In this paper, we give $\mathbb{Z}\left[1/2\right]$-forms of $\mathrm{SO}(3,\mathbb{C})$-orbits in the flag variety of $\mathrm{SL}_3(\mathbb{C})$. We also prove that they give a $\mathbb{Z}\left[1/2\right]$-form of the $\mathrm{SO}(3,\mathbb{C})$-orbit decomposition of the flag variety of $\mathrm{SL}_3(\mathbb{C})$.

The classical $q$-analogue of the integers was recently generalized by Morier-Genoud and Ovsienko to give $q$-analogues of rational numbers. Some combinatorial interpretations are already known, namely as the rank generating functions for certain partially ordered sets. We review some of these interpretations, and additionally give a slightly novel approach in terms of planar graphs called snake graphs. Using the snake graph approach, we show that the numerators of $q$-rationals count the sizes of certain varieties over finite fields, which are unions of open Schubert cells in some Grassmannian.

In this paper, we study the Wilf-type equivalence relations among multiset permutations. We identify all multiset equivalences among pairs of patterns consisting of a pattern of length three and another pattern of length at most four. To establish our results, we make use of a variety of techniques, including Ferrers-equivalence arguments, sorting by minimal/maximal letters, analysis of active sites and direct bijections. In several cases, our arguments may be extended to prove multiset equivalences for infinite families of pattern pairs. Our results apply equally well to the Wilf-type classification of compositions, and as a consequence, we obtain a complete description of the Wilf-equivalence classes for pairs of patterns of type (3,3) and (3,4) on compositions, with the possible exception of two classes of type (3,4).

Let $G$ be a group. Let $X$ be an algebraic group over an algebraically closed field $K$. Denote by $A=X(K)$ the set of rational points of $X$. We study algebraic group cellular automata $τ\colon A^G \to A^G$ whose local defining map is induced by a homomorphism of algebraic groups $X^M \to X$ where $M$ is a finite memory. When $G$ is sofic and $K$ is uncountable, we show that if $τ$ is post-surjective then it is weakly pre-injective. Our result extends the dual version of Gottschalk's Conjecture for finite alphabets proposed by Capobianco, Kari, and Taati. When $G$ is amenable, we prove that if $τ$ is surjective then it is weakly pre-injective, and conversely, if $τ$ is pre-injective then it is surjective. Hence, we obtain a complete answer to a question of Gromov on the Garden of Eden theorem in the case of algebraic group cellular automata.

Recently, we have witnessed tremendous applications of algebraic intersection theory to branches of mathematics, that previously seemed very distant. In this article we review some of them. Our aim is to provide a unified approach to the results e.g. in the theory of chromatic polynomials (work of Adiprasito, Huh, Katz), maximum likelihood degree in algebraic statistics (Drton, Manivel, Monin, Sturmfels, Uhler, Wiśniewski), Euler characteristics of determinental varieties (Dimca, Papadima), characteristic numbers (Aluffi, Schubert, Vakil) and the degree of semidefinite programming (Bothmer, Nie, Ranestad, Sturmfels). Our main tools come from intersection theory on special varieties called the varieties of complete forms (De Concini, Procesi, Thaddeus) and the study of Segre classes (Laksov, Lascoux, Pragacz, Thorup).
Higher-order generalizations of stability and arithmetic regularity
We define a natural notion of higher order stability and show that subsets of $\mathbb{F}_p^n$ that are tame in this sense can be approximately described by a union of low-complexity quadratic varieties, up to linear error. This generalizes the arithmetic regularity lemma for stable subsets of $\mathbb{F}_p^n$, proved in earlier work of the authors, to the realm of higher-order Fourier analysis.
This result is strictly stronger than the structure theorem for sets of bounded $\mathrm{VC}_2$-dimension, first proved by the authors in earlier versions of this paper and now available as a separate manuscript arXiv:2510.12867. Taken together, these results provide group theoretic analogues of results obtained for 3-uniform hypergraphs in arXiv:2111.01737.

We give a generating function for the number of pairs of $n\times n$ matrices $(A, B)$ over a finite field that are mutually annihilating, namely, $AB=BA=0$. This generating function can be viewed as a singular analogue of a series considered by Cohen and Lenstra. We show that this generating function has a factorization that allows it to be meromorphically extended to the entire complex plane. We also use it to count pairs of mutually annihilating nilpotent matrices. This work is essentially a study of the motivic aspects about the variety of modules over $\mathbb C[u,v]/(uv)$ as well as the moduli stack of coherent sheaves over an algebraic curve with nodal singularities.

Let $ζ$ be a fixed nonzero element in a finite field $\mathbb F_q$ with $q$ elements. In this article, we count the number of pairs $(A,B)$ of $n\times n$ matrices over $\mathbb F_q$ satisfying $AB=ζBA$ by giving a generating function. This generalizes a generating function of Feit and Fine that counts pairs of commuting matrices. Our result can be also viewed as the point count of the variety of modules over the quantum plane $xy=ζyx$, whose geometry was described by Chen and Lu.

We construct special Lagrangian fibrations for log Calabi-Yau surfaces, and scattering diagrams from Lagrangian Floer theory of the fibres. Then we prove that the scattering diagrams recover the scattering diagrams of Gross-Pandharipande-Siebert and the canonical scattering diagrams of Gross-Hacking-Keel. With an additional assumption on the non-negativity of boundary divisors, we compute the disc potentials of the Lagrangian torus fibres via a holomorphic/tropical correspondence. As an application, we provide a version of mirror symmetry for rank two cluster varieties.
On sufficient conditions for spanning structures in dense graphs

We study structural conditions in dense graphs that guarantee the existence of vertex-spanning substructures such as Hamilton cycles. It is easy to see that every Hamiltonian graph is connected, has a perfect fractional matching and, excluding the bipartite case, contains an odd cycle. A simple consequence of the Robust Expander Theorem of Kühn, Osthus and Treglown tells us that any large enough graph that robustly satisfies these properties must already be Hamiltonian. Our main result generalises this phenomenon to powers of cycles and graphs of sublinear bandwidth subject to natural generalisations of connectivity, matchings and odd cycles.
This answers a question of Ebsen, Maesaka, Reiher, Schacht and Schülke and solves the embedding problem that underlies multiple lines of research on sufficient conditions for spanning structures in dense graphs. As applications, we recover and establish Bandwidth Theorems in a variety of settings including Ore-type degree conditions, Pósa-type degree conditions, deficiency-type conditions, locally dense and inseparable graphs, multipartite graphs as well as robust expanders.
Semi-toric degenerations of Richardson varieties arising from cluster structures on flag varieties
A toric degeneration of an irreducible variety is a flat degeneration to an irreducible toric variety. In the case of a flag variety, its toric degeneration with desirable properties induces degenerations of Richardson varieties to unions of irreducible closed toric subvarieties, called semi-toric degenerations. For instance, Morier-Genoud proved that Caldero's toric degenerations arising from string polytopes have this property. Semi-toric degenerations are closely related to Schubert calculus. Indeed, Kogan-Miller constructed semi-toric degenerations of Schubert varieties from Knutson-Miller's semi-toric degenerations of matrix Schubert varieties which give a geometric proof of the pipe dream formula of Schubert polynomials. In this paper, we focus on a toric degeneration of a flag variety arising from a cluster structure, and prove that it induces semi-toric degenerations of Richardson varieties. Our semi-toric degeneration can be regarded as a generalization of Morier-Genoud's and Kogan-Miller's semi-toric degenerations.

A permutation is called smooth if the corresponding Schubert variety is smooth. Gilboa and Lapid prove that in the symmetric group, multiplying the reflections below a smooth element $w$ in Bruhat order in a compatible order yields back the element $w$. We strengthen this result by showing that such a product in fact determines a saturated chain $e \to w$ in Bruhat order, and that this property characterizes smooth elements.
Combinatorics of Iwahori Whittaker Functions
We give a combinatorial evaluation of Iwahori Whittaker functions for unramified genuine principal series representations on metaplectic covers of the general linear group over a non-archimedean local field. To describe the combinatorics, we introduce new combinatorial data that we call colored data: colored Lusztig data, colored Gelfand-Tsetlin patterns, and colored lattice models. We show that all three are equivalent. To achieve the result, we give an explicit Iwahori decomposition for the maximal unipotent subgroup of a split reductive group which gives the parametrization of the generalized Mirković-Vilonen cycles in the affine flag varieties and is of interest in itself.
Our result is based and naturally extends Peter McNamara's evaluation of the metaplectic spherical Whittaker function in terms of Lusztig data.
$K_{5,5}$ is fully reconstructible in $\mathbb{C}^3$

A graph $G$ is fully reconstructible in $\mathbb{C}^d$ if the graph is determined from its $d$-dimensional measurement variety. The full reconstructibility problem has been solved for $d=1$ and $d=2$. For $d=3$, some necessary and some sufficient conditions are known and $K_{5,5}$ falls squarely within the gap in the theory. In this paper, we show that $K_{5,5}$ is fully reconstructible in $\mathbb{C}^3$.

We study totally nonnegative parts of critical varieties in the Grassmannian. We show that each totally nonnegative critical variety Crit$^{\ge0}_f$ is the image of an affine poset cyclohedron under a continuous map and use this map to define a boundary stratification of Crit$^{\ge0}_f$. For the case of the top-dimensional positroid cell, we show that the totally nonnegative critical variety Crit$^{\ge0}_{k,n}$ is homeomorphic to the second hypersimplex $Δ_{2,n}$.
An Update on the Existence of Kirkman Triple Systems with Subdesigns

A Kirkman triple system of order $v$, KTS$(v)$, is a resolvable Steiner triple system on $v$ elements. In this paper, we investigate an open problem posed by Doug Stinson, namely the existence of KTS$(v)$ which contain as a subdesign a Steiner triple system of order $u$, an STS$(u)$. We present several different constructions for designs of this form. As a consequence, we completely settle the extremal case $v=2u+1$, for which a list of possible exceptions had remained for close to 30 years. Our new constructions also provide the first infinite classes for the more general problem. We reduce the other maximal case $v=2u+3$ to now three possible exceptions. In addition, we obtain results for other cases of the form $v=2u+w$ and also near $v=3u$. Our primary method introduces a new type of Kirkman frame which contains group divisible design subsystems. These subsystems can occur with different configurations, and we use two different varieties in our constructions.

We give a construction of generalized cluster varieties and generalized cluster scattering diagrams for reciprocal generalized cluster algebras, the latter of which were defined by Chekhov and Shapiro. These constructions are analogous to the structures given for ordinary cluster algebras in the work of Gross, Hacking, Keel, and Kontsevich. As a consequence of these constructions, we are also able to construct theta functions for generalized cluster algebras, again in the reciprocal case, and demonstrate a number of their structural properties.
$P$-associahedra

For each poset $P$, we construct a polytope $A(P)$ called the $P$-associahedron. Similarly to the case of graph associahedra, the faces of $A(P)$ correspond to certain nested collections of subsets of $P$. The Stasheff associahedron is a compactification of the configuration space of $n$ points on a line, and we recover $A(P)$ as an analogous compactification of the space of order-preserving maps $P\to\mathbb{R}$. Motivated by the study of totally nonnegative critical varieties in the Grassmannian, we introduce affine poset cyclohedra and realize these polytopes as compactifications of configuration spaces of $n$ points on a circle. For particular choices of (affine) posets, we obtain associahedra, cyclohedra, permutohedra, and type B permutohedra as special cases.
Beyond the Sottile-Sturmfels degeneration of a semi-infinite Grassmannian

We study toric degenerations of semi-infinite Grassmannians (a.k.a. quantum Grassmannians). While the toric degenerations of the classical Grassmannians are well studied, the only known example in the semi-infinite case is due to Sottile-Sturmfels. We start by providing a new interpretation of the Sottile-Sturmfels construction by finding a poset such that their degeneration is the toric variety of the order polytope of the poset. We then use our poset to construct and study a new toric degeneration in the semi-infinite case. Our construction is based on the notion of poset polytopes introduced by Fang-Fourier-Litza-Pegel. As an application we introduce semi-infinite PBW-semistandard tableaux, giving a basis in the homogeneous coordinate ring of a semi-infinite Grassmannian.
GKM spaces, and the signed positivity of the nabla operator
We show that the Frobenius character of the equivariant Borel-Moore homology of a certain positive $GL_n$-version of the unramified affine Springer fiber $Z_k$ studied by Goreski, Kottwitz and MacPherson is computed by the matrix coefficients of the $\nabla^k$-operator, which acts diagonally in the modified Macdonald basis. We do this by relating the combinatorial formula for the $\nabla^k$-operator we obtained in an earlier paper to the GKM paving of $Z_k$, and we give an algebraic presentation of the above homology as an explicit submodule of the Kostant-Kumar nil Hecke algebra. We then study a certain open locus $U_k \subset Z_k$, and reduce a long-standing conjecture of Bergeron, Garsia, Haiman and Tesler, which predicts the sign of the coefficients of the Schur expansion of $\nabla^k$, to a vanishing conjecture about the homology groups of $U_k$. The latter conjecture is in turn reduced to a vanishing conjecture for certain open loci of the regular semisimple Hessenberg varieties which are indexed by partial Dyck paths.
