We give an interpretation of the boson-fermion correspondence as a direct consequence of Jacobi-Trudi identity. This viewpoint enables us to construct from a generalized version of the Jacobi-Trudi identity the action of Clifford algebra on polynomial algebras that arrives as analogues of the algebra of symmetric functions. A generalized Giambelli identity is also proved to follow from that identity. As applications, we obtain explicit formulas for vertex operators corresponding to characters of the classical Lie algebras, shifted Schur functions, and generalized Schur symmetric functions associated to linear recurrence relations.

The Jacobian Conjecture states that any locally invertible polynomial system in C^n is globally invertible with polynomial inverse. C. W. Bass et al. (1982) proved a reduction theorem stating that the conjecture is true for any degree of the polynomial system if it is true in degree three. This degree reduction is obtained with the price of increasing the dimension n. We prove here a theorem concerning partial elimination of variables, which implies a reduction of the generic case to the quadratic one. The price to pay is the introduction of a supplementary parameter 0<n'< n, parameter which represents the dimension of a linear subspace where some particular conditions on the system must hold. We first give a purely algebraic proof of this reduction result and we then expose a distinct proof, in a Quantum Field Theoretical formulation, using the intermediate field method.

This work enrols the research line of M. Haiman on the Operator Theorem (the old operator conjecture). This theorem states that the smallest $\mathfrak{S}_n$-module closed under taking partial derivatives and closed under the action of polarization operators that contains the Vandermonde determinant is the space of diagonal harmonics polynomials. We start generalizing the context of this theorem to the context of polynomials in $\ell$ sets of $n$ variables $x_{ij}$ with $1\leq i\leq \ell$ et $1\leq j\leq n$. Given a $\frak{S}_n$-stable family of homogeneous polynomials in the variables $x_{ij}$ the smallest vector space closed under taking partial derivatives and closed under the action of polarization operators that contains $F$ is the polarization module generated by the family $F$. These polarization modules are all representation of the direct product $\mathfrak{S}_n\times{GL}_{\ell}(\mathbb{C})$. In order to study the decomposition into irreducible submodules, we compute the graded Frobenius characteristic of these modules. For several cases of $\mathfrak{S}_n$-stable families of homogeneous polynomials in $n$ variables, for every $n\geq 1$, we show general formulas for this graded characteristic in a global manner, independent of the value of $\ell$.
What makes a D_0 graph Schur positive?

We define a D_0 graph to be a graph whose vertex set is a subset of permutations of n, with edges of the form ...bac... <--> ...bca... or ...acb... <--> ...cab... (Knuth transformations), or ...bac... <--> ...acb... or ...bca... <--> ...cab... (rotation transformations), such that whenever the Knuth and rotation transformations at positions i-1, i, i+1 are available at a vertex, exactly one of these is an edge. The generating function of such a graph is the sum of the quasisymmetric functions associated to the descent sets of its vertices. Assaf studied D_0 graphs in the paper *Dual equivalence and Schur positivity* and showed that they provide a rich source of examples of the D graphs defined in the paper *Dual equivalence graphs and a combinatorial proof of LLT and Macdonald positivity*. A key construction of Assaf expresses the coefficient of q^t in an LLT polynomial as the generating function of a certain D_0 graph. LLT polynomials are known to be Schur positive by work of Grojnowski-Haiman, and experimentation shows that many D_0 graphs have Schur positive generating functions, which suggests a vast generalization of LLT positivity in this setting.
As part of a series of papers, we study D_0 graphs using the Fomin-Greene theory of noncommutative Schur functions. We construct a D_0 graph whose generating function is not Schur positive by solving a linear program related to a certain noncommutative Schur function. We go on to construct a D graph on the same vertex set as this D_0 graph.

We prove a positive combinatorial formula for the Schur expansion of LLT polynomials indexed by a 3-tuple of skew shapes. This verifies a conjecture of Haglund. The proof requires expressing a noncommutative Schur function as a positive sum of monomials in Lam's algebra of ribbon Schur operators. Combining this result with the expression of Haglund, Haiman, and Loehr for transformed Macdonald polynomials in terms of LLT polynomials then yields a positive combinatorial rule for transformed Macdonald polynomials indexed by a shape with 3 columns.

We show that the order on probability measures, inherited from the dominance order on the Young diagrams, is preserved under natural maps reducing the number of boxes in a diagram by $1$. As a corollary we give a new proof of the Thoma theorem on the structure of characters of the infinite symmetric group.
We present several conjectures generalizing our result. One of them (if it is true) would imply the Kerov's conjecture on the classification of all homomorphisms from the algebra of symmetric functions into $\mathbb R$ which are non-negative on Hall--Littlewood polynomials.

We provide combinatorial interpretation for the $γ$-coefficients of the basic Eulerian polynomials that enumerate permutations by the excedance statistic and the major index as well as the corresponding $γ$-coefficients for derangements. Our results refine the classical $γ$-positivity results for the Eulerian polynomials and the derangement polynomials. The main tools are Brändén's modified Foata--Strehl action on permutations and the recent triple statistic (des, rix, aid) equidistibuted with (exc, fix, maj).

In this paper we consider the characteristic polynomial of not necessarily ranked posets. We do so by allowing the rank to be an arbitrary function from the poset to the nonnegative integers. We will prove two results showing that the characteristic polynomial of a poset has nonnegative integral roots. Our factorization theorems will then be used to show that any interval of the Tamari lattice has a characteristic polynomial which factors in this way. Blass and Sagan's result about LL lattices will also be shown to be a consequence of our factorization theorems. Finally we will use quotient posets to give unified proofs of some classic Möbius function results.
Narayana polynomials and some generalizations
In this note, by counting some colored plane trees we obtain several binomial identities. These identities can be viewed as specific evaluations of certain generalizations of the Narayana polynomials. As consequences, it provides combinatorial proofs for a bijective problem in Stanley's collection "Bijective Proof Problems", a new formula for the Narayana polynomials as well as a new expression for the Harer-Zagier formula enumerating unicellular maps, in a unified way. Furthermore, we identify a class of plane trees, whose enumeration is closely connected to the Schröder numbers. Many other binomial identities are presented as well.

Let $G$ be a simple graph with vertex set $V(G) = \{v_1, v_2,..., v_n\}$. The Randić matrix of $G$, denoted by $R(G)$, is defined as the $n\times n$ matrix whose $(i,j)$-entry is $(d_id_j)^{\frac{-1}{2}}$ if $v_i$ and $v_j$ are adjacent and $0$ for another cases. Let the eigenvalues of the Randić matrix $R(G)$ be $ρ_1\geq ρ_2\geq ...\geq ρ_n$ which are the roots of the Randić characteristic polynomial $\prod_{i=1}^n (ρ-ρ_i)$. The Randić energy $RE$ of $G$ is the sum of absolute values of the eigenvalues of $R(G)$. In this paper we compute the Randić characteristic polynomial and the Randić energy for specific graphs $G$.

In this paper we resolve the complexity of the isomorphism problem on all but finitely many of the graph classes characterized by two forbidden induced subgraphs. To this end we develop new techniques applicable for the structural and algorithmic analysis of graphs. First, we develop a methodology to show isomorphism completeness of the isomorphism problem on graph classes by providing a general framework unifying various reduction techniques. Second, we generalize the concept of the modular decomposition to colored graphs, allowing for non-standard decompositions. We show that, given a suitable decomposition functor, the graph isomorphism problem reduces to checking isomorphism of colored prime graphs. Third, we extend the techniques of bounded color valence and hypergraph isomorphism on hypergraphs of bounded color size as follows. We say a colored graph has generalized color valence at most k if, after removing all vertices in color classes of size at most k, for each color class C every vertex has at most k neighbors in C or at most k non-neighbors in C. We show that isomorphism of graphs of bounded generalized color valence can be solved in polynomial time.
A real stable extension of the Vamos matroid polynomial
In 2004, Choe, Oxley, Sokal and Wagner established a tight connection between matroids and multiaffine real stable polynomials. Recently, Branden used this theory and a polynomial coming from the Vamos matroid to disprove the generalized Lax conjecture. Here we present a 10-element extension of the Vamos matroid and prove that its basis generating polynomial is real stable (i.e. that the matroid has the half-plane property). We do this via large sums of squares computations and a criterion for real stability given by Wagner and Wei. Like the Vamos matroid, this matroid is not representable over any field and no power of its basis generating polynomial can be written as the determinant of a linear matrix with positive semidefinite Hermitian forms.
Space proof complexity for random $3$-CNFs via a $(2-ε)$-Hall's Theorem
We investigate the space complexity of refuting $3$-CNFs in Resolution and algebraic systems. No lower bound for refuting any family of $3$-CNFs was previously known for the total space in resolution or for the monomial space in algebraic systems. We prove that every Polynomial Calculus with Resolution refutation of a random $3$-CNF $φ$ in $n$ variables requires, with high probability, $Ω(n/\log n)$ distinct monomials to be kept simultaneously in memory. The same construction also proves that every Resolution refutation $φ$ requires, with high probability, $Ω(n/\log n)$ clauses each of width $Ω(n/\log n)$ to be kept at the same time in memory. This gives a $Ω(n^2/\log^2 n)$ lower bound for the total space needed in Resolution to refute $φ$.
The main technical innovation is a variant of Hall's theorem. We show that in bipartite graphs $G$ with bipartition $(L,R)$ and left-degree at most 3, $L$ can be covered by certain families of disjoint paths, called $(2,4)$-matchings, provided that $L$ expands in $R$ by a factor of $(2-ε)$, for $ε< \frac{1}{23}$.
Twists for duplex regions
This note relies heavily on arXiv:1404.6509 and arXiv:1410.7693. Both articles discuss domino tilings of three-dimensional regions, and both are concerned with flips, the local move performed by removing two parallel dominoes and placing them back in the only other possible position. In the second article, an integer $\operatorname{Tw}(t)$ is defined for any tiling $t$ of a large class of regions $\mathcal{R}$: it turns out that $\operatorname{Tw}(t)$ is invariant by flips. In the first article, a more complicated polynomial invariant $P_t(q)$ is introduced for tilings of two-story regions. It turns out that $\operatorname{Tw}(t) = P_t'(1)$ whenever $t$ is a tiling of a duplex region, a special kind of two-story region for which both invariants are defined. This identity is proved in arXiv:1410.7693 in an indirect and nonconstructive manner. In the present note, we provide an alternative, more direct proof.

The modified Bernoulli numbers $B_{n}^{*}$ considered by Zagier are generalized to modified Nörlund polynomials ${B_{n}^{(\ell)*}}$. For $\ell\in\mathbb{N}$, an explicit expression for the generating function for these polynomials is obtained. Evaluations of some spectacular integrals involving Chebyshev polynomials, and of a finite sum involving integrals of the Hurwitz zeta function are also obtained. New results about the $\ell$-fold convolution of the square hyperbolic secant distribution are obtained, such as a differential-difference equation satisfied by a logarithmic moment and a closed-form expression in terms of the Barnes zeta function.
Combinatoire du polynôme de Tutte et des cartes planaires
This thesis deals with the Tutte polynomial, studied from different points of view. In the first part, we address the enumeration of planar maps equipped with a spanning forest, here called forested maps, with a weight $z$ per face and a weight $u$ per non-root component of the forest. Equivalently, we count (with respect to the number of faces) the planar maps $C$ weighted by $T_C(u+1,1)$, where $T_C$ is the Tutte polynomial of $C$. We begin by a purely combinatorial characterization of the corresponding generating function, denoted by $F(z,u)$. We deduce from this that $F(z,u)$ is differentially algebraic in $z$, that is, satisfies a polynomial differential equation in $z$. Finally, for $u \geq -1$, we study the asymptotic behaviour of the $n$th coefficient of $F (z,u)$. We observe a phase transition at $0$, with a very unusual regime in $n^{-3}\ln^{-2} (n)$ for $u \in [-1,0[$, which testifies a new universality class for planar maps. In the second part, we propose a framework unifying the notions of activity used in the literature to describe the Tutte polynomial. The new notion of activity thereby defined is called $Δ$-activity. It gathers all the notions of activities that were already known and has nice properties, as Crapo's property that defines a partition of the lattice of the spanning subgraphs into intervals with respect to the activity. Lastly we conjecture that every activity that describes the Tutte polynomial and that satisfies Crapo's property can be defined in terms of $Δ$-activity.
Enumeration of copermanental graphs
Let $G$ be a graph and $A$ the adjacency matrix of $G$. The permanental polynomial of $G$ is defined as $\mathrm{per}(xI-A)$. In this paper some of the results from a numerical study of the permanental polynomials of graphs are presented. We determine the permanental polynomials for all graphs on at most 11 vertices, and count the numbers for which there is at least one other graph with the same permanental polynomial. The data give some indication that the fraction of graphs with a copermanental mate tends to zero as the number of vertices tends to infinity, and show that the permanental polynomial does be better than characteristic polynomial when we use them to characterize graphs.
Three Ehrhart Quasi-polynomials

Let $P(b)\subset R^d$ be a semi-rational parametric polytope, where $b=(b_j)\in R^N$ is a real multi-parameter. We study intermediate sums of polynomial functions $h(x)$ on $P(b)$, $$
S^L (P(b),h)=\sum_{y}\int_{P(b)\cap (y+L)} h(x) \mathrm dx, $$ where we integrate over the intersections of $P(b)$ with the subspaces parallel to a fixed rational subspace $L$ through all lattice points, and sum the integrals. The purely discrete sum is of course a particular case ($L=0$), so $S^0(P(b), 1)$ counts the integer points in the parametric polytopes.
The chambers are the open conical subsets of $R^N$ such that the shape of $P(b)$ does not change when $b$ runs over a chamber. We first prove that on every chamber of $R^N$, $S^L (P(b),h)$ is given by a quasi-polynomial function of $b\in R^N$. A key point of our paper is an analysis of the interplay between two notions of degree on quasi-polynomials: the usual polynomial degree and a filtration, called the local degree.
Then, for a fixed $k\leq d$, we consider a particular linear combination of such intermediate weighted sums, which was introduced by Barvinok in order to compute efficiently the $k+1$ highest coefficients of the Ehrhart quasi-polynomial which gives the number of points of a dilated rational polytope. Thus, for each chamber, we obtain a quasi-polynomial function of $b$, which we call Barvinok's patched quasi-polynomial (at codimension level $k$).
Finally, for each chamber, we introduce a new quasi-polynomial function of $b$, the cone-by-cone patched quasi-polynomial (at codimension level $k$), defined in a refined way by linear combinations of intermediate generating functions for the cones at vertices of $P(b)$.
We prove that both patched quasi-polynomials agree with the discrete weighted sum $b\mapsto S^0(P(b),h)$ in the terms corresponding to the $k+1$ highest polynomial degrees.
