On the sign representations for the complex reflection groups $G(r,p,n)$
Published in Beitrage zur Algebra und Geometrie, 57, Issue 4 (2016): 851--858 • View PublicationBIB
We present a formula for the values of the sign representations of the complex reflection groups $G(r,p,n)$ in terms of its image under a generalized Robinson-Schensted map.

Hamiltonian cycles in Cayley graphs of imprimitive complex reflection groups
Published • View PublicationBIB
Generalizing a result of Conway, Sloane, and Wilkes for real reflection groups, we show the Cayley graph of an imprimitive complex reflection group with respect to standard generating reflections has a Hamiltonian cycle. This is consistent with the long-standing conjecture that for every finite group, G, and every set of generators, S, of G the undirected Cayley graph of G with respect to S has a Hamiltonian cycle.

Combinatorial simpliciality of arrangements of hyperplanes
Published • View PublicationBIB
We introduce a combinatorial characterization of simpliciality for arrangements of hyperplanes. We then give a sharp upper bound for the number of hyperplanes of such an arrangement in the projective plane over a finite field, and present some series of arrangements related to the known arrangements in characteristic zero. We further enumerate simplicial arrangements with given symmetry groups. Finally, we determine all finite complex reflection groups affording combinatorially simplicial arrangements. It turns out that combinatorial simpliciality coincides with inductive freeness for finite complex reflection groups except for the Shephard-Todd group $G_{31}$.

On the regularization process for Ariki-Koike algebras
The aim of this note is to study a generalization of theorems by James and Fayers on the modular representations of the symmetric group and its Hecke algebra to the case of the complex reflection groups of type $G(l,1,n)$ and the associated Ariki-Koike algebra.

Counting factorizations of Coxeter elements into products of reflections
Published in Journal of the London Mathematical Society, 90 (3):919-939 (2014) • View PublicationBIB
In this paper, we count factorizations of Coxeter elements in well-generated complex reflection groups into products of reflections. We obtain a simple product formula for the exponential generating function of such factorizations, which is expressed uniformly in terms of natural parameters of the group. In the case of factorizations of minimal length, we recover a formula due to P. Deligne, J. Tits and D. Zagier in the real case and to D. Bessis in the complex case. For the symmetric group, our formula specializes to a formula of D. M. Jackson.

Isomorphisms, automorphisms, and generalized involution models
Published in Israel J. Math. 199 (2014) 433-483 • View PublicationBIB
We investigate the generalized involution models of the projective reflection groups $G(r,p,q,n)$. This family of groups parametrizes all quotients of the complex reflection groups $G(r,p,n)$ by scalar subgroups. Our classification is ultimately incomplete, but we provide several necessary and sufficient conditions for generalized involution models to exist in various cases. In the process we solve several intermediate problems concerning the structure of projective reflection groups. We derive a simple criterion for determining whether two groups $G(r,p,q,n)$ and $G(r,p',q',n)$ are isomorphic. We also describe explicitly the form of all automorphisms of $G(r,p,q,n)$, outside a finite list of exceptional cases. Building on prior work, this allows us to prove that $G(r,p,1,n)$ has a generalized involution model if and only if $G(r,p,1,n) \cong G(r,1,p,n)$. We also classify which groups $G(r,p,q,n)$ have generalized involution models when $n=2$, or $q$ is odd, or $n$ is odd.

On inductively free reflection arrangements
Published • View PublicationBIB
Suppose that W is a finite, unitary reflection group acting on the complex vector space V. Let A = A(W) be the associated hyperplane arrangement of W. Terao has shown that each such reflection arrangement A is free. There is the stronger notion of an inductively free arrangement. In 1992, Orlik and Terao conjectured that each reflection arrangement is inductively free. It has been known for quite some time that the braid arrangement as well as the Coxeter arrangements of type B and type D are inductively free. Barakat and Cuntz completed this list only recently by showing that every Coxeter arrangement is inductively free. Nevertheless, Orlik and Terao's conjecture is false in general. In a recent paper, we already gave two counterexamples to this conjecture among the exceptional complex reflection groups. In this paper we classify all inductively free reflection arrangements. In addition, we show that the notions of inductive freeness and that of hereditary inductive freeness coincide for reflection arrangements. As a consequence of our classification, we get an easy, purely combinatorial characterization of inductively free reflection arrangements A in terms of exponents of the restrictions to any hyperplane of A.

Eigenspace arrangements of reflection groups

The lattice of intersections of reflecting hyperplanes of a complex reflection group W may be considered as the poset of 1-eigenspaces of the elements of W. In this paper we replace 1 with an arbitrary eigenvalue and study the topology and homology representation of the resulting poset. After posing the main question of whether this poset is shellable, we show that all its upper intervals are geometric lattices, and then answer the question in the affirmative for the infinite family G(m,p,n) of complex reflection groups, and the first 31 of the 34 exceptional groups, by constructing CL-shellings. In addition, we completely determine when these eigenspaces of W form a K(pi,1) (resp. free) arrangement. For the symmetric group, we also extend the combinatorial model available for its intersection lattice to all other eigenvalues by introducing "balanced partition posets", presented as particular upper order ideals of Dowling lattices, study the representation afforded by the top (co)homology group, and give a simple map to the posets of pointed d-divisible partitions.

Comparing Codimension and Absolute Length in Complex Reflection Groups
Published • View PublicationBIB
Reflection length and codimension of fixed point spaces induce partial orders on a complex reflection group. While these partial orders are of independent combinatorial interest, our investigation is motivated by a connection between the codimension order and the algebraic structure of cohomology governing deformations of skew group algebras. In this article, we compare the reflection length and codimension functions and discuss implications for cohomology of skew group algebras. We give algorithms using character theory for computing reflection length, atoms, and poset relations. Using a mixture of theory, explicit examples, and computer calculations in GAP, we show that Coxeter groups and the infinite family G(m,1,n) are the only irreducible complex reflection groups for which the reflection length and codimension orders coincide. We describe the atoms in the codimension order for the infinite family G(m,p,n), which immediately yields an explicit description of generators for cohomology.

EL-Shellability and Noncrossing Partitions Associated with Well-Generated Complex Reflection Groups
Published in European Journal of Combinatorics 43(C) (2015), pages 249-278 • View PublicationBIB
In this article we prove that the lattice of noncrossing partitions is EL-shellable when associated with the well-generated complex reflection group of type $G(d,d,n)$, for $d,n\geq 3$, or with the exceptional well-generated complex reflection groups which are no real reflection groups. This result was previously established for the real reflection groups and it can be extended to the well-generated complex reflection group of type $G(d,1,n)$, for $d,n\geq 3$, as well as to three exceptional groups, namely $G_{25},G_{26}$ and $G_{32}$, using a braid group argument. We thus conclude that the lattice of noncrossing partitions of any well-generated complex reflection group is EL-shellable. Using this result and a construction by Armstrong and Thomas, we conclude further that the poset of $m$-divisible noncrossing partitions is EL-shellable for every well-generated complex reflection group. Finally, we derive results on the Möbius function of these posets previously conjectured by Armstrong, Krattenthaler and Tomie.

Reflection arrangements and ribbon representations

Ehrenborg and Jung recently related the order complex for the lattice of d-divisible partitions with the simplicial complex of pointed ordered set partitions via a homotopy equivalence. The latter has top homology naturally identified as a Specht module. Their work unifies that of Calderbank, Hanlon, Robinson, and Wachs. By focusing on the underlying geometry, we strengthen and extend these results from type A to all real reflection groups and the complex reflection groups known as Shephard groups.

Co-quasi-invariant spaces for finite complex reflection groups
Published • View PublicationBIB
We study, in a global uniform manner, the quotient of the ring of polynomials in l sets of n variables, by the ideal generated by diagonal quasi-invariant polynomials for general permutation groups W=G(r,n). We show that, for each such group W, there is an explicit universal symmetric function that gives the N^l-graded Hilbert series for these spaces. This function is universal in that its dependance on l only involves the number of variables it is calculated with. We also discuss the combinatorial implications of the observed fact that it affords an expansion as a positive coefficient polynomial in the complete homogeneous symmetric functions.

Multivariate Diagonal Coinvariant Spaces for Complex Reflection Groups

For finite complex reflexion groups, we consider the graded $W$-modules of diagonally harmonic polynomials in $r$ sets of variables, and show that associated Hilbert series may be described in a global manner, independent of the value of $r$.

Cell modules and canonical basic sets for Hecke algebras from Cherednik algebras
Published • View PublicationBIB
In this note we are interested in labelling the irreducible representations of non-semisimple specialisations of Hecke algebras of complex reflection groups. We will use category O for the rational Cherednik algebra and the KZ functor together with elementary algebraic and combinatorial arguments to construct "canonical basic sets" in many cases. We will also show that the images of the standard modules through the KZ functor agree with the appropriate cell modules, whenever the Hecke algebra has a cellular structure.

Gelfand models and Robinson-Schensted correspondence
Published • View PublicationBIB
In [F. Caselli, Involutory reflection groups and their models, J. Algebra 24 (2010), 370--393] there is constructed a uniform Gelfand model for all non-exceptional irreducible complex reflection groups which are involutory. Such model can be naturally decomposed into the direct sum of submodules indexed by $S_n$-conjugacy classes, and we present here a general result that relates the irreducible decomposition of these submodules with the projective Robinson-Schensted correspondence. This description also reflects in a very explicit way the existence of split representations for these groups.
Deformed diagonal harmonic polynomials for complex reflection groups

We introduce deformations of the space of (multi-diagonal) harmonic polynomials for any finite complex reflection group of the form W=G(m,p,n), and give supporting evidence that this space seems to always be isomorphic, as a graded W-module, to the undeformed version.

Groupes de réflexion, géométrie du discriminant et partitions non-croisées
Reflection groups, geometry of the discriminant and noncrossing partitions. When W is a well-generated complex reflection group, the noncrossing partition lattice NCP_W of type W is a very rich combinatorial object, extending the notion of noncrossing partitions of an n-gon. This structure appears in several algebraic setups (dual braid monoid, cluster algebras...). Many combinatorial properties of NCP_W are proved case-by-case, using the classification of reflection groups. It is the case for Chapoton's formula, expressing the number of multichains of a given length in the lattice NCP_W, in terms of the invariant degrees of W. This thesis work is motivated by the search for a geometric explanation of this formula, which could lead to a uniform understanding of the connections between the combinatorics of NCP_W and the invariant theory of W. The starting point is to use the Lyashko-Looijenga covering (LL), based on the geometry of the discriminant of W. In the first chapter, some topological constructions of Bessis are refined, allowing to relate the fibers of LL with block factorisations of a Coxeter element. Then we prove a transitivity property for the Hurwitz action of the braid group B_n on certain factorisations. Chapter 2 is devoted to certain finite polynomial extensions, and to properties about their Jacobians and discriminants. In Chapter 3, these results are applied to the extension defined by the covering LL. We deduce --- with a case-free proof --- formulas for the number of submaximal factorisations of a Coxeter element in W, in terms of the homogeneous degrees of the irreducible components of the discriminant and Jacobian for LL.

Vector-Valued Jack Polynomials from Scratch
Published in SIGMA 7 (2011), 026, 48 pages • View PublicationBIB
Vector-valued Jack polynomials associated to the symmetric group ${\mathfrak S}_N$ are polynomials with multiplicities in an irreducible module of ${\mathfrak S}_N$ and which are simultaneous eigenfunctions of the Cherednik-Dunkl operators with some additional properties concerning the leading monomial. These polynomials were introduced by Griffeth in the general setting of the complex reflections groups $G(r,p,N)$ and studied by one of the authors (C. Dunkl) in the specialization $r=p=1$ (i.e. for the symmetric group). By adapting a construction due to Lascoux, we describe an algorithm allowing us to compute explicitly the Jack polynomials following a Yang-Baxter graph. We recover some properties already studied by C. Dunkl and restate them in terms of graphs together with additional new results. In particular, we investigate normalization, symmetrization and antisymmetrization, polynomials with minimal degree, restriction etc. We give also a shifted version of the construction and we discuss vanishing properties of the associated polynomials.

Finite Gelfand Pair Approaches for Ehrenfest Diffusion Model
A classical diffusion model of Ehrenfest which consists of $2$-urns and $n$-balls is realized by a finite Gelfand pair $(H_{n},S_{n})$, where $H_{n}$ is the hyperoctahedral group and $S_{n}$ is the symmetric group. This fact can be generalized to multi-urn version by using Gelfand pairs of complex reflection groups.

Refined Gelfand models for wreath products
Published • View PublicationBIB
In [F. Caselli, Involutory reflection groups and their models, J. Algebra 24 (2010), 370--393] it is constructed a uniform Gelfand model for all non-exceptional irreducible complex reflection groups which are involutory. This model can be naturally decomposed into the direct sum of submodules indexed by symmetric conjugacy classes, and in this paper we present a simple combinatorial description of the irreducible decomposition of these submodules if the group is the wreath product of a cyclic group with a symmetric group. This is attained by showing that such decomposition is compatible with the generalized Robinson-Schensted correspondence for these groups.
