The aim of this paper is to study the representation theory of quantum Schubert cells. Let $\g$ be a simple complex Lie algebra. To each element $w$ of the Weyl group $W$ of $\g$, De Concini, Kac and Procesi have attached a subalgebra $U_q[w]$ of the quantised enveloping algebra $U_q(\g)$. Recently, Yakimov showed that these algebras can be interpreted as the quantum Schubert cells on quantum flag manifolds. In this paper, we study the primitive ideals of $U_q[w]$. More precisely, it follows from the Stratification Theorem of Goodearl and Letzter that the primitive spectrum of $U_q[w]$ admits a stratification indexed by those primes that are invariant under a natural torus action. Moreover each stratum is homeomorphic to the spectrum of maximal ideals of a torus. The main result of this paper gives an explicit formula for the dimension of the stratum associated to a given torus-invariant prime.

Stanley (1986) showed how a finite partially ordered set gives rise to two polytopes, called the order polytope and chain polytope, which have the same Ehrhart polynomial despite being quite different combinatorially. We generalize his result to a wider family of polytopes constructed from a poset P with integers assigned to some of its elements.
Through this construction, we explain combinatorially the relationship between the Gelfand-Tsetlin polytopes (1950) and the Feigin-Fourier-Littelmann polytopes (2010), which arise in the representation theory of the special linear Lie algebra. We then use the generalized Gelfand-Tsetlin polytopes of Berenstein and Zelevinsky (1989) to propose conjectural analogues of the Feigin-Fourier-Littelmann polytopes corresponding to the symplectic and odd orthogonal Lie algebras.

Let $g$ be a simple Lie algebra and $Ab(g)$ the set of Abelian ideals of a Borel subalgebra of $g$. In this note, an interesting connection between $Ab(g)$ and the subsets of the Dynkin diagram of $g$ is discussed. We notice that the number of abelian ideals with $k$ generators equals the number of subsets of the Dynkin diagram with $k$ connected components. For $g$ of type $A_n$ or $C_n$, we provide a combinatorial explanation of this coincidence by constructing a suitable bijection. We also construct another general bijection between $Ab(g)$ and the subsets of the Dynkin diagram, which is based on the theory developed by Peterson and Kostant.

Diagram algebras (e.g. graded braid groups, Hecke algebras, Brauer algebras) arise as tensor power centralizer algebras, algebras of commuting operators for a Lie algebra action on a tensor space. This work explores centralizers of the action of a complex reductive Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ on tensor space of the form $M \otimes N \otimes V^{\otimes k}$. We define the degenerate two-boundary braid algebra $\mathcal{G}_k$ and show that centralizer algebras contain quotients of this algebra in a general setting. As an example, we study in detail the combinatorics of special cases corresponding to Lie algebras $\mathfrak{gl}_n$ and $\mathfrak{sl}_n$ and modules $M$ and $N$ indexed by rectangular partitions. For this setting, we define the degenerate extended two-boundary Hecke algebra $\mathcal{H}_k^{\mathrm{ext}}$ as a quotient of $\mathcal{G}_k$, and show that a quotient of $\mathcal{H}_k^{\mathrm{ext}}$ is isomorphic to a large subalgebra of the centralizer. We further study the representation theory of $\mathcal{H}_k^{\mathrm{ext}}$ to find that the seminormal representations are indexed by a known family of partitions. The bases for the resulting modules are given by paths in a lattice of partitions, and the action of $\mathcal{H}_k^{\mathrm{ext}}$ is given by combinatorial formulas.

We prove a theorem relating torus-equivariant coherent sheaves on toric varieties to polyhedrally-constructible sheaves on a vector space. At the level of K-theory, the theorem recovers Morelli's description of the K-theory of a smooth projective toric variety. Specifically, let $X$ be a proper toric variety of dimension $n$ and let $M_\bR = \mathrm{Lie}(T_\bR^\vee)\cong \bR^n$ be the Lie algebra of the compact dual (real) torus $T_\bR^\vee\cong U(1)^n$. Then there is a corresponding conical Lagrangian $Λ\subset T^*M_\bR$ and an equivalence of triangulated dg categories $\Perf_T(X) \cong \Sh_{cc}(M_\bR;Λ),$ where $\Perf_T(X)$ is the triangulated dg category of perfect complexes of torus-equivariant coherent sheaves on $X$ and $\Sh_{cc}(M_\bR;Λ)$ is the triangulated dg category of complex of sheaves on $M_\bR$ with compactly supported, constructible cohomology whose singular support lies in $Λ$. This equivalence is monoidal---it intertwines the tensor product of coherent sheaves on $X$ with the convolution product of constructible sheaves on $M_\bR$.

We associate a family of cluster X-varieties to the dual Poisson-Lie group G* of a complex semi-simple Lie group G of adjoint type given with the standard Poisson structure. This family is described by the W-permutohedron associated to the Lie algebra g of G: vertices being labeled by cluster X-varieties and edges by new Poisson birational isomorphisms, on appropriate seed X-tori, called saltation. The underlying combinatorics is based on a factorization of the Fomin-Zelevinsky twist maps into mutations and other new Poisson birational isomorphisms on seed X-tori called tropicalmutations, associated to an enrichment of the combinatorics on double words of the Weyl group W of G.

Combinatorial spiders are a model for the invariant space of the tensor product of representations. The basic objects, webs, are certain directed planar graphs with boundary; algebraic operations on representations correspond to graph-theoretic operations on webs. Kuperberg developed spiders for rank 2 Lie algebras and sl_2. Building on a result of Kuperberg's, Khovanov-Kuperberg found a recursive algorithm giving a bijection between standard Young tableaux of shape (n,n,n) and irreducible webs for sl_3 whose boundary vertices are all sources. In this paper, we give a simple and explicit map from standard Young tableaux of shape (n,n,n) to irreducible webs for sl_3 whose boundary vertices are all sources, and show that it is the same as Khovanov-Kuperberg's map. Our construction generalizes to some webs with both sources and sinks on the boundary. Moreover, it allows us to extend the correspondence between webs and tableaux in two ways. First, we provide a short, geometric proof of Petersen-Pylyavskyy-Rhoades's recent result that rotation of webs corresponds to jeu-de-taquin promotion on (n,n,n) tableaux. Second, we define another natural operation on tableaux called a shuffle, and show that it corresponds to the join of two webs. Our main tool is an intermediary object between tableaux and webs that we call an m-diagram. The construction of m-diagrams, like many of our results, applies to shapes of tableaux other than (n,n,n).

The paper is motivated by the study of graded representations of Takiff algebras, cominuscule parabolics, and their generalizations. We study certain special subsets of the set of weights (and of their convex hull) of the generalized Verma modules (or GVM's) of a semisimple Lie algebra $\lie g$. In particular, we extend a result of Vinberg and classify the faces of the convex hull of the weights of a GVM. When the GVM is finite-dimensional, we ask a natural question that arises out of Vinberg's result: when are two faces the same? We also extend the notion of interiors and faces to an arbitrary subfield $\F$ of the real numbers, and introduce the idea of a weak $\F$-face of any subset of Euclidean space. We classify the weak $\F$-faces of all lattice polytopes, as well as of the set of lattice points in them. We show that a weak $\F$-face of the weights of a finite-dimensional $\lie g$-module is precisely the set of weights lying on a face of the convex hull.
Embedding types and canonical affine maps between Bruhat-Tits buildings of classical groups (Thesis)
P. Broussous and S. Stevens studied maps between enlarged Bruhat-Tits buildings to construct types for p-adic unitary groups. They needed maps which respect the Moy-Prasad filtrations. That property is called (CLF), i.e. compatibility with the Lie algebra filtrations. In the first part of this thesis we generalise their results on such maps to the Quaternion-algebra case. Let k0 be a p-adic field of residue characteristic not two. We consider a semisimple k0-rational Lie algebra element beta of a unitary group G:=U(h) defined over k0 with a signed hermitian form h. Let H be the centraliser of beta in G. We prove the existence of an affine H(k0)-equivariant CLF-map j from the enlarged Bruhat-Tits building B^1(H,k0) to B^1(G,k0). As conjectured by Broussous the CLF-property determines j, if none of the factors of H is k0-isomorphic to the isotropic orthogonal group of k0-rank one and all factors are unitary groups. Under the weaker assumption that the affine CLF-map j is only equivariant under the center of H^0(k0) it is uniquely determined up to a translation of B^1(H,k0). The second part is devoted to the decoding of embedding types by the geometry of a CLF-map. Embedding types have been studied by Broussous and M. Grabitz. We consider a division algebra D of finite index with a p-adic center F. The construction of simple types for GLn(D) in the Budhnell-Kutzko framework required an investigation of strata which had to fulfil a rigidity property. Giving a stratum especially means to fix a pair (E,a) consisting of a field extension E|F in Mn(D) and a hereditary order a which is stable under conjugation by E^x, in other words we fix an embedding of E^x into the normalizer of a. Broussous and Grabitz classified these pairs with invariants. We describe and prove a way to decode these invariants using the geometry of a CLF-map.
Lie theory of finite simple groups and the Roth property
In noncommutative geometry a `Lie algebra' or bidirectional bicovariant differential calculus on a finite group is provided by a choice of an ad-stable generating subset C stable under inversion. We study the associated Killing form. For the universal calculus associated to C=G \ {e} we show that the magnitude of the Killing form μ=\sum_{a,b\in C}K^{-1}_{a,b} is defined for all finite groups (even when K is not invertible) and that a finite group is Roth, meaning its conjugation representation contains every irreducible, iff μ is not equal to 1/(N-1), where N is the number of conjugacy classes. We show further that the Killing form is invertible in the Roth case, and that the Killing form restricted to the (N-1)-dimensional subspace of invariant vectors is invertible iff the finite group is almost-Roth group (meaning its conjugation representation has at most one missing irreducible). It is known that most finite simple groups are Roth and that all are almost Roth. At the other extreme from the universal calculus we prove that the generating conjugacy class in the case of the dihedral groups D_{2n} with n odd has invertible Killing form, and the same for the 2-cycles conjugacy class in any S_n. We also compute some eigenvalues of the Killing form in the case of the n-cycles class in S_n. Finally, we verify invertibility of the Killing forms of all real conjugacy classes in all nonabelian finite simple groups to order 75,000, by computer, and we conjecture this to extend to all nonabelian finite simple groups.

We use combinatorial description of bases of Feigin-Stoyanovsky's type subspaces of standard modules of level 1 for affine Lie algebras of types $A_\ell^{(1)}$ and $D_4^{(1)}$ to obtain character formulas. These descriptions naturally lead to systems of recurrence relations for which we also find solutions.

The adjoint representations of the Lie algebras of the classical groups SU(n), SO(n), and Sp(n) are, respectively, tensor, antisymmetric, and symmetric products of two vector spaces, and hence are matrix representations. We consider the analogous products of three vector spaces and study when they appear as summands in Lie algebra decompositions. The Z3-grading of the exceptional Lie algebras provide such summands and provides representations of classical groups on hypermatrices. The main natural application is a formal study of three-junctions of strings and membranes. Generalizations are also considered.

We describe an algebra G of diagrams which faithfully gives a diagrammatic representation of the structures of both the Heisenberg-Weyl algebra H - the associative algebra of the creation and annihilation operators of quantum mechanics - and U(L_H), the enveloping algebra of the Heisenberg Lie algebra L_H. We show explicitly how G may be endowed with the structure of a Hopf algebra, which is also mirrored in the structure of U(L_H). While both H and U(L_H) are images of G, the algebra G has a richer structure and therefore embodies a finer combinatorial realization of the creation-annihilation system, of which it provides a concrete model.

The goal of this paper is to give a geometric construction of the Bethe algebra (of Hamiltonians) of a Gaudin model associated to a simple Lie algebra. More precisely, in this paper a quantum integrable model is assigned to a weighted arrangement of affine hyperplanes. We show (under certain assumptions) that the algebra of Hamiltonians of the model is isomorphic to the algebra of functions on the critical set of the corresponding master function. For a discriminantal arrangement we show (under certain assumptions) that the symmetric part of the algebra of Hamiltonians is isomorphic to the Bethe algebra of the corresponding Gaudin model. It is expected that this correspondence holds in general (without the assumptions). As a byproduct of constructions we show that in a Gaudin model (associated to an arbitrary simple Lie algebra), the Bethe vector, corresponding to an isolated critical point of the master function, is nonzero.

The Lie Algebraic Significance of Symmetric Informationally Complete Measurements

Examples of symmetric informationally complete positive operator valued measures (SIC-POVMs) have been constructed in every dimension less than or equal to 67. However, it remains an open question whether they exist in all finite dimensions. A SIC-POVM is usually thought of as a highly symmetric structure in quantum state space. However, its elements can equally well be regarded as a basis for the Lie algebra gl(d,C). In this paper we examine the resulting structure constants, which are calculated from the traces of the triple products of the SIC-POVM elements and which, it turns out, characterize the SIC-POVM up to unitary equivalence. We show that the structure constants have numerous remarkable properties. In particular we show that the existence of a SIC-POVM in dimension d is equivalent to the existence of a certain structure in the adjoint representation of gl(d,C). We hope that transforming the problem in this way, from a question about quantum state space to a question about Lie algebras, may help to make the existence problem tractable.

We prove a closed character formula for the symmetric powers $S^N V(λ)$ of a fixed irreducible representation $V(λ)$ of a complex semi-simple Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ by means of partial fraction decomposition. The formula involves rational functions in rank of $\mathfrak{g}$ many variables which are easier to determine than the weight multiplicities of $S^N V(λ)$ themselves. We compute those rational functions in some interesting cases. Furthermore, we introduce a residue-type generating function for the weight multiplicities of $S^N V(λ)$ and explain the connections between our character formula, vector partition functions and iterated partial fraction decomposition.

We construct a large class of examples of the cyclic sieving phenomenon by expoiting the representation theory of semi-simple Lie algebras. Let $M$ be a finite dimensional representation of a semi-simple Lie algebra and let $B$ be the associated Kashiwara crystal. For $r\ge 0$, the triple $(X,c,P)$ which exhibits the cyclic sieving phenomenon is constructed as follows: the set $X$ is the set of isolated vertices in the crystal $\otimes^rB$; the map $c\colon X\rightarrow X$ is a generalisation of promotion acting on standard tableaux of rectangular shape and the polynomial $P$ is the fake degree of the Frobenius character of a representation of $\mathfrak{S}_r$ related to the natural action of $\mathfrak{S}_r$ on the subspace of invariant tensors in $\otimes^rM$. Taking $M$ to be the defining representation of $\mathrm{SL}(n)$ gives the cyclic sieving phenomenon for rectangular tableaux.

We address the study of controllability of a closed quantum system whose dynamical Lie algebra is generated by adjacency matrices of graphs. We characterize a large family of graphs that renders a system controllable. The key property is a novel graph-theoretic feature consisting of a particularly disordered cycle structure. Disregarding efficiency of control functions, but choosing subfamilies of sparse graphs, the results translate into continuous-time quantum walks for universal computation.
