The main goal of this paper is to show that the (multi-homogeneous) coordinate ring of a partial flag variety $\mathbb{C} [G / P_K^{-}]$ admits a cluster algebra structure if $G$ is any simply-connected semisimple complex algebraic group. We use derivation properties and a special lifting map to prove that the cluster algebra structure $\mathcal{A}$ of the coordinate ring $\mathbb{C}[N_K]$ of a Schubert cell constructed by Goodearl and Yakimov can be lifted, in an explicit way, to a cluster structure $\hat{\mathcal{A}}$ living in the coordinate ring of the corresponding partial flag variety. Then we use a minimality condition to prove that the cluster algebra $\hat{\mathcal{A}}$ is indeed equal to $\mathbb{C}[G / P_K^{-}]$.
Surrogate "Level-Based" Lagrangian Relaxation for Mixed-Integer Linear Programming

Mixed-Integer Linear Programming (MILP) plays an important role across a range of scientific disciplines and within areas of strategic importance to society. The MILP problems, however, suffer from combinatorial complexity. Because of integer decision variables, as the problem size increases, the number of possible solutions increases super-linearly thereby leading to a drastic increase in the computational effort. To efficiently solve MILP problems, a "price-based" decomposition and coordination approach is developed to exploit 1. the super-linear reduction of complexity upon the decomposition and 2. the geometric convergence potential inherent to Polyak's stepsizing formula for the fastest coordination possible to obtain near-optimal solutions in a computationally efficient manner. Unlike all previous methods to set stepsizes heuristically by adjusting hyperparameters, the key novel way to obtain stepsizes is purely decision-based: a novel "auxiliary" constraint satisfaction problem is solved, from which the appropriate stepsizes are inferred. Testing results for large-scale Generalized Assignment Problems (GAP) demonstrate that for the majority of instances, certifiably optimal solutions are obtained. For stochastic job-shop scheduling as well as for pharmaceutical scheduling, computational results demonstrate the two orders of magnitude speedup as compared to Branch-and-Cut (B&C). The new method has a major impact on the efficient resolution of complex Mixed-Integer Programming (MIP) problems arising within a variety of scientific fields.

The $k$-associahedron $Ass_k(n)$ is the simplicial complex of $(k+1)$-crossing-free subgraphs of the complete graph with vertices on a circle. Its facets are called $k$-triangulations.
We explore the connection of $Ass_k(n)$ with the Pfaffian variety $Pf_k(n)\subset {\mathbb K}^{\binom{[n]}2}$ of antisymmetric matrices of rank $\le 2k$.
First, we characterize the Gröbner cone $Grob_k(n)\subset{\mathbb R}^{\binom{[n]}2}$ producing as initial ideal of $I(Pf_k(n))$ the Stanley-Reisner ideal of $Ass_k(n)$ (that is, the monomial ideal generated by $(k+1)$-crossings). This implies that $k$-triangulations are bases in the algebraic matroid of $Pf_k(n)$, a matroid closely related to low-rank completion of antisymmetric matrices.
We then look at the tropicalization of $Pf_k(n)$ and show that $Ass_k(n)$ embeds naturally as the intersection of $\operatorname{trop}(Pf_k(n))$ and $Grob_k(n)$, and is contained in the totally positive part $\operatorname{trop}^+( Pf_k(n))$ of it.
We show that for $k=1$ and for each triangulation $T$ of the $n$-gon, the projection of this embedding of $Ass_k(n)$ to the $n-3$ coordinates corresponding to diagonals in $T$ gives a complete polytopal fan, realizing the associahedron. This fan is linearly isomorphic to the $\mathbf g$-vector fan of the cluster algebra of type $A$, shown to be polytopal by Hohlweg, Pilaud and Stella in (2018).

The totally nonnegative flag variety was introduced by Lusztig. It has enriched combinatorial, geometric, and Lie-theoretic structures. In this paper, we introduce a (new) $J$-total positivity on the full flag variety of an arbitrary Kac-Moody group, generalizing the (ordinary) total positivity.
We show that the $J$-totally nonnegative flag variety has a cellular decomposition into totally positive $J$-Richardson varieties. Moreover, each totally positive $J$-Richardson variety admits a favorable decomposition, called a product structure. Combined with the generalized Poincare conjecture, we prove that the closure of each totally positive $J$-Richardson variety is a regular CW complex homeomorphic to a closed ball. Moreover, the $J$-total positivity on the full flag provides a model for the (ordinary) totally nonnegative partial flag variety. As a consequence, we prove that the closure of each (ordinary) totally positive Richardson variety is a regular CW complex homeomorphic to a closed ball, confirming conjectures of Galashin, Karp and Lam.
Orientation of alcoves in affine Weyl groups
Let $W$ be an irreducible Weyl group and $W_a$ its affine Weyl group. In a previous work the author introduced an affine variety $\widehat{X}_{W_a}$, called the Shi variety of $W_a$, whose integral points are in bijection with $W_a$. The set of irreducible components of $\widehat{X}_{W_a}$ provided results at the intersection of group theory, combinatorics and geometry. In this article we express the notion of orientation of alcoves in terms of the first group of cohomogoly of $W$ and in terms of the irreducible components of the Shi variety. We also provide modular equations in terms of Shi coefficients that describe efficiently the property of having the same orientation.
Minimally globally rigid graphs

A graph $G = (V,E)$ is globally rigid in $\mathbb{R}^d$ if for any generic placement $p : V \rightarrow \mathbb{R}^d$ of the vertices, the edge lengths $||p(u) - p(v)||, uv \in E$ uniquely determine $p$, up to congruence. In this paper we consider minimally globally rigid graphs, in which the deletion of an arbitrary edge destroys global rigidity. We prove that if $G=(V,E)$ is minimally globally rigid in $\mathbb{R}^d$ on at least $d+2$ vertices, then $|E|\leq (d+1)|V|-\binom{d+2}{2}$. This implies that the minimum degree of $G$ is at most $2d+1$. We also show that the only graph in which the upper bound on the number of edges is attained is the complete graph $K_{d+2}$. It follows that every minimally globally rigid graph in $\mathbb{R}^d$ on at least $d+3$ vertices is flexible in $\mathbb{R}^{d+1}$. As a counterpart to our main result on the sparsity of minimally globally rigid graphs, we show that in two dimensions, dense graphs always contain nontrivial globally rigid subgraphs. More precisely, if some graph $G=(V,E)$ satisfies $|E|\geq 5|V|$, then $G$ contains a subgraph on at least seven vertices that is globally rigid in $\mathbb{R}^2$. If the well-known "sufficient connectivity conjecture" is true, then our methods also extend to higher dimensions. Finally, we discuss a conjectured strengthening of our main result, which states that if a pair of vertices $\{u,v\}$ is linked in $G$ in $\mathbb{R}^{d+1}$, then $\{u,v\}$ is globally linked in $G$ in $\mathbb{R}^d$. We prove this conjecture in the $d=1,2$ cases, along with a variety of related results.

We characterize the quotients among lattice path matroids (LPMs) in terms of their diagrams. This characterization allows us to show that ordering LPMs by quotients yields a graded poset, whose rank polynomial has the Narayana numbers as coefficients.
Furthermore, we study full lattice path flag matroids and show that -- contrary to arbitrary positroid flag matroids -- they correspond to points in the nonnegative flag variety. At the basis of this result lies an identification of certain intervals of the strong Bruhat order with lattice path flag matroids.
A recent conjecture of Mcalmon, Oh, and Xiang states a characterization of quotients of positroids. We use our results to prove this conjecture in the case of LPMs.

We conduct a systematic study of the Ehrhart theory of certain slices of rectangular prisms. Our polytopes are generalizations of the hypersimplex and are contained in the larger class of polypositroids introduced by Lam and Postnikov; moreover, they coincide with polymatroids satisfying the strong exchange property up to an affinity. We give a combinatorial formula for all the Ehrhart coefficients in terms of the number of weighted permutations satisfying certain compatibility properties. This result proves that all these polytopes are Ehrhart positive. Additionally, via an extension of a result by Early and Kim, we give a combinatorial interpretation for all the coefficients of the $h^*$-polynomial. All of our results provide a combinatorial understanding of the Hilbert functions and the $h$-vectors of all algebras of Veronese type, a problem that had remained elusive up to this point. A variety of applications are discussed, including expressions for the volumes of these slices of prisms as weighted combinations of Eulerian numbers; some extensions of Laplace's result on the combinatorial interpretation of the volume of the hypersimplex; a multivariate generalization of the flag Eulerian numbers and refinements; and a short proof of the Ehrhart positivity of the independence polytope of all uniform matroids.
Tangent spaces and T-invariant curves of Schubert varieties

The set of T-invariant curves in a Schubert variety through a T-fixed point is relatively easy to characterize in terms of its weights, but the tangent space is more difficult. We prove that the weights of the tangent space are contained in the rational cone generated by the weights of the T-invariant curves. In simply laced types, this remains true if "rational" is replaced by "integral". We also obtain conditions under which every weight of the tangent space is the weight of a T-invariant curve, as well as a smoothness criterion. The results rely on equivariant K-theory, as well as the study of different notions of decomposability of roots.

Chow rings of flag varieties have bases of Schubert cycles $σ_u$, indexed by permutations. A major problem of algebraic combinatorics is to give a positive combinatorial formula for the structure constants of this basis. The celebrated Littlewood-Richardson rules solve this problem for special products $σ_u \cdot σ_v$ where $u$ and $v$ are $p$-Grassmannian permutations.
Building on work of Wyser, we introduce backstable clans to prove such a rule for the problem of computing the product $σ_u \cdot σ_v$ when $u$ is $p$-inverse Grassmannian and $v$ is $q$-inverse Grassmannian. By establishing several new families of linear relations among structure constants, we further extend this result to obtain a positive combinatorial rule for $σ_u \cdot σ_v$ in the case that $u$ is covered in weak Bruhat order by a $p$-inverse Grassmannian permutation and $v$ is a $q$-inverse Grassmannian permutation.

We study the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of tangent cones of Schubert varieties. Conjectures about this statistic are presented; these are proved for the covexillary case. This builds on work of L. Li and the author on these tangent cones, as well as that of J. Rajchgot-Y. Ren-C. Robichaux-A. St. Dizier-A. Weigandt and J. Rajchgot-C. Robichaux-A. In [Dugan-Glennon-Gunnells-Steingrimsson-2019], the authors introduce tiered trees to define combinatorial objects counting absolutely indecomposable representations of certain quivers, and torus orbits on certain homogeneous varieties. In this paper, we use Theta operators, introduced in [D'Adderio-Iraci-VandenWyngaerd-Theta-2021], to give a symmetric function formula that enumerates these trees. We then formulate a general conjecture that extends this result, a special case of which might give some insight about how to formulate a unified Delta conjecture [Haglund-Remmel-Wilson-2018].
Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of ladder determinantal varieties and patches of Grassmannian Schubert varieties

We give degree formulas for Grothendieck polynomials indexed by vexillary permutations and $1432$-avoiding permutations via tableau combinatorics. These formulas generalize a formula for degrees of symmetric Grothendieck polynomials which appeared in previous joint work of the authors with Y. Ren and A. St. Dizier.
We apply our formulas to compute Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of classes of generalized determinantal ideals. In particular, we give combinatorial formulas for the regularities of all one-sided mixed ladder determinantal ideals. We also derive formulas for the regularities of certain Kazhdan-Lusztig ideals, including those coming from open patches of Schubert varieties in Grassmannians. This provides a correction to a conjecture of Kummini-Lakshmibai-Sastry-Seshadri (2015).

Schubert polynomials $\mathfrak{S}_w$ are polynomial representatives for cohomology classes of Schubert varieties in a complete flag variety, while Grothendieck polynomials $\mathfrak{G}_w$ are analogous representatives for the $K$-theory classes of the structure sheaves of Schubert varieties. In the special case that $\mathfrak{S}_w$ is a multiplicity-free sum of monomials, K. Mészáros, L. Setiabrata, and A. St. Dizier conjectured that $\mathfrak{G}_w$ can be easily computed from $\mathfrak{S}_w$ via Möbius inversion on a certain poset. We prove this conjecture.
Schreier's type formulae and two scales for growth of Lie algebras and groups

Let $G$ be a free group of rank $n$ and $H\subset G$ its subgroup of finite index. Then $H$ is also a free group and the rank $m$ of $H$ is determined by Schreier's formula $m-1=(n-1)\cdot|G:H|.$
Any subalgebra of a free Lie algebra is also free. But a straightforward analogue of Schreier's formula for free Lie algebras does not exist, because any subalgebra of finite codimension has an infinite number of generators.
But the appropriate Schreier's formula for free Lie algebras exists in terms of formal power series. There exists also a version in terms of exponential generating functions. This is a survey on how these formulas are applied to study 1) growth of finitely generated Lie algebras and groups and 2) the codimension growth of varieties of Lie algebras. First, these formulae allow to specify explicit formulas for generating functions of respective types for free solvable (or more generally, polynilpotent) Lie algebras. Second, these explicit formulas for generating functions are used to derive asymptotic for these two types of the growth. These results can be viewed as analogues of the Witt formula for free Lie algebras and groups. In case of Lie algebras, we obtain two scales for respective types of growth. We also shortly mention the situation on growth for other types of linear algebras.
Sumsets and Veronese varieties

In this paper, to any subset $\mathcal{A} \subset \mathbb{Z}^{n}$ we explicitly associate a unique monomial projection $Y_{n,d_{\mathcal{A}}}$ of a Veronese variety, whose Hilbert function coincides with the cardinality of the $t$-fold sumsets $t\mathcal{A}$. This link allows us to tackle the classical problem of determining the polynomial $p_{\mathcal{A}} \in \mathbb{Q}[t]$ such that $|t\mathcal{A}| = p_{\mathcal{A}}(t)$ for all $t \geq t_0$ and the minimum integer $n_0(\mathcal{A}) \leq t_0$ for which this condition is satisfied, i.e. the so-called {\em phase transition} of $|t\mathcal{A}|$. We use the Castelnuovo--Mumford regularity and the geometry of $Y_{n,d_{\mathcal{A}}}$ to describe the polynomial $p_{\mathcal{A}}(t)$ and to derive new bounds for $n_0(\mathcal{A})$ under some technical assumptions on the convex hull of $\mathcal{A}$; and vice versa we apply the theory of sumsets to obtain geometric information of the varieties $Y_{n,d_{\mathcal{A}}}$.

We consider generalizations of the Springer resolution of the nilpotent cone of a simple Lie algebra by replacing the cotangent bundle with certain other vector bundles over the flag variety. We show that the analogue of the Springer sheaf has as direct summands only intersection cohomology sheaves that arise in the Springer correspondence. The fibers of these general maps are nilpotent Hessenberg varieties, and we build on techniques established by De Concini, Lusztig, and Procesi to study their geometry. For example, we show that these fibers have vanishing cohomology in odd degrees. This leads to several implications for the dual picture, where we consider maps that generalize the Grothendieck-Springer resolution of the whole Lie algebra. In particular we are able to prove a conjecture of Brosnan.
As we vary the maps, the cohomology of the corresponding nilpotent Hessenberg varieties often satisfy a relation we call the geometric modular law, which also has origins in the work on De Concini, Lusztig, and Procesi. We connect this relation in type $A$ with a combinatorial modular law defined by Guay-Paquet that is satisfied by certain symmetric functions and deduce some consequences of that connection.
Cluster algebras associated with open Richardson varieties: an algorithm to compute initial seeds
We present a new algorithm to compute initial seeds for cluster structures on categories associated with coordinate rings of open Richardson varieties. This allows us to explicitely determine seeds first considered in Leclerc's 2016 article.
On the support of Grothendieck polynomials
Grothendieck polynomials $\mathfrak{G}_w$ of permutations $w\in S_n$ were introduced by Lascoux and Schützenberger in 1982 as a set of distinguished representatives for the K-theoretic classes of Schubert cycles in the K-theory of the flag variety of $\mathbb{C}^n$. We conjecture that the exponents of nonzero terms of the Grothendieck polynomial $\mathfrak{G}_w$ form a poset under componentwise comparison that is isomorphic to an induced subposet of $\mathbb{Z}^n$. When $w\in S_n$ avoids a certain set of patterns, we conjecturally connect the coefficients of $\mathfrak{G}_w$ with the Möbius function values of the aforementioned poset with $\hat{0}$ appended. We prove special cases of our conjectures for Grassmannian and fireworks permutations.
Networks with complex weights: Green function and power series

We introduce a Green function and analogues of other related kernels for finite and infinite networks whose edge weights are complex-valued admittances with positive real part. We provide comparison results with the same kernels associated with corresponding reversible Markov chains, i.e., where the edge weights are positive. Under suitable conditions, these lead to comparison of series of matrix powers which express those kernels. We show that the notions of transience and recurrence extend by analytic continuation to the complex-weighted case even when the network is infinite. Thus, a variety of methods known for Markov chains extend to that setting.
