Set-valued tableaux for Macdonald polynomials
Set-valued tableaux formulas play an important role in Schubert calculus. Using the box greedy reduced word for the construction of the Macdonald polynomials, we convert the alcove walk formula for Macdonald polynomials to a set-valued tableaux formula for Macdonald polynomials. Our hope is that providing set-valued tableaux formulas for Macdonald polynomials will help to strengthen the analogies and possible connections between the calculus of Macdonald polynomials and Schubert calculus.

The $K$-$k$-Schur functions and $k$-Schur functions appeared in the study of $K$-theoretic and affine Schubert Calculus as polynomial representatives of Schubert classes. In this paper, we introduce a new family of symmetric functions $\mathcal{F}_λ^{(k)}$, that generalizes the constructions via the Pieri rule of $K$-$k$-Schur functions and $ k$-Schur functions. Then we obtain the Murnaghan-Nakayama rule for the generalized functions. The rule is described explicitly in the cases of $K$-$k$-Schur functions and $k$-Schur functions, with concrete descriptions and algorithms for coefficients. Our work recovers the result of Bandlow, Schilling, and Zabrocki for $k$-Schur functions, and explains it as a degeneration of the rule for $K$-$k$-Schur functions. In particular, many other special cases and connections promise to be detailed in the future.
Bumpless pipe dream RSK, growth diagrams, and Schubert structure constants
We introduce analogs of left and right RSK insertion for Schubert calculus of complete flag varieties. The objects being inserted are certain biwords, the insertion objects are bumpless pipe dreams, and the recording objects are decorated chains in Bruhat order. As an application, we adopt Lenart's growth diagrams of permutations to give a combinatorial rule for Schubert structure constants in the separated descent case.
Quasisymmetric Schubert calculus
The ring of symmetric functions occupies a central place in algebraic combinatorics, with a particularly notable role in Schubert calculus, where the standard cell decompositions of Grassmannians yield the celebrated family of Schur functions and the cohomology ring is governed by Littlewood-Richardson rules. The past 50 years have seen an analogous development of quasisymmetric function theory, with applications to enumerative combinatorics, Hopf algebras, graph theory, representation theory, and other areas. Despite such successes, this theory has lacked a quasisymmetric analogue of Schubert calculus. In particular, there has been much interest, since work of Lam and Pylyavskyy (2007), in developing "$K$-theoretic" analogues of quasisymmetric function theory, for which a major obstacle has been the lack of topological interpretations.
Here, building on work of Baker and Richter (2008), we apply the philosophy of Schubert calculus to the loop space $Ω(Σ(\mathbb{C}\mathbb{P}^\infty))$ through the homotopy model given by James reduced product $J(\mathbb{C}\mathbb{P}^\infty)$. We describe a canonical Schubert cell decomposition of $J(\mathbb{C}\mathbb{P}^\infty)$, yielding a canonical basis of its cohomology, which we explicitly identify with monomial quasisymmetric functions. Our constructions apply equally to James reduced products of generalized flag varieties $G/P$, and we show how Littlewood-Richardson rules for any $G/P$ lift to $H^*(J(G/P))$.
If $J(\mathbb{C}\mathbb{P}^\infty)$ carried the structure of a normal projective algebraic variety, the structure sheaves of the cell closures would yield a "cellular $K$-theory" Schubert basis. We show this is impossible. Nonetheless, we introduce and study a more subtle $K$-theory Schubert basis. We characterize this $K$-theory ring and develop quasisymmetric representatives with an explicit combinatorial description.

Matrix Schubert varieties are affine varieties arising in the Schubert calculus of the complete flag variety. We give a formula for the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of matrix Schubert varieties, answering a question of Jenna Rajchgot. We follow her proposed strategy of studying the highest-degree homogeneous parts of Grothendieck polynomials, which we call Castelnuovo-Mumford polynomials. In addition to the regularity formula, we obtain formulas for the degrees of all Castelnuovo-Mumford polynomials and for their leading terms, as well as a complete description of when two Castelnuovo-Mumford polynomials agree up to scalar multiple. The degree of the Grothendieck polynomial is a new permutation statistic which we call the Rajchgot index; we develop the properties of Rajchgot index and relate it to major index and to weak order.
Characteristic numbers and chromatic polynomial of a tensor
We introduce the characteristic numbers and the chromatic polynomial of a tensor. Our approach generalizes and unifies the chromatic polynomial of a graph and of a matroid, characteristic numbers of quadrics in Schubert calculus, Betti numbers of complements of hyperplane arrangements and Euler characteristic of complements of determinantal hypersurfaces and the maximum likelihood degree for general linear concentration models in algebraic statistics.
Semi-toric degenerations of Richardson varieties arising from cluster structures on flag varieties
A toric degeneration of an irreducible variety is a flat degeneration to an irreducible toric variety. In the case of a flag variety, its toric degeneration with desirable properties induces degenerations of Richardson varieties to unions of irreducible closed toric subvarieties, called semi-toric degenerations. For instance, Morier-Genoud proved that Caldero's toric degenerations arising from string polytopes have this property. Semi-toric degenerations are closely related to Schubert calculus. Indeed, Kogan-Miller constructed semi-toric degenerations of Schubert varieties from Knutson-Miller's semi-toric degenerations of matrix Schubert varieties which give a geometric proof of the pipe dream formula of Schubert polynomials. In this paper, we focus on a toric degeneration of a flag variety arising from a cluster structure, and prove that it induces semi-toric degenerations of Richardson varieties. Our semi-toric degeneration can be regarded as a generalization of Morier-Genoud's and Kogan-Miller's semi-toric degenerations.

A complete flag in $\mathbb{R}^n$ is a sequence of nested subspaces $V_1 \subset \cdots \subset V_{n-1}$ such that each $V_k$ has dimension $k$. It is called totally nonnegative if all its Plücker coordinates are nonnegative. We may view each $V_k$ as a subspace of polynomials in $\mathbb{R}[x]$ of degree at most $n-1$, by associating a vector $(a_1, \dots, a_n)$ in $\mathbb{R}^n$ to the polynomial $a_1 + a_2x + \cdots + a_nx^{n-1}$. We show that a complete flag is totally nonnegative if and only if each of its Wronskian polynomials $\mathsf{Wr}(V_k)$ is nonzero on the interval $(0, \infty)$. In the language of Chebyshev systems, this means that the flag forms a Markov system or $ECT$-system on $(0, \infty)$. This gives a new characterization and membership test for the totally nonnegative flag variety. Similarly, we show that a complete flag is totally positive if and only if each $\mathsf{Wr}(V_k)$ is nonzero on $[0, \infty]$. We use these results to show that a conjecture of Eremenko (2015) in real Schubert calculus is equivalent to the following conjecture: if $V$ is a finite-dimensional subspace of polynomials such that all complex zeros of $\mathsf{Wr}(V)$ lie in the interval $(-\infty, 0)$, then all Plücker coordinates of $V$ are real and positive. This conjecture is a totally positive strengthening of a result of Mukhin, Tarasov, and Varchenko (2009), and can be reformulated as saying that all complex solutions to a certain family of Schubert problems in the Grassmannian are real and totally positive. We also show that our conjecture is equivalent to a totally positive version of the secant conjecture of Sottile (2003).

We study the back stable $K$-theory Schubert calculus of the infinite flag variety. We define back stable (double) Grothendieck polynomials and double $K$-Stanley functions and establish coproduct expansion formulae. Applying work of Weigandt, we extend our previous results on bumpless pipedreams from cohomology to $K$-theory. We study finiteness and positivity properties of the ring of back stable Grothendieck polynomials, and divided difference operators in $K$-homology.

Using degeneration and Schubert calculus, we consider the problem of computing the number of linear series of given degree $d$ and dimension $r$ on a general curve of genus $g$ satisfying prescribed incidence conditions at $n$ points. We determine these numbers completely for linear series of arbitrary dimension when $d$ is sufficiently large, and for all $d$ when either $r=1$ or $n=r+2$. Our formulas generalize and give new proofs of recent results of Tevelev and of Cela-Pandharipande-Schmitt.

The quantum alcove model associated to a dominant weight plays an important role in many branches of mathematics, such as combinatorial representation theory, the theory of Macdonald polynomials, and Schubert calculus. For a dominant weight, it is proved by Lenart-Lubovsky that the quantum alcove model does not depend on the choice of a reduced alcove path, which is a shortest path of alcoves from the fundamental one to its translation by the given dominant weight. This is established through quantum Yang-Baxter moves, which biject the objects of the model associated with two such alcove paths, and can be viewed as a generalization of jeu de taquin slides to arbitrary root systems. The purpose of this paper is to give a generalization of quantum Yang-Baxter moves to the quantum alcove model corresponding to an arbitrary weight, which was used to express a general Chevalley formula in the equivariant $K$-group of semi-infinite flag manifolds. The generalized quantum Yang-Baxter moves give rise to a "sijection" (bijection between signed sets), and are shown to preserve certain important statistics, including weights and heights. As an application, we prove that the generating function of these statistics does not depend on the choice of a reduced alcove path. Also, we obtain an identity for the graded characters of Demazure submodules of level-zero extremal weight modules over a quantum affine algebra, which can be thought of as a representation-theoretic analogue of the mentioned Chevalley formula. Other applications and some open problems involving "signed crystals" are discussed.

Let $Φ$ be a root system. Postnikov introduced and studied the mixed $Φ$-Eulerian numbers. These numbers indicate the mixed volumes of $Φ$-hypersimplices. As specializations of these numbers, one can obtain the usual Eulerian numbers, the Catalan numbers, and the binomial coefficients. Recent work of Berget-Spink-Tseng gave a simple computation for the mixed $Φ$-Eulerian numbers when $Φ$ is of type $A$. In this paper we connect a relation between mixed $Φ$-Eulerian numbers and Peterson Schubert calculus. By using the connection, we provide a combinatorial model for the computation of Berget-Spink-Tseng in terms of left-right diagrams which were introduced by Abe-Horiguchi-Kuwata-Zeng for the purpose of Peterson Schubert calculus. We also derive a simple computation for the mixed $Φ$-Eulerian numbers in arbitrary Lie types from Peterson Schubert calculus.

We introduce an additive basis of the integral cohomology ring of the Peterson variety which reflects the geometry of certain subvarieties of the Peterson variety. We explain the positivity of the structure constants from a geometric viewpoint, and provide a manifestly positive combinatorial formula for them. We also prove that our basis coincides with the additive basis introduced by Harada-Tymoczko.

We establish connections between: the maximum likelihood degree (ML-degree) for linear concentration models, the algebraic degree of semidefinite programming (SDP), and Schubert calculus for complete quadrics. We prove a conjecture by Sturmfels and Uhler on the polynomiality of the ML-degree. We also prove a conjecture by Nie, Ranestad and Sturmfels providing an explicit formula for the degree of SDP. The interactions between the three fields shed new light on the asymptotic behaviour of enumerative invariants for the variety of complete quadrics. We also extend these results to spaces of general matrices and of skew-symmetric matrices.

We connect generalized permutahedra with Schubert calculus. Thereby, we give sufficient vanishing criteria for Schubert intersection numbers of the flag variety. Our argument utilizes recent developments in the study of Schubitopes, which are Newton polytopes of Schubert polynomials. The resulting tableau test executes in polynomial time.

One approach to Schubert calculus is to realize Schubert classes as concrete combinatorial objects such as Schubert polynomials. Through an identification of the cohomology ring of the type A full flag variety with the polytope ring of the Gelfand-Tsetlin polytopes, Kiritchenko-Smirnov-Timorin realized each Schubert class as a sum of reduced (dual) Kogan faces. In this paper, we explicitly describe string parametrizations of opposite Demazure crystals, which give a natural generalization of reduced dual Kogan faces. We also relate reduced Kogan faces with Demazure crystals using the theory of mitosis operators, and apply these observations to develop the theory of Schubert calculus on symplectic Gelfand-Tsetlin polytopes.

Peterson varieties are special nilpotent Hessenberg varieties that have appeared in the study of quantum cohomology, representation theory, and combinatorics. In type $A$, the Peterson variety $Y$ is a subvariety of the complete flag variety $Fl(n; \mathbb C)$, and is invariant under the action of a subgroup $S\cong \mathbb C^*$ of $T$, where $T$ is the standard (noncompact) torus acting on $Fl(n; \mathbb C)$. Using the Peterson Schubert basis introduced by Harada and Tymoczko obtained by restricting a specific set of Schubert classes from $H_T^*(Fl(n; \mathbb C))$ to $H_S^*(Y)$, we describe the product structure of the equivariant cohomology $H_{S}^*(Y)$. In particular, we show that the product is manifestly positive in an appropriate sense by providing an explicit positive combinatorial formula for its structure constants. Our method requires a new combinatorial identity of binomial coefficients that generalizes Vandermonde's identity.

This chapter concerns edge labeled Young tableaux, introduced by H. Thomas and the third author. It is used to model equivariant Schubert calculus of Grassmannians. We survey results, problems, conjectures, together with their influences from combinatorics, algebraic and symplectic geometry, linear algebra, and computational complexity. We report on a new shifted analogue of edge labeled tableaux. Conjecturally, this gives a Littlewood-Richardson rule for the structure constants of the D. Anderson-W. Fulton ring, which is related to the equivariant cohomology of isotropic Grassmannians.

Motivated by a question in Schubert calculus, we study the interplay of quasisymmetric polynomials with the divided symmetrization operator, which was introduced by Postnikov in the context of volume polynomials of permutahedra. Divided symmetrization is a linear form which acts on the space of polynomials in $n$ indeterminates of degree $n-1$. We first show that divided symmetrization applied to a quasisymmetric polynomial in $m$ indeterminates can be easily determined. Several examples with a strong combinatorial flavor are given. Then, we prove that the divided symmetrization of any polynomial can be naturally computed with respect to a direct sum decomposition due to Aval-Bergeron-Bergeron involving the ideal generated by positive degree quasisymmetric polynomials in $n$ indeterminates.

We describe a relationship between work of Laksov, Gatto, and their collaborators on realizations of (generalized) Schubert calculus of Grassmannians, and the geometric Satake correspondence of Lusztig, Ginzburg, and Mirković and Vilonen. Along the way we obtain new proofs of equivariant Giambelli formulas for the ordinary and orthogonal Grassmannians, as well as a simple derivation of the "rim-hook" rule for computing in the equivariant quantum cohomology of the Grassmannian.
