Long, Reid, and Thistlewaite have shown that some groups generated by representations of the $Δ334$ triangle group in $SL_3({\mathbb Z})$ are thin, while the status of others is unknown. In this paper we take a new approach: for each group we introduce a new graph that captures information about representations of $Δ334$ in the group. We provide examples of our graph for a variety of groups, and we use information about the graph for $SL_3({\mathbb Z}/2{\mathbb Z})$ to show that the chromatic number of the graph for $SL_3({\mathbb Z})$ is at most eight. By generating a portion of the graph for $SL_3({\mathbb Z})$ we show its chromatic number is at least four; we conjecture it is equal to four.

Let $\mathfrak{g}$ be the Lie algebra $\mathfrak{sl}(n,\mathbb{C})$. Its Weyl group is the symmetric group $S_n$. In this paper, we want to describe some Kazhdan-Lusztig right cells containing smooth elements which parameterize the smooth Schubert varieties. These elements are closely related to the study of associated varieties of highest weight modules of $\mathfrak{sl}(n,\mathbb{C})$. Firstly, we give a complete classification of the KL right cells containing only smooth elements. Then we give a sufficient condition for a KL right cell to contain only non-smooth elements by using invariant subsequences and a sufficient condition for a KL right cell to contain some smooth elements. Finally, we give an efficient algorithm to find out all the smooth elements in a given KL right cell.

Chromatic symmetric functions are well-studied symmetric functions in algebraic combinatorics that generalize the chromatic polynomial and are related to Hessenberg varieties and diagonal harmonics. Motivated by the Stanley--Stembridge conjecture, we show that the allowable coloring weights for indifference graphs of Dyck paths are the lattice points of a permutahedron $\mathcal{P}_λ$, and we give a formula for the dominant weight $λ$. Furthermore, we conjecture that such chromatic symmetric functions are Lorentzian, a property introduced by Brändén and Huh as a bridge between discrete convex analysis and concavity properties in combinatorics, and we prove this conjecture for abelian Dyck paths. We extend our results on the Newton polytope to incomparability graphs of (3+1)-free posets, and we give a number of conjectures and results stemming from our work, including results on the complexity of computing the coefficients and relations with the $ζ$ map from diagonal harmonics.

We present a review on the recently discovered link between the Lie theory, the theory of quiver Grassmannians, and various degenerations of flag varieties. Our starting point is the induced Poincaré--Birkhoff--Witt filtration on the highest weight representations and the corresponding PBW degenerate flag varieties.
Dimension computations for tropical determinantal varieties and prevarieties
This paper proves that when the $r \times r$ minors of an $m \times n$ matrix of indeterminates are not a tropical basis then the tropical prevariety has greater dimension than the tropical variety. It proves the same for the $r \times r$ minors of an $n \times n$ symmetric matrix of indeterminates when r > 4.

For positive integers $n$ and $k$, the dendrimer $T_{n, k}$ is defined as the rooted tree of radius $n$ whose all vertices at distance less than $n$ from the root have degree $k$. The dendrimers are higly branched organic macromolecules having repeated iterations of branched units that surroundes the central core. Dendrimers are used in a variety of fields including chemistry, nanotechnology, biology. In this paper, for any positive integer $\ell$, we count the number of paths of length $\ell$ of $T_{n, k}$. As a consequence of our main results, we obtain the average distance of $T_{n, k}$ which we can establish an alternate proof for the Wiener index of $T_{n, k}$. Further, we generalize the concept of medium domination, introduced by Vargör and Dündar in 2011, of $T_{n, k}$.
Gorenstein braid cones and crepant resolutions

To any poset $P$, we associate a convex cone called a braid cone. We also associate a fan and study the toric varieties the cone and fan define. The fan always defines a smooth toric variety $X_P$, while the toric variety $U_P$ of the cone may be singular. We show that $X_{P} \dashrightarrow U_{P}$ is a crepant resolution of singularities if and only if $P$ is bounded. Next, we aim to determine when $U_P$ is Gorenstein or $\mathbb{Q}$-Gorenstein. We prove that whether or not $U_P$ is ($\mathbb{Q}$)-Gorenstein depends only on the biconnected components of the Hasse diagram of $P$. In the case that $P$ has a minimum or maximum element, we show that the Gorenstein property of $U_P$ is completely determined by the Möbius function of $P$. We also provide a recursive method that determines if $U_P$ is ($\mathbb{Q}$)-Gorenstein in this case. We conjecture that $U_P$ is Gorenstein if and only if it is $\mathbb{Q}$-Gorenstein. We verify this conjecture for posets of length $1$ and also for posets with a minimum or maximum element.
Cohomology rings of quasitoric bundles

The classical BKK theorem computes the intersection number of divisors on toric variety in terms of volumes of corresponding polytopes. It was observed by Pukhlikov and the first author that the BKK theorem leads to a presentation of the cohomology ring of toric variety as a quotient of the ring of differential operators with constant coefficients by the annihilator of an explicit polynomial.
In this paper we generalize this construction to the case of quasitoric bundles. These are fiber bundles with generalized quasitoric manifolds as fibers. First we obtain a generalization of the BKK theorem to this case. Then we use recently obtained descriptions of the graded-commutative algebras which satisfy Poincaré duality to give a description of cohomology rings of quasitoric bundles.

For a smooth projective toric variety of Picard rank two we classify all exceptional sequences of invertible sheaves which have maximal length. In particular, we prove that unlike non-maximal sequences, they (a) remain exceptional under lexicographical reordering (b) satisfy strong height constraints in the Picard lattice (c) are full, that is, they generate the derived category of the variety.
Nonfinitely based ai-semirings with finitely based semigroup reducts

We present some general results implying nonfinite axiomatisability of many additively idempotent semirings with finitely based semigroup reducts. The smallest is a $3$-element commutative example, which we show also has \texttt{NP}-hard membership for its variety. As well as being the only nonfinite axiomatisable ai-semiring on $3$-elements, we are able to show that its nonfinite basis property infects many related semirings, including the natural ai-semiring structure on the semigroup $B_2^1$. We also extend previous group-theory based examples significantly, by showing that any finite additively idempotent semiring with a nonabelian nilpotent subgroup is not finitely axiomatisable for its identities.
Geometry of logarithmic derivations of hyperplane arrangements

We study the Hadamard product of the linear forms defining a hyperplane arrangement with those of its dual, which we view as generating an ideal in a certain polynomial ring. We use this ideal, which we call the ideal of pairs, to study logarithmic derivations and critical set varieties of arrangements in a way which is symmetric with respect to matroid duality. Our main result exhibits the variety of the ideal of pairs as a subspace arrangement whose components correspond to cyclic flats of the arrangement. As a corollary, we are able to give geometric explanations of some freeness and projective dimension results due to Ziegler and Kung--Schenck.
Torus fixed point sets of Hessenberg Schubert varieties in regular semisimple Hessenberg varieties
It is well-known that the $T$-fixed points of a Schubert variety in the flag variety $GL_n(\mathbb{C})/B$ can be characterized purely combinatorially in terms of Bruhat order on the symmetric group $\mathfrak{S}_n$. In a recent preprint, Cho, Hong, and Lee give a combinatorial description of the $T$-fixed points of Hessenberg analogues of Schubert varieties (which we call Hessenberg Schubert varieties) in a regular semisimple Hessenberg variety. This note gives an interpretation of their result in terms of Bruhat order by making use of a partition of the symmetric group defined using so-called subsets of Weyl type. The Appendix, written by Michael Zeng, proves a lemma concerning subsets of Weyl type which is required in our arguments.

We prove a conjecture of Buch and Mihalcea in the case of the incidence variety X=Fl(1,n-1;n) and determine the structure of its (T-equivariant) quantum K-theory ring. Our results are an interplay between geometry and combinatorics. The geometric side concerns Gromov-Witten varieties of 3-pointed genus 0 stable maps to X with markings sent to Schubert varieties, while on the combinatorial side are formulas for the (equivariant) quantum K-theory ring of X. We prove that the Gromov-Witten variety is rationally connected when one of the defining Schubert varieties is a divisor and another is a point. This implies that the (equivariant) K-theoretic Gromov-Witten invariants defined by two Schubert classes and a Schubert divisor class can be computed in the ordinary (equivariant) K-theory ring of X. We derive a positive Chevalley formula for the equivariant quantum K-theory ring of X and a positive Littlewood-Richardson rule for the non-equivariant quantum K-theory ring of X. The Littlewood-Richardson rule in turn implies that non-empty Gromov-Witten varieties given by Schubert varieties in general position have arithmetic genus 0.
Certain properties and applications of shallow bosonic circuits
We introduce a novel approach to solve optimization problems on a boson sampling device assisted by classical machine-learning techniques. By virtue of the parity function, we map all measurement patterns, which label the basis spanning an $M$-mode bosonic Hilbert space, to the Hilbert space of $M$ qubits. As a result, the sampled probability function can be interpreted as a result of sampling a multiqubit circuit. The method is presented on several instances of a QUBO/Ising problem as well as portfolio optimization problems. Among many demonstrated properties of the parity function is the ability to chart the entire qubit Hilbert space no matter how shallow the initial bosonic circuits is. In order to show this we link boson sampling circuits to a class of finite Young's lattices (a special poset with the so-called Ferrers diagrams ordered by inclusion), Boolean lattices and the properties of Dyck/staircase paths on integer lattices. Our results and methods can be applied to a large variety of photonic circuits, including the deep ones of essentially any geometry, but our main focus is on shallow circuits as they are less affected by photon loss and relatively easy to implement in the form of a time-bin interferometer.
Fire retainment on Cayley graphs

We study the fire-retaining problem on groups, a quasi-isometry invariant introduced by Martínez-Pedroza and Prytula [8], related to the firefighter problem. We prove that any Cayley graph with degree-$d$ polynomial growth does not satisfy $\{f(n)\}$-retainment, for any $f(n) = o(n^{d-2})$, matching the upper bound given for the firefighter problem for these graphs. In the exponential growth regime we prove general lower bounds for direct products and wreath products. These bounds are tight, and show that for exponential-growth groups a wide variety of behaviors is possible. In particular, we construct, for any $d\geq 1$, groups that satisfy $\{n^{d}\}$-retainment but not $o(n^d)$-retainment, as well as groups that do not satisfy sub-exponential retainment.

Let $k$ and $n$ be positive coprime integers with $k<n$. Let $T$ denote the subgroup of diagonal matrices in $SL(n,\mathbb{C})$. We study the GIT quotient of Richardson varieties $X^v_w$ in the Grassmannian $\mathrm{Gr}_{k,n}$ by $T$ with respect to a $T$-linearised line bundle $\cal{L}$ corresponding to the Plücker embedding. We give necessary and sufficient combinatorial conditions for the quotient variety $T \backslash\mkern-6mu\backslash (X_w^v)^{ss}_T({\cal L})$ to be smooth.

We show that the image of a subshift $X$ under various injective morphisms of symbolic algebraic varieties over monoid universes with algebraic variety alphabets is a subshift of finite type, resp. a sofic subshift, if and only if so is $X$. Similarly, let $G$ be a countable monoid and let $A$, $B$ be Artinian modules over a ring. We prove that for every closed subshift submodule $Σ\subset A^G$ and every injective $G$-equivariant uniformly continuous module homomorphism $τ\colon Σ\to B^G$, a subshift $Δ\subset Σ$ is of finite type, resp. sofic, if and only if so is the image $τ(Δ)$. Generalizations for admissible group cellular automata over admissible Artinian group structure alphabets are also obtained.
The multiplicity of a singularity in a vexillary Schubert variety

In a classical-type flag variety, we consider a Schubert variety associated to a vexillary (signed) permutation, and establish a combinatorial formula for the Hilbert-Samuel multiplicity of a point on such a Schubert variety. The formula is expressed in terms of excited Young diagrams, and extends results for Grassmannians due to Krattenthaler, Lakshmibai-Raghavan-Sankaran, and for the maximal isotropic (symplectic and orthogonal) Grassmannians to Ghorpade-Raghavan, Raghavan-Upadhyay, Kreiman, and Ikeda-Naruse. We also provide a new proof of a theorem of Li-Yong in the type A vexillary case. The main ingredient is an isomorphism between certain neighborhoods of fixed points, known as Kazhdan-Lusztig varieties, which, in turn, relies on a direct sum embedding previously used by Anderson-Fulton to relate vexillary loci to Grassmannian loci.
