for connected multigraphs having at most nine edges which contain no loops, no bivalent vertices, and no internal (i.e., non-leaf) bridges.
The Hard Lefschetz Theorem for PL spheres
We provide a simpler proof of the hard Lefschetz Theorem for face rings of PL spheres: While the algebraic theory remains the same, we replace the geometric constructions by Pachner's Theorem. This simplifies the reasoning for an important special case of the main result of the first author in arxiv:1812.10454, and already implies the McMullen g-conjecture for PL spheres, as well as the Grünbaum-Kalai-Sarkaria conjecture.

The complex orthogonal and symplectic groups both act on the complete flag variety with finitely many orbits. We study two families of polynomials introduced by Wyser and Yong representing the $K$-theory classes of the closures of these orbits. Our polynomials are analogous to the Grothendieck polynomials representing $K$-classes of Schubert varieties, and we show that like Grothendieck polynomials, they are uniquely characterized among all polynomials representing the relevant classes by a certain stability property. We show that the same polynomials represent the equivariant $K$-classes of symmetric and skew-symmetric analogues of Knutson and Miller's matrix Schubert varieties. We derive explicit expressions for these polynomials in special cases, including a Pfaffian formula relying on a more general degeneracy locus formula of Anderson. Finally, we show that taking an appropriate limit of our representatives recovers the $K$-theoretic Schur $Q$-functions of Ikeda and Naruse.

The family of Weisfeiler-Leman equivalences on graphs is a widely studied approximation of graph isomorphism with many different characterizations. We study these, and other approximations of isomorphism defined in terms of refinement operators and Schurian Polynomial Approximation Schemes (SPAS). The general framework of SPAS allows us to study a number of parameters of the refinement operators based on Weisfeiler-Leman refinement, logic with counting, lifts of Weisfeiler-Leman as defined by Evdokimov and Ponomarenko, and the invertible map test introduced by Dawar and Holm, and variations of these, and establish relationships between them.
The general position problem and strong resolving graph
The general position number ${\rm gp}(G)$ of a connected graph $G$ is the cardinality of a largest set $S$ of vertices such that no three pairwise distinct vertices from $S$ lie on a common geodesic. It is proved that ${\rm gp}(G)\ge ω(G_{\rm SR}$, where $G_{\rm SR}$ is the strong resolving graph of $G$, and $ω(G_{\rm SR})$ is its clique number. That the bound is sharp is demonstrated with numerous constructions including for instance direct products of complete graphs and different families of strong products, of generalized lexicographic products, and of rooted product graphs. For the strong product it is proved that $gp(G\boxtimes H) \ge gp(G)gp(H)$, and asked whether the equality holds for arbitrary connected graphs $G$ and $H$. It is proved that the answer is in particular positive for strong products with a complete factor, for strong products of complete bipartite graphs, and for certain strong cylinders.

A convex body is unconditional if it is symmetric with respect to reflections in all coordinate hyperplanes. In this paper, we investigate unconditional lattice polytopes with respect to geometric, combinatorial, and algebraic properties. In particular, we characterize unconditional reflexive polytopes in terms of perfect graphs. As a prime example, we study the signed Birkhoff polytope. Moreover, we derive constructions for Gale-dual pairs of polytopes and we explicitly describe Gröbner bases for unconditional reflexive polytopes coming from partially ordered sets
Probabilistic Existence Results for Parent-Identifying Schemes
Parent-identifying schemes provide a way to identify causes from effects for some information systems such as digital fingerprinting and group testing. In this paper, we consider combinatorial structures for parent-identifying schemes. First, we establish an equivalent relationship between parent-identifying schemes and forbidden configurations. Based on this relationship, we derive probabilistic existence lower bounds for two related combinatorial structures, that is, $t$-parent-identifying set systems ($t$-IPPS) and $t$-multimedia parent-identifying codes ($t$-MIPPC), which are used in broadcast encryption and multimedia fingerprinting respectively. The probabilistic lower bound for the maximum size of a $t$-IPPS has the asymptotically optimal order of magnitude in many cases, and that for $t$-MIPPC provides the asymptotically optimal code rate when $t=2$ and the best known asymptotic code rate when $t\geq 3$. Furthermore, we analyze the structure of $2$-IPPS and prove some bounds for certain cases.
Ramsey, Paper, Scissors
We introduce a graph Ramsey game called Ramsey, Paper, Scissors. This game has two players, Proposer and Decider. Starting from an empty graph on $n$ vertices, on each turn Proposer proposes a potential edge and Decider simultaneously decides (without knowing Proposer's choice) whether to add it to the graph. Proposer cannot propose an edge which would create a triangle in the graph. The game ends when Proposer has no legal moves remaining, and Proposer wins if the final graph has independence number at least $s$. We prove a threshold phenomenon exists for this game by exhibiting randomized strategies for both players that are optimal up to constants. Namely, there exist constants $0<A<B$ such that (under optimal play) Proposer wins with high probability if $s<A\sqrt{n}\log{n}$, while Decider wins with high probability if $s>B\sqrt{n}\log{n}$. This is a factor of $Θ(\sqrt{\log{n}})$ larger than the lower bound coming from the off-diagonal Ramsey number $r(3,s)$.
A combinatorial model for the decomposition of multivariate polynomial rings as $S_n$-modules
We consider the symmetric group $S_n$-module of the polynomial ring with $m$ sets of $n$ commuting variables and $m'$ sets of $n$ anti-commuting variables and show that the multiplicity of an irreducible indexed by the partition $λ$ (a partition of $n$) is the number of multiset tableaux of shape $λ$ satisfying certain column and row strict conditions. We also present a finite generating set for the ring of $S_n$ invariant polynomials of this ring.
Circularly compatible ones, $D$-circularity, and proper circular-arc bigraphs
In 1969, Alan Tucker characterized proper circular-arc graphs as those graphs whose augmented adjacency matrices have the circularly compatible ones property. Moreover, he also found a polynomial-time algorithm for deciding whether any given augmented adjacency matrix has the circularly compatible ones property. These results allowed him to devise the first polynomial-time recognition algorithm for proper circular-arc graphs. However, as Tucker himself remarks, he did not solve the problems of finding a structure theorem and an efficient recognition algorithm for the circularly compatible ones property in arbitrary matrices (i.e., not restricted to augmented adjacency matrices only). In this work, we solve these problems. More precisely, we give a minimal forbidden submatrix characterization for the circularly compatible ones property in arbitrary matrices and a linear-time recognition algorithm for the same property. We derive these results from analogous ones for the related $D$-circular property. Interestingly, these results lead to a minimal forbidden induced subgraph characterization and a linear-time recognition algorithm for proper circular-arc bigraphs, solving a problem first posed by Basu, Das, Ghosh, and Sen [J. Graph Theory, 73(4):361--376, 2013]. Our findings generalize some known results about $D$-interval hypergraphs and proper interval bigraphs.
Partition function of the cyclic group
This paper addresses the problem of finding $Q_{m,t}\left(n\right)$, the number of possible ways to partition any member $n$ of the cyclic group $\mathbb{Z}/m\mathbb{Z}$ into $t$ distinct parts. When $m$ is odd, it was previously known that the number of partitions of the identity element $0\bmod m$ with distinct parts is equal to the number of possible bi-color necklaces with $m$ beads. This paper will expand upon this result by showing the equivalence between $Q_{m,t}\left(n\right)$ and the number of bi-color necklaces meeting certain periodicity requirements, even when $m$ is even.
A formula on Stirling numbers of the second kind and its application to the unstable $K$-theory of stunted complex projective spaces
A formula on Stirling numbers of the second kind $S(n, k)$ is proved. As a corollary, for odd $n$ and even $k$, it is shown that $k!S(n, k)$ is a positive multiple of the greatest common divisor of $j!S(n, j)$ for $k+1\leq j\leq n$. Also, as an application to algebraic topology, some isomorphisms of unstable $K^1$-groups of stunted complex projective spaces are deduced.
Logarithmic concavity for morphisms of matroids
Morphisms of matroids are combinatorial abstractions of linear maps and graph homomorphisms. We introduce the notion of basis for morphisms of matroids, and show that its generating function is strongly log-concave. As a consequence, we obtain a generalization of Mason's conjecture on the $f$-vectors of independent subsets of matroids to arbitrary morphisms of matroids. To establish this, we define multivariate Tutte polynomials of morphisms of matroids, and show that they are Lorentzian in the sense of [BH19] for sufficiently small positive parameters.
Sets in $\mathbb{R}^d$ with slow-decaying density that avoid an unbounded collection of distances
For any $d\in \mathbb{N}$ and any function $f:(0,\infty)\to [0,1]$ with $f(R)\to 0$ as $R\to \infty$, we construct a set $A \subseteq \mathbb{R}^d$ and a sequence $R_n \to \infty$ such that $\|x-y\| \neq R_n$ for all $x,y\in A$ and $μ(A\cap B_{R_n})\geq f(R_n)μ(B_{R_n})$ for all $n\in \mathbb{N}$, where $B_R$ is the ball of radius $R$ centered at the origin and $μ$ is Lebesgue measure. This construction exhibits a form of sharpness for a result established independently by Furstenberg-Katznelson-Weiss, Bourgain, and Falconer-Marstrand, and it generalizes to any metric induced by a norm on $\mathbb{R}^d$.
Lower Bounds for Small Ramsey Numbers on Hypergraphs
The Ramsey number $r_k(p, q)$ is the smallest integer $N$ that satisfies for every red-blue coloring on $k$-subsets of $[N]$, there exist $p$ integers such that any $k$-subset of them is red, or $q$ integers such that any $k$-subset of them is blue. In this paper, we study the lower bounds for small Ramsey numbers on hypergraphs by constructing counter-examples and recurrence relations. We present a new algorithm to prove lower bounds for $r_k(k+1, k+1)$. In particular, our algorithm is able to prove $r_5(6,6) \ge 72$, where there is only trivial lower bound on $5$-hypergraphs before this work. We also provide several recurrence relations to calculate lower bounds based on lower bound values on smaller $p$ and $q$. Combining both of them, we achieve new lower bounds for $r_k(p, q)$ on arbitrary $p$, $q$, and $k \ge 4$.
