Equivariant oriented homology of the affine Grassmannian
We generalize the property of small-torus equivariant K-homology of the affine Grassmannian to general oriented (co)homology theory in the sense of Levine and Morel. The main tool we use is the formal affine Demazure algebra associated to the affine root system. More precisely, we prove that the small-torus equivariant oriented cohomology of the affine Grassmannian satisfies the GKM condition. We also show that its dual, the small-torus equivariant homology, is isomorphic to the centralizer of the equivariant oriented cohomology of a point in the the formal affine Demazure algebra.

The linear spaces that are fixed by a given nilpotent $n \times n$ matrix form a subvariety of the Grassmannian. We classify these varieties for small $n$. Mutiah, Weekes and Yacobi conjectured that their radical ideals are generated by certain linear forms known as shuffle equations. We prove this conjecture for $n \leq 7$, and we disprove it for $n=8$. The question remains open for nilpotent matrices arising from the affine Grassmannian.

Recently, Blasiak-Morse-Seelinger introduced symmetric functions called Katalan functions, and proved that the $K$-theoretic $k$-Schur functions due to Lam-Schilling-Shimozono form a subfamily of the Katalan functions. They conjectured that another subfamily of Katalan functions called the closed $k$-Schur Katalan functions are identified with the Schubert structure sheaves in the $K$-homology of the affine Grassmannian. The main result is a proof of the conjecture.
We also study a $K$-theoretic Peterson isomorphism that Ikeda, Iwao, and Maeno constructed, in a non-geometric manner, based on the unipotent solution of the relativistic Toda lattice of Ruijsenaars. We prove that the map sends a Schubert class of the quantum $K$-theory ring of the flag variety to a closed $K$-$k$-Schur Katalan function up to an explicit factor related to a translation element with respect to an anti-dominant coroot. In fact, we prove the above map coincides with a map whose existence was conjectured by Lam, Li, Mihalcea, Shimozono, and proved by Kato, and more recently by Chow and Leung.

This survey is about combinatorial objects related to reflection groups and their applications in representation theory and arithmetic geometry. Coxeter groups and folded galleries in Coxeter complexes are introduced in detail and illustrated by examples. Further it is explained how they relate to retractions in Bruhat-Tits buildings and to the geometry of affine flag varieties and affine Grassmannians. The goal is to make these topics accessible to a wide audience.
The Möbius function on Affine Grassmannian elements
To any saturated chain in the affine Weyl group whose translation parts are sufficiently regular, we associate a near path and a far path in the quantum Bruhat graph. Using this, working in the Bruhat order on the minimal-length representatives of the cosets in the affine Weyl group with respect to the finite Weyl group, we characterize the pairs of elements for which the Möbius function is nonzero. This is applied to obtain explicit expansions in the $K$-theory of affine Grassmannians, of the basis of ideal sheaves into the basis of structure sheaves of Schubert varieties.

We give a new construction of Lascoux-Schützenberger's charge statistic in type A which is motivated by the geometric Satake equivalence We obtain a new formula for the charge statistic in terms of modified crystal operators and an independent proof of this formula not relying on tableaux combinatorics.

We prove that the $K$-$k$-Schur functions are part of a family of inhomogenous symmetric functions whose top homogeneous components are Catalan functions, the Euler characteristics of certain vector bundles on the flag variety. Lam-Schilling-Shimozono identified the $K$-$k$-Schur functions as Schubert representatives for $K$-homology of the affine Grassmannian for SL$_{k+1}$. Our perspective reveals that the $K$-$k$-Schur functions satisfy a shift invariance property, and we deduce positivity of their branching coefficients from a positivity result of Baldwin and Kumar. We further show that a slight adjustment of our formulation for $K$-$k$-Schur functions produces a second shift-invariant basis which conjecturally has both positive branching and a rectangle factorization property. Building on work of Ikeda-Iwao-Maeno, we conjecture that this second basis gives the images of the Lenart-Maeno quantum Grothendieck polynomials under a $K$-theoretic analog of the Peterson isomorphism.

The Peterson comparison formula proved by Woodward relates the three-pointed Gromov-Witten invariants for the quantum cohomology of partial flag varieties to those for the complete flag. Another such comparison can be obtained by composing a combinatorial version of the Peterson isomorphism with a result of Lapointe and Morse relating quantum Littlewood-Richardson coefficients for the Grassmannian to k-Schur analogs in the homology of the affine Grassmannian obtained by adding rim hooks. We show that these comparisons on quantum cohomology are equivalent, up to Postnikov's strange duality isomorphism.

Let $\overline{\mathtt{X}}_λ$ be the closure of the $\mathtt{I}$-orbit $\mathtt{X}_λ$ in the affine Grassmanian $\mathtt{Gr}$ of a simple algebraic group $G$ of adjoint type, where $\mathtt{I}$ is the Iwahori group and $λ$ is a coweight of $G$. We find a simple algorithm which describes the set $Ψ(λ)$ of all $\mathtt{I}$-orbits in $\overline{\mathtt{X}}_λ$ in terms of coweights. We introduce $R$-operators (associated to positive roots) on the coweight lattice of $G$, which exactly describe the closure relation of $\mathtt{I}$-orbits. These operators satisfy Braid relations generically on the coweight lattice. We also establish a duality between the set $Ψ(λ)$ and the weight system of the level one affine Demazure module $\hat{\mathscr{D}}_λ$ of $^L\tilde{\mathfrak{g}}$ indexed by $λ$, where $^L\tilde{\mathfrak{g}}$ is the affine Kac-Moody algebra dual to the affine Kac-Moody Lie algebra $\tilde{\mathfrak{g}}$ associated to the Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ of $G$.

The cohomology of the affine flag variety of a complex reductive group is a comodule over the cohomology of the affine Grassmannian. We give positive formulae for the coproduct of an affine Schubert class in terms of affine Stanley classes and finite Schubert classes, in (torus-equivariant) cohomology and K-theory. As an application, we deduce monomial positivity for the affine Schubert polynomials of the second author.
Hives Determined by Pairs in the Affine Grassmannian over Discrete Valuation Rings
Let ${\mathcal O}$ be a discrete valuation ring with quotient field ${\cal K}$. The affine Grassmannian ${\cal G}r$ is the set of full-rank ${\mathcal O}$-modules contained in ${\cal K}^n$. Given $Λ\in {\cal G}r$, invariant factors $inv(Λ)=λ\in {\mathbb Z}^n$ stratify ${\cal G}r$. Left-multiplication by $GL_{n}({\cal K})$ stratifies ${\cal G}r \times {\cal G}r$ where $inv(N,Λ) = μ$ if $(N,Λ)$ and $(I_{n} ,M)$ are in the same $GL_{n}({\cal K})$ orbit, and $inv(M) = μ$. We present an elementary map from ${\cal G}r \times {\cal G}r$ to hives (in the sense of Knutson and Tao) of type $(μ,ν,λ)$ where $inv(N,Λ) = μ$, $inv(N) = ν$, and $inv(Λ) = λ$. Earlier work by the authors determined Littlewood-Richardson fillings from matrix pairs over certain rings ${\mathcal O}$, and later Kamnitzer utilized properties of MV polytopes to define a map from ${\cal G}r\times {\cal G}r$ to hives over ${\mathcal O} = {\mathbb C}[[t]]$. Our proof uses only linear algebra methods over any discrete valuation ring, where hive entries are minima of sums of orders of invariant factors over certain submodules. Our map is analogous to a conjectured construction of hives from Hermitian matrix pairs due to Danilov and Koshevoy.

We use k-Schur functions to get the minimal boundary of the k-bounded partition poset. This permits to describe the central random walks on affine Grassmannian elements of type A and yields a polynomial expression for their drift. We also recover Rietsch's parametriza-tion of totally nonnegative unitriangular Toeplitz matrices without using quantum cohomology of flag varieties. All the homeomorphisms we define can moreover be made explicit by using the combinatorics of k-Schur functions and elementary computations based on Perron-Frobenius theorem.

The Peterson isomorphism relates the homology of the affine Grassmannian to the quantum cohomology of any flag variety. In the case of a partial flag, Peterson's map is only a surjection, and one needs to quotient by a suitable ideal on the affine side to map isomorphically onto the quantum cohomology. We provide a detailed exposition of this parabolic Peterson isomorphism in the case of the Grassmannian of m-planes in complex n-space, including an explicit recipe for doing quantum Schubert calculus in terms of the appropriate subset of non-commutative k-Schur functions. As an application, we recast Postnikov's affine approach to the quantum cohomology of the Grassmannian as a consequence of parabolic Peterson by showing that the affine nilTemperley-Lieb algebra arises naturally when forming the requisite quotient of the homology of the affine Grassmannian.
Growth Diagrams and Minuscule Polygon Configurations in the Affine Grassmannian
We define affine growth diagrams consisting of $GL_m$ dominant weights that label the vertices of a staircase-shaped grid. These are also called cylindrical growth diagrams as defined by Speyer and White in the case of partitions. The weights labelling each adjacent pair of vertices differ by a vertical strip and the weights around each unit square satisfy a local condition that appeared in van Leeuwen's work on the Littelmann path model for crystals.
We prove two main results. For a sequence of minuscule weights $\vecλ=(λ^1,\ldots,λ^n)$ let Poly$(\vecλ)$ denote the configuration space of $n$-tuples of points $(g_1,\ldots,g_n)$ in the affine Grassmannian such that the weight-valued distances satisfy $d(g_i,g_{i+1})=λ^i$. This is the convolution variety arising in the geometric Satake correspondence. We show that for a generic point $(g_1,\ldots,g_n)$ of a component the distances $d(g_i,g_j)$ form an affine growth diagram and that this gives a bijection between components of Poly$(\vecλ)$ and affine growth diagrams of type $\vecλ$. The main tool used in the proof is the Knutson--Tao hive.
In the second part, we give a purely combinatorial construction of affine growth diagrams from natural number entries by applying Greene's theorem to certain subrectangles of the staircase. From this construction it follows that affine growth diagrams contain the classical Fomin growth diagrams and realize the RS-correspondence when $\vecλ=(ω_1,\ldots,ω_1,ω_1^*,\ldots,ω_1^*)$.

We state a precise conjectural isomorphism between localizations of the equivariant quantum K-theory ring of a flag variety and the equivariant K-homology ring of the affine Grassmannian, in particular relating their Schubert bases and structure constants. This generalizes Peterson's isomorphism in (co)homology. We prove a formula for the Pontryagin structure constants in the K-homology ring, and we use it to check our conjecture in few situations.
An explicit determination of the $K$-theoretic structure constants of the affine Grassmannian associated to $SL_2$
Let $G:=\widehat{SL_2}$ denote the affine Kac-Moody group associated to $SL_2$ and $\bar{\mathcal{X}}$ the associated affine Grassmannian. We determine an inductive formula for the Schubert basis structure constants in the torus-equivariant Grothendieck group of $\bar{\mathcal{X}}$. In the case of ordinary (non-equivariant) $K$-theory we find an explicit closed form for the structure constants. We also determine an inductive formula for the structure constants in the torus-equivariant cohomology ring, and use this formula to find closed forms for some of the structure constants.

The $K$-homology ring of the affine Grassmannian of $SL_n(C)$ was studied by Lam, Schilling, and Shimozono. It is realized as a certain concrete Hopf subring of the ring of symmetric functions. On the other hand, for the quantum $K$-theory of the flag variety $Fl_n$, Kirillov and Maeno provided a conjectural presentation based on the results obtained by Givental and Lee. We construct an explicit birational morphism between the spectrums of these two rings. Our method relies on Ruijsenaars's relativistic Toda lattice with unipotent initial condition. From this result, we obtain a $K$-theory analogue of the so-called Peterson isomorphism for (co)homology. We provide a conjecture on the detailed relationship between the Schubert bases, and, in particular, we determine the image of Lenart--Maeno's quantum Grothendieck polynomial associated with a Grassmannian permutation.
Maximal Newton points and the quantum Bruhat graph
We discuss a surprising relationship between the partially ordered set of Newton points associated to an affine Schubert cell and the quantum cohomology of the complex flag variety. The main theorem provides a combinatorial formula for the unique maximum element in this poset in terms of paths in the quantum Bruhat graph, whose vertices are indexed by elements in the finite Weyl group. Key to establishing this connection is the fact that paths in the quantum Bruhat graph encode saturated chains in the strong Bruhat order on the affine Weyl group. This correspondence is also fundamental in the work of Lam and Shimozono establishing Peterson's isomorphism between the quantum cohomology of the finite flag variety and the homology of the affine Grassmannian. One important geometric application of the present work is an inequality which provides a necessary condition for non-emptiness of certain affine Deligne-Lusztig varieties in the affine flag variety.

We give a new description of the Pieri rule for k-Schur functions using the Bruhat order on the affine type-A Weyl group. In doing so, we prove a new combinatorial formula for representatives of the Schubert classes for the cohomology of affine Grassmannians. We show how new combinatorics involved in our formulas gives the Kostka-Foulkes polynomials and discuss how this can be applied to study the transition matrices between Hall-Littlewood and k-Schur functions.

We introduce two families of symmetric functions with an extra parameter t that specialize to Schubert representatives for cohomology and homology of the affine Grassmannian when t = 1. The families are defined by a statistic on combinatorial objects associated to the type-A affine Weyl group and their transition matrix with Hall-Littlewood polynomials is t-positive. We conjecture that one family is the set of k-atoms.
